Get into the Christmas spirit this year with Elf - The Musical

Running

at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre from 26th -30th November, grab your tickets today and release

your inner ELF

The award-winning NETheatre York follows on from the success of A Fiddler on the Roof and West Side Story to bring you ELF The Musical, directed by award-winning Steve Tearle and Musical Director Joe Allen - this is certainly one not to be missed.

ELF is the hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported to the North Pole.

Buddy is raised unaware that he is actually a human, until his enormous size and poor toymaking abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father and discover his true identity.

Faced with the harsh reality that his father is on the naughty list and his stepbrother doesn’t even believe in Santa, Buddy is determined to win over his new family and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas.

Grab yourself a piece of Christmas and see this show. There’s non-stop action from skateboards to roller skates and it features some fantastic songs.

Buddy’s quotes will have you smiling right through this musical:

“It’s just nice to meet another human who shares my affinity for elf culture.”

“There’s room for everyone on the Nice List!”

“If you can sing alone, you sing in front of other people. There’s no difference.”

“I planned out our whole day. First we make snow angels for two hours, and then we’ll go ice skating, and then we’ll eat a whole roll of Tollhouse Cookie Dough as fast as we can, and then to finish, we’ll snuggle.”

“Then I travelled through the seven levels of the Candy Cane forest, past the sea of twirly-swirly gum drops, and then I walked through the Lincoln Tunnel.”

“Santa! Oh my God! Santa, here?! I know him! I know him!”

Elf The Musical will kick-start your Christmas and really get you into the spirit.

Help for hampers as Wetherby charity launches older person’s fundraising bid

A Wetherby older person’s charity wants sponsors for its help a hamper appeal which aims to curb isolation across the district

Wetherby in Support of the Elderly (WiSE) hopes residents and businesses will donate cash or goods which can then be turned into hampers. These will raise money at raffles throughout the year.

WiSE fundraisers says money raised through the appeal could prove vital, as hundreds of people prepare for the long winter months ahead.

Liz, fundraiser at WiSE, told Tadcaster Echo: “Every hamper we manage to whip up - be it through donated cash or goods - will be given away as raffle prizes, turning your small donation into a much larger sum of money for our small, local charity.

“Older people right here in Wetherby will be starting to prepare for colder days and darker nights. But every penny we raise through this appeal will help us to reduce loneliness, end isolation and improve wellbeing for hundreds of older people across the district.”

WISE is a registered charity organisation part funded by Leeds City Council (LCC). Its aim is to improve quality of life for the over-60s by providing community-based activities, information, help and support. It was recently given the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, which is equivalent to an MBE.

If you can support the hamper appeal, please email liz@w-ise.org.uk
