Tadcaster to benefit from brand-new community fund The Heart of Yorkshire, the fund for Selby District, by Venetia Wrigley, the High Sheriff of North Yorkshire, was launched last month to benefit the people of the area Launched at the new drop-in centre of The Big Communitea, one of the many community groups that supports local people in and around Selby, the Fund is managed by Two Ridings Community Foundation with a £2million investment from Selby District Council.

Applications are now open to fund community projects which will support a sustainable voluntary sector in the Selby District, and the local people that benefit from it, for years to come.

Jan Garrill, Chief Executive of Two Ridings Community Foundation, said: “It’s great to be opening the Heart of Yorkshire fund. It is the perfect opportunity for Selby charitable and community organisations to address the real needs of the local people.

Ali Pearson, Chair of the Grants Committee at Two Ridings Community Foundation, and a Selby resident, was impressed local people are already reaching out to become a panel member for the fund.

She finished by saying: “Selby District is going through a huge regeneration programme and it’s wonderful that community is at the heart of this.

“We have been overwhelmed by the positive response from

residents who want to be on the decision-making panel for this grant. Local people are so ready to be involved and make a difference. Anyone else interested should get in touch soon.”

Bramham dinne her own chic A Yorkshire dinner lady is celebrating after her homemade chicken nuggets made it on to supermarket shelves

Processed chicken nuggets have had a bad rap in the past but now Claire Proctor, a 47-year-old grandma from Bramham, North Yorkshire, is set to change the face of one of the UK’s most popular family foods.

The dinner lady at HECK used to cook up her ‘gourmet goujons’ to feed hungry workers at lunchtime using a recipe she had perfected at home with her grandchildren. HECK co-founder, Jamie Keeble, liked them so much, he sent them out to retailers to try and they are now on sale in 500 Asda

stores and have just launched in Morrisons last month.

Claire, now known as ‘Nanna Nugget’, created her homemade chicken nuggets as a healthier option for her grandchildren and says: “I’m quite bowled over by the response. My family loves this recipe, but I never thought

HECK’s Jamie Keeble hopes the new range, that includes Chicken Italia and Piri Piri Chicken Nuggets, will prove popular with families and fitness fans alike. “Claire is an absolute genius in the kitchen. She cooks

up fantastic meals for our team every day and I’m so excited that her golden nuggets are now available to the nation. There’s no hidden ingredients in ours and they have the added benefit of being gluten-free too. We’re hoping that some of the local schools will also put them on the menu as we know they’re a real hit with children!”
