Emma Haggas 'Living Landscape"

Page 1

EMMA HAGGAS

I love the whole process of painting, the choosing and mixing of colours, and the building of a palette – even the smell! Experimenting with colour relationships and using contrasting tones is a challenge I embrace. Layers of thin and thick paint, brave brushstrokes and the textures made by a palette knife all produce a variety of exciting results and happy accidents. I try to capture this energy in my landscapes. Emma Haggas Emma’s paintings totally reflect her big personality, full of colour, always ready to put a smile on your face. Her paintings happily fit into any household with ease and grace. Charlie Bradstock

Emma has done an amazingly strong set of landscapes in recent years to make up this collection of strongly felt, loved, and beautifully obser ved downland views. There is an electric charge that swings through these landscapes where colours chase each other through patterns of tracks and field systems. These are large landscapes with a formidable amount of information set down to tempt the eye. Emma’s obser vation and interest in her surroundings help her artistic ability deepen and broaden. These are works with personality, great character, a genuine love of rich paint surfaces and brushwork that excites. Robin Child The purpose of art is not to produce a photo-realistic record of life but to take liberties with reality, to the extent that our minds and our hearts are stimulated, and something deeper within us is stirred and unlocked.
