Life of Pi

LIFE OF PI

Although I usually have a scientific mind, like Pi, I don’t think we are supposed to just confine ourselves to just one belief. Maybe both stories are true. Suppose they were stuck on a raft: the mother, the cook, the Buddhist and maybe “Richard Parker” the tiger, altogether. Of both stories (despite my scientific mind) the one I prefer and want to believe in is the one with the tiger and the animals. Yes, it’s harder to believe and comprehend. I believe that maybe, just maybe, this fantastic story is true.

In hindsight, I don’t think we’re supposed to chose, but to use one to complement the other. A floating island is technically possible and easy to imagine. So like Pi with religions, we’re supposed to use both stories and our own beliefs to choose. For in essence, the choice is always ours.

LIFE OF PI – BELIEVE IN THE UNBELIEVABLE! In my opinion, the message of the film is to believe that in every dark moment of our lives there is always a way out of it, that there is hope if we have faith. Pi was in a very difficult situation, but he never lost hope because he believed in himself and as long as he kept his mind sane and if he had faith in getting through it, he would have what he needed.

In the end, Pi gets happiness and a life full of joys. That only happened because he was a believer and had a lot of strength in his heart. This is a story that makes you believe in the unbelievable!

LIFE OF PI In the beginning of the movie, Pi says to the writer: “This is a story that will make you believe in God.” When I saw that, I thought: “How can someone believe in God?” The truth is that when Pi is telling the first part of his story, I thought: “Oh no! This is a story all about religion”, but that thought went away because of all the amazing elements of the unbelievable events of his story.

It’s such a beautiful and gorgeous story that goes far beyond our imagination. We travel to all these wonderful places in the movie. It makes us want to believe that it is a true story. I have to confess that I was a little disappointed when I discovered that it wasn’t true. The movie touches us in a lot of different ways because it talks about a lot of themes that are important to us like friendship, love and faith. It makes us reflect on all those themes and transmits the message that we have to enjoy every moment because everything can go away in just one second. But most of all, this story tells us that above all, we need hope in our lives and as Pi referred in the movie, in spite of all the sadness and disappointment that we can be living in that moment, God will not abandon us and he is always watching. All these messages that the films transmits to us, Pi transmits to the writer and at the end of the film, the writer believes in God and most of all in hope. So, I would say that the most important message this movie transmits to us is hope. Bruna Machado, turma 10CT1

LIFE OF PI – RELIGIONS ARE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE SAME GOD At first sight, in the beginning of the movie, I didn’t understand how that story would make someone believe in God, as Mamaji said. The story was just showing us the life of a boy that follows three religions at the same time (Hinduism, Muslim and Christianity). I was thinking that the faith of that boy was absurd and not a motive to believe in God. filmschoolrejects.com

As the film advanced, I began to understand how what Mamaji said would happen. The story was about a shipwreck in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, and the castaways were the boy and four animals: a tiger, a zebra, a hyena and orangutan. At the end of the movie, Pi tells us that the story he told was only a version of what had happened and that there was another version, a more believable version. After this, I suddenly understood what the director of the film wanted to make us understand. He was comparing the story of Pi with God. The story of Pi had different versions and we couldn’t discover which was the real one; just like God. There are different religions, but they all say the same story about the same God, about the same morals, but from a different perspective. In my opinion, the message of the film is that all religions are true and that they are not really one against the other, but in fact, they fulfill each other. Lucas Nogueira, turma 10CT1

LIFE OF PI This movie has changed me. Not just because of the beautiful scenes, the amazing performance of the actors, but also because of the way that it touches our hearts. This movie has made me think about the real meaning of life (a life that can change very much in a small moment because of a small and insignificant choice). This movie is also a way of showing the world that religion is a part of us (a part that we can’t ignore and a part that changes us).

Religion is very important to Pi because as he admits every religion gives him the effort that makes him survive. This is an effort that he can’t ignore because he is alone with a tiger. And in my opinion that tiger represents his family (a family that stifles him about all the choices that he should take freely). Finally, I can say that this movie tells us that we should always believe, not just in ourselves, but in the choices we make. And we should also believe that in every situation and in every problem a magical island will appear. Filipa Oliveira, turma 10CT1

LIFE OF PI This film opens the door for us into the life of Pi.

Pi is a teenager with his heart divided into three religions. He is a Catholic, a Hindu and a Muslim. All of these together provide the peace, love and knowledge that make him who he is. He feels that each religion is important for his survival and understanding of this world.

When he is confronted with the fact that his family and the zoo are moving to Canada, he feels he’s leaving all his memories. On the way to Canada, the ship is wrecked and Pi is left in a lifeboat with what he says to be a tiger (and other animals). Pi manages to survive 227 days. This is an extraordinary and unbelievable fact (for many people), surviving at sea. It is hard and with a tiger, even harder. If we reflect on Pi’s experiences, his “friendship” with God gave him the strength and the faith to survive at sea. The movie shows us that religion was the way for Pi to have a happy ending. If we believe in something with all our heart, we can see the world clearly and have the strength to deal with difficulties. Sara Oliveira, turma 10CT1

LIFE OF PI Humans always need something to hold on to, something to believe in. When I saw this movie in cinema magazines for the first time, I didn’t want to see it. I sincerely thought that it was “crap”, something like all of those other movies about religion. I’m a very serious person, when it comes to this subject. My mum and dad are very religious, but my brother and I, have grown apart from that and everyone knows zerochan.net that I have a very strong personality in that case, so when I think of me as a believer; I see myself every Sunday in church and praying every day. As I don’t do that, I prefer to distance myself a bit from all those things. But after the teacher showed the movie I actually felt really good and complete; feelings that I never thought that I would feel with this film. Life of Pi doesn’t talk about religion at all or rather about a certain religion. It talks about faith. Faith, because it shows us that in the hard moments of our life, if we have hope, we can survive. There’s a good thing that could be coming. Pi, after losing everything and everyone, only had a tiger and his faith with him. That faith is only one, for me, the message of the movie is that no matter how many religions we have, they all take us to the same place: to truth, life, love, friends, family and happiness. They all make us believe that life isn’t that hard. Throughout the movie, Pi has a lot of bad moments, but he always has something to hold on to. He shows us that if we have faith, we never lose everything at all. We will always have something magical and extraordinary waiting for us to find and live it.
