People Perspectives Designs with a human touch is what people look for. And designer Ashwani Nagar understands that concept very well. His designs maintain the feel and emotion that resonate with people which in turn helps them connect to the artwork at first sight.
05
Inspired by mundane events and interesting everyday people, one of his projects called Life in a Metro depicts his acute sense of observation of how people behave and react while undergoing their daily journey to and fro from work to home. Collaborating with art partner Manish Minglani, these series of 12 posters offers a microscopic view on peoples’ everyday actions and misbehaviour which serves as a mirror for them. Made using sketchbook, Photoshop and Illustrator, this artwork symbolises how humour can help educate and create positive change in society <

Designs can make use of various modes of expression to meet desired results. Some are simply and minimal whereas some can be loud and boisterous. The latter is a path that Visualizer Jalpa Shah takes on her designs. Using loud colour combinations, fun elements and some bit of humour, her designs are a perfect recipe for a memorable design experience. More on how she achieves what she plans.

GRADUATESHOWCASE_2015 Student: Vinita Jakkal Course: PG Diploma in Graphic Design College/Institution: MAEER’s MIT Institute of Design Graduation Year: 2012-2015
01
Adaptable Design Graphic designer, illustrator and photographer Vinita Jakkal based out of Pune, enjoys working on branding, packaging & UI projects. She is currently working as a visual designer at Deloitte Digital, Mumbai. It is critical to understand the category of people for whom you are working with. For her project ‘swa pune’, she admits that designing an identity for a city was a challenging job. The name was derived from Sanskrit word “SWA” which means ‘My Own’, to strengthen the emotional bond between city & the people. Also, choosing the correct colours to evoke the desired emotions is very critical to the success of any project as colours can make or break designs. Vinita believes that the design should be always dynamic so that it can easily get adapted. Small thing that makes her happy and satisfied, it can be a free bird, smiling child, happy dad, proud brother, caring mother all become inspiration for Vinita to live her life to the fullest. 02

Student: Shana Paulose Course: PG Diploma in Graphic Design College/ Institution: MAEER’s MIT Institute of Design Graduation Year: 20122015 01

Playful Artworks Since her school days, graphic designer Shana Paulose had always loved playing with pencil, paper and paint and also creating things out of nothing. To her design seemed like the obvious career path. She feels that the most difficult part of designing a logo or a brand identity is to get into the consumers head and try and picture what they want from the brand. Shana does a lot of user study and competitor research before starting a branding project, as she believes its essential to know exactly whom we are communicating with. Colours are an integral part of her designs as she strongly feels that they have a huge impact on the message she is trying to get across.
03
She love looking at her artworks and finding a small part of herself in it, which no one else will be able to see. 01 02 03 Branding for MIT Institute of Design’s convocation. Used the phoenix bird as my underlying theme to describe the graduates from college who are born again and given a chance to explore the world through new eyes. 04 Ludovico Einaudi album design. To capture both young and old target audiences, selected the traditional route by depicting the composers face, but used a contemporary and youthful style to illustrate it <

Digital is changing the Design Students! Deepti Pant Head-School of Communication Media & Film, Pearl Academy
Digital, is creating new mental frameworks of thinking by cutting out many steps that were earlier needed to arrive at a final design. Thus, it is cutting out mental “noise” and is helping in the direct translation of thoughts, ideas and concepts into design and products. This gives time to students to concentrate more on the concept or the story then the execution. This time in hand helps in creation of multi layered products and communication paths. Presence of digital gives access to places outside physical boundaries thus creating global citizens. It liberates thought, in that sense, which permits thinking in dimensions which were earlier not available easily to human mind like range of structure and pattern, colours and concepts and geometry and the story. But the concentration has started to drift. The patience is on its way out. Deep dependence on digital is just not changing the way we think, but also the structure of our brains, our relationships and hence our emotional well-being, which directly effects the design process of a designer. Availability of too much information without on-ground experiences and interactions will also lead to solutions which are not wise. So for a design student, digital is a 2 way sword, if you want you can use it to liberate your sensibilities and iterate your ideas so the concept creation is multi-cultural and global, but what it is taking away is the patience which creation requires. If a design student is able to balance this, then digital is like Kalptaru tree, which will never stop giving <
