Hello SOSC Members & Friends!
Together we have made the ordinary truly EXTRAORDINARY! We all know that an organization is only as strong as the members and volunteers who support it, and in that realm, the SOSC is really blessed. As we began this board year and organized for the year ahead, we realized that we would need to raise awareness of our club, reinvigorate the membership with some new activities, and continue the superb support the SOSC has always provided our military families. Here are a few highlights of the wonderful 2012-2013 year so far: How did the SOSC raise awareness of the club? • Updates on our Facebook page - we reached everyone at the speed of a mouse click • We increased membership to 200 members through our online membership and by attending Spouse Link on base and more • We attended the base picnic in June to promote our new logo and club • There's a brand new look to our web site and “The Contact" newsletter • Advertisements in more newspapers about our events and membership activities • Advertisements on-base and word-of-mouth increased exposure to our club
How did our new ideas complement our well established activities?
• The Welcome Back Luau Social was a huge hit for our moms as well as new members • The new mini clubs were well received by many members: running club, movie club, two book clubs, BUNCO & many more • The new Moms & Tots play group was well received by moms and kids • Strong attendance at programs like "Make it, Bake it, Fake it”, Bunco, BLINGO, and also the Mary Engelbreit event, which brought over 100 of us together for a great time! • Christmas Time at Paulo’s Mansion in O'Fallon rang in the holidays nicely with the Scott AFB band and O'Fallon high school performers • Every function was well attended and the door prizes were a huge hit • We found a wonderful new avenue for our moms to drop off their children in a well organized daycare from 9-1 at FUMC/PMO in O'Fallon, IL during our daytime events How did we better support our military families? • Another RECORD year for the Trivia Night, raising over $11,000 to support the local charities', scholarships' and scholastic awards
YOU ANN R SOUR CE F OUN OR N CE EW EVEN MENTS, UPCO S, TS A M ND M OR E I N G !
• Local base agencies and charities received funds from the SOSC to help support their programs/events • Many of you donated cookies for the Cookie Drive and food for the Airmen's BBQ....they love the touch of home :) • We supported the Women's History Month thru cookie donations and by working various events • Worked with community businesses to receive the support of many scholarships for our high school seniors and military spouses • Mary Engelbreit designed three pieces of art work after attending our September event and proceeds from the designs are donated towards the Military Child Education Collation ( MCEC). Around Fall all of the ME designs will be for sale in AAFES stores As you can see, our talented members’ efforts have positively benefited our Airmen and their families and have expanded those special bonds and the positive energy that we share with each other as SOSC members. I am looking forward to seeing you at the many of our May events!!! Inquire within on "how you too can become involved in the new board year"!!! ~Deb Arquiette, President 2012-2013

Scott AFB Chick-Fil-A Carlyle Ave & Green Mount Rd. For great deals on meals at the new ChickFil-A in Green Mount Commons, text CFAGREEN to 411257. Friends Of The Military: For the past five years, efforts have been underway to develop and expand the H.E.R.O.E.S. Care program to ensure it would serve as an effective and meaningful system of support for military members and their families affected by the stressors of deployment. The leadership of both Operation Homefront National and the Missouri Chapter of Operation Homefront have worked together for more than a year to establish H.E.R.O.E.S. Care as an independent entity. That work is now complete. Effective March 7th, the organization that you have known as Operation Homefront of Missouri will now be known as H.E.R.O.E.S. Care and will be run out of the same location, be staffed by the same people you know, be governed by the same board of directors, and continue to offer and provide all of the services enjoyed by our military families in the past. To read the joint press release CLICK HERE. My thanks to our partner organizations and the tireless work of the many fine people who made this possible. ~ Jon Jerome
