paper sculpturing

in class we were told to take our exam paper which were given and then to make something out of it, changing the form in what it originally came in. With this I took to exam paper and decided to start ripping at it, I then started to bend and change certain aspects of the tears, to make it curl up, I then took photos of different areas of the sculpture.

Once taking the photos I then edited them on adobe bridge, I used clarity effect and darkened the exposure to change and make there to be more focus on the tears and curls in the paper, I did this to show my techniques and skills of using something and changing how it looks, but mostly focusing on the angles and lighting when taking the photos, when taking them I used lighting to show the detail in the photos, and I used angles to show different aspects of the sculpture.

These are some more photos from me making my sculpture, these are my favourite photos from taking a few photos, these photos are my favourite as the angles they are taken at show the detail into the curls and rips of the paper. When editing these photos I used adobe bridge, I lowered the exposure and increased the clarity to show the detail in the paper. I could possibly use these techniques into my final piece, I could use this to help create detail into the photos I have taken, I like how the paper looks like its alive and moving, maybe if I used this idea in my photos I could make my photos look like they are coming alive.

This photographer uses image manipulation, he doesn’t always use digital editing though, he w two pictures he has used a fish bowl with water in, and put the models head inside it, he has the tail on the face, it changes the way we would usually look at the photo. In the photo at the top t its representing the idea of how in pictures it looks perfect but behind that picture its not necess change the way we would normally look at a photo, instead of digitally editing the photo.

Flora has used the glass and painted over it, he has used paint of the glass to disguise the girls face, th trapped in the photo, like the glass is blocking her. ALANA DEE-HAYNES

This artist is called Alana dee- Haynes, she will take photos of a model and position them in a certain way, she will then edit and draw over the photo to change the image, each image has created a story to the image. I like how he has used doodling over the image to create a strange look onto the photo. My favourite one of her photos are the ones where she has taken a close- up on her models and then used doodles to change the way we look at the image. With these photos when I look at them I feel like the photographer is trying to tell us more about the character that is in the photo, I think the drawings over the photo is trying to tell us something, maybe a story? Or more about the character. If there was just that photo displayed without the drawings, it would be a normal fashion photo, but with the drawings I think it sets the mood and atmosphere of the photo, it can create the photo to be quite sinister, but some drawings create a more happier feel to the photo. This photographer has used space in the photo, he has taken and used that space to create more to the photo, he has used the space to draw in and change the image which I really like with this photographer. His ideas have definitely influenced my ideas following my photography.

TECHNICAL LITERAL

i see a girl sat on the floor with a cover over her face, the cover is not actually there he has drawn a cover over her. I dont see the models face.

SYMBOLIC

I think the content represents a story of the character, maybe the character in the photo wants to be hidden.

he took the photo of the model and then digitally edited the patterned cover over the models face.

CULTURAL

i think the photo was made quite recent, it links to me because blue is my favourite collour.

LITERAL

In this photo i see a model positioned on a chair looking directly at the camera there are drawings over the photo around the model.

SYMBOLIC

i think the drawings on the photo mean something, they might be drawn to represent a story or something relating to the model perosonally, the photographer may have done this to allow the viewer to get to know

TECHNICAL

I think this photo was taken by a digital camera and then digitally edited the drawings over around the model in the photo.

CULTURAL

WHEN WAS THE PHOTO MADE AND HOW DOES IT LINK TO YOU IN 21ST CENTURY? I think this photo was made recently as the photo quality is a good standard but i think the clothing and objects used in the photo represent a photo that could have been taken a long time ago.

JERRY UESMANN This photographer created his photos a long time ago, his first photos was late 1950’s. He created these photos when things like camera raw, Photoshop and digital photos were not available. He has created this images from taking seven expose a single print, he then would develop these photos in the darkroom, having the skills he had in the dark room allowed him to combined the realism of the photo with something fantasy like a dream, something that wouldn’t be real in the real world. I personally really like most of his work as it reminds me a lot of Fran Foreman work where she used the idea of escaping into a dream, he has used objects that are usually not there in the photo and have included this object in the photo making it different, it adds a meaning, a story to the photo.

‘principle of adventure’

This photo makes me feel claustrophobic I feel like I need to hold my breath like I’m under water, I feel surrounded like I’m trapped under water. In my photos I desire to create the viewer to have a feeling when they look at my photos. I like how they have used the idea of feeling trapped and chosen the environment of under water, instead of the obvious feel of being trapped. In a way I am astonished as in the photograph its quite unusual, I don’t usually see photographs of models under water, its different to other portrait photos you usually see. I do admire to dispute the photographers abilities into making this photo, from them to think of this idea and to set up to create this photo would of been a challenge, they have used this photo to create the viewer to feel something and I do admire to do this when people look at my photographs. When I look at this photo I don’t straight away see an adventure but if I look more into this photo the meaning could refer to the adventure of there life, maybe this person feels safe under water away from everything, or maybe there feeling trapped under the water which is an adventure. I would of added colour to the photo and maybe put something into the water which could of added glitter or paint to the water to make the water more obvious and bright in the photo.

I think if you first looked at th to more and create a story o accidental they could of ask thread on the feet is delibera almost like the thread is com and have placed into my ma final piece.

In this photo I see a model lifting up her foot, but her foot has stitching directing to her body. When I look at this photo I feel confused, because I don’t get why they have used the foot as a main focus and taking the photo of her in that position in the photo. I notice that they have used different coloured thread in the photo and chosen to connect the foot with the body through thread. From looking at this photo I have observed that they might have done this to show the connection from the toes of the foot to the body. I like this photo because I like how they have taken the photo of the model in a strange position, because it looks better than just having the model sat down, it creates the eyes to wonder and question the photo more. Its just a plain bed and looks like her bed so maybe avoid the location as its a private place for her. If I look away I remember from the photo the models feet and the bright coloured stitching coming from the feet.

he photo it will confuse you, I think the second glance you will understand the phoof your own based on that picture. I think the photo that is taken could have been ked her to move around, and they were taking shots of her moving around, I think the ate as its a statement of there work. In this photo I see the detail of her thread, its ming out on the picture. From my experience of life and culture I do like this photo agazine to represent the work I would like to look at when thinking on ideas for my

Nik Ned has taken photos of things like people and buildings and in some way changed the actual appearance of the photo he has either drawn on them or digitally edited the drawing onto the photos, also most pictures he has taken have been in the darkness and hard to focus on which I like and want to try out, most of the photos he has used have been in black and white I want to experiment with black and white with my own photos.

nik ned Tonal zones

This is the zone system, this is a photographic technique for de-terming optimal film exposure and development formulated by Ansel Adams and Fred Archer

High key photographs

- A style of lighting that is bright, even, and produces little contrast between light and dark areas of the scene. A high key photograph has chiefly light tones, usually with little tonal contrast.

Low key photographs

- of reduced intensity; restrained; understated. A low key photograph has hiefly dark tones, usually with little tonal contrast.

Full contrast

- where there is difference between the light and dark tones across all the zones. Lighting artificial From looking at the photograph I have noticed this photo is full contrast this is because in the photo there are difference between the light and dark tones in the photo, there are areas of really light and really dark.

flora borsi

These photos were created by Flora Borsi she has used objects like glass to alter the appearance of each of the photos. Flora uses lighting to create a focus onto the model in the photo, and using high lighting means there is a shine reflecting on the glass of the object they are using. When doing my photos I want to include this kind of idea of using an object into my photos, or maybe taking the photo and drawing onto of it, using the drawing instead of an object to alter the image that was originally taken. I like how she has used the drawing over glass to alter the original image that was going to be taken, I really like this idea and want to take it further into my work. Using the colouring black and white has created more focus on what is actually happening in the photo, and focuses on lighter and darker areas of the photo which I like, I want to use this in my work, I find using black and white stops the eye from wondering to those bright colours, I want this to be the case in my photos.

my own ideas from photographers These are the photos I took to experiment with my ideas that have developed from looking at the many photographers I have researched on, one photographer I really liked was Flora Borsi I really liked how he would use triangles and shapes to change the image we originally look at. When looking at this work I could see that he would choose one person to focus on and choose certain shapes to alter and change the image slightly, I liked how he would create a different photo from using the same photo. He would use shapes to tell a story about the photo, when I look at his photos I associate the triangles with what is going on around the model, maybe the triangles show the danger around him, I have used sharp triangles coming off the models back to look like a guard protecting that character from the danger around him in the place he is at. I have then chosen tears coming off the models to express how the character is feeling in the photo, it shows emotion without actually seeing the models face. I then used the idea that I got from Flora Borsi and Alana dee-haynes photos using the triangles over the photo, I like how he has done this he has taken a normal photo and edited on a shape made up of triangles over, it adds more of an interest to that photo, that was my favourite photo that why I thought I would try re-create it With my own ideas and my own photo’s.

With these photos I wanted to mimic the human features on a face I used a CD cover of a model to represent that I’m replacing the normal face of the model with a picture its obstructing the image itself which Flora Borsi created in her work, my ideas developed from researching her work. The lighting I used for these sets of photos was overhead lighting it was directly shining onto the model which worked well because it created a shine and focus onto the objects which gives these objects good detail, this lighting then creates texture and detail to the model herself. The lighting has forced the black colours to be in the distance and has brought out the lighter greys into the focus of the photo. I have taken this photo from a lower angle this point of view creates emotion to the photo it makes the viewer viewing the photo feel small, as the image is from such a low angle, also from this photo I have noticed that the model fills the frame of the photo this creates the main focus pointing at the model which is using and filling the space in the photo. I chose to use black and white as its simple against the bright pink scribble over the models eyes, I think if there was colour to the photo with the bright pink onto it would distract the eyes to look at different places to the photo I want the main focus to be why the crossed out eyes. I got the model to turn her head in this time I took a number of shots of her turning her head so I can then choose the best one.

These photos are my favourite out of the photos I took for photographers interpretation, I wanted to include the idea of using the objects to alter the image, and when doing so came across the idea of actually using Photoshop to digitally edit the image changing the original photo being taken, I liked how Flora Borsi did this in her work with the drawing over the glass and having the glass over the models face, this idea of hers inspired me to do this with my photos I took in the shoot. I wanted to use a colour, bright colour so that the drawing would stand out in-front of the black and white, and the dark colours in the photo, I think this worked well because it brought this to more of the focus compared to the dark colour behind. When taking this photo I set up everything that is displayed in the photo, I wanted her to be positioned like that around the objects and then wanted her hand in the bowl, the reason I used the bowl of water is because it has change the way her hand it originally which is in the style of what Flora Borsi does in her work, the hand in the bowl has made her hand a different size to what it would normally look like, I like how it has done this its unusual, and different to other photos I have seen. In this photo the dark lighting has created there to be a darker look to the photo, there is no shining light to create focus its all the same amount of light covering the photo taken, I like how it has done this because the main focus in focused on the model, as she is lighter compared to the dark background. The distance in the photo is organised medium shot, I wanted it to be close so the viewer can see what is happening but to be able to, I would of needed to take it as a medium shot to be able to see the objects around the model as well. In this photo I wanted to include the objects around the model as well as the model because the object of the bowl is the main focus to the photo, as its representing the main idea I am going for in my photos. In this photo the space is used up with the objects and model I didn’t want to include much of the background because I feel as that is too distracting and will make the viewers look more onto what’s in the background rather than the actual photo, that why I used a dark backing so that there was less focus on the other things happening in the background, I wanted space to be used up in the frame of this picture so that the model will be the main focus.

These photos were taken in my interpretation shoot, the photographer I was interpretation was Flora Borsi I really liked her work and wanted to develop my ideas from looking at her photos, when looking at her photos I noticed how she had used objects to alter the image, developing from her ideas I wanted to experiment with lines and scribbles to alter and change the image taken. I really like these photos there probably my favourite because I like how the lighting has chosen to focus on the model, also using the black clothing and black background means there is less focus brought to the background and clothing and more on the facial expression being displayed by the model, I wanted to have the photo black and white so that the coloured lines or drawings onto would be the main focus to the photo, taking this photo further I would want to experiment with acetate and have the doodles moulded onto the other photo.

With this photo the lighting in the photo comes from a source of unnatural lighting, from a bulb. The direction in which the light is shining in is creating texture on the clothing she is wearing. Also this lighting creates a real softness on the models face, and becomes brighter which creates more focus on the models face, and to what she is doing. I find the texture on the bowl and the glitter in the bowl stands out, is creates a rough texture to the actual photo. As the photo is sharp this creates focus on the bowl and to the reason why she is doing what she is doing. When taking the photo I wanted the angle of view to be positioned at a lower angle this makes the photo look like she as the model is looking down onto the viewer looking at the photo. I wanted the bowl as the main focus, but wanted the model and the objects around her to be in the frame of the photo. I chose the colour black and white as the colours where to bright and would distract the eye to them rather than what’s Actually happening in the photo. The objects that stand out to me is the hand in the bowl, the texture of the glitter stands out and creates the photo to become rough. Also the lighting has created a texture on the woven wood table, I like how the colour black and white has brought out the white colours and darkened the darker colours in the photo. I find that the model an her hand in the bowl is in sharp focus, but also how the model is positioned brings the viewers eye to that focus, I like how she is brought out to focus from the black background. In this photo I chose to include the model and what she is doing, but I didn’t want to include much around the actual model, tried to keep it as minimal as possible, so that the more focus is on the model rather than what’s happening around her, I didn’t want the eyes of the viewer to focus on much of the objects that’s going on around her. If this photo were to be in colour I would find that the photo would be to bright in colour, as the actual colours where lots of blues, I think that would of distracted the eye of the viewer to these colour, where as if the colours are constant like black and white it creates the photo to be more sophisticated and there is more of a focus brought to the model and her hand in the bowl of water, where this is the main focus of the photo because its my idea’s coming from when I researched into Flora Borsi, how she would use objects to change and alter the original image, that she has taken.

In this photo the lighting source was created from a bulb shining on-top of wear the model was positioned, the light source was defused by the lamp shade this has softened the photo, and has created any sharp shadows to the photo, it has created a real soft effect to the photo which I like. With this photo I got the model to position herself like she is drinking the water in the jug, I wanted to use this idea so that I could digitally edit on top of the photo bubbles coming out the water, I think these shapes work well with like its imaginary air bubbles coming out of the drink. With the textures of the photo right away I notice the softness of the photo, there is no much texture to the photo, where as if I look at the photo for a long time I notice that the light has created a light shining to the face, this creates a even lighter colour to the back and white, this creates a softer texture to the face. For this picture I have used the black background to create a more of a focus on the model, using a black background means the background is less of an interest and wont catch the viewers eyes, doing this creates the main focus onto the model and what the model is doing in the photo. I find the mood of the photo not to be happy or sad, there’s no extreme feel to the photo, I think the viewer can have there own opinion on how the photo is feeling, and making them feel. The angle that I took this photo was taken at eye level, I thought this photo would look its best at this angle, as she isn’t directly looking at the photo but actually looking away, it works better if this shot is close up as its not so directly in your face, as she’s looking away but using a close up gives the viewer a chance to actually see close up everything which is happening. I like this photo because the digital edit expresses the idea I want to use in the theme of Image manipulation, leading on from this shoot it has helped with the development of my ideas and how I will use these kind of ideas leading to my final piece, I want to experiment more with these ideas taking them even further.

With these three photos I had the model sit down and to stay in the same position for me to then take a series of photos from different levels and angles, to experiment with wha angles look best with this photo. The idea behind these photos was to use the record CD to actually manipulate the human eye, its like a mimic of the eye, I wanted to experiment with using different ideas instead of just using Photoshop to edit onto of the faces of the models I thought to use objects this idea came from looking through Flora Borsi’s work, I saw how she would use image manipulation with her work, but instead of using the typica editing she would use objects which I liked. When I came across the CD I noticed that it looked similar to the eye, which is why I used this object as an eye in my photos, I do like how these photos came out.

When editing these photos I wanted to keep the theme of black and white as I find I prefer how it looks, when looking at them, they are visually better to look at than a coloured photo. I find that when looking at a photo coloured your eyes are distracted by the bright colours and they different colours in the photo , my photos are being created so that there is a specific bit to the photo I want to be in focus. Using dark colours and bright objects creates there to be a darker background to the photo but there is a lighter area in the photo, the face and the object over the face, this is where I want there to be an area of focus in the photo, I want the viewer to straight away look at the face of the model and to noticed the flower obstructing the original image, taking my idea further I then went to edit around the model with white lines, I wanted to experiment with using lines in my work, to add more to the original photo, I like how they have turned out because I added lines to change even further the original image.

With these photos the thought behind these were to use the flower to interpret-ate the human eye, my photographer I am mainly focusing on is Flora Borsi and she uses objects to alter the original image she takes, I liked how she would do this with the pictures she takes, I then used this idea with my interpretation shoot, using her idea of objects to change the way we would originally look at the photo. I came across a flower and came up with the idea of using the flower to obstruct the eye of the model I was taking photos off. I wanted to digitally edit over some of these photos to express further my ideas of image manipulation with this idea I then edited some of my photos on Photoshop, editing shapes into the photo to alter the image even further, I liked how these turned out because it shows the further development into my ideas

evaluation From looking at my photographer and researching about this photographer, I have looked into how the photographer has taken her photos and to how she has used objects and drawings to alter and obstruct the original image she has taken, this stood out to me for an idea I could take further when taking my own photos. I was then told to take a shoot of photos that would interpret-ate the photographer we have chosen, using the idea of objects and drawings obstructing the image I was taking, I then took a series of photos of my model using different objects to obstruct the original photo, I used objects like record CD’S, flowers to mimic the view of an eye in the photo, and also to obstruct the picture which is an idea that developed from looking through Flora’s work. I also used the idea of water inside a bowl so that when the model put her hand in the water, it makes the hand bigger looking at it from outside the bowl, I wanted to alter a feature on the model using this bowl of water created her hand to be altered that is the idea behind these photos I took of the model with her hand in the bowl. These photos went well in showing my development of ideas when looking and researching through Flora’s work. In this shoot I used many techniques including experimenting with different angles and camera shots using a vary of different angles when taking the photo gave me a range of different photos to work with when editing them further, also using a range of different camera shots also gave me different photos to then edit onto off. The close ups show more of the emotion to how the character is feeling, and shows more detail into the obstruction of the photo. Using medium shots has helped me get some shots that are close up but also got what’s actually going on in the photo, I used this camera shots when taking the photos of the hand in the bowl, to show fully the difference in the photo. When doing the shoot I explored colours I did a shoot for each different colour, I chose a blue background, had the model in blue clothes and a blue object I wanted these colours to symbolise the idea of each object turning the whole set one colour so the focus in on that colour and that object, whilst doing this I found that when coming to edit the photos using bright colours and then editing them was difficult because it was hard to actually see the edited shapes on-top of these colours I found it looked messy, so when editing I decided to keep the theme of black and white so that the digital edit on-top looks better, so an idea I explored I then dropped when coming to editing the photo. I find this shoot did explore all my ideas well on what topic I’m looking at, and fully represented the ideas I developed from researching Flora Borsi work. This work did explore the ideas behind Flora Borsi’s work but taking my ideas further I would like to focus on the idea of obstructing the models face or a feature of the model, I will take this idea further buy taking a series of photos of another model, and focusing more on the digital side of editing, maybe instead of using shapes and lines to obstruct the image I can use drawings to mimic features of the model. This work links well with the work I have been looking at as the research told me more about how the photographer would use specific objects and drawings to put over the model, and to make the photo more interesting. To interoperate the work I have used the idea that Flora did in her work, she used a water bowl and a model in the water to change the normal format of the models face, I used this idea with using the hand of the model to be changed, the format of the models hand was altered in the photo. I also used the idea of having objects obstruct the view of the models face, I used CD player to obstruct the view of the model. When choosing image manipulation I first thought it would be digitally editing more, but looking at the photographers and taking my own photos has developed the original idea I had in mind of image manipulation and widening my thoughts on the topic more, this will help me with my development of my ideas.

This shoot is based on the ideas I then got after my interpretation shoot, from this shoot I wanted to explore further the idea of objects obstructing the original photo being taken. With this shoot I will be focusing more on digital edit as I found it changes the image more and stands out more compared to just using an object to cover the image. I set this shoot at a skate-park because I liked the patterns in the background, and liked how the background was exciting but works well with the still image. These photos I have put in colour as I wanted to experiment with colours as well as just black and white, I find this photos are interesting but I could not digitally edit on them a lot as the bright colours will distract the eye to the colours rather than the focus of the shapes I am editing on, the idea behind the shapes edited ontop of the photo is that this will manipulate the image, and change the way the photo originally is taken. Flora Borsi used shapes and drawings to change and make the photo more interesting, instead of having the model just looking up the idea which was de

-veloped by Flora Borsi’s work, was that the bubbles would look like they are coming out the models mouth, this idea is to add more of an interesting style to the work, rather than just having an average picture I wanted to use the editing to change and make the photos more fun and interesting to look at. What I would do to these photos to make them more developed would be more editing maybe using the jacket or her hair and adding patterns into the photo, using patterns onto certain features of the work, using her hair and editing on-top of would look really interesting because it would look like her hair is flying more, it would add in more detail into her hair which would look really good.

manual edits

assignment 4 photos

These photos are from my assignment 4 shoot, where I took a number of photos of my model in a skate-park the idea behind this shoot is for there to be a number of photos ranging in different angles and shots so that I can digitally edit with, when doing this I wanted to experiment with the idea of editing manually instead of just editing digitally, I wanted to try different ideas to further develop the idea I originally had. With the first photo I decided to manually edit onto the models hair, it was blowing in the wind and I wanted to exaggerate this feature of the model but outlining areas which were moving and outline the different strands of her hair, I like how this has turned out, I want to ideally go for this kind of idea and want to lead off this idea, maybe following on from this I could digitally edit onto the image and then print onto acetate which could then be put over the image, the acetate can actually be the obstruction over the photo, my next shoot I will complete some Re-shoots off these photos and experiment with the idea of estate. With the next photo I liked how the model was positioned so wanted to exaggerate this with an edit, using drawing to then exaggerate this made this more clear to the viewer when looking at the photo. What I want to ideally go for is to have a pattern running over the face so the face is then obstructed and changed in a way, almost like her identity is altered with, I like how Flora Borsi would do this and wanted to lead on from her work, buy using this kind of style of work into mine.

assignment 4 With these photos I took I digitally edited over them by chang-

ing the background to black I wanted there to be a difference in the background, I have edited so much on the face and around the model, but I wanted to experiment with editing the background itself, something different to the model, I like how these have turned out, the black background both works with around the model and the theme of black and white I have chosen on the photo. With the photos I took of the model sat on-top the skate-park I wanted to take some photos to experiment with angles with her in the same position, this helps me work with different angles which gives me more of an idea on what angles and camera shots I should be focusing on when developing my photos further and taking Re-shoots. When taking my Re-shoots I think I want to focus on taking the photos in the same kind of location like a skate-park I think this went well in this shoot, and represents well the age of the models I will be using.

evaluation For this shoot I was told to take a number of photos representing and leading on from my interpretation shoot, using the ideas I got from researching on my photographer but also using the ideas I have myself to then create a series of photos expressing your new ideas. When I was told do this I had some idea on what I was doing, I knew that I was going to use more of a digital way of editing over the photos, having this in mind I knew how to position the model and knew what I would edit on-top of each photo, planning this helped me when coming to editing my photos. My theme I have chosen is image manipulation having this in mind I then took a number of photos which I could then develop and edit on-top of for my final outcome for the photo. I like the photos I came out with, as I took a number of shots and varied in different camera angles this gave me just the right amount tough pictures to edit with and to develop with, having the photos in-front of me also inspired my ideas and inspired on what I was actually going to edit on-top of the photos. With my photos I used a number of low. Medium and high angle shots to experiment with what shots would look best, I found taking them from the ground level the model was at looked best, it added more depth to the photo and added emotion to the photo. I also experimented on a number of different camera shots many close ups and far away shots, I found that the photos taken from a far away were more successful into how I could edit them. With these photos I explored the idea of using objects in the skate-park to obstruct the view of the model, this photo worked well but most of them didn’t turn out to well, I then dropped this idea as it didn’t work well, what went well was the location I set the shoot at it was an initial idea I was thinking about and when going there I was testing out whether I liked the location, I thought this location represented the model and the age of the model well, it contrasted well. I find my work has successfully shown how my ideas have developed from using objects to also using Photoshop to alter the image that was taken. I wanted to explore further what else I could do with the photos to explored on editing photos manually as well, I did like how these photos did turn out as there was more detail into the photo, but to develop this idea further I’m going to edit and draw on the photo using Photoshop. When exploring this work I experimented with a lot of different types of ways I could edit and alter the image, using different shapes and drawings to show the manipulation in the image, but I think this is a basic way of editing my image I want to take this further by editing more into the photo, I found with these photos there wasn’t a real focus onto the editing I want more of a focus on what’s different in the photos. For my next shoot I am going to use a boy instead and when it comes to editing I will experiment more with the different way I could edit the pictures, changing the colours in the picture, and making more of an edit so it stands out more. My work links well with the photographers work because I’m including the idea with how she had used objects and drawings to alter the image and change it, but I have been using digital edit more into this shoot to interpretate this idea into my work. From the work I have been looking at I have looked how she has produced the work and seen how she has presented her idea of photography and work through her work. When taking my photos I also wanted to express my idea of photography and art through my photos, having this in mind I took a number of photos which I think I can work with and take further with editing in the drawings I wanted to. When looking at the topic, and saw what my photographer had chosen to do with her work, I saw that she used objects that is what I focused on when completing my first shoot where when I focused more on the idea of objects where as through this shoot I learnt that you can digitally edit in and with this shoot I would experiment more with shapes and drawings rather than using objects.

These photos were taken to experiment with the different angles and camera shots I could use. These photos were my favourite from the shoot because the close-ups I was experimenting with turned out to have a lot of potential when it came to editing, I wanted to focus on the face of the model when editing these pictures, as it was a close up and the face is put into the main focus. These are my favourite photos of the shoot, I want to develop these photos through manually and digitally editing in drawings. I found that I needed to edit these photos black and white because the background being was too bright and was distracting the eye of the viewer to the bright colours instead of the main focus which is the model, also if I were to edit these photos it would of been to distracting as there would be too much going on the photo.

With these photos I had been experimenting with the drawing tool on Photoshop, I liked how detailed and well it turned out so I am thinking of using something like this in my later work, I could use the pencil tool onto other things in the photo, maybe drawing a pattern on his hand would look good.

Using this camera shot when taking the photos enable the viewer to see what’s going on around him but also enables a close up where the viewer can see detailed of the face and what is going on in the picture, as I want the face to be the main focus to this photo, I have edited shapes coming out of the face so that the main area where the viewer will be attracted to look at is the face of the model, the shapes around the face highlights the face and creates this as the main focus, this is one of my favourite photos from the shoot because there is no emotion on the face of the model it creates a real depth to the photo.

image manipulation

These pictures I mainly focused on the editing tools in Photoshop, I used shapes more than drawing with these photos, because I wanted to experiment with how I can I use the shapes given to make something different with the photo, I really like how these have turned out and like how the little shapes have created a pattern on the face of the model, I would ideally want to develop this idea and use it further into my work, I am thinking of using an idea like this into my final exam. My favourite out of these is the photo were he is facing to the side and the pattern is going round his eye and face I would want to use an idea like this into my final piece. I have chosen the colours black and white as I find with the black on-top of the photo it will look better and work better than having bright colours.

This photo is where I experimented more with the patterns on the face and other parts of the body, I like how this turned out, it creates the photo to be different it almost looks like he is turning into something not human, I really like how it creates this kind of look onto the model instead of just having a normal photo. I find that I chose the colours black and white to fix on throughout all of my photos because I find these photos come out looking more real, the black and white creates detail into the face and adds more texture to the material and objects around the model. If the photo was in colour I find the scene around the model would be really br The rail in front of the model, creates a rough texture to the photo, its in sharp focus more than the actual model, I like how this stands out. Also how the model is stood, leaning in it in a way creates the eyes of the viewer to be looking at what’s in-front of the model. I noticed the texture of the rail straight away but if you look for a longer time you start noticing the textures of the jacket he is wearing, the black and white has brought out the darker areas of black in the jacket and added more detail and texture to this area of the jacket.

-ight, it would be quite distracting and the viewer would look more into these colours and what’s going on behind the actual aspect I want to be in focus, I have muted this colours to lower the brightness of them in the photo. These photos were taken with the source of light being the sun diffused by the clouds above I find that these photos were darkened it adds more detail to the photo. Where as on the photo of him sat down, the light is shining directly at him it brightens up specific areas of the photo which I like, because it adds more focus to these areas in the photo.

The photo of him standing with his hand on the rail, I took to experiment with just using objects in-front of the actual model rather than editing it, I wanted the rails to imitate the legs of the model, obstructing them in a way, these photos are good but I don’t find my strongest photos I have taken, so developing from these photos I will be using more of a digital side to when I am editing them, because I find there stand out more and they are always my strongest photos compared to the others.

experimenting with drawing on my photos. With these pictures I wanted to experiment and edit with drawing over photos, I have used a lot of digital editing throughout my photos and I wanted to experiment more with manually editing the photos I had taken rather than digital. I wanted to experiment with different kinds of drawings, and different ideas of mine and see what looks better than others. I really like how the photo on the left turned out, I like the patterns coming round his eye of his face, when doing the photo on the right I didn’t like how it turned out, I don’t like how it looks this is an area of improvement I can learn on for work further on.

magic wond tool- digital edits

This picture i used colour over black and white, because i wanted to experiment with the differerent colours rather than just white and black, using colour has helped with experimenting with different ideas from doing this i found that i prefer the idea of just black and white it looks better. There was not much lighting in the place i took the photo, because it was underground, where the lighting was defused there is a darkness and shadows created to the photo.

These photos I was using Photoshop to edit with, using this tool enabled me to select sections of the photo to then turn a colour, with the photo on the left I turned the selected areas to turn into other areas of the photo, I liked this idea because the photo had a meaning to it, as it was replaced with areas of other areas of the picture, where as the other photos was just replaced with different colours. I also like this idea of changing bits of the photo to colour, because it is also a different way I could manipulate the image I took. With this photo is the meaning behind it invisibility, to the viewer does this make the character seem to them as invisible, maybe the character is feeling alone, and the picture helps describe this story of feeling alone.

I really like how the shadows have been displayed in the photo, there are darker and lighter sections to the photo. The shadows and lighting creates a darker to the photo, this makes the audience feel more emotion and empathy towards the photo.

APERTURE- F3

These photos were taken from far away, I wanted to take some photos from a long shot so this will allow me to have space to if I wanted to edit around the model and make the setting around the model different, rather than just changing aspects of the model. These ideas have been developed from the ideas I found from researching on Flora Borsi work, I liked how she would use drawings over the face and body, and disguise in a way the original photo, she would use a lot of art in her work which I liked, this gave me the inspiration to use art into my work.

evaluation From this shoot I have produced final edits of photos I have taken of my male model, the aim of this shoot was to take RE-shoots of the photos I had previously taken of my female model, I think these photos express more my art and what I want to include into my photography, I think the kind of work I have produced expresses my view on photography and what I want to show about my idea and my work. The final outcome is my photos that I have edited on, it has helped me a lot of what ideas I want to drop or take further, thinking of my final piece I am thinking of taking this work, and developing the ideas further to be able to use in my final piece. I have chosen this idea because I think it most helps me show the photographers work I have been looking at and I like how these photos have came out, I want to take more photos to work with maybe using two models will work better. For this shoot I used many different camera shots and angles when taking the photo, I wanted to experiment with the different camera shots so that I had a good idea on what photos I could work with, working out whether the close ups or long shots were better to work with when it came to editing them. Then looking at angles see whether taking the photo from a low angle or taking it from a high angle would look better, from experimenting with these angles I found out that eye level photos were much better when it came to editing as the photo came out better, and I generally preferred them. When producing these photos I found that I was exploring many different ideas on image manipulation, I was looking at how the photo could be changed by using different types of edits to alter the image, I experimented with different tools on Photoshop, using the magic wand tool to change sections of the photo coloured, then using the pen tool to draw over the areas I wanted there to be drawings over. This are all the ideas I was thinking about, but with this shoot I have experimented more with these ideas and seeing what works and what doesn’t work. The ideas I liked had to be the photos with drawings over the faces, I want to carry forward this idea in my work, where as I don’t see how the coloured pictures would work in the photos, I could develop this idea by maybe not using a solid colour but a picture I have previously taken and putting it onto of a section of the photo. I find this shoot successfully shows my understanding of image manipulation and how differently you can show your ideas through your pictures, with my pictures I am expressing more of my interpretation of photography and adding in art, this is my idea that was inspired by researching into Flora Borsi work. If I was to take this further I would want to develop on the digital editing of the photos maybe using two models to make them more different, I would like a girl and a boy so there’s complete opposites in the two photos, this will enable me to edit them the same, which would look good as how different both photos are. The work was inspired by the ideas I got from researching on her work and seeing how she would use glass and plastic to change the way we see the image, I want to take this into account but using drawings over the photo to change the way we see the image. I have interpreted the work by looking at different pictures of Flora’s work and seen how she has created her photos, my favourite piece of hers is where the lady’s face is facing the camera but she is holding a plastic card in-front with a drawing on-top of a lady face in just lines, I like how she has done this has inspired me to do a similar idea with my pictures in the future maybe I could experiment with editing on a photo, printing on estate and then having that photo on-top of the original, this would be blocking the original photo and changing it, I want to experiment this with my final piece.

With these photos I got my model to run down in a small alley, and to look back and the camera, these photos were mainly to experiment with different lengths of shutter speed, I have used roughly the same in all of my shoots, with this shoot I was told to vary the types of shutter speed, these photos I took I slowed down the length the shutter speed would go at so that it would catch her moving when she’s running, these have to be my favourite pictures out of the shoot as I really like how the light has been captured in the photo. The shadows and light really stand out in the background, this is my favourite part of the photo, how in the distance there’s a bright light surrounding the model. I told the model to turn back and look at the camera as she was running so I could capture the moment she turned her head, I wanted to get a slow effect onto the photo, and it turned out quite well, as I was running after her and taking the photos the way the camera had been moving meant the photo came out perfect and makes the photo looks slowed down.

Using black and white edit on these photos captures the light and dark sections of the photo and brings them out more, it creates a real focus on the really darker and lighter sections I like how it has done this, because there are a lot of different grey scales in the photo. The way in which the colours and lighting comes out creates a real focus on the model and what she is doing, as she is running it almost makes the viewer of the photo feel as they are on the journey with them, running with them, like there following her it will make the viewer feel excited about the photo, like they are adventuring.

With these pictures i really wanted to capture the movement she was doing, so i sat down tried to keep the camera as still as posible and got the model to turn around a couple of times, the aim of this was to capture the amount of movement she was doing in a certain amount of time, where was turning so fast the slow shutter speed had captured Different positions she was in, I really liked this because you cant actually see the model perfectly but you can make out certain bits but then other certain areas are really hard to work out, I quite like how this has happened it keeps the viewer wondering and questioning what to what is going on in the photo and what is in the photo, I would like my photos to be looked at for a while and to be questioned

questioning will allow them to have there own idea on what everything is in the photo and to what is going on in the photo, I want my viewers to find my photos interesting and want them to look at it, and I find shutter speed and movement does this.

experimenting with possible ideas- repitition

With this photo I was experimenting with different ideas onto how to change my image and edit it better, and to produce this I took chunks of the photo out and replaced with other chunks so that I could alter the way we look at the image in-front of us. I like how this photo has turned out because it changes the normality in the photo, I chose to highlight the areas which are pasted because it allows the viewer to be able to see the areas that have been changed, it creates a focus onto these areas which I aiming for as its the main focus on the photo.

i used overlay when editing this photo, to change sections of the photo to negative, I like how this has obstructed the way we look at the photo. Just like the photo next to it I have put a colour shape ontop

So that the photo behind is obstructed in a way, I like how the side of the face is blocked, this might make the viewer frustrated as they want to find out what’s going on behind the shape, want to see the rest of the photo it may make them wonder why? Why is this part covered up it creates questions for the viewer to ask.

reflection noitcefler With this picture I simply reflected the first photo, I did this to experiment with certain techniques and how I could make a photo more interesting, I chose this photo to do this with, because the way the model is sat, reflecting it works well because it looks like the model is facing each-other, seems like there is two of them, I like how this has worked out. The photo bellow I experimented with using the same photo and putting them into shapes, I like how the photo has been repeated in a number of times but they are all in different shapes so you see different sections of the photo, this is one of my favourite edits when experimenting with techniques.

RE-SHOOTS FOR FINAL PIECE

ISO- 500

SHUTTER SPEED- 100

APERTURE- F9

For my final idea I had been looking at pictures that I did for my level 6 re-shoots, but as I was experimenting and editing with these pictures I felt as these pictures could be made stronger with a different model beside him, I didn’t want them together in the photos, I liked my level 4 photos, and wanted to use this model in my final piece, I took some more of photos of this model and really liked how they came out, I only took the ones I knew I wanted to use in my final piece, as I looked at the previous shoot and knew what I had in mind for this shoot.

possible idea:1

This is my first possible idea this idea came from the whole idea of my idea of image manipulation, using art over the face, my idea was inspired by the thought of turning the face and features of the model into something different turning the normal not normal. I wanted to outline aspects of the photo and creating them different to the others, following my ideas through from experimenting with manual and digital edits, it gave me the idea to digitally edit the photos on estate and then to put this asatate on-top of the photo, this idea represents my idea of the normal photo being underneath and the blocking of the not normal in-front. I like this idea and ideally want to experiment more with this idea experimenting more with what else I could do to develop from this idea for my final piece.

possible idea: 2

This is also another possible idea, where instead of manually editing with the photo, I would use the bubble gum as the object that would be obstructing the normality of the photo, the bubble will be changing the normal view of the photo and what was normal about the photo, I got these photos from my shutter speed shoot where I was experimenting with changing the length of the shutter speed, I liked how these all turned out, its a number of action shots of her blowing up a balloon, the main idea behind this is that the bubble is obstructing the normality of her just sat there, I would want to develop this further into my work by using stitching over the bubble so that the bubble is exaggerated, and stand out and that the stitching obstructs the view of the bubble and changes the normality of the photo.

manual edits

These are my manual edits where I was experimenting with different drawings and different ideas for my final piece, this ideas came from the idea of obstructing the view of the normal photo, my idea is to change and alter the image that I have taken, inspired by my photographer Flora Borsi, I have used the idea of obstructing the image given to me by drawing and editing over the picture, developing this photo further I will be experimenting with printing this

Onto asatate and then putting this printed photo of asatate onto the photo and then putting this asatate photo on-top of the normal will illustrate the idea of the not normal on-top of the normal, so I’m manipulating the not normal on-top of the normal. I like this idea and would like to use this kind of idea through to my final piece, I will need to experiment with editing and seeing how it prints onto asatate.

I am experimenting with different ways in which I could stitch onto the photo, I wanted to test out how stitching would work on the photos, I like how it has turned out and want to use this kind of idea when it comes to doing my final piece, either stitching onto the face and manipulating parts of the face or stitching around the photo bordering it around the photo, because the asatate wont stick to the photo, so stitching around the photo will keep both copies together.

stitching

TEXTURES- PATTERNS Moving on from my possible ideas I came across the idea of using patterns from my own photos to actually manipulate into the face of the model and add the pattern from the photo into the face, so you will be able to see the face but the pattern will be overlapping onto the face, this idea came from the whole idea I am basing my work on where the face and main parts of the photo but replacing it with this pattern, I will be experimenting with different photos and different ideas and seeing what works well with each photos, I definitively want to use this idea for my final piece, as I find its a strong idea and works well with my idea of obstructing and altering the normal image with a manipulation of something not normal. These photos have come from Amsterdam i liked this photos i had taken and want to include them into my final piece as its reflects me into my own work.

stitching- MARIA APARICIO This photo is from my level 6 Re-shoot I have taken this image and edited it onto Photoshop, I used the drawing tool to outline the model, then by using the quick selection tool on the face I then copied and inserted one of my own photos from Amsterdam into this photo has created a pattern onto the face, it manipulates the face of the model well and works well with the idea of image manipulation, having a pattern across the face is

Representing the not normal to the normal, when my viewers look at the work I want them to question what’s normal and not normal, maybe its the other way round? Maybe they might think the normal is boring, I want them to have there own perspective on my work and there own view on what my photo and editing means to them, and what it implies.

My idea of stitching developed from looking through Maria Aparicio’s work, I liked how she would stitch over the photo to manipulate it, this helped with the idea of using stitching to help manipulate the photo, instead of using stitching to edit and manipulate the image, I am going to stitch around the boarder of the photo , because the asatate wont stick to the normal photo stitching round it will keep it together to then be framed, this is why I will be doing this idea into my final piece.

With these photos I experimented with what kind of stitching I will be using into my final piece, whether I was going to go around the photo with stitch or whether I was going to stitch over the photo and it will help bring out the drawings I would have already drawn on the photo, I quite like the idea of stitching, and from experimenting with these photos I now know how I will be stitching over the photos, I will be stitching around the photos to boarder the actual photos I find that if I stitch over the photo it might look to busy over the photos that I have already edited over.

this is a screenshot of the layers i had made, i used pictures i had taken in amsterdam and layered them ontop of the photo to create this. it was done by using the quick selection tool on photoshop.

These photos were to experiment with different ideas on the same photo, I wanted to see how different patterns would work the same photo, this helped to see what would work better, I did this by selecting the quick tool on Photoshop and selecting the layer I wanted to put in-front of the photo, the layers were all different photos from Amsterdam. When I visited there I really liked the architecture of the places and liked the art they displayed on the buildings, as this is a part of me and my journey to Amsterdam I wanted to include this into my work, so that my work would reflect me and my journey as these were taking during thinking for my final piece, they helped inspire me with my ideas of art into my photography. After looking at these photos I find that my favourite is the top left, with the blue I find it has more detail to the photo and looks good, I like how bright it is and how much it stands out, its also very different to the others and I find ill stand out more compared to the other photos.

From looking at my ideas and experimenting with editing and drawing, I printed the photos I edited onto asatate and will put these over the photos that I have taken, this idea is based on normal and not normal, I will be obstructing the normal with the not normal, this is my main idea I am focusing on when doing my final piece.

This is one of my photos from level 6 Re-shoot I have used Photoshop to edit over and draw over, to create something not normal about the photo, I really like how this has turned out and will be using this idea into my final piece. Placing this photo over the normal photo

This photo was taken on my Re-shoots took this photo and started to edit it o this i used the drawing pen tool on ph hair on the model, i liked how in this p in the wind, i want to exergerate this m over the hair, i then used the face to m a photo from amsterdam over it, i like shows the unormality of the face.

s for my final piece, i then on photoshop, to create hotoshop to draw over the photo the hair was moving movement by drawing manipulate and overlay ed how this turned out, it

This photo was taken in my Re-shoots for my final piece, I wanted to get a close up to work with, like the shoots of George, I chose this photo because it had a lot of potential to work with when it came to editing the photos.

I wanted to add something similar to the edit I did of my male model, same idea using the dots over the face I wanted to turn the face into a pattern of dots, changing the normality of it, this illustrates well my idea of what is normal, it adds more fun and interest to the picture, and it will make the viewer think to why I have done this, its not a normal thing to see which is what I aiming for in my final photos.

final idea- mock ups

From researching and experimenting ideas i have came up from the idea for my final piece, aspects like the photos of the paper, testing out the angles and camera shots i can use when taking photos have helped me so much wtth the development of taking my photos and planning how i will be taking them, also experimenting with the different angles and camera shots have massivily helped me with the progression of my photos, i can see a massive difference in how many angles and camera shots i am now using, taking somethign so basic like paper and taking a wide range of photos of this has developed my photgraphy skills a lot. Then leading on from this choosing the topic Image Manipulation i had such a small knowledge when it came to this concept of work, i thourght it was just manipulating an image ontop of another, but by researching i saw what photographers were doing and seeing how they manipulated there images, this helped a lot with inspiring my ideas of using objects and drawings into my work, my first shoot was done to interpriate and show what i had learnt from reseraching into Flora Borsi’s work, i saw that she was using objects like glass filled with water and plastic, to maniuplate the photos behind she was taking, i used this idea in my first shoot, by using the bowl of water to manipulate the hand in the bowl, the hand was changing shape, this was maniuplating a part of her body, then i used objects like cd players and flowers to manipulate the eye of the model, when doing this shoot it helped me experiment with my own ideas that where inspired by looking at Flora Borsi’s work. Level 4 was to produce a shoot which was based on your own ideas, taking this in mind i took a vary of photos, and then produced

using photoshop a series of photos that were edited and manipulated with using different tools on photoshop, i used a vary of tools like pens, the shapes to maniuplaute the image and change the normality of this image. After this i produced a so far video, putting everything together so far, all my ideas together, and what i had so far, looking at all my photographers and seeing there work helped infulence my ideas and helped me put all my ideas together. It was a way to see how far i have come with my ideas and how i could devlop with them further in my work. My next task was leading on from all my ideas to then do a series of photos that were Re-shoots based on initial ideas and first photo shoot, baring this in mind i took the model and took a series of different photos of him, with these photos i then experimented with more tools like magic wand tool, selecting a part of the photo and overlaping another photo or colour infront to then manipulate the image, this is a development from my other shoots as i was trying basic tools out with my first shoot, where as with this shoot i was exeprimenting mroe with different techqniues. I also used these pictures to experiment on what i could do with my final piece, from my visist to amsterdam, the art and arcitecture out there inspired me to use these photos into my final piece, i wanted to use the photos i took of the buildings out there into my photo, with quick selection tool on photoshop. From this i thourght to express the difference in the normal and not normal i would print one photo normal, and have the not normal one on asatate like its covering and obstructing the normal image, i will then have this over it, this asatate will be the edited version of the photo, i will stitch round the two photos to put them together this will be the outcome of my final piece, i like how my final piece reflects onto me traveling to amsterdam, and i like how the idea has come from the idea of blocking the normal with not normal, i want my viewer of the photos to have there own opinipion on the photo and to have there own interpretation on what the photo and the edit means.
