A Message from the Premier

Since announcing a bold reform agenda 12 months ago, I am very pleased that a great deal of progress has been made in the field of planning in South Australia. The Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act was assented to on 21 April this year, and work is now underway on the implementation phase for this important change to how we do things in this State. The innovative new system includes an online planning portal, which enables electronic lodgement, assessment and tracking of development applications. Developers are engaging with the system like never before, and this is helping to unlock the enormous development potential that our State needs and our people deserve. The new system will also have a simplified and consistent set of planning rules set out in the Planning and Design Code, which will replace all existing council Development Plans. The State Government engaged with stakeholders as we were working through options for reform, and the sectorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s desire for simplicity came through loud and clear. I am confident the new rules will pave the way for greater understanding of our planning regime. I also hope that, in a more general way, the reforms will help foster the kind of innovation and excellence in construction that is featured in this publication. Changes have also been made to the National Construction Code to enable certain Class 6 buildings in South Australia to be reactivated for use, as small arts venues, without having to be reclassified.

A number of initiatives and innovative construction practices were implemented by the builder that enabled wet weather delays to be minimised and cost savings to be made. Excellence in a Commercial/Industrial Building over $100M – Landmark Project

HANSEN YUNCKEN PTY LTD Project Lyell McEwen Hospital Redevelopment Stage C, Elizabeth Vale There aren’t too many challenges greater than what this redevelopment placed on Hansen Yuncken. It was multi staged in an operating hospital and it was to a tight budget with real time constraints. Whilst there was a significant component of new work, there was also a great deal of refurbishment. This was messy work requiring optimal implementation of all of Hansen Yuncken’s safety and quality assurance procedures. The work was undertaken over some 80 individual stages and Hansen Yuncken scored very highly in all assessment criteria. They achieved a high standard of finishes, significant positive innovative contributions to the end result and excellent value for money all to the delight of a very satisfied client.

Excellence in a Commercial Fit-Out

MOSSOP CONSTRUCTION+INTERIORS Project Hilton Hotel Ground Floor Refurbishment, Adelaide The challenge of this project was to completely gut the ground floor of an operating hotel with minimal disruption to staff and patrons. Major work was undertaken in the lobby, lounge, restaurant, bar, kitchen and foyer utilising complex finishes with very fine tolerances, and all within a base structure that lacked dimensional consistency. The long-term relationship between builder and client has resulted in a high level of trust that brings with it high expectations for effective delivery and quality. BIANCO PRECAST Project Ergo Apartments Stage 2, Adelaide This project was based upon a site visit to gain an understanding of the â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Bubbledeck Flooring Systemâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;. The concept uses recycled plastic bubbles as void formers to eliminate up to 35% of slab self- weight, permitting longer spans between columns. Although not a new concept, this is the first completed project in South Australia using Bubbledeck flooring and the many advantages including improved productivity and reduced energy consumption convinced the judges that this innovative building solution deserves an award for excellence in this category.
