THE FACES THE FACES THE PEOPLE IN ACTION

What Would Michelle Christie Do?

Trichologist Michelle Christie from Cheveux Hair Salon and Scalp Clinic explains how to manage the sensitivities around hair loss an incredibly sensitive subject with clients, and a stylist will tend to notice it on the client sometimes even before the client does themselves. The way to try to understand it is to break it down into three primary areas, is it thinning, shedding, or is it patchy?

If it is patchy this can cause alarm, especially bald patches, so reassure the client that this is quite common, and get them to see their GP or a trichologist. Usually, if it is just one area it will fill back in within a few months. Try avoiding the word ‘alopecia’ until a proper diagnosis is given, as this could send clients into a panic unnecessarily.

If it is thinning over a long time this can be female or male pattern hair loss and there are many products on the market that can help with this.
