Quality that brings comfort to life! Commitment to quality, service, research and development has helped Mitsubishi Electric gain a leading position in today’s marketplace. Mitsubishi Electric have a proud history in the manufacturing and supply of leading edge electrical and electronic equipment for both domestic and commercial use. Now celebrating the 90th year of quality service, efforts to make indoor life more comfortable began in 1921 with the introduction of the first electric fan which became an instant hit. Some 10 years later, coolers began to be manufactured, which proved just as popular. Since then the understanding that technology is the driving factor of change in our lives has seen them become a world leader in energy efficient air conditioning systems. The commitment to quality service, research and development has helped Mitsubishi Electric gain a leading position in today’s marketplace in a wide variety of areas from heating, cooling, air-conditioning and refrigeration, to visual systems, factory automation, railways and heavy engineering. Since 1980 to the present day the pace at which Mitsubishi Electric has introduced and refined products that benefit society, industry and individuals has been nothing less than astonishing. These technologies include the world’s first large scale LED screen for sports arenas, the world’s largest CRT television screen for the consumer market, the world’s first spiral escalator, the world’s fastest elevators, the antenna technology behind the world’s first in-flight internet service, solar cell technology and much more. Today Mitsubishi Electric is a global giant with operations in over 35 countries, with more than 97,000 employees. Whether it’s consistent heating or cooling for the home or office, Mitsubishi Electric offers the consumer state-of-the-art technology that is quiet, simple to use, reliable and above all, energy efficient. Mitsubishi Electric’s Advanced Technology Inverter Systems are more economical and efficient than conventional systems. Conventional non-inverter systems run at a fixed speed. To maintain the set temperature the compressor switches on/off so room temperatures continually fluctuate, falling rising, and falling again. To overcome this problem Mitsubishi Electric’s advanced inverter technology gently increases or decreases power to suit the prevailing conditions reaching the desired temperature quicker and more efficiently without severe temperature fluctuations. The resulting reduction in electricity consumption by their energy saving technology not only saves money but also reduces your carbon footprint on the environment. Air-conditioning units manufactured by Mitsubishi Electric also boast extreme quietness. Improvements in the design of the fan blades combined with a new grill shape has seen them become No 1 in the industry. The outdoor unit is even quieter when the outside temperature drops, as it automatically switches to low noise mode which reduces its operating noise by a further 3dB, whilst the new MSZ-GE indoor unit range boast a mere 19dB noise level, thereby further increasing comfort level within your home. When it comes to comfort, efficiency and durability, Mitsubishi Electric has a distinct advantage over the opposition – we call it MEQ – Mitsubishi Electric Quality. Simply put it is a superior standard that is applied to the business. While other systems may
4
meet stringent industry standards, Mitsubishi Electric continually strive to exceed them. MEQ delivers air conditioning systems at the leading edge of technology that operate efficiently in extreme weather conditions, year in, year out. MEQ gives consumers three important advantages: • Comfort: The creation of products that are designed to provide you with exceptional comfort in your surroundings, in all weather conditions. • Efficiency: A strive for the perfect balance of performance, reliability, low power consumption and a long operational span for all products. The result is an air conditioning range that is rated among the best in the industry in terms of design, quality and energy efficiency. • Durability: All products are subjected to rigorous durability testing, which includes harsher temperature extremes than are likely to be found anywhere in the world. This allows a production of higher quality products that protect your investment through years of reliable service.

not just another brick in the wall New Brickwork Manual offers a guide to creating successful brick structures
Think Brick’s new industry standard Brickwork Manual is designed to make choosing, working, and building with bricks easy. A rock solid manual for a rock solid industry, it is designed to assist builders to navigate new products and new methods of working with clay bricks, promising to be an indispensable guide to industry. The Brickwork Manual offers technical information in an easy to understand format alongside helpful tips to guide you through a client job from start to finish. It covers everything you need to know to make your project flow smoothly, including logically working through brick selection, site preparation, bricklaying, and brick cleaning. For instance, did you know that there are three crucial aspects to a good wall? Correct brick selection, skillful bricklaying, and appropriate brick cleaning. Arming yourself with knowledge is key as different bricks may require different mortar and preparation. The manual guides you through each process step by step.
Customer expectations are another important element covered by the manual. Helping a customer to visualise the end result means you’re halfway to completing an effective project. A clever checklist is also provided to help you work through the main elements of building with brick to ensure best practice and a successful outcome. Clay brick is one of the most popular choices for Australian homes due to its superior strength, quality, impressive colour, and low maintenance. Brick homes are warmer in winter, cooler in summer and quieter all year round. More than 16 million bricks are produced annually in this country, and the industry employs 30,000 people, from manufacturing to installation. Think Brick Australia represents the Australian brick industry and is committed to bringing together architects, builders, and bricklayers to ensure clay brick construction remains at the forefront of modern design for many years to come.

ingenious product ends call-back headaches Waterstop Streamline was developed by a team of Building Supervisors, Water-Proofers, Tilers, Shower Screen Fitters and Building Maintenance Contractors to address the constant problem of call-backs due to leaking shower screens. After extensive testing, it was found that the cause of most leaks was due to the design of the shower and not to an error by the contractor. Gleda Pty Ltd Managing Director Brett Krey explains; “In most showers, whether a hobbed, hob-less or recessed design, the screen is sealed directly to the tiles and not to the water-proofing membrane. This design allows water to wick through the grout lines where it travels through the glue cavity underneath the tiles that the screen is ‘sealed’ to, and escapes the shower enclosure.” “Waterstop Streamline provides a positive seal between the screen and the water-proofing membrane, trapping the water within the enclosure and eliminating the call-backs. Its unique, one piece design creates a template for the following trades and makes it very difficult for mistakes to occur. When compared to a tiled hob, Streamline is faster to install, looks better, wastes less space and works out cost-neutral!” Move out of the dark ages and switch to what is rapidly becoming the new industry-standard method of shower construction.

Take control of your shower construction No matter how good your contractors are, most shower designs cause problems. Does your current method positively connect the screen to the membrane or just to the tiles? Fact - grout lines and glue cavities transmit water. Does your current design waste valuable floor space with ugly hobs? Are you paying your tiler to cut 30 or more tiles, whether this is itemised on the invoice or not?
With so many new products on offer in our industry it is difficult to find time to investigate them all. We are very glad we made time for this one. Mr Dennis Wright Building and Project Manager, Beazley Homes

Many of our customers report that changing to Waterstop Streamline was one of the easiest they have ever made and their only regret was not having made the switch earlier.

daily delivers for Kennards National equipment hire company Kennards Concrete Care has recently purchased its fifth light-duty IVECO ECODAILY Cab Chassis.
“We bought our first IVECO ECODAILY four years ago and have progressively purchased others as the company has grown. These trucks must be available for the delivery of hire equipment to our customers on a 24-hour-a-day basis – so reliability is a prerequisite, also the 40,000km service intervals reduce downtime and of course cost. We have had a trouble-free run from the DAILYs and this is just one of the reasons that we have continued to add more to our fleet,” said Kennards Concrete Care general manager, Matt Hardy. “Fuel economy is obviously important to us, as it is with anyone operating trucks in their business. The ECODAILYs are unbelievably well ahead with fuel-efficiency compared to the Japanese sourced brand of trucks our company has used,” Mr Hardy added. Mr Hardy also said that during their selection process, driver comfort and safety were two of the key criteria. “Our drivers spend many hours behind the wheel doing multiple deliveries, so the ergonomic aspect of egress and ingress is important as well as comfort in the driver’s seat,” he said. Mr Hardy explains that if a driver is not comfortable and the truck gives a rough ride it can become very fatiguing, but Kennards’ drivers say the ECODAILYs ride and comfort is extremely car-like. Kennards Concrete Care is a specialist equipment hire company helping contractors tackle a range of concrete related jobs from demolition, grinding, stripping, drilling and cutting through to cleaning, requiring their ECODAILY delivery trucks to be fitted with both a chassis mounted crane and towbar for ease of hire equipment delivery.
Safety in letters The ECODAILY bristles with technology and has an alphabet soup of acronyms describing its electronic safety systems – some being standard and others optional. Its four-wheel disc brakes have ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), which prevents wheel-lock while braking. EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution) that distributes braking forces between front and rear axles. ASR (Anti-Slip Regulator) acts on the engine speed and braking system to prevent the wheels from slipping under stress. ESP (Electronic Stability Program) governs individual wheel brakes to reduce engine revolutions if the vehicle becomes unstable. HBA (Hydraulic Brake Assist) increases braking pressure when it senses emergency braking. Hill Holder (Assisted Uphill Departure), which acts on the brakes to hold the vehicle steady during uphill lift off. LAC (Load Adaptive Control) recognises the horizontal distribution of the load being transported.
14
Kennards’ 45C18 cab/chassis model has the optional AGile six-speed automated transmission which shifts automatically when driven in auto mode, or can be shifted manually by the short dash mounted gearlever and driven as a conventional manual transmission.
Power and performance The 45C18 has a 4495kg Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM), this means it can be driven on a standard car licence. It has a 7995kg Gross Combination Mass (GCM). This is important to Kennards as they often have a need to deliver some of their larger concrete care hire equipment this way. The three-litre four-cylinder diesel engine has direct injection with a variable geometry turbocharger (VGT) and intercooler. It complies with the latest stringent exhaust emissions Australian Design Rule – ADR80/03. It pumps out 130kW (176hp) @ 3200– 3500rpm and 400Nm (295lb/ft) of torque on a broad rev range from 1250- to 3000rpm. The ECODAILY range offers eight cab/chassis models (including crew-cabs) with a wheelbase length and GVM choice – shorter for tipper-type operation or the longer option for use as a tray top or pantech body. There is also a full range of ECODAILY enclosed vans available to choose from in a variety of lengths and heights dependent on cubic and weight capacities – ranging from 8.3m³ to 17.2m³ or 2870kg to 4140kg payload.
Who is IVECO? IVECO Australia’s manufacturing base in Dandenong, Victoria was commissioned in 1952 under the International Harvester brand name and has produced more than 200,000 trucks and bus chassis. The Dandenong plant represents a major investment in the local truck and bus industry and employs more than 600 Australians. Overall, IVECO creates employment in Australia for thousands of people in related industries, from retailing operations to component suppliers.
“The ECODAILYs are almost twice as fuel-efficient as a Japanese sourced brand of trucks our company has used” For more information contact: Phone: 1800 4 IVECO Website: www.iveco.com.au

all-new bt-50 to raise the utility bar An all-new version of the versatile and tough Mazda BT-50 is due later this year.
Since its introduction in 2006 the Mazda BT-50 has become one of Australia’s most popular light commercial vehicles. With a choice of powerful common-rail diesel engines matched to 4x2 or 4x4 drivetrains and competitive towing and loading ability it has become the perfect companion for both tradespersons and professionals alike. Mazda realises that every utility buyer has different needs. For some, a larger tray with an increased carrying capacity is what’s important while for others the ability to carry additional passengers is more important. Whichever camp you fall into, the Mazda BT-50 offers a body style solution to fit offering Single Cab, Freestyle Cab and Dual Cab variants. With the introduction of the All-New BT-50 later this year, Mazda is set to shake up the utility segment and offer a light commercial the likes of which has never been seen before. Not only will the All-New Mazda BT-50 take performance to new heights but a completely new exterior and interior design will provide a look that sets it apart from other utilities. Details of the powertrain line-up for the All-New BT-50 demonstrate that it will be one of the most powerful utilities ever to hit Australian showrooms. Two new advanced diesel engines, both offering significant increases in power and torque with improved fuel efficiency, will ensure the All-New Mazda BT-50 has the grunt to handle even the toughest tasks.
20
The headline act for the All-New BT-50 range is the new MZ-CD 3.2 litre diesel engine, in-line 5-cylinder configuration, delivering a massive 470Nm of torque and 147kW of power. This represents a 24 per cent increase in torque while power is up by 28 per cent over the current BT-50’s 3.0 litre diesel engine. The adoption of a new high-pressure fuel system combined with advanced turbocharging ensures the 3.2 litre diesel engine delivers a more refined and responsive drive. These refinements also help to ensure that the new MZ-CD 3.2 litre diesel will be more fuel efficient than the 3.0 litre diesel engine it replaces. The new 3.2 litre engine will be mated to a choice of new six-speed transmissions, in either manual or automatic guise. Both new transmissions have been developed to exhibit low levels of noise, vibration and harshness making for a smoother and quieter ride. Also joining the All-New BT-50 line-up is a new MZ-CD 2.2 litre diesel engine which has been designed to further improve efficiency while delivering an impressive 375 Nm of torque and 110 kW of power. When compared with the current BT-50’s 2.5 litre diesel engine, this represents a 14 per cent increase in torque and a 5 per cent increase in power. Fuel economy is also improved. Both new powertrains have been developed to ensure the All-New BT-50 delivers towing capacities never before seen on this type of vehicle. The 3.2 litre engine with either manual or automatic transmission will be capable of towing up to a huge 3,350kg, delivering a 350kg increase over the current model. The 2.2 litre engine offers a highly competitive 2,500kg maximum towing capacity, an increase of 250kg over the current 2.5 litre model. The exterior design features crisp lines and an imposing presence that indicates reliability. The athletic and individual design gives the All-New BT-50 an overwhelming presence that will turn heads and make it instantly recognisable. The cockpit is designed to wrap around the driver and provide an environment that supports enthusiastic driving while raising the expectations of a sporty and responsive driving experience that goes beyond any conventional utility. Smooth flowing lines throughout the cabin provide a look never before seen on a utility while the dashboard has been designed to create optimal space for driver and passengers alike. An enhanced instrument panel offers improved readability of the meters while all controls and switches have been developed to be both comfortable and intuitive to use.

stunning gas log fireplaces from escea Definitely the only fireplace you should be installing.
Escea is a relatively young gas fireplace manufacturer but that hasn’t stopped them from becoming a major player in the world market in a very short time. The guiding philosophy of the company is that the home fireplace should not only be efficient and easy to use, it should be a thing of beauty. Nigel Bamford, CEO, of Escea refers to his company’s products as being “Furniture with Flames”. The Indoor “IB” series fires come in two widths the IB850 is 1060mm wide across the fascia while the IB1100 is 1360mm across the fascia. Both models burn 40 Mj per hour and come with an electronic remote control that includes a timer and a thermostat. These fireplaces are ideal to have a flat screen TV mounted above them giving you many options when planning the layout of a room. In addition to the standard beveled fascia there are now the options of “squared” and “insert” designer series fronts. The squared front sits out from the wall giving the appearance of a floating fireplace while the clean edges and sharp lines provide a strong and graphic design feature to be the focus of the room.
The inset front sits inside the fire surround and provides a completely flush, minimalist profile. This allows you to exercise your creativity to create a focus point in the room by selecting exotic wall materials such as Italian marble. The Outdoor Fireplace at 1280mm wide and the option of polished stainless steel or powder coated satin black front forms a magnificent focal point to any outdoor entertaining area and provides 52Mj of heating directed to your outdoor area. Just great for outdoor entertaining that goes on into the evening. Whether inside or outside, the perfect focal point is an Escea gas fire.

Floor heating – a smart alternative Sustainability is all about reducing waste – floor heating offers a way to maintain our comfort levels using only the energy we need. Design and energy control are the keys. Environmental responsibility and sustainable practices are things we all want to support, but most of us do not want to surrender our lifestyles to implement them. With underfloor heating you can be energy efficient in winter without affecting your comfort. Comfort Heat Australia has been working in the underfloor heating industry for the past 11 years and is an expert in designing both electric and hydronic systems which provide the comfort we expect and manage the energy we need to use. Implementing the best innovations from overseas and utilising our home grown engineering expertise, projects are individually designed to minimise energy use while meeting customer expectations. From the smallest installations to large commercial projects, Comfort Heat has access to quality trouble free products which are at the forefront of heating innovation, and the expertise to design energy efficient and cost effective heating systems. While electric floor heating has a role to play in energy efficiency, hydronic floor heating is the way of the future. Utilising energy sources other than electricity and providing integration with domestic hot water or pool heating, hydronic heating systems can support a total building services design. As every
project is different, it is essential the right design is used for the right project. This ensures a trouble free operation on completion of the project. All systems installed are guaranteed for materials and workmanship and Comfort Heat provides support for their efficient operation. saniflo = infinite possibilities Saniflo’s range of grey wastewater and macerating pumps let you transform redundant spaces with the installation of new wet facilities - anywhere you choose!
Choose to renovate or retrofit an existing building or space and you can guarantee it will be neither simple or straightforward. Multi-tenanted or high-rise building spaces will mean further considerations and complications need to be addressed as well. The owner of this Melbourne apartment wanted an additional toilet/powder room created from the old existing laundry as part of a proposed renovation. Sounds easy enough but a number of factors needed to be overcome first. Primarily, how to remove waste without disturbing the concrete slab floor and walls to get to the main sewer line. The existing waste pipe work was just half the diameter of what is required for a standard toilet and was located over a metre away from where the client wanted their new toilet located. Given the space was already compact, a slimline sewage macerator pump by Saniflo was recommended as the best solution. With no need to drill through concrete walls and floors, Saniflo’s technology enabled delivery of a more economic and stress-free renovation - completed in less time and at less cost. At only 131 mm wide, a Sanislim model was installed and fitted discreetly in the wall cavity behind an access panel that was tiled to match in with the surrounding walls, ensuring total design integrity. The Sanislim is powerful enough to pump waste up to four metres vertically or forty meters horizontally and has the capacity to handle up to three inlets (toilet, bidet, vanity basin or shower). Wastewater is removed via 20mm uPVC waste pipes concealed inside wall spaces and ceiling voids. The toilet chosen by the client is a back to wall model which involved a bit more work for the plumbers to install. A matching vanity basin was also installed and connects to the waste pipes via a PVC junction.
34
Like most high-rise apartments and multiple tenanted buildings, the body corporate imposes noise restrictions on devices such as pumps, fitting the Sanislim unit behind a false wall was part of the strategy for sound absorption. While the Sanislim’s noise level rating is well below the decibel limit set by the body corporate, the owner wanted to ensure that there was no negative impact to her neighbours, so rockwool insulation was installed inside the false wall and around the pipes. The result is an attractive and effective sanitary system that is virtually silent. Saniflo’s range of grey wastewater and macerating pumps are perfect for transforming redundant spaces with the installation of new wet facilities - anywhere you choose. Domestic and commercial applications include ensuite shower rooms, granny flats, attic or garage conversions, laundries, office kitchenettes, staff facilities, cafés or coffee stations - anywhere a multiple waste outlet is required. All pumps are backed by a two-year warranty and with a team of experienced service agents Australia wide, Saniflo offers a choice of models that will suit a range of domestic and commercial installations. All Saniflo macerator and grey water pumps comply with Australian Standards and are easily installed remote from or even below an existing sewer line. With more than fifty years experience, Saniflo has positioned itself as the market leader in macerating and grey wastewater pumps with almost seven million units sold worldwide.

Cut dewalt deep A tradie must-have, DEWALT’s powerful 305mm Compound Slide Mitre Saw (DW718XE) has the heavy duty feel wrapped up in a compact and lightweight design. Packing all the grunt expected from DEWALT tools, this innovative mitre saw effortlessly produces a clean cut from the finer odd jobs to the tougher applications onsite.
Lugging a mitre saw around the worksite is not an enjoyable task for any tradie. The design characteristics of this mitre saw make it easily portable around the jobsite without taking away any of its enormous cutting capacity. The 305mm blade cuts through material at 3400rpm, powered by a 1600watt belt driven motor. Its cam action mitre lock function enables for faster mitre setting, with quick adjustment of angles between 0-60 degrees left and 0-50 degrees right. The dual sliding fence provides maximum support in large material cuts at any angle, the linear horizontal rails providing optimal precision. The new quick release bevel setting provides great simplicity when setting bevel angles up to 48 degrees both left and right. Versatility is key with a massive 163mm depth of cut, facilitating the capacity to cut skirting boards or mouldings the DW718’s innovative grooving stop.
DEWALT 18V essentials Tools durable enough to outlive a day-to-day thrashing on the worksite can be hard to come by. DEWALT’s range of power tools provide a less laborious alternative, yet are still guaranteed tough! Selecting the right type of tool for a job is key to maintaining an efficient and productive worksite. Daniel Lawlor, marketing manager for DeWalt, says that power drills and drivers have a range of applications, but it’s important to be aware of factors such as size, weight, voltage and durability when choosing the tools of your trade. “DEWALT’s 18V range is designed for heavy duty construction jobs. They’re durable, designed to last from job to job, helping to keep your costs down. “All our tools are developed with ease of use and safety in mind, helping you get the job done, and done right,” Mr Lawlor said. The frameless high speed motor and all metal gearing of DEWALT’s 18V Lithium Ion Compact Impact Driver (DC827KL), provides effective power transmission, loosening and tightening nuts and bolts around the site with maximum efficiency. Tricky tight spots areas are now more easily accessible thanks to this driver’s compact body and built in LED work light for increased visibility. Greater control is now provided when setting and removing fasteners with the improved variable speed switch
36
and electronic motor brake. With a 6.35mm keyless hex-drive, bit change is quick and easy, and user fatigue is buffered by the rubber coated grip to reduce surface vibration when in use. Delivering a powerful hammer blow, the 18V Rotary Hammer (DC213N-XE) will get jobs such as drilling anchors and fixing holes into concrete, brick and masonry finished in no time. It offers three mode functions including drilling, hammer drilling and chiselling with stop rotation mode. The rear mounted battery ensures excellent balance, while the active vibration control reduces vibration without any reduction in performance. This drill is ideal for drilling anchors and fixing holes into concrete, brick and masonry, this hammer’s efficient and compact gearbox offers a longer runtime without compromising power. onsite water storage made easy Councils and state governments are requiring residential and commercial buildings to have water storage tanks installed. Selecting the right product for the application is essential.
Water storage tanks are now required to be installed by local councils with the construction of new dwellings and commercial buildings and for the renovation of existing buildings. The plumbing and building industry are installing most of these tanks and there is a need to ensure the right tank is installed for the right application. This requirement for tanks is driven by government authorities requiring the storage of water that falls on site. This water storage maybe permanent or temporally so storm water runoff is released slowly into the system.
Tank accessories Once the storage tank is selected then there will be a need to ensure the correct accessories are included. E.G. There may be a need for leaf diverters and first flush units or the client may want a pump included. Pump selection depends on the application and many residential clients will require an automatic change over device such as the Bianco Rainsaver. The tank, pump and accessories can be supplied as a package to make the installation of the system simpler and faster.
Bushman tanks Tank selection When selecting a tank there is a need to consider the roof area and hard surfaces including paths and driveways, the estimation of annual rainfall and the intensity of rain during storm periods. These factors will determine the size, location and type of tank required. E.G. Many older buildings may require multiple tanks as storm water exits the site from numerous locations. In areas where there are few but more intense rain periods there will be a requirement for larger storage capacity. Bushmans can help you through this process to ensure the right product is selected.
Bushman tanks have been manufacturing tanks since 1989 and have the experience and expertise to ensure the tank is the highest quality and we have the logistical experience to ensure it arrives on site on time and in good condition.
