The Gasparilla Distance Classic Association is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising funds for youth charitable organizations and running programs in the Tampa Bay area. Since the first running of the Gasparilla Distance Classic in Feb. 1978, as a direct result of the running events, $5.9 million has been donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Tampa, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tampa Bay, The Friends of Tampa Recreation, University of Tampa Cross Country & Track Program, Pepperjack’s Kids Running Program, Tampa Bay Area High School Athletic Programs, various non-profit organizations and Tampa Bay area running related programs for kids and adults. The Gasparilla Distance Classic Association is also proud of its fundraising partnerships with St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and, Joy FM’s Team Freedom. 15K Start: Brorein St. & Franklin St. In 2022, to assist with COVID 19 Mitigation, the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic 15K will feature two rolling Wave Starts. Each Wave will feature four corrals of 500. Wave #1 will Start at 6:45 a.m. and Wave #2 at 6:55 a.m. As a corral clears the Start Line, the next corral will be immediately walked forward to the Start Line. On Race Morning, once a corral reaches capacity at 500, the corral will close and late comers will be directed to an open corral. Race Numbers will be assigned according to each participants Projected Finish Time (90 minutes & Under or 91 minutes & Over) that was provided at the time of registration. 5K Start (9:15 a.m.): Brorein St. & Ashley St. In 2022, to assist with COVID 19 Mitigation, the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic 5K Run will feature eight Wave Starts. Each participant will be assigned a Wave according to their Projected Finish Time that was provided at the time of registration. SUN., FEB. 27, 2022 PUBLIX GASPARILLA DISTANCE CLASSIC HALF MARATHON & 8K • Publix Gasparilla Half Marathon Rolling Start: 
Platt St. & Bayshore Blvd. Start: 6 a.m. • Publix Gasparilla Rolling 8K Start: Bayshore Blvd. & Verne St. Start: 9:15 a.m.

USAA WARRIOR CHALLENGE

The Gasparilla Distance Classic Association and USAA take a great deal of pride in recognizing those that currently serve or have served in the U.S. Military. In 2009, USAA and the Association created the USAA WARRIOR CHALLENGE AWARD, a designation that on an annual basis, is awarded to the military branch that registers the most participants combined in the 15K, 5K, Half Marathon and/or 8K. In 2020, there were 1900 active, retired and former military personnel who participated in one or more of the Race Weekend Running Events. With 680 registered participants, the U.S. Army was the recipient of the 2020 USAA Warrior Challenge Award with the U.S. Air Force close behind at 595 participants.

USAA MILITARY CHALLENGE

The 2022 Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic Race Weekend will once again include an individual military competition in the 15K, 5K, Half Marathon and 8K. The USAA Military Challenge (See PG. 26) will be open to active, retired and former military personnel. RACE WEEKEND TIMING, PRESENTED BY Publix

Race participants will be timed utilizing the ChronoTrack B-Tag Timing System developed and designed with RFID–radio frequency identification. A timing tag will be placed on the back of each runner’s bib/race number and SHOULD NOT be removed. Transponder pads at the Start, Finish and along the race course will record the participant’s time for compiling the Tampa Bay Times Race Results. For immediate Post-Race Results, a personalized QR Code will be placed on the front of all Race Bibs/Numbers. By scanning the QR Code (Smart Phone QR Code Reader app required), each finisher will receive their Start Times and Net Times, as well as any splits that were recorded.

Stroller Roll participants should enter the staging area, (marked with Kellogg’s barricade signage) from barricade break on west side of Florida Avenue. Once all of the Wave #8 runners have cleared the Start Area, the 5K Stroller Roll participants will be allowed access and walked to the ‘official’ 5K Start Line at Brorein & Franklin St. Stroller Roll registered participants should should utilize Channelside Dr. to access the Staging Area on Florida Ave. PLEASE NOTE - 2022 PGDC Registered Participants not wearing their 2022 PGDC COVID-19 Verification Wristband WILL NOT be allowed to access their Start Corral.

KASHI 5K WALK

Start Time: 9:45 a.m. (51 min. & over) Kashi 5K Walkers will stage on Florida Avenue, south of Brorein St. and behind the Kellogg’s 5K Stroller Roll Staging Area. Kashi 5K Walk participants should enter the staging area, (marked with Kashi barricade signage) from barricade break on west side of Florida Avenue. RACE WEEKEND RUNNER & WALKER SAFETY

For the safety and enjoyment of all, the courses are restricted to registered participants and Official Race Personnel only. **Animals of any type, skateboards or inline skates, Rollerblades, roller skates, bicycles and cars are prohibited. Participants with stroller age children will be restricted to the Kellogg’s 5K Stroller Roll and WILL NOT be allowed in the 15K, 5K Run, 5K Walk, Half Marathon or 8K. STRICTLY

TAMPA BAY TIMES/PGDC RESULTS SPECIAL SECTION

On Sunday, Feb. 27, the Tampa Bay Times printed edition will feature Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic 15K & 5K Coverage, photos and limited results. On Monday, Feb. 28, the Tampa Bay Times will feature a digital Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic Results Special Section available on tampabay.com that will include PGDC Race Weekend Coverage, Photos and complete (but not Official) Age Group Results. On Wednesday, March 2, a printed version of the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic Results Special Section will be included in all single copies of the Tampa Bay Times sold in Tampa Bay Area Publix locations. For those folks that live out of the Tampa Bay Area, TBT-PGDC Race Results Special Section will be available (and mailed to your home) for $5. • This special purchase includes postage, packaging, handling, the Wednesday, March 2nd Edition of the Tampa Bay Times and the TBT-PGDC Race Results Special Section. • The $5 TBT-PGDC Race Results Special Section can be purchased online or by mail at the time of registration.

COURSE CLOCKS & MILE MARKERS, PRESENTED BY Publix

For the 15K, 5K, Half Marathon & 8K, clocks and mile markers will be located at each mile.

RUNNER TRACKING, POWERED BY ASICS

Spectators, family and friends (on-site or at home) can electronically track multiple runners along the 15K, 5K, Half Marathon & 8K course by receiving real-time updates via email, text messaging and/or Facebook postings. Updates will be received as runners cross checkpoints (will vary according to distance), as well as at the Finish Line. Beginning Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022, Runner Tracking Registration will be available at Rungasparilla.com.

2022 PGDC ONLINE RACE REGISTRATION

Race Roster Online Registration is available for the Publix Gasparilla Distance Classic 15K & 5K, Publix Gasparilla Half Marathon & 8K, and while available, the Michelob Ultra, Michelob Ultra Pure Gold, Bud Light Seltzer and Stella Solstice Challenges at Rungasparilla.com. To register online, you must have a MC, Visa, Amex or Discover credit card. PLEASE NOTE: When registering online, Race Roster does assess a service charge.

PUBLIX GASPARILLA DISTANCE CLASSIC 15K & 5K 15K & 5K ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

• P rior to entering the 8 On Your Side Health & Fitness Expo for packet pick-up, all 15K & 5K participants will be asked to show proof of a completed COVID-19 Vaccination Series (no later than Feb. 11) or proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72-hours of race weekend (after Tuesday, Feb. 22). For more information, please click here. • All 15K & 5K participants MUST sign the Race Application Waiver. • All 15K & 5K participants are encouraged to wear a mask (made with at least two layers of breathable material) while in the Start Corrals. It’s reccomended that masks be removed after crossing the Start Line. • A Parent or Legal Guardian MUST sign the Race Application Waiver for those under 18. • Adults with stroller age children 4 & under that will participate in the Kellogg’s 5K Stroller Roll, must provide the names and ages of children that will be riding in baby joggers and strollers; $5 registration fee for each is required. See PG.12 for 
additional Kellogg’s 5K Stroller Roll information. • For children 5 & over, payment of a 5K registration fee ($40/$45) is required and an entry form must be completed in their name and MUST include the signaure of a parent or legal guardian.

Half Marathon participants must maintain a 16 minute-per-mile pace.
