FROM A POLICE A new opportunity to help take nuisance motorbikes off the streets
“We are committed to tackling this issue, and this scheme will contribute to reducing anti-social behaviour and criminal activity and will, and most importantly, will reduce the nuisance caused to our communities”

E PERSPECTIVE: This month, William Harrison from Humberside Police talks to us about Operation Yellowfin, a new initiative which aims to reduce the number of nuisance motorbikes on our streets Following on from a recent surrender in North East Lincolnshire, Humberside Police, in conjunction with North Lincolnshire Council Neighbourhood Services, are offering a motorcycle surrender scheme as part of their plans to reduce the number of nuisance motorbikes on our streets and open spaces. We know from our Humber Talking surveys that nuisance motorbikes are one of the most common concerns that they have about living in our neighbourhoods. We know that often those involved in this activity are involved in other criminal activities and anti-social behaviour and want to work with local residents to help tackle the issue. The local Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPTs) are offering a FREE collection and disposal scheme for one month from Monday 1 March, as part of the 2021 Operation Yellowfin campaign. If you have an old moped, motorcycle or quad bike, regardless of condition, please ring 101 quoting Log 97 of 23 February 2021. An appointment will be made for a local officer to visit you in a safe and socially distanced way and arrange the necessary collection. The Op Yellowfin lead on the South bank of the Humber, Inspector Martin Hopper said: “This is about reducing the number of motorbikes,
mopeds and quad bikes ridden unlawfully. “When we conducted a week-long surrender in North East Lincolnshire in January, four bikes were taken off the road and out of danger of ending up in the wrong hands. “It is quite common for old, former roadregistered and off-road bikes, no longer used by owners, to be stored in sheds, garages or even gardens. “These have previously then been stolen and used illegally both on the streets, and in open public spaces. This brings with it an increased risk to the riders, other road users, and also the public. “This surrender service will also help responsible parents who are concerned about the risk to their children, and may wish to dispose of such vehicles. “We don’t want to be criminalising and prosecuting young people, but we are really clear if they break the law, positive action will be taken. “We are committed to tackling this issue, and this scheme will contribute to reducing anti-social behaviour and criminal activity and will, and most importantly, will reduce the nuisance caused to our communities. “We hope that people will get behind the initiative and this will be just one more step towards tackling this issue.”

Man marches between Scunthorpe and Lincoln for 48 hours for Brain Tumour Research David Nogueira Cadeireiro recently took part in a fundraiser raising money for Brain Tumour Research by marching between Scunthorpe and Lincoln for the duration of 48 hours straight Lindsey College and then back to the Cathedral again. Scunthorpe Journal had a chat with David to find out more about how he found the challenge.
David started at North Lindsey College in Scunthorpe and marched close to 30 miles (27 miles)
Page 10
until he reached the doors of Lincoln Cathedral. Once there he turned around and walked back to North
What inspired you to take on this challenge? Part of this challenge is inspired by the 30 miles the Royal Marines recruits have to do at the end of their recruitment in order to earn their green beret. I have been trying to join the armed forces (Royal Marines to be exact) for the past four years

but I’m still trying to get my dual citizenship.

What have you found most challenging? The most challenging part of the event is to get it out there during this pandemic, to tell people and let them know what I’m doing.
and since it happened during the
Why this particular event? In the past four years I have lost two people to cancer. This had a massive impact on me. The first one was Steve Jackson which was my tutor at North Lindsey College for uniformed services. He was a veteran from the Falkland War and still in service as a reserve when he died of pancreatic cancer in the middle of the year.
brain cancer. He lived in Portugal pandemic I hadn’t seen him in over a year. He was an amazing person, full of life and happiness. It left a massive gap in our family. So I decided to raise some money to fight cancer. When I heard that just 1% of government funding goes towards brain cancer research, I decided to give them a helping hand and put myself on a extreme challenge. This was mostly because what I’ll be going through doesn’t even compare to what anyone with cancer goes through.
How much do you hope to raise overall? At least £500 but I’m aiming to raise as much as possible. Have you took part in a fundraising project before? I have taken part in multiple charity events. Last year I tried to complete the Vikings Way route in 48 hours while carrying 30kg plus food and water. It turned out to be a bit too much and I had to stop. I have shaved my head twice for charity, once for testicular cancer and once for children with cancer. Baths Hall to open as a vaccine centre A large vaccination centre is set to open in the heart of Scunthorpe Each week, thousands of people will be offered vital protection from Covid-19 after the site opens. The free vaccination will be offered to those who live within a 45-minute drive of The Baths Hall and will be in the priority order as identified by the Joint Committee for Vaccinations and Immunisations (JCVI). The site, which will operate

between 8am-8pm, seven days a week, will launch with one pod of six vaccinators. It is hoped this will increase to two pods in the coming weeks. Dr Satpal Shekhawat, Medical Director at NHS North Lincolnshire Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “This is brilliant news for North Lincolnshire – and comes following weeks of hard work, planning and strong partnership working with colleagues from across the area.

“We will begin with around 500 vaccinations per day but we aim for this to increase to up to 1,000 per day. “The vaccination programme in our region is progressing really well and we are pleased to note that more than 500,000 vaccinations have already been provided to the most vulnerable groups in Humber Coast and Vale. Having another large centre in one of our towns will enable us to reach an even greater number of people as we continually expand our programme.”

People receiving the letters are invited to go online to the national booking service to arrange a jab at a time and location that is convenient for them. If they are not able to go online, they can call 119 free of charge. Appointments are staggered to allow for social distancing and people are being asked not to turn up early to avoid creating queues. Everyone will receive a health status check and a prevaccination assessment before they have their jab.
Alex Seale, Chief Operating Officer at NHS North Lincolnshire CCG, said: “The vaccines are both safe and effective, so if anybody who is eligible but hasn’t been vaccinated yet, I’d urge them to go online or call 119 and get themselves booked in.
