Goole Museum showcas Goole Museum is going back in time by launching a brand new and exciting exhibition, 1980s Britain: Money Changes Everything, where members of the public will be invited to join them on the journey Do you remember the 1980s? Did you grow up then? Would you like to see what the decade was like? The exhibition celebrates a decade like no other before or since, where things were bold, brash and contradictory. It was an age characterised by boom and bust. It was also an action-packed time filled with inspiring new technologies and momentous, historic events which served to shape our modern world. Page 6

The new 1980s Britain exhibition will be running from now until the end of the year, and visitors can see it at the Carlisle Street site. Opening times are as follows: Tuesday to Friday, 10am-5pm Wednesday, 10am-7pm Saturday, 9am-4pm Closed for lunch 12noon-12.30pm (Wednesdays 1.30-2pm)

ses new 1980S’ exhibition It is free to visit the exhibition, with no booking required. Lift access is also available for attendees. Debbie Hardy, Goole Museum curator, said: “It may seem strange to see the 80s in a museum - I was a teenager and I hadn’t realised just how much things have moved on in such a relatively short time. “It is a brilliant exhibition to start a chat between generations as it really was the start of the modern, technology-driven world we now live in. “And if that isn’t enough, whilst visiting the museum you can also discover the history of Goole and experience the life, love and loss of

the people, from boat builders’ models and ship paintings to domestic life and leisure pursuits, transport yourself into the past. You can explore the social history of Goole thanks to donations of photos and items from local people. There are 6,000 images of Goole and its surrounding area in its collections. “Goole has fantastic history and I know all Our Goole readers are proud of the area we live in. So if you are looking for something to do with your family, why not pay a visit to Goole Museum and find out more about the UK’s most inland port town.” For more information, please visit www.eastridingmuseums.co.uk

suspicious activity.

We have recently seen a spate of burglaries in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Following on from this we would ask residents to take crime prevention measures in a bid to protect their homes and personal property from opportunist thieves.

We act on your information so if you suspect anyone is handling stolen goods, please contact us.

Keep your doors and windows closed and locked, even when you are at home – more than half of all burglaries are carried out through an open window or door. Make sure outbuildings are secured and locked properly, and anything inside of value is secured by strong, quality locks. • Consider taking photos of any expensive items and mark them with your postcode using UV pens. Lock all valuable items away if at all possible. • Lock any gates to your address to prevent easy access. • Check the perimeter of your property to ensure there is no way to climb in. • Keep an eye on your neighbours’ properties, and ask them to do the same for you. We are increasing patrols in the area and are asking residents to remain vigilant for any

Keeping your car safe To protect your car and your belongings, there are some simple measures you can take to make your car less likely to be targeted by thieves. • Make sure you lock your car doors and windows every time you leave it. • Never leave the keys in the ignition. • Secure your car registration documents at home, never leave them in the car. • Think about where you’re parking. If possible, use a well-lit and secure car park or drive way. Or, park your car as close to your home as possible. • Don’t leave anything on show. • Satnavs or any similar devices should be removed from view – including the holder. If you are using a public car park, those displaying the Park Mark Safer Parking Tick are some of the safest to park in. To find an approved car park in your area, visit www.parkmark.co.uk.

Goole Town Deal Progress Work is progressing well on Goole’s Town Deal, individual project confirmation documents have been agreed by the Board, signed by the Chair and East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s Chief Executive Caroline Lacey A spending profile has also been produced for the period to 2026 and a monitoring and evaluation plan prepared. Goole expects to hear soon if the documents submitted to the central Town Deals department meet with approval leading to the final sign off from Government. Early work to make Goole Market Hall watertight by repairing the roof, carrying out structural repairs, clearing the interior of the building and levelling the floor have led to consideration of potential early meanwhile uses for the market hall. This includes how the building could be used as a town centre anchor for consultations and exhibitions during the Town Deal business case phase to market test community events driven by third parties and develop investor interests towards the reinvention and commercial viability opportunities in Goole Town Centre.

The interior of the market hall requires something of a spruce up before it can be considered fit for purpose. It has no running water and needs painting as a minimum, but the opportunity is there to consider. The idea links with a recent Covid 19 Town Centre Recovery Plan developed by The Retail Group on behalf of East Riding of Yorkshire Council. A series of short, medium, and long term actions were identified to enhance and animate the town centre. These include bringing empty units back into life including meanwhile uses, improving customer experience and helping business adapt to meet customer needs. The Green Team busier than ever! Local charity, The Green Team, have had a very busy year despite the global pandemic affecting everyone’s lives. Our Goole had a catch up with The Green Team charity to find out more about what they have been up to and how the past two years have affected them We had a chat with Cheryl Price, Development Officer, who updates our readers on the charity’s latest projects and priorities. Cheryl said: “Our Garden Maintenance Team continues to provide a vital service for our garden beneficiaries who are all either elderly or disabled and cannot manage to carry out garden maintenance themselves. We have over 120 households that we carry out

gardening for on a regular basis. For our volunteers, they say it gives them a purpose and they enjoy giving something back to the community and helping others. In return we train them to build new skills, and looking for employment, we help them to improve their chances of getting a job. “Some of our team who volunteer in the garden centre also volunteer at our allotment. This year they

have grown produce such as courgettes, rhubarb, onions, potatoes, blackcurrants, fine green beans, spring onions, beetroot, a variety of herbs and a bumper crop of tomatoes! “The community café is run under our community interest company – The Green Team Works CIC. It seems that during Covid people have stayed local and took advantage of the green space right on their doorstep. We have spoken to so many people who live locally but hadn’t been to the park for years prior to Covid or had never been before. Furthermore, since March

2021 we have been taking part in the government Kickstart scheme, and during this time we have been able to employ 11 young people under the age of 25; all of whom were struggling to find employment. We have witnessed some amazing transformations with these young people and every single one of them will be leaving us at the end of their term with better life chances to move them forward. We wish all our Kickstart employees the best of luck with their futures. “Due to Covid, our volunteer numbers remain low so if, following reading about our

anyone would like to donate to The Green Team they can do so in a number of ways: in person at our office here in West Park, via PayPal or we can pass on our bank details via telephone.

“The pandemic has had a massive impact on our organisation as a whole and our ability to raise funds; enabling us to continue our work within the community for those who desperately need us. We have had to fight for survival and losing revenues through events not taking place and volunteers shielding affected us and continues to affect us still. If

“On behalf of the Trustees, a huge thank you goes to the most important people within our organisation, ‘the volunteers’, who have continued to contribute and offered their time to help others during Covid and given support to our charity.” To find out more about The Green Team, visit their Facebook page.

Property expert David Leake of Housesetc tells our readers how important it is to ‘Prepare now to move tomorrow’

Get ready for market To give yourself the best chance to secure your next home, you need to get your current home under offer quickly. Once under offer you will want your current house to sail through conveyancing. First, if selling a leasehold property, locate your Management Information Pack. This pack contains vital information to ensure your sale goes through smoothly. These documents can be acquired through a solicitor, so get in contact with yours and request this pack as soon as possible. Next, make sure you have your own proof of identity on hand. You will need photo ID as well as either a utility bill or a bank statement as proof of address.

An up-to-date EPC is also a vital document on your checklist. Some property websites, including On The Market, display these on the house listing. If you have lost your EPC, you can access a copy easily at the register by providing your address. Ensure you have the property title deeds. Contact an electrician to supply the building regulations compliance certificate or an electrical safety certificate ready for you to pass on to the next homeowners. Finally, complete a TA10 fittings and contents form. This enables both parties to reach a clear agreement over what is included in the sale of your home and prevents negotiations over contents later down the line which could delay your sale.

HERE FOR YOU NO MATTER THE

Weather Whatever the weather, here at Housesetc, our friendly and experienced team will be on hand with expert local knowledge and innovative marketing techniques. Contact us today, for a FREE no obligation valuation today.

This month, Jobcentre Goole talks to our readers about the opportunities available to start a new career in Transport and Logistics.

Fancy a career in Transport & Logistics? Whether you already have experience or are looking to explore, this is a great time to look at a wide range of opportunities in the industry. The National Careers Service can help you make career decisions throughout your life. From deciding your education route, planning a career change at any age or getting the job that is right for you. Around 8 million people in the UK are now working from home. People in all sectors, on the lowest incomes, are most at risk of becoming unemployed. There is a growing demand for people to work in sectors like IT, logistics and food sales. Employers are also looking for workers with good digital skills. You are more likely to bounce back from any setbacks in the labour market if you have transferable skills. As a young person at 16 or Page 30

18, you may have to rethink your next steps. If you’re an experienced worker you might be facing redundancy or thinking about a career change. Sudden changes can be unsettling. We can help you understand what’s going on in the labour market. This, in turn, can help you to think about what might lie ahead and plan for your future. The National Careers Service is running an online workshop on 25th November at 7pm that will give people more information about what is needed to work in the industry. Join our workshop to find out about: • The sector and the type of jobs within it • Identify the skills required to work in the transport and logistics sector • Understand the training and qualifications available and how to apply

• Understand the importance of tailoring a CV to the sector • Feel more confident at promoting your own skills and experiences to potential employers • Gain an understanding of the job opportunities in the local area • Discussing any myths around the transport and logistics sector • Understand the salaries likely to be paid in transport and logistics, including new incentives being paid by employers You will need access to a wi-fi enabled device. For referral please contact the Booking Line on 191 731 4750 or email bookingline@ educationdevelopmenttrust. com with your name, telephone number and email address.

That one person you have never stopped having feelings for is about to re-enter your life. Stay calm until it’s the right time to lay your cards out.

This month is going to be a busy one, if you have time, indulge yourself and make sure you have some ‘me’ time.

Stop trying to please everyone every day. Sometimes you are never going to keep everyone happy.

Carefully think it through before accepting an offer or invitation. There could be repercussions no matter which way you decide to go.

A new hobby is going to bring so much fulfilment to your life that you have been missing.

A memory from the past will begin to keep you awake at night. However, don’t panic, revisiting the past can sometimes give you the closure you need.

Make note of those who make time for you and stop relying on those who don’t give you a second thought.

Your love life has been a little non-existent for a while now, but things are changing and will happen when you least expect it.

Whenever you feel a little down this month, remember how far you have come and be thankful for your setbacks.
