Chloe Lamb was born in 1960 and spent her childhood in Wiltshire. Both her parents were artistic. Her father attended the Slade School of Fine Art and made set designs as a hobby whilst pursuing a career in the City. Her mother used her creative talents on embroidery and in the garden. Chloe has painted all her life but it wasn’t until after her second son was born in 1990 that she began to take it seriously. She attended the Heatherley School of Fine Art where she learnt the disciplines of drawing and watercolour. In 1989 Chloe and her family moved to Hampshire where she then had her own studio to work in at home. She attended classes with Robin Child at the Lydgate Art Research Centre in Wiltshire. Child has been her main mentor over the years and he himself was trained by a Professor who studied under Walter Sickert. Child believes that Chloe is one of those rare painters whose real love of paint, brush mark and distinctive compositional form raises her above other professional painters. Chloe uses her surrounding landscape as inspiration and she then memorises colour and mood and transfers it straight onto canvas in her studio. Sometimes taking as much as a year, she will build up layer upon layer of paint, until she is satisfied with the end result. Chloe had her first solo exhibition in 1995 and in 1998 Cricket Fine Art was delighted to take on Chloe who has become one of its most outstanding and successful artists. Chloe’s work is held in collections around the world and she has had solo and mixed shows in the United States. In this exhibition Chloe wanted to achieve form, colour and simplicity on a small scale. All her talents have been combined without losing the vibrancy and energy of her larger paintings. To own a painting by Chloe Lamb is a wonderful and rewarding experience and as Lord Poltimore Deputy Chairman, Sotheby’s Europe said “Chloe’s work requires the viewer to have a little imagination and to be constantly delighted when you understand what she has seen and transposed so beautifully onto canvas.”
