R ES E A RC H FI E LD S Architecture – Engineering - Physics - Geography – Ecology It is imperative to integrate energy and climate into architecture by providing a more effective and holistic management of renewable energy like solar, wind and water supplies, particularly when it is reinforced by science-based innovation in the landscape, urban and domestic scale. This preliminary research proposal is determined as much by biological, geographic and social factors as by any alternative of appropriate technology. The idea is to provide water for forestation and farming (dripping techniques); and drinking water and electricity in existing informal villages, 16 kilometres away of Iquique, Chile, in a selected fog oasis. What follows, therefore, is a survey of three approaches to the repairing and inhabitation of self-sufficient ecosystems: A. TERRITORIAL SCALE: Stop desertification and repair existing ecosystems (Silvestre flora and fauna) in 7 fog oasis, Atacama Desert, Chile B. LOCAL SCALE: Supply water and electricity to small communities (potential forestation, farming, rural electricity & water harvest) in one fog oasis nearby Iquique city, Chile. A and B require the design of a photo-hydro tower catcher to develop sustainable agriculture and rural electrification C . D O M E S TI C S C AL E : Fabrication of an autonomous housing prototype: a foldable/collapsible photo and hydro sensitive screens integrated in a modular frame made with timber/metal. Water tank can be constructed with available materials (ceramics, bricks, concrete, glass fibre, etc).
