Ain’t nothing but a BrewDog Brewery founders change name to Elvis after legal action by the King of Rock and Roll’s estate The founders of Scottish brewery, BrewDog, have changed their first names to Elvis after the late King of Rock and Roll’s estate attempted to sue them. James Watt and Martin Dickie, or Elvis Watt and Elvis Dickie as they are now officially called, made the change after they received a notice from the lawyers of the Elvis Presley Estate stating they were not allowed to call their blood orange and grapefruit infused IPA ‘Elvis Juice’. To prove that the name Elvis is not exclusive to Mr Presley, the pair changed their name by deed poll. In a statement on their website, BrewDog said: ‘We don’t take too kindly to petty pen pushers attempting to make a fast buck by discrediting our good name under the guise of copyright infringement. ‘We love Elvis Juice, both the beer and the name. And our customers do too.’
4
The duo have stated that ‘Elvis Juice’ is now officially named after them and not the late rock and roll superstar. With tongue firmly in cheek, the pair added: ‘By the Elvis Presley Estate legal team’s logic, I am pretty sure we could even lodge a countercomplaint aimed at Mr Presley himself for all the records he put out without Elvis Watt and Elvis Dickie’s permission. ‘And if that doesn’t keep them busy enough, we would like to recommend that they divert their attention to another potential source of quick remuneration: a brewery that calls itself ‘The King’ of beers.’ BrewDog was founded in 2007 and has gone from strength to strength since, with almost 50 bars and bottle shops around the UK. The company will soon be taking on the US too - we’re expecting huge and exciting things from the two Elvises.

TWO LOCAL WOMEN SHARING ONE BIG PASSION Have you ever trawled through countless phonebooks and searched online in a bid to discover a catering company that provides both high-quality food and reasonable prices? Rachel Tomlinson and Andrea Reynard are doing their best to ensure you won’t have to search far and wide ever again. Three years ago Rachel and Andrea combined their love of food and cooking to set up a local catering company, A Passion 4 Food. The business has been going from strength to strength ever since. Andrea told Wine & Dine Yorkshire: ‘Rachel and I met through our toddlers group in Hemingbrough, where we both live, back in 2003. We hit it off straight away and discovered that we both had a love for food and a passion for cooking. ‘A friend of ours wanted a buffet for a christening and, after shopping around, discovered there was very limited choice, so Rachel and I decided to provide it.’ The pair began receiving more business from friends and in 2015 they provided a sit-down meal for 120 guests at a friend’s wedding breakfast and a buffet for 200 at their evening reception.
Rachel told us: ‘Although it was hard work, the buzz we got from being able to deliver good quality food to the guests and the fantastic feedback we received made us feel really positive – it was then that we decided to launch A Passion 4 Food. ‘We’ve put a lot of work in to build a strong reputation and always provide excellent food from high quality ingredients sourced locally where possible. We can accommodate clients’ budgets and tailor menus to individual requirements.’ Andrea added: ‘We’ve recently moved into a new kitchen in Osgodby where everything is brand new – it’s a really exciting time for both of us and we’re very proud of how far we’ve come. We can’t wait for A Passion 4 Food to continue growing in the future.’
Be it sumptuous starters, fabulous finger food or decadent desserts we’re here to create that perfect menu for your special day! We pride ourselves on well presented, delicious fresh food that is packed with flavour

Recipe OF THE
Season Supplied to us by Spuds & Berries at Mr Vincent’s
Spuds & Berries Cottage Pie
Winter evenings and hot, homemade food go hand-in-hand so it would be rude of us to leave you without a comforting dish as our winter recipe of the season. This cottage pie recipe has been provided by Spuds & Berries at Mr Vincent’s, a family-run restaurant where the family’s story adorns the walls and customers keep on returning for the gorgeous local food, the friendly welcome and the top-notch service. Method 1. Prepare the potatoes and put on to boil. 2. In a thick-bottomed pan heat a small amount of oil and sweat the diced veg without colouring for 3 to 4 minutes then remove from the pan and set aside. 3. Add the minced beef and fry until meat is a light brown. Once browned, add the veg back into the pan. 4. Add tomato puree and cook for a further few minutes constantly stirring. Then add the remaining ingredients and leave to simmer and reduce.
8
Ser ves: 4 • 500g minced beef • 1 carrot, diced • 1 onion, diced • 3 sticks celer y diced • 1 leek, diced • 2tbsp tomato puree • 250ml Worcester sauce • Sprigs of thyme • 2 bay leaves • Splash of good quality red wine • 500ml good beef stock For the mash • 4 or 5 large red skin potatoes (e.g. Shannon) • 100ml double cream • 100g butter • Grated Cheddar • Salt and pepper to taste
5. Whilst the meat is finishing, remove and drain the cooked potatoes from a pan of boiling water and mash with cream and butter until a smooth texture. Season. 6. Once the mince has fully reduced, transfer to a suitable size tray or Pyrex dish and using a piping bag, pipe the mash to completely cover the meat. If you don’t have a piping bag spoon the mash to cover the meat and smooth with a spatula. Top with grated Cheddar. 7. Place in preheated oven (180-200oC) and bake for approximately 20 minutes until golden brown.

Impressive York restaurant awarded 3 AA Rosettes Hudson’s restaurant, housed within The Grand Hotel & Spa, York is celebrating its new prestigious status The Grand Hotel & Spa, York, is thrilled after being awarded 3 AA Rosettes at its stylish restaurant, Hudson’s. The restaurant, housed within Yorkshire’s only 5-star hotel, has long retained 2 AA Rosettes but was awarded its new status during the AA’s annual awards evening which was held at London’s Grosvenor House. Hudson’s joins the ranks of many of the country’s most prestigious and elite eateries and takes its place within the top 10% of restaurants in the AA Rosette Scheme. Open to both residents and non-residents of the hotel, Hudson’s presents high-quality dishes featuring the finest in local produce under the expert management of Head Chef, Craig Atchinson. Craig told Wine & Dine: ‘Gaining 3 AA Rosette status has been an ambition and focus of ours as a team and we
10
have been committed to raising the standards of all of our dishes to ensure the very best for our diners – something this award acknowledges.’ AA Inspector Stephen Wilkinson also expressed his delighted on The Grand’s success: ‘I am pleased that the hard work by Craig Atchinson and his team has resulted in this award. It is a pleasure to see such high culinary standards befitting the superb standard of the rest of the hotel.’ The long-established and well-respected AA Rosette Scheme sees AA Rosettes awarded solely by AA Hotel and Restaurant Inspectors with no influence from hotels, restaurants or other guides. The awarding of AA Rosettes follows an unannounced visit to the restaurant whereby the entire meal, including ancillary items, are assessed.

Wetherspoon replaces the Christmas dinner You might not be too happy about the pub giant’s controversial decision Popular pub chain Wetherspoon will scrap its traditional Christmas dinner from the menu this year. Last year, customers were able to tuck in to a ‘proper’ Christmas feast of turkey, roast and mashed potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, peas, Brussels sprouts, carrots and cranberry sauce, but this winter that won’t be available. Instead, customers will be greeted with some festive alternatives on the menu including a brie, cranberry and bacon beef burger, turkey pie and vegetarian wellington.
But customers wanting the traditional experience won’t be disappointed with the desserts –Wetherspoons will be offering Christmas pudding served with either brandy sauce or custard. A spokesperson for Wetherspoon said: ‘A number of high-street restaurant operators don’t offer a Christmas roast but do offer meals that are Christmas-based and Wetherspoon is taking a similar approach.’ The controversial axe of the Christmas dinner follows the complete removal of roast dinners from the pub giant’s menu.

St Nicholas Fayre, York 17 November - 23 December From the ‘Festive First Night’ on 17 November when St Nicholas Fayre officially opens, over 100 snug chalets with glistening fairy lights will take over York’s Parliament Street, St Sampson’s Square and other new sites such as The Judge’s Lodging and Coppergate. You can expect scents of hot mulled wine and roasted chestnuts to fill the air and create a festive atmosphere. And those who visited last year might be glad to hear that Thor’s Tipi is back on Parliament Street after a popular first season. You can cosy up around a log fire and enjoy a hot chocolate (or something stronger). Treat yourself to mulled wine, Christmas cocktails and draft ales available from an independent licensed bar. The great big yorkshire pudding debate Christopher Blackburn, founder of and creative force behind the Yorkshire Pudd blog wants you to join him on his mission to make sure every Christmas dinner features a good old Yorkshire pudding As we approach the festive season we face the annual debate - is a Yorkshire pudding an official Christmas dinner item? You may be questioning why we are even having this debate, but it’s important to realise that those less privileged than us - those from the south - still need convincing that a Yorkshire pudding deserves to be on our plates at Christmas. This year, I ask you all to join me in my mission to make it a law that a Yorkshire pud is served up on Christmas Day all over the UK. To do so you will need a world-class Yorkshire pudding recipe and there’s no better one than mine. Lucky for you, I have agreed to share it with Wine & Dine so that you can have a first-class Christmas dinner. 18

Top-notch Yorkshire pudding
Method
225g plain flour 4 eggs, beaten 300ml milk 1 tsp salt ½ tsp beef dripping ½ tsp white pepper
Put a muffin tray with ½ tsp of beef dripping in each hole in the oven at the highest possible temperature (normally 270 degrees) until you hear the oven click and reach temperature. Remove the muffin tray and pour in your batter (about ½ to ¾ way up each hole) place back in oven and reduce temperature immediately to 230 degrees (bake for 20 mins).
Sift flour, salt and pepper in to a large bowl and add the beaten eggs* and half the milk. Whisk until it is very smooth. Add the rest of the milk and whisk again to form the batter. Let it rest for 30 mins - this can be speeded up by placing it in the fridge for 10 mins.
*Tip, when you whisk the eggs do it softly - this should only take a few seconds. The eggs forms the glue that make them rise and stay together.
Enjoy your gorgeous Yorkshire puds and have a very merry Christmas! Christopher Blackburn is the reigning World Yorkshire Pudding Champion, Star of ITV’s Food Glorious Food, ITV’s Country House Sunday and has appeared on BBC’s The One Show. He is also a regular contributor to BBC Radio Leeds. He shares his northern foodie thoughts and recipes on yorkshirepudd.co.uk

SCORPIO 24TH OCT - 22ND NOV Like a fine single malt, you improve with age and, whatever age you are, you’ll be feeling fruity and sometimes even downright spicy at times! Let out your inner diva.
SAGITTARIUS 23RD NOV - 21ST DEC With such a broad mind and ‘give-it-a-go’ attitude, Saggies are best placed for a wide variety of pleasurable and enjoyable things to come their way. Nothing is impossible for you right now.
CAPRICORN 22ND DEC - 20TH JAN When the Sun enters your sign on December 21st, you’re a happy bunny. Feeling festive, you may even get quite excited and put some extra rum in the custard. Steady on!
