INTRODUCTION Hello and welcome to your October/ November edition of Tadcaster Echo. Autumn has arrived! The spooky season is here and there are no tricks here, just treats for our lovely Goole readers. This issue, Tadcaster Echo showcases one of the brilliant charities we have in our area helping those in need in our community. The Bridge Project, Tadcaster, is a faith-based charity and is doing a brilliant job of supporting
children, young people and families from all walks of life. The group aims to provide a safe, welcoming space to help people fulfil their full potential through clubs, school work, targeted support and volunteering opportunities. This increases their self-esteem, soft skills and opportunities for people to improve their lives. Tadcaster Echo had a chat with girl’s worker, Kate Ellarby, to find out more about the group and its plans for the future. Kate told us: ‘During the pandemic we gave out meals to families and activity packs for children and young people. We also provided support groups for parents and children struggling with their mental health. We also started an online faith-based support group which now has 115 members.

Celebrates 20 years ‘The young leaders programme by Primetime YLN was launched in July and we have seven young people who have very nearly finished their Bronze Award. This involves a combination of formal teaching and volunteering. They’ve all been amazing through the summer and supported us with the summer club which had around 40 children per day. ‘We recently celebrated our 20-year celebration on the 2nd October coming together to celebrate all that we’ve achieved over the 20 years we’ve been working in Tadcaster. Local nurse wins ‘Social Care Nu Great British Care Awards Regio For the past 18 months care homes and care workers have been a fundamental part of the pandemic, helping those in need and ensuring loved ones could see their family with restrictions in place won Outstanding Contribution to Social Care in 2019) and was honoured to receive this award. Local business, Blossom Home Care, was a finalist in a number of categories, and won two awards in the Great British Care Awards Regional Finals. Blossom Home Care came away with both the ‘Home Care Team’ award and the ‘Social Care Nurse’ award. Co-owner and founder, Fiona Leggott, won the ‘Social Care Nurse’ award for her passionate and caring approach. This award acknowledges the important role that specialist nurses working in the care sector have in promoting the emotional,

physical, psychological and social health of the people they support. Whilst staff from Blossom’s Tadcaster and Northallerton’s offices scooped the ‘Home Care Team’ award, which celebrates the team best able to demonstrate a shared vision and agreed goals, as well as excellent communication, and a commitment to dignity and privacy for clients and respect for all team members. Tadcaster Echo had a chat with Fiona Leggott to find out more about her win. Fiona said: ‘I felt very shocked to have won another award (I
