Property Council of Australia Queensland Retail Property of the Year Awards 2014
WELCOME MESSAGE The Queensland Retail Property of the Year Awards recognise and publicly reward exceptional retail properties and precincts, based on the response to Design, Marketing, Presentation and Food retailing initiatives for the year ending 30 June 2014. Retail properties and precincts from across the state have competed for the chance to receive one of the industry’s highest honours – being named Queensland’s Retail Property of the Year. The awards balance the built aspects of a property or precinct - which provide amenity and convenience for customers and retailers - along with the effort and initiatives of the property managers, marketing managers and operations managers. This year the Property Council has launched a new award for Excellence in Food Retailing. This award acknowledges food retail properties and precincts that have demonstrated outstanding design, innovation, material selection and social interface. We are pleased to announce that the Property Council had over 68 finalists in this year’s Awards Program – one of the highest number of entries in its 15 year history. We would like to thank all our sponsors for their tremendous support. • Principal Sponsor – The Buchan Group; • Silver Sponsor – Shopping Centre Council of Australia; • Bronze Sponsors – Gough Recruitment, Savills Project Management and WT Partnership We would also like to sincerely thank the 2014 judges for their time and effort put into this year’s program: • Chairperson, David Hedemann, Cousins Hedemann Property • Tracey Blackbourn, Retail First • Lyn Flannery, Lyn Flannery & Associates • Tracey Ford, LaSalle Investment Management • Mark Greer, Ray White Retail • Tony Houston, Thomson Adsett Architects • Murray Scanlan, Savills • Bev Strickland, Strictly Marketing • Peter Zillman, The Buchan Group Thank you for your ongoing commitment. A previous two time Retail Property Award of the Year recipient, Robina Town Centre continues to achieve very high standards across all categories. 2014 has seen a very high standard of entry, and the runner up position was fiercely contested by a number of centres. However, it was Robina Town Centre’s attention to detail and understanding of their customers that kept them ahead of the competition. Congratulations to the entire staff that function as an integrated team to keep the centre at such a high level of excellence year after year.

Stockland Gladstone
Judges’ Comments
This modest and strategic addition has created a more vibrant and dynamic atmosphere for the centre. The design incorporates vernacular architecture which in its structure embraces the industrial context of Gladstone and a material selection that creates a sense of warmth and relaxation. This optimal design solution creates a vibrant street activation and reinforces the existing mall entry. It also satisfies the centre’s demand for an alfresco dining precinct and encourages a longer stay for shoppers in a pleasant, social environment.

WINNER Excellence in Marketing - Sub Regional Centres between 10,000 and 30,000 square metres
Wintergarden for ‘Is Winning in Your DNA?’
Judges’ Comments
A well executed and conceived campaign with very strong visual cut through marketing material for a CBD location. The campaign was a unique spin on a prize pool of $50,000 of retailer vouchers all being reinvested into the property. This campaign was fun and memorable for customers and created a lot of positive word of mouth and a great deal of ‘buzz’ over the retail prizes.

Property Council of Australia Queensland Retail Property of the Year Awards 2014
WINNER Excellence in Marketing - Regional Centres between 30,000 and 50,000 square metres
Queens Plaza for ‘QP Delish’
Judges’ Comments
The QP Delish campaign was an innovative and cutting edge food promotion being conducted in the highly competitive CBD market. A stylish, first to market digital app provided customers with exclusive food offers in the palm of their hand as well as rewarding frequent users and tracked customer redemption at the point of sale. The campaign embraced new technology, was well conceived and achieved excellent results well above expectations. The campaign was executed with minimal advertising spend and relied on in-centre marketing materials and digital channels to convey the message. QP Delish campaign was challenging on various levels, as it had to sell the benefits of adding new digital technology to retailers and change the way customers engaged with Queens Plaza.
