FROM A POLICE Increase in reports of Class C drug use in the area
“As a Class C drug, pregabalin is only legal when prescribed by a medical professional. Possession without a lawful prescription is a criminal offence, meaning it is illegal to possess or supply – including giving tablets or capsules away for free”.

April/May 2022 - Issue 26
E PERSPECTIVE: This month, Scunthorpe Police talk to our readers about how there have been reports of a recent increase of a Class C drug being bought illicitly in North Lincolnshire When prescribed by a medical professional, pregabalin (or Lyrica) is used to treat epilepsy, anxiety, fibromyalgia and nerve pain. However, taking the drug without medical approval can lead to increased risks of epileptic fits and injury. By purchasing illicit items, there is the additional risk that they may be fake or counterfeit, meaning they will not have been manufactured to UK pharmaceutical standards. Consuming these items may be dangerous as it is uncertain what effects they may have on the user. People using pregabalin have already had to go to A&E. Using it when it is not prescribed by a medical professional can cause suppression of the central nervous system and damage a person’s brain function. When mixed with other substances, such as alcohol, Pregabalin can increase poor decision making, leading to injuries or death. Side effects of illicit use of Pregabalin include: • Confusion • Disorientation • Loss of consciousness • Increased aggression
• Choking on your own vomit As a Class C drug, Pregabalin is only legal when prescribed by a medical professional. Possession without a lawful prescription is a criminal offence, meaning it is illegal to possess or supply – including giving tablets or capsules away for free. If you have taken Pregabalin and feel unwell, you MUST get medical attention immediately due to the unpredictability of the tablets and the risk of epileptic fits. If someone you are with collapses after using drugs like Pregabalin, call for medical assistance straight away. Do not leave the person on their own, check their breathing and put them in the recovery position to reduce the risk of choking. For advice and support, contact We Are With You: Adult Substance Misuse Service on 0808 143 0640. Or visit them at 185-195 High Street, Scunthorpe. For honest advice about drugs, visit www.talktofrank.com

Scunthorpe Hospital reintroduces text message reminders in bid to reduce wasted hospital appointments SMS reminders are now live at Scunthorpe Hospital for patients waiting for an outpatient appointment Every month around 10% of patients fail to turn up for their appointment. It’s estimated each outpatient appointment costs around £160, so if you miss your slot you’re not only wasting NHS time but also costing the health service money too. SMS reminders at the Trust were previously one-way text messages giving just the time and date of the appointment. These were stopped when the pandemic hit and appointments were stood down/moved to virtual appointments.
Page 10
The new, improved text message service will not only send you a reminder of the time and date of your appointment seven days in advance, but it will also give you the option to confirm, cancel or rebook. Another text message will be sent 48 hours before your appointment giving further details about where to go if it’s a face-to-face appointment, or details on how to access it if it’s a virtual appointment e.g. over the telephone or via video call. As part of the Trust’s move over to digital appointment letters for outpatients we already
have many of our patients’ mobile numbers, but if we don’t have your number, or you’ve recently changed it, make sure you can take advantage of this new service by updating your contact details with us – just email nlg-tr.patientaccesscallcentre@ nhs.net with your new number along with your full name, date of birth, post code and if you know it your NHS number.

The most Famous Bagpipe Band in the World are coming to Scunthorpe! There has never been anything quite like the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, from their formation in 2002 and a cameo appearance at T in the Park in 2004 with the Darkness, to opening the main stage in their own right in 2014 The past 15 years has seen the Red Hot Chilli Pipers become the most famous bagpipe band on the planet…ever! The band are coming to Scunthorpe Bath Halls on Friday 29th April where audiences can expect as brilliant a show and a night they won’t forget. The band has reached incredible heights with their groundbreaking fusion of traditional Scottish music and rock/pop anthems which they

proudly call “Bagrock”. The Red Hot Chilli Pipers are a genuinely unique experience. The Chillis have never been more in demand for their infectious style of feelgood music which appeals right across the age range to people all over the world. They have collected together an impressive group of musicians, dancers and singers from Scotland and further afield, many holding World Championship titles and all seriously good players with impressive credentials and
qualifications. In 2014, The Chilli Pipers released a new live DVD and CD entitled `Live at the Lake`. In an explosive evening of entertainment captured on this live DVD and CD, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers recorded their most adventurous project to date, bringing 16 musicians and dancers across the Atlantic to perform at Milwaukee Irish Fest, the US spiritual home of the band. They captured the unique and explosive power of the Chilli Pipers in one

unforgettable evening by the shores of Lake Michigan. Tracks include Insomnia, Gimme All Your Lovin’, Thunderstruck, Everybody Dance Now, Amazing Grace, Fix You, Chasing Cars, Wake Me Up, Don’t Stop Believin’ and We Will Rock You. In February 2019, the Pipers and Tom Walker released a new version of his massive hit “Leave a Light On”. The release was in aid of Nordoff Robins, the music therapy charity and it went straight into the iTunes top five. The collaboration came
about after Tom performed with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers at Murrayfield Rugby Stadium before the Scotland v Italy Six Nations match. In June 2019, the Red Hot Chilli Pipers released a new studio album, entitled “Fresh Air”, an exciting fusion of brand-new songs and carefully selected covers. In a new departure for the Red Hot Chilli Pipers many of the songs include lead vocals. Some of the highlights are “Leave A Light On” featuring
Tom Walker on vocals. Leonard Cohen´s “Hallalujah” and “Shut Up and Dance” from the American band Walk the Moon are both songs featuring the incredibly talented singer Chris Judge on vocals. So if you are looking for a live act to watch, you definitely won’t be disappointed with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers.
