U.S. Kids Golf Summer Local Tours In every sport, the engine that ignites a player's heart is the desire to compete. Competition at any level makes golf more fun. The U.S. Kids Golf Local Tours are created to provide boys and girls, ages fourteen & under (minimum age 5), the opportunity to advance their skills in the game in age appropriate competition without having to take the time, and incur the costs of having to travel long distances. The Local Tours are part of U.S. Kids Golf's overall mission: to help kids have fun learning the lifelong game of golf at an early age and to encourage family interaction that builds lasting memories. The U.S. Kids Summer Local Tour came to the Sarasota area for the first time this summer and it was well received. Tournament Director, Tony Panico, states that the tour averaged almost 40 kids per event. “With the help of my fellow PGA Professionals, we were able to get the kids out to compete on some of the best courses in town” says Tony. They played courses like River Wilderness C.C., Plantation C.C., The Meadows C.C., The Venetian Golf & River Club to name a few. “Working with and watching these kids play is very rewarding. The games future looks bright and it’s scary how good these kids are at such a young age.” The future looks bright for the U.S. Kids Golf Tour. Greater Sarasota Jr. Golf Association The summer of 2009 was a busy one for GSJGA members! Our normal summer program includes S.N.A.G. (Starting New At Golf), Fun Camps, Mini-Tour (Beginners), Futures Tour (9-Holers - Regular & Modified Divisions) and Regular Tour (18-Holers). In 2008, we added the Elite Junior Tour (EJT), which enables junior golfers (GSJGA members and non-members) to compete in events that offer both affordability and Junior Golf Scoreboard points. This past summer, we held 4 of these two-day tournaments. UPCOMING EVENTS GSJGA HOLIDAY JUNIOR AMATEUR will be held on Saturday, December 12, 2009. Golf will begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun. The field will be limited to 30 teams. Teams will consist of 1 junior golfer and 4 amateurs. The format will be a scramble. The cost for the golf, cart, and tee gift, lunch and awards banquet is $100 per person. Proceeds benefit the GSJGA. Polo Grill’s Miso Glazed Chilean Sea Bass Ingredients (Yield: 4 servings) 6 Tablespoons white miso (fermented soybean paste) 1/3 cup sugar 1/4 cup mirin (sweet Japanese rice wine) 1/4 cup sake 4 6-ounce Chilean sea bass or black cod fillets (each about 3/4 inch thick) Start marinating the fish for this dish overnight or at least two hours before you plan to serve it. Mix first 4 ingredients in shallow baking dish. Add fish and turn to coat. Cover dish tightly and refrigerate 2 to 4 hours. Preheat broiler. Remove fish from marinade. I have been associated with The Oaks in one way or another since the early 1990’s when I came to Sarasota to be a club professional at The Oaks Club.
