HAPPY NEW YEAR SOSC MEMBERS AND FRIENDS:

The SOSC had such a wonderful time at Paulo's at The Mansion last month - it was the ultimate dining and entertainment experience for many of us. Thanks to everyone's hard work and dedication in making the event a wonderful Christmas party for our members (more details and great photos on pages 7&8).

At this special time of year we reflect on those who have been a part of our lives. As Helen Keller once said "The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched. They must be felt with the heart."

We look forward to seeing many of you at BUNCO on January 9 at 6:30 PM! Cheers to 2013! Deb Arquiette and the Board of Governors 2012-2013

Thank you for a great SOSC year in 2012 and we anticipate a great 2013. May it be filled with health, happiness and abundance for all.

Paulo’s at ! Mansion December Social Highlights

Our program gals have done it again!!

The Mansion was a wonderful experience for the 93 ladies that attended and our favorite Priest....Father Linsky! As Father prayed he said, "Thank you for the opportunity to be surrounded by 100 beautiful women before I deploy" (laughter filled the room). You all looked so beautiful in your holiday attire!

Vicki acquired all of the fantastic entertainment. The first wonderful sounds were from the AF three piece jazz band! They also provided wonderful Holiday CDs at everyone's place setting. Thanks Vicki! The music as everyone walked in really set the mood for a great, festive morning! The holiday spirits were flowing and the laughter, smiles and fellowship filled the room! We had everyone find their seats and then the scrumptious feast began: salad, fresh bread and butter, then an entree (4 choices...it was hard to choose) before the grand finale...either beignets with caramel

and chocolate sauce or berries!! It was a thoroughly luxurious dining experience. Hats off to Paulo and David and their wonderful staff !

S AY C H E E S E ! Find more event photos on

scottosc.shutterfly.com

Not too long after we began to eat, another surprise appeared.....the O'Fallon High School Madrigal singers....such talented young adults! There must been at least 40 of them in attendance in their historical clothing and their voices were just amazing!! Then up on the roof top....click, click, click.......down in around the front

door...came in young St. Nick (Santa Jim Howe) to deliver with his elves (his 2 sweet sister-in-laws) a bell to each person in attendance. On the bag it stated, "Though I've grown older, the bell still rings for me, as it does for all who truly believe." Thanks Santa and your elves !! So it was indeed a "MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A VERY GREAT EVENT !!!" Deb Arquiette, President

Mimosas  &  Manuscripts On December 11th, we met at one of the member's homes for a lovely Christmas brunch.  We took a break from our usual book discussions in order to take the time to simply enjoy each other's company.  After some yummy mimosas and treats, we gathered around the Christmas tree for a book exchange, in lieu of the more traditional ornament exchange.  The members also brought in 23 gently used books to donate to local libraries, in an effort to promote literacy in our community.  Our usual meeting date/time is the second Tuesday of the month at 9:30am.  Our next gathering will be on Tuesday, January 15th, when we will be discussing 'An American Heiress' by Daisy Goodwin. We have a fun and lively group and are always excited to welcome new members into our Mini-Club.

Books & Breakfast We will be reading The Light Between Oceans by ML Stedman this month, and meeting for a book discussion on January 25 at Becky Lopez’s home. Please contact miniclubs@scottosc.com if you’d like to join us!

The Virginia Employment Commission

Google recently released a new website to assist transitioning service members, veterans and military spouses. Powered through partnerships with organizations such as the US Chamber of Commerce, Syracuse University's Institute for Veterans and Military Families as well as Hire Heroes USA, this platform is designed to help veterans and their family members find employment. Worth checking out.Â

Do you have questions about military spouse unemployment compensation? The Military Spouse Residency Relief Act? Or how about looking for local employers who might be hiring? Moving state to state, many of our employment/ unemployment benefits questions are going to be best answered at the state level since the issues are local and the benefits vary. Remember to check in with your state employment resources off the installation if you're in the market for a job.
