FI KATZLER
A painting requires a little mystery, some vagueness, and some fantasy.
Edgar Degas
The paintings in this exhibition depict the beauty of the Mediterranean landscape, mountains, sun-drenched olive groves, lobsters and more. Fi Katzler’s enjoyment of the unending adventure of oil paint is evident in her lively canvases, and each one is a careful balance of observation and imagination.
Having studied art in the UK, Fi moved to Aix-en-Provence in 2008 where she continued to paint, studying with the Gardanne Art School and the Leo Marchutz School of Art. Living in France, she drew inspiration from a variety of motifs, often painting en plein air to capture an immediate response to the landscape.
CRICKET FINE ART
Nowadays, having relocated to the Algarve in Portugal, Fi prefers to make small studies in her sketchbook whilst outside; these sketches are then used for reference once back in the studio. In her recent work, Fi has developed a very personal use of colour, and with painterly brushstrokes she works quickly. The artist explains: ‘I try to paint fast in order to bypass the intellect. If I allow my logical mind to take over when am at work, the painting can become static and less vibrant.’
This is Fi’s third solo show with Cricket Fine Art, and her paintings are admired and collected worldwide.
