FROM A POLICE

Op Forager continues in Scunthorpe town centre

“We carried out 11 stop and searches and seized a bladed weapon. One person was summonsed to court for possession of a bladed article.”

POLICE PERSPECTIVE:

This month, Scunthorpe Policing Team tells us how Operation Forager continues to spread reassurance across Scunthorpe town centre with the return of the high-visibility drugs dog operation carried out by the Scunthorpe Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT)

The NPT plays a crucial role in tackling issues that we know are important in our communities and this successful initiative recognises the impact the misuse of drugs can have in the area.

The approach is a way of identifying people who may be supplying or carrying drugs and can act as a deterrent to those involved in such crimes and bring reassurance to residents.

PC Watson, who led the initiative in Scunthorpe, said: “The operation saw PCs and PCSOs following a passive drugs dog through key routes we identified in the town. We carried out 11 stop and searches and seized a bladed weapon. One person was summonsed to court for possession of a bladed article.

“As an organisation, we are focused on delivering for our community, and the feedback received drives our priorities to continue developing Operation Forager moving forward.

“The response from the public has been positive and we continue to receive great feedback. They have told us that they are reassured that we are acting upon the information that we receive.

‘’None of it would have been possible without the dedication and support of everyone involved internally and externally, so I would like to pass on my thanks to all those who participated.

‘’There were some fantastic results and I continue to be incredibly proud of the hugely professional approach taken by my colleagues when undertaking these tasks. I am confident that the work we carried out yesterday has already made our streets safe.

‘’Since August 2024 we have conducted 110 stop and searches, resulting in 18 arrests for various offences, including drug-related crimes, possession of bladed articles, theft, and fraud, demonstrating the operation’s effectiveness in tackling crime.’’

If you are concerned about drug-related crime in your area, please speak to your local team or call our non-emergency 101 line. If you would like to report anonymously, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. If someone is in immediate danger, always call 999.

Want to

lose

weight but don’t know where to start?
Breathe

a sigh of relief.

You have found Mel and her team at Choose to Lose who can really help to put you in control of your weight and be supported from the word go!

Choose to Lose Founder, Mel Pym, became disenchanted with the direction that the weight-loss industry was taking. Decisions by accountants running major weightloss organisations were only looking at profit, and didn’t take people’s lives into account.

This put Mel in a really uncomfortable position, she was pressurised to meet financial targets which meant there was less time to support, motivate and inspire all those who had embarked on their weight-loss journey. Her work had lost its meaning, the organisation wasn’t putting people first so she decided to move away from the ‘big guns’.

Having had a break from the industry and a couple years in the field of cosmetics and health, Mel was missing the fire in her belly that made her leap out of bed every morning. She had to get that spark back in her life. There was no other solution - it was time to ‘do it her way’.

So Mel, top right, launched Choose to lose in 2021 in the North Notts region. Very quickly, Mel’s new weightcontrol plan and mentoring support was quickly oversubscribed. Within the first few months, over 400

members eagerly subscribed to Choose to Lose and the success stories just keep coming in.

Mel has very carefully selected an elite team of Choose to Lose group leaders so that more people have the chance to improve their lives under the guidance of experienced and qualified mentors.

Scunthorpe racer Alicia Barrett qualifies for groundbreaking Formula Woman Nations Cup

Scunthorpe racing driver Alicia Barrett (20) qualified Dubai Autodrome in December, securing

Forty females took part in the Formula Woman Nations Cup qualifier driving Radical SR3s. The groundbreaking competition attracted competitors from 26 countries, taking part in a time trial to meet the qualifying criteria for a seat on the grid next year. The Formula Woman Nations Cup aims to redefine the landscape for women in motorsport.

Formula Woman is an international community of over 5,000 females from all walks of life. It offers a safe and encouraging community for females in motorsport with competitions, thought-provoking events, a range of activities and networking. The Formula Woman Nations Cup evolved from this community and will take place at Dubai Autodrome in May.

Alicia told Scunthorpe Journal: “It was only my second time out in a Radical. I was pleased with 5th, but a problem with the car in the second session meant I didn’t get a chance to improve my time further in the qualifier. I felt I had more to give and have my hopes set on a podium next year. My race craft experience from karting should also stand me in good stead in the Nations Cup race.

“Without Formula Woman, many of the women taking part wouldn’t have the finances or opportunity to compete in a competition like this. Successful qualifiers will earn a partially funded seat in the Nations Cup, with just their insurance, travel expenses and testing to fund. This race gives women the opportunity to showcase their talent in a supportive environment and at an incredible location – the Dubai Autodrome.”

A former European karting champion, Alicia has been involved in motorsport since she was eight years old and currently combines working as a driver coach and mechanic with her final year degree studies at Nottingham Trent University.

Alicia is looking to secure sponsorship for testing sessions in the Radical SR3 prior to the Nations Cup in Dubai next year.

For details of sponsorship opportunities for businesses, brands, or individuals who would like to support or invest in Alicia’s future motorsport career, please email aliciabarrettracing@hotmail.com or call 07719 014973.
