Keeping The Fire Alive As the franchises gear up for the 11th season of IPL, the illustrations done by Shreedhar Sutar for the Mumbai Indians showcase the fire and spirit of the players of Mumabi Indians, for the current season.
The Brief The Indian Premier league is a very popular tournament of the professional T20 format. As the most attended cricket leagues in the world, the crowd awaits for the spectacle to begin every year. From auctioning to team songs, every small detail adds to the charm of the team members. When Mumbai Indians, the team that won the title last year approached Shreedhar Sutar to make illustrations for the current season, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands. The Challenge The mandate required the illustrator to retain the theme and colour scheme of the Mumbai Indians franchise and asked him to illustrate three players from the team: Rohit Sharma, Lasith Malinga and Kieron Pollard in a different actions on one canvas

CG. What, according to you, are the most important aspects to ensure doing justice to represent the actual personalities of people through caricatures? EPM. In the first place, the similarity is the most important. Without resemblance, there is no caricature. The thing that comes next is to not offend the person and still tell as much as possible about their personality. Keeping both these aspects in mind, it is rather important to maintain the apt balance that is desired in order to create an effective caricature. CG. How do you make sure you represent people in a way that viewers relate to the caricatures? EPM. I seek that in a single glance the most singular characteristics of the person are known. Every character has his or her own unique traits that symbolises or signifies the person, whether they are the very physical features of the individual or characteristics in the conduct, temperament or personality. I also do that exercise when I look at the person, and try to capture the first impression so as to work with it
