Creative HEAD’s Most Wanted & The It List Awards have reached a milestone 21st birthday. A celebration of the best and brightest figures in UK & Irish hairdressing, as well as up-andcoming talents who are soon to be industry stars, it’s the biggest, smartest and most fun night in Creative HEAD’s calendar. And while last time we took a pause from an actual event and live streamed the awards instead, on Monday 6 September 2021 the spotlight was back on Printworks London, for a full-on IRL Grand Final in all its physical glory. And boy, what a night it was. With a guest list that read like a who’s who of hairdressing, plus a liberal helping of fashion, beauty and media VIPs, the mega-watt audience delivered in style, putting on a sartorial display that blew all others out of the water. But the biggest talking point of the night were the Most Wanted and The It List winners, who between them took home 19 trophies (when they eventually made it off the dance floor). They are the names reimagining and re-energising UK and Irish hairdressing and shaping a different future for us all. We bow down to their brilliance. AFTER PLAYING TO AN ALMOST EMPTY ROOM AT OUR LIVE-STREAMED 2020 GRAND FINAL (WHERE HE STILL MANAGED TO BRING THE HOUSE DOWN), STAND-UP COMIC RUSSELL KANE RETURNED TO IRL HOSTING DUTIES AT #MWIT21 – AND HE WAS IN HIS ELEMENT. FOLLOWING A BARNSTORMING SET HURLING HIMSELF AT THE BLACK COMEDY OF COVID – GERMAN VERSUS ENGLISH VACCINES, RESTRICTED DANCE MOVES IN HIS BELOVED IBIZA – THIS MOST HYPERACTIVE OF COMICS SPENT THE REST OF THE EVENING BUZZING AMONG THE AUDIENCE LIKE A MOSQUITO, LANDING ON UNSUSPECTING GUESTS WITH RANDOM INTERVIEWS, ESCORTING LEGENDS TO THE STAGE AND GETTING SO MANY LAUGHS IT MADE OUR SIDES HURT.

Millie Bloy, CODE Hair Consultants, Lowestoft
THE RISING STAR
Making an awesome start to a hairdressing career? Millie’s cracked the CODE! Her eye for detail has not only seen her excel on the salon floor (she’s a whizz at creating beautiful blondes) but she’s also become the salon’s de facto photographer and designer, all the while impressing clients and supporting her fellow team members.
“I have so much passion for hairdressing and I couldn’t believe it when my idol Zoë Irwin called out my name in front of all these amazing people. I’ll be forever grateful and will remember this moment for the rest of my life!” Sponsored by

Giuseppe Stelitano, Trevor Sorbie, London
THE VISIONARY
Thinking outside the box? Nah, Giuseppe is standing on top on the damn thing and reaching a whole new level! Just two years ago he was a barista in the Trevor Sorbie salon in Covent Garden, having moved from Italy to follow his dreams. Now, after pure passion for hair drove him to switch trades and complete an intensive training programme, he’s emerged as a game-changing colourist for the legendary London salon.
“Winning The Visionary is an amazing feeling, because I feel like people really understand my vision and recognise my passion. I have some more projects I’m working on, and I look forward to developing and sharing my ideas.” Sponsored by

Brooke Evans, BE Ironbridge, Telford
THE ENTREPRENEUR
This is one woman who means business! Intrepid Brooke’s salon, BE Ironbridge, was a former garage but she reimagined it as an inviting and luxurious salon that pays homage to her local area. The mechanic’s pit is now a wine cellar, the ceiling is papered with old magazines, the furniture upcycled and full of history – it’s a place that celebrates the old while making space for the new.

“I was already happy to finalise among some amazing young entrepreneurs, but to go on to win is incredible! The past 18 months have been tough, but to see where we are heading and to hear my name read out at MWIT21, I couldn’t be prouder!”
20/09/2021 16:22
Ellie Bond, Essex
THE EDITORIAL STYLIST When she’s in the room, chic’s about to go down! Setting session alight before she’s even hit 30, Ellie’s work is punchy, evocative, different – little wonder that a test shoot she did ended up on the front cover of Hunger magazine. Now Nick Irwin’s first assistant, building a who’s who of contacts and scoring her first work in Vogue while maintaining her client list, it’s no surprise the judges were impressed!
“Having the opportunity to show my work to leading industry figures is one thing, but to be recognised as The Editorial Stylist is completely mind blowing and a true honour. I can’t express my gratitude and love enough and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”

THE IT GUY
No, you’re not seeing double. Giuseppe took The It Guy title as well as The Visionary, making it quite the night for this Italian talent. The first person in the history of the Trevor Sorbie company to be offered a position on the main Artistic Team after presenting his first collection, Giuseppe has gone on to wow thousands on stage and in print – as well as The It List judges, of course.
“Winning The It Guy is another huge achievement. After working so hard over the past few years, it’s great to feel supported and recognised by the industry with my name now on the map. What a way to turn 30!” Sponsored by

Harriet Stokes, Humankind Hair, London
THE IT GIRL
Accelerating out of lockdown like an F1 car, Harriet took the plunge as an independent hairdresser and hasn’t looked back since. One of the industry’s most innovative colourists, renowned for bending the rules and experimenting with new ideas and formulas, Harriet has formed her own education business, Humankind Hair, teaching audiences around the globe. A popular winner, when Harriet’s name was read out, the audience erupted…
“Words can’t describe how proud I am to be 2021’s It Girl. It truly is a dream come true and feels even more special after the whirlwind of a year I’ve had, going out on my own as an independent stylist. Thank you to everyone who’s been part of my journey and for all the continued support!”

“Winning the first ever Texture Expert award means the absolute universe to me. This is going down in history and it’s to me, Lisa Farrall of WIG London. Like, come on! Sophia Hilton, Not Another, London
BUSINESS THINKER
There were tears on the way up to the stage as even seasoned award-winner Sophia didn’t believe she could win this one. But she is the boss – and that’s official – having displayed an impressive ability to pivot her business during lockdown, while providing a listening ear to struggling salon owners.
“I wasn’t expecting this award at all, which made it even more special – and which is why I couldn’t stop crying! I worked my ass off to help hairdressers during lockdown and to see it pay off and be recognised feels wonderful.”

Now, as a newly crowned Colour Expert, the world is her canvas!
“I honestly can’t put into words how it feels to be crowned Colour Expert! I am so proud because I truly love the work that I’m creating right now so it’s such a privilege and honour to have the industry recognise it with this award.”

BEST LOCAL SALON
Doing Scotland and its community proud, this beautiful, thoughtful Glasgow salon took the title after little more than a year of trading, thanks to owners Emma Diamond and Rochelle Jolley’s impressive support for local charities, artists and environmental causes.
“Winning means the world to us, especially after such a turbulent first year. Enriching and supporting our local community has been a huge focus for us from the start, and we’re delighted to bring this award home to Glasgow.”

Keen to get as many salons doing their bit, the duo have also developed Salon Re:Source, a free toolkit to help others take small, medium, and large steps.
“To be the first winners of Sustainability Hero is extra-special because it is such an important award and so close to our hearts. “Most Wanted is really special because it’s not just about showing a few pictures, it’s about sharing what you have done throughout the year. I’m so pleased to have won this award because what it gives me is not just a trophy but the desire and the motivation to continue.”

Paddy McDougall, Rainbow Room International
CREATIVE TALENT
All he does is win! Having landed the Colour Expert title in 2020, Paddy snapped up the prestigious Creative Talent award with a portfolio that blew away the judges. A former joiner from a staunchly working class background, Paddy admits he can find it a little surreal to be painting hair for Louis Vuitton in Seoul, or on set in the Icelandic tundra for Saint Laurent. But it’s his creative vision that has set him apart and, when he’s not on the road for fashion he’s still dedicated to his salon clients as one of Rainbow Room International’s most sought-after colourists.
“It’s amazing to be recognised at this kind of level but it’s important to remember I wouldn’t be in this position without a lot of help from a lot people. Without the support of Duff y, who has been massive for me, Nick Irwin, Simon Ellis, and my family, I wouldn’t be able to do what I do.” Sponsored by

Stag, Edinburgh
BEST SALON TEAM
Teamwork not only makes the dream work, it’s added another trophy to Stag’s growing stash. ‘Why can’t things be different?’ is a question often asked at this bright yellow Edinburgh business. Challenging the norms has led to a salon that is better than what people have experienced elsewhere, including a four-day working week, ‘skill share’ training sessions and therapy paid for by the business. Even team bonding trips go beyond – the Stag squad has been clubbing in Berlin, spent a weekend surfing in Malaga and even rented a castle in Scotland with a private chef.
“Winning this feels more special than ever because of the pandemic. Team Stag are closer than we’ve ever been and so supportive of each other as a whole – not just as hairdressers but also in terms of our mental health and who we are as individuals. To have that recognised in a room full of icons of our industry and our heroes is indescribable.” Sponsored by

Anna Cofone, London
INDEPENDENT STYLIST
She’s done it again! Doing things her way and SMASHING IT, Anna is our back-to-back Independent Stylist, having also taken the title in 2020. No stranger to working on big projects, one of her highlights of the past few months was designing the looks for Dua Lipa’s Studio 2054 show, a collaboration that was two months in the making.
“Winning an award like this makes the hard work, the long hours, the moments of uncertainty, the fear, all worthwhile. To be recognised among so many incredible artists, ones who I have looked up to for years and have been mentors to me, is just an absolute honour.”

He’s ripped up the co-working rule book and it has paid off! Electric Space, a members club set across 6,500sq ft for hairdressers, MUAs, photographers, film makers, art directors, publishers, musicians, and creative agency staff, is a melting pot of freelance artists in inspirational surroundings and with education and networking events. No wonder the judges gave it the thumbs-up.
“Winning the Award for Innovation is mind-blowing, on what is such a special night. Most Wanted always pushes boundaries, and is so respected. This award gives us unbelievable recognition and a true endorsement.”

HAIR TREND
She’s got the look! Karoliina’s image, combining shape and texture in a halo of brushed-out curls, is a look that’s become a major trend in 2021 as more women embrace their curls after lockdown. Beating hundreds of other entries to this popular category, Karoliina’s winning Hair Trend style works with different lengths, all while keeping that cool, lived-in look going…
“I feel totally privileged to have had my image chosen as the Most Wanted Hair Trend of 2021. To be recognised by the panel of great judges, whose work I both respect and admire, is truly amazing. I look forward to making my Most Wanted family proud.”

“I’ve had the most insane career and worked with the best of the best in the hairdressing world. My next challenge is to inspire new and emerging hairdressers. Tonight was a dream moment I will never forget.”

A true all-rounder – salon stylist, session stylist, brand ambassador and entrepreneur – Syd is also one of the most liked and respected hairdressers in the industry. Hard-working, humble and generally a delight to be around, he’s up there with the elite of the session world but keeps himself grounded at his family’s Q Cut salon in Kew, London.

“This is an incredible experience! Creative HEAD manages to bring all the different parts of the hairdressing industry together for this night each year, and standing in front of the industry’s finest and winning not just one but two awards was totally unexpected! I grew up around my dad’s salon as a kid and it still means the world to me. I’m still learning every day, these awards actually belong to every single person that I’ve worked with over my career to date. So here’s to everyone who has helped me, stood by me and inspired me, right back to when I first started hairdressing at the age of 17. If there is one thing that I have learnt it’s to surround yourself with people who love what they do and who smile and enjoy life every day!”

“This means the world to me because in 2013, as a completely unknown small independent salon, I set myself the task of becoming the first Business Thinker Legend, to prove to my Salon Jedi students and to my children that anything is possible when you set your mind to it. It was not a fast journey (it took me eight years) but in all honesty, that has made it even more special. I really hope this inspires other salon professionals, no matter what your location or business size, to get out there and achieve your dreams because this one was won for you.” Caroline Sanderson, owner of Ego Hair Design, Inverness, and the Salon Jedi Coaching Academy
“Creative Talent celebrates what it is to be a creative – developing ideas and fresh concepts to bring to the industry – which is what makes my hair heart beat. It has inspired and motivated me for the past three years, as I’m constantly thinking about my entry and how to put my ideas across. Thank you for creating something that drives us so much.” Zoë Irwin creative director at John Frieda
