These pictures stood out to me from her work, because they were so different, all her work is so different its not consistent when you just look at it, but when your learn why she took these photos there is a pattern to the work, its showing the side of beauty that everyone doesn’t agree with in the world, I think this is such a good topic to focus on her photos, every other fashion photographer has focused there work on beauty, there idea of beauty, the general populations idea of beauty.

RICHARD AVEDON was born on May the 15th (1923) in New York City, he then died on October 1st, 2004. In his life he went to produce many artworks like the Boyd Fortin, Thirteen Year Old Rattlesnake Skinner, His work I noticed because its a fashion photographer I have looked Sweater-water, TX and many at from a long time ago, if I want more, he was a very successful Fashion Photographer who to include this kind of style of work into my work I’m going to need focused a lot of his work on to be able to see how fashion pho- Fashion portraits. Diane Arbus, was born on March the 14th 1923. She was an American photographer and writer, she was notorious for her photographs of dwarfs, giants, transgender people , nudist, circus performers and anyone who was perceived as ugly from the general population. In 1972, a year after she had committed suicide she was the first American photographer to have photos displayed at the Venice Biennale.

Ansel Adams He was born February 20th, 1902 he then died April 22nd, 1984, he was a photographer in America , he was also a environmentalist. He would focus on black and white landscape photographs of the western America, these photos have been used again in calenders, posters, books and the internet. He and Fred Arcer developed the Zone system to determine proper exposure
Eugene Atget was born 12th F e b r u a r y 1857, he was a documentary photographer, he was notorious for his pictures of architecture and street photographer , he focused on street scene s in Paris.
Most of his work was first published by Bernice Abbott after this death. People only started noticing his work at the age of 68, at the age of 70 he died and never lived to see his work being appreciated as much as it was, and is even in this day. I like his work because he used a lot of reflection in his work, mirrors mostly, capturing the areas we cant see.
Adjust the contrast of the final print. This resulted in clarity and depth in his work, he was able to use large format camera because of their high resolution helped ensure sharpness in all this images.
My favourite photo out of these is the photo of the lady, with the reflection of her in the mirror behind, it makes me wonder what she is doing, why is she positioned like this? Why is she in a room? Who’s room, the picture makes you question a lot.

My favourite photo from his photos is definitely the photo of the road system, I like the angle he has taken it, and managed to capture a lot in a little photo, I like the detail and clarity it displays in the photo.

Henri Cartier Bresson
Was born in August 22, 1908, in France, he then died in August 3, 2004, aged 95. He was a French humanist photographer, and early user of the 35mm film camera. His photography consisted a lot around street photography, his photography was aimed around capturing the moment, his work has influenced a lot of photographers who continue to photograph street photography even in this present day.

He won many awards for the photos he had produced over the years, Grand prix de la photographie in 1981, Hasselblad Award in 1982. He also was employed by a film director, Jean Renoir, he played a servant in the film the director only wanted him to do this so he could understand what it was like to be the other side of the lens, he said how it helped him understand more how to tell the models how to be positioned when it came to him filming and taking photos for the film, he then went on to help film. I love his photos, because I could use this kind of idea of street photography, could help me with using a different way of photographing someone possession.
Was born July 14th, 1934, he was an American photographer and artist. In the 1960s and 1970’s evolved an influential and often imitated visual language of urban social landscape. His work focused a lot round reflection, I like how his work is displayed, he captures a lot into one photo, he will take a photo of something like a window, but capture also what’s going on behind him, and in-front of him. His photography is mainly capturing things like store front reflections, structures framed by fences, posters and street signs.porum eatem sin

David Goldblatt David was born on November the 29th 1930, he was born in Randfrontein, he is a south African photographer, he is known for his portrayal of south Africa during the time of the apartheid, he also has taken a massive interest in landscape photography. He says that he see’s himself as ‘ a self-appointed observer and critic of the society into which we were born in’. His photography stood out to me, because its very unusual, he takes photos of moments, my favourite photo is the one on the left of the couple dancing, its different, I like how he has positioned both the couple and the person to the left of them, you wonder is that person observing, are they at a competition, is it there opposition, an ex I like photos which make you question a lot about what is going on in the photo and I found that this photo did to this for me.

I loved his work because black and white photos for me really do stand out, I like how there’s no colour on the photo but there is so much depth, and so much clarity to the photo I find when there is colour to the photo it takes away the aspects of the photo and people focus on the colour.

Seydou was born in 1921, in Mali, then died in 2001 in France. He says he ‘photographs eloquently portray Bamako society during its era of transition from a cosmopolitan French colony to an independent capita’. He was first trained by his father to be a carpenter, but soon came to the realisation that he wanted to carry on a career in photography, his career launched in 1935, this was launched because he began to take photos when his uncle gave him his first camera (Kodiak brownie flash) He then began to take photos and printed them. He then moved onto a different camera to able him to produce higher quality photos. In 1984 he then opened up his own studio, He would photograph anything in this studio and then sell his prints, his business really lifted for him. He said off course its easy to take a photo everyone can do it, but what was special about my work is that I would always know what position to take the photos and
And I was never wrong. He said that he was always capable of making someone look good with the positioning he would choose on each different photo’. He went to such lengths to make sure he had the right back drop for each person, and carefully chose out his props to bring out the beauty of each individual model. What I like about his photos is the positioning he uses when taking the photo’s he positions the model in such unusual ways and this stands out in his work,I want to keep this in mind when I’m taking my photo’s because I want my models to stand out, the way he has positioned the props it the model gives me ideas on how I can position my models with there positions, when researching him he really helped me with influencing me with my own ideas with taking my photos.

This work stood out to me compared to the others because they were the ones that really caught my attention, I loved how he had positioned the model with her hand over her mouth, its covering a bit of her face which I like, I could use this idea when coming to the idea of covering the possession over the face of the model. I also like the depth to the black and white photos its so interesting. With the photo of the girl and her tears, its so interesting because the water just sits on her face, he was able to capture this which I wonder how he has done that.

Wolfgang Tillmanss was born in 1968, he is a German Fine-art photographer. He was the first photographer and the first non English person to win the Tate annual Turner Prize. He began with just taking photos of friends, mostly fashion portraits and his immediate surroundings. His work has appeared in I-D, Spex, Sz Magazine, big fashion industry. He has such a unusual way of displaying fashion I think that’s why his work stands out so much more than other fashion photographers, one shoot he had the mod
Was born in February 23, 1984 , he is a Japanese photographer currently working in Tokyo, Japan and New York City, He produces Catalogues which each a made up of a number of series which each present a very different theme throughout. He focuses his photography around series of events, He also focuses a lot of his work around the transience of life and conflict between life and death. His work is influences with the writings and work of Marcel Duchamp, who focus on movements as a whole.
To produce his photos he uses a large format camera, he will use very long exposures when taking his photos. I liked his work because each one of his pictures are all so different, threes some architecture in his photos, then there’s an element of fashion, he focuses on black and white photos which I like because there’s so much depth to them, the picture of the lights are so simple but so interesting, he uses lights a lot in his work, the photo of the girl has a projector shining at her and the pictures are all over her body this is such an interesting way of producing work and display-

Martin Parr
Martin Parr was born on the 23 May 1952, he was a British documentary photographer, he was a photojournalist and a photo-book collector. He was well known for this projects take an interesting way of modern life, in particular his project where he documented the social class of England, and also a project on the wealth of the Western World. But the major projects that have been success where his projects on the rural communities.

His work really stood out to me compared to other artists and photographers because it was so interesting how he put his view into work, how he documented social class, wealth and political topics and some how displayed this through his series of photos, he would almost make documentary through his work. I loved the colours he would use in his work, the colours would help express the kind of social class he was documenting, the social class of England he had included very tacky bright colours.

He has travelled over 120 countries, in his photographic projects. He has taken photos and documented in so many countries.
His work is so interesting because he has documented social, political changes in the world, he has documenter through photography different places and scenic areas some people might not be aware of. His propositioning of the camera is interesting because he always positions the camera so that the eyes of the person is always staring the person looking at in the face, he focuses a lot on one character in the photo, having a close up allows the person looking at the photo, connect with that person, see how there feeling this is important it documentary photography as it tells more about the photo.

Proposal What type of photography are you going to do? I have chosen the theme people and possessions because this theme stood out to me, it excites me when I see other photographers work like ‘Elliot Ewrwitt’were he has comically displayed peoples and there possessions, where as artists like Anne Hardy who set up a room full of possessions and the viewer would need to guess who would be in that room, and why?. To produce photos which are focused on fashion/portrait photography I have looked at many photographers like ‘Anna Victoria best’ who which focuses on fashion her photos, her work massively influences how I would like to photograph and how to set it out. Fashion has a massive part in my life. Richard Avedon said ‘My portraits are more about me than they are about the i take this into account when ever i am about to produce a shoot, people I photograph’ because i think its important to show the person viewing the photo more about the photogographer, i like the idea that someone could find out more about you with just looking at a photo. - i want to focus on different camera angles because i think thats important when the theme is about the person because getting that view point could change the whole photo. what contexts could this type of photography be used in? commercial/ fne art/ graphic design/ performance Fashion Magazine- to display on a fashion magazine, advertsisng new brand or new items of clothing. Fine art- i am aiming to take a series of photos and editing in photogrshop patterns of collarge, devloping this i could see myself collarging with actual materials on the photos and i could see that in galleries. - commercially my photos could be used in advertsising, a fashion magazine.
who are your influences for this project? photographers/ artists names: Im massively influenced with work from Elliot Erwitt; his work commically displays the way in which he views people and there possessions. He used computer animation to produce his photos. He was a photographer for a magazine in the 1950’s, which i idealy want to do in the future, his work has inspired me in a different apporach of photography. Anna Victoria Best, is a modern day photographer who focuses on fashion, she is also employeed by magazines to photograph the latest fashion, i love her style of work and would like to include this style when photographing for my theme.
Richard Avedon was a photographer for vogue in the 90’s, this would be my dream job and he was the first new yorker to be employeed by vogue, he inspired me into not just being a dream but a goal, i want to carry on learning different styles of work, and develpping my work so i can show variety in my work. Cynthia Conolly’s work of ‘banned in DC’ stood out to me because it showed a possession of relationships throguh a banned which is a different way in looking at possessions, i want to look at relationships and how one another can be eachothers possession.
what will your subject be for this project? what are you photographing? i am going to focus on literal possessions as my first subject, because to learn an d devlop my ideas through the subject i think i need to start from the basic and start from my idea of literally what a possession is, i am going to be taking photos of my friends and whatever there holding at the time, using close ups when taking these photos will create a focus on the object and the person but i wanted to detatch the object and the person so that the person viewing it could geuss a little into what the person is like, taking a series of photos will allow me to see what possessions are more imprtant, my aim is to photograph the basic idea of possession.
my next shoot wil be taking more photos of my grandma and her collections she has in her hosue, i think this is developing from not just a possession but a range of possessions that she collects. (collection of possessions-hoarders)
what techniquess will you use? After i will be putting these photos and editing them on photoshop and editing collarge on these photos. i will also be playign around wit exposure, darkness and light in the images so i can get the perfect look on the photo. As techniques go i will be further editing the photos manually so i can play around with different editing techniques manually. ideally i want to show different ways of looking at posessions, and i want each shoot to show a different idea of possession.
plan of action I have chosen the theme of people and possessions, the main question I aim to explore is ‘the possession of the person’ I want to explore different kinds of people and see what possessions make that person, I want to explore the idea of story through the possessions of a person. I have selected Aaron Siskind and William Eggleston to research into my essay because I find their work different to each other but both interesting because they both represent the idea of possession of people, they also explore different ideas in people and possessions and have done very differently. I want to also focus on the idea of relationships, different kinds of relationships, friends, best friends, love, hatred, mum and daughter, to explore on the idea that people can be the possession of others. I’m looking forward to taking photos and exploring more to just the objects of the people I am photographing when I first chose this theme I was very stuck for ideas, I wasn’t sure where to lead from, and what to take photos off. I chose this theme because I knew it would be different and difficult to take photos on. But then exploring into others work and seeing what more I can do, I have been inspired into taking some photos. I would want to work more on changing the aperture onto the camera to get darker and lighter photos and getting an outcome of a different range of photos. I want to experiment more with my photos using more of the dark room, to see the other different ways I can display my photos. The dark room can definitely help me develop my ideas further, the dark room photos are different and something I didn’t do much in last year’s work, I want to push myself even further this year with my work so will experiment more in the dark room. Another way I can develop my work is by evaluating the work I would have done (my shoots) evaluating myself, see what went wrong, what went well what ideas I shouldn’t and should include next shoot, this would help me see where I need to develop with my shoots, developing my photography even further. I want to explore how I can develop my ideas from one shoot to the next but using a wide variety of ways to show this, I could research into how other photographers take their photos, what materials they use, by finding out what materials they use, it can help me when it comes to doing my own shoots and when I’m figuring out what I can use to make my photos look better, and also how I can use these kind of materials in my photography. When taking photos, I can focus my lens on the eye of the model, I find this connects more with the viewer, this is important because I want the viewers’ attention to be caught using aperture mode on the camera allows me to change round the aperture and the depth of field. I can alter the ISO this will alter how sensitive the camera lens is to light, if there’s faster the ISO the lighter the picture will turn up, the slower the ISO the picture will turn out darker I could experiment with this to see how the photos can turn out. Carefully choosing the locations will help me develop my ideas, if I use a bland background with just a person this isn’t really telling the viewer much about the person and their possessions, and also very boring, If I take photos of them in their house or a place they always are, a place that tells the viewer more about them, and what I’m photographing and what possession The props I will be using are from the models I am photographing because this is telling the audience more about the person I am photographing. I want there to be a massive impact to my work, so that my work will stand out, I need to think and explore others work and see how they have made their work to stand out compared to others, and what ideas catch my eye, looking into more photographers like James Mollison, Hanna Lenz and Luke Fowlers who all focus on the idea of people and possessions this will help me look at the different ways in which they all display this idea through their work. James Mollison simply takes a portrait picture of the person and has a picture of their possession next to them, I like this idea as it’s simple, but effective because that one object gives a clue into more about the person, it doesn’t say too much or too little about the person. Hanna has used a timeline of one person, to show how she uses her possessions in her home, it’s interesting how she used someone old, they have more detail on their face I find it makes the photo look more interesting. I liked how Hanna expressed the lady’s possessions without simply displaying it, she told a story with the different possessions, it’s something I would like to explore with in my future work. Work I am really interested in is Luke Fowlers, the work that caught my eye from his is the’ two frame films’ I
would love to explore using a different type of camera, using a half-frame camera in some of my work would help my ideas develop. In his work there is a link between the two but some are harder to link and there are less connections between the two. He has connected some images by using one half and mimicking the half with another image on the opposite side. I ask myself whether the photographer wanted us to see the connection between the two images or he wanted us to see them as completely different shots that were just joined. I found that all the photos taken where taken well because the models were unaware they were being photographed, there’s one photo where the couple are directly looking, I don’t think this is a strong photo and I think that’s because you can see the awareness of the couple they know they are being photographed which doesn’t look as well as the others.

These photos were taken at the start of the course where I was just given the topic to study, this was my first interpretation of what I thought of the topic.
These photos were a few photos I took in Barcelona, I wanted to document the possession of the taxi man, his car is his job? And his possession is used by so many different people which I found interesting.
This mind map was to brainstorm over ideas by just looking at the title, when I chose this title I was given any information about it, I just looked through photos on the focus of people and possessions this helped me get some ideas. But this is just showing the kind of ideas I came up with by just being given the title, I looked at literal possessions that I would focus on photographing, then will focus more on depth into the possession in the photo. When looking at this mind map of ideas, I have looked at possessions more deeply, not just basic possessions, someone emotion? Could be a possession, a generation (phones) in the present generation.

SUMMER PHOTOS

Exploring Ideas Devloped From Mind Map
Summer Photos
she is older, i picked up objects of hers round her room that were anything to do with hair and beauty and placed them behind a black screen i photographed these objects, because they interested me, her main goal in life is These photos were the photos i produced after looking through ideas from my mind map. When looking at my 1st minp map i talked about the idea of talking about taking photos of a literal possession, someones pet, relationships, someones hobbies being there possession.
I think when going through ideas hobbies stood out to me because it was something different, you dont really think of somones hobbies to be someones possession. But i made the hobbie into a possession and took photos of this.
36
My aim of this shoot was to tell the person from the possession, if you havent guessed the person i photographed in this has a hobbie of beauty and hair, she wants to go into this when
to have her own salon, which gave me more of the idea to include the radio, the mirror, things that would go in her salon. The photos of the model were taken so i could get a
good portrait of the model i was photographing, i placed objects like combes and scissors in her hair to show to the person viewing the photo th ekidn of idea behind it. I further went to develop these photos by editing on photoshop the collage around it, i really like how these have turned out and would like to use it fruther along in my work, because i think it adds uniqueness to the photo, because i have never seen this kind of work produced like this before.
This photos were inspired by the work of Cynthia Conolly, Cynthia used the idea of someones car being there possession, this was something they owned and felt passionate for, i also liked the style Cynthia would produce her work in. Her series
banned in the DC’ really interof photos ‘
ested me because i loved the way she would produce the work, i tried to use this idea when creating my work, with the black and white making it darker and grainy.
38
With these photos i tried to experiment with different colouring and different ways of producing the photo. i experimented with different angles, and possitions i placed the camera. I liked how these photos turned out because i think there a good variety into what photos came out, there different because i photographed some with the model portrait photos, and some with the objects i was placing on her.
39
VISUAL ELEMENTS
I began this shoot with all the objects in-front of me I then carefully placed each object in different places where I could capture them all in the photo, this is where I used framing and composition when composing my photos. Stereotypically girls are associated with the colour pink, as this shoot is ‘beauty’ I wanted to enhance the pinks to make the photos stand out even more. I told the model to move around and at a point where I thought it looked good I wound take the photo. The lighting used when taking these photos, was a lamp over the head of the model, and the doll. Having the lighting pointing in this direction created a shine and shadows over the photo, I like how this lighting and angle I pointed the light creates a rough texture because the light falls on the object of the hair in the photos of the doll creating a rough look on the hair. In this photo I enhanced the clarity on the photo creating a more sharper look on the photo to create a sharp detail.

Evaluation
This assignment was to show what I got from the mind map I first made when I was thinking through ideas on the topic of possession, I took these photos to show the idea of hobbies as being a possession, and how much makeup is a part of her life. In this photograph I can see how the model is looking straight at the camera, all her attention is focused on the mirror and how she looks in it. If someone wasn’t able to see this photo I would describe that its a girl sat in-front of the camera, its portrait and she is holding a mirror up at her face, she’s looking straight at the mirror she looks shocked. The photos I have created is abstract because the photo has been processed and not a naturalistic material. The objects seem to be known, but the material I don’t recognise is the collage behind it, that wasn’t there before I edited it in after taking the photo. I took the photo using a camera, on automatic setting on the camera, I then edited it through Photoshop, on Photoshop I lowered the exposure, and edited it black and white, with the selection tool, I then selected areas of the photo and changed the area to either be solid colour or a pattern. The patterns on the photo make these areas look rough. When I was looking through my mind map I made I wrote down how the idea of hobbies could be someone possession, and how someone life could be revolved round a couple of objects, I wanted to photograph this, I thought how much my sister cares about how she looks, she cant go without one day of wearing makeup I wanted to show how possessions and objects can effect someone life, this is where the idea for this shoot came from. I think the positioning works well with the photo, I like how she was positioned looking and focusing all the look on the mirror having the mirror so close to the shot, creates a focus on the mirror, I wanted it to make her look like she is concentrating more on how she looks rather than being photographed. The only thing I don’t like about some of thee photos is that I wasn’t intrigued by some of them, some came out really well and I was so proud, but some I wasn’t so sure about, I think other people might say the same, and say how some photos really caught there eye, but some didn’t, some where very basic, for my next shoot or my Re-shoots I don’t want this to happen I want to look at my work and cant stop looking at it. The original stimulus was to take photos of something that is important in my sisters life, something to show how objects can control someone life, and evidently that’s what I have created, I have created a number of photos of how objects can be such a big factor of someone life. From experiment with idea I came up with from my mind map it all helps me with the development and learning more and more about the subject of people and possessions.
45
PLANNING AND INTENT I will be taking these photos at evening time which means it will be a dark atmosphere in my room, this means that i will need to use a lamp near the model to light up the area, i want to use this effect on the photo’s because the focus of the shoot is the idea of her possessions being around beauty, her objects that reflect what she is like as a person, does she care a lot about image and what she is viewed at. To create this idea, i will be shining a spot light on the model, so she is in the main focus, everythings dark part from her.
I will be taking these photos in the models room, this is where i will get the props will be using in the shoot. If the idea around the shoot to be round beauty, the place she does her makeup is a good place to set the shoot.
I want to focus on the viewpoint i am seeing, the camera is capturing exactly what i am seeing and looking at. I will proabaly be focusing on close up shots of the model and shots of the objects around her. As i will be taking the photos at evening time it wont be as natural lighting, the lighting source will be from a lamp, this could effect how the photos come out, i will experiment with using flash and then will see whether if i take the flash off if the picture come out better. These photos represent my ideas from creating my mind map before summer, before summer i had made a mind map of all my throurghts and ideas over the topic people and possessions. One of the topics i wanted to looked as was Hobbies, and how objects can make a person, i wanted to look at how from just the objects can you tell who the person is.
To ensure the health and safety of the shoot i will make sure all props are not sharp and wont hurt the model i will be using, i will put in place procedures like checking the euipement isnt sharp or will hurt the model at all, make sure the props are securely being displayed on the model.
Making sure the model isnt wearing too little and could be under dressed, i will make sure she is corretly dressed, also making sure the model is safe in the enviroment i am shooting in, make sure the camera is safely securied on the tripod and the lamp is securley placed on a chair.
When using the equipment i will Making sure the lamp and tripod is secure, and make sure nothing will fall effecting the safe guard of the model. Making sure all the equipment is ready to use and safe will ensure that the shoot will go smoothly and i will be able to get the photos i was aiming to get.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSCF1748.JPG Aperture: f/ 8.4 Shutter speed: 1/20 ISO: 800 This photo has colour and stand out, I like how the photo is taken at an angle of the objects that are placed on the ground, so their is a detailed view on the objects. I like this photo because its a shot of the objects, I placed the camera on the surface of the floor for these photos because I wanted to get a low angle of the camera looking up at the objects.
Shot number: DSCF1782.jpg Aperture: f/8.4 Shutter speed: 1/15 ISO: 800 Aesthetic considerations: This photo was to show the concentration and focus on her absorbed she is by the possesion of the mirror and her self. I think the way i have taken this photo and possitioned the camera really expresses the way she isnt even facing the camera her whole body is positioned to the camera. Thoughts on shot: I like this photo because It has a lot too it that really excited me to experiment with different ideas on the photo.
Shot number: DSCF1784.jpg Aperture: F/8.4 Shutter speed: 1/15 ISO: 800 Aesthetic considerations: My favourite parts of this photo, and what I think is aesthetically beautiful about this photo is the positioning of the model its interesting, and different, the photo is quite dark but some areas are brighter I really like this about the photo. Thoughts on shot: My thoughts on this photo is that it intrigues me to experiment with but if I were to do it again I would of taken the photos a lot earlier in the day I think brighter lighting would of looked better, and experimenting with different aperture, shutter speed and ISO would of helped me see a more variety in the photos.

literal possessionsSummer photos This shoot i focused on the literal possessions of people, this is a very basic level of interpretation after looking through different artists work. These photos are representing the immediate possessions of people, this coudl be a relationship, an object someone owns. In this shoot i have focused more on the objects of a person objects in there home , editing these photos i have edited all the photos differently experimenting with different filters and different collage ideas. I have tried to possition the object of the photo as the subject to help show the emotion towards the object the person has. Some photographers have used the object in the photo to help show how the model views the object, where as some other photos have used the object just placed next to the person it belongs too. my opinion on this theme is that it is based on the aesthetics of photography, this shoot i have expermeimentd with stage photogshoots, placing rh object with the person, but further a long in my photos i want to experiment with cooperating the subject to create an image that refelcts the relationship with the person and the object (there possession) i want to experiment in my further shoots to photograph a series of people unaware they are being photgraphed, this will show the naturality of the photos and how they naturally feel towards the possession. The idea i got from this shoot was inspired by the photos of Elliot Ewitts style of work, he uses composition where the positioning reflects the person and the possession they have, this could be an emotional connection to the object or a comical presentation of there possession, where he used the idea of dogs being like there owners - edited the dog into the owners body. Elliots photos do seem to look staged but they could have been taken at a weel timed moment in time. Some of the photos i have taken where also inspired by Peter Menzels and how he encapsulates the possession of a person in a literal straightforward way, putting them as the centre of the photgraph, the focus of the photo.

MORE PHOTOS ON PEOPLE AND POSESSIONS- LONDON
These are more photos that I took in summer, using the idea of literal possessions, I would just go out with my friends and see what they were holding, or wearing everything they had on them, I wanted to capture the possessions to try capture the basic of possessions, my aim for taking these photos was for me to look and find out the most common object (possession) someone would have on them, for me to then further develop in my re-shoots. In my Re-shoots I want to aim the shoot and focus round the possession I found most common, looking at these shoots I found most important was the phone, everyone seemed to have a phone in there hand at all times, I want to enhance this idea of the phone being stuck to the hand through my photography.
In my Re-shoot I want to take photos of someone holding a phone, and for it to be the main focus around the photo, I will then further develop and experiment with other ways of the hand and phone being attached, maybe using the wire of the phone, of rope something attaching the hand and phone together and then taking photos of this.
‘Model: i just dont think i could live without it’
Evaluation
The photos I have taken are to represent literally a possession. When I was thinking about all the ideas a possession could mean I decide to do a mind map and start from the very basic possession and establish the idea then I would look more deeply into the topic, so I decided to start with a shoot that was taken around the topic of literally what I see as a possession, this was just me going out with my friends and taking photos of things they were holing at the time, when taking the photos I realised a lot that at least everyone I was photographing had a phone in their hand, it then came to my attention that this is the possession that almost everyone has or has had. I want to experiment more with this idea of the phone being a possession that most people will have, maybe in my re-shoots I could produce a shoot which uses this idea of the phone being so important. These photos were naturalistic but also abstract in a way, because there was a naturalistic side of the photos having landscape and forest in the background but some photos are on the person and displayed very abstract. To take these photos I simply used a phone to take these, it was because I was out and that was the only thing I had on me, if I were to do these photos again and do some re-shoots I would of used my normal camera I use, because this limited me on the kind of photos that came out, and limited me on the variety of the photos. What interests me a lot about these photos is the basic , I like how I have photographed the literal possessions because this is somewhere I can start off from I can then develop my idea from this idea by looking at different ways I can represent the possession not so literally this time. I think that these photos are effective because it shows the basic possession in everyday life. The original stimulus to these photos was to create a series of photos of everyday possessions in which everybody will see everyday, I then would photograph this, I took photos of my sister walking round outside whilst she was on her phone, this is because this is something that is the object I see on her mostly, I then followed by taking some photos of my dog as he is my possession literally and then he was with his toy which is also his possession. I then decided to take some more photos when I was on a walk with my friends, this had the possession of her dog, and also I took photos of different things she was holding, after these photos I really did realise how often the phone is a possession, and how reliant and obsessed with it.
PLANNING AND INTENT
PLANNING AND INTENT
AESTHETIC CONSIDERATIONS:
TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
TIME: I will be taking these throughout the day, they might be taken over a few hour period but roughly in the middle of the day . This wont really effect the variation of lighting on the photos.
HEALTH AND SAFETY: When taking these photos I will be making sure all equipment I will be using in the shoot will be safety secured and wont hurt or damage any of the models in the shoot, as this photo shoot will be being taken in the woods I will make sure the place we are going is safe and safe for us to walk around and take photos.
PLACE: I will be taking these photos whist on a walk with my friends, these photos will be set in the location of a forest, in the woods.
VIEWPOINT: I will be varying the difference in view points but I want to start experimenting with not just taking the photos of the person with the possession but just taking close ups of the persons hand holding the photos I did some of this in my last shoot but want to experiment it more with the shoot, it could be an idea I can develop like we guess the person from the possessions.
LIGHTING: From my last shoot I have chosen to take the photos in brighter lighting, because my last shoot I wasn’t massively pleased with the photos and looking through the photos I came to the realisation that it was because of the lighting I had used it was too dark, using a lighter lighting may help with the outcome of the photos, I will be using natural lighting from being outside, maybe too cloudy so going to adjust to how the weather is like at the time of the photos.
PURPOSE: The purpose of the photos is too represent the literal possessions we see everyday, I then want to develop this idea further into how these possessions effect out lives as people, does it make the people we are we all influenced into having these possessions and what even makes a possession.
SAFEGUARDING: I will make sure that all models I will be using in this shoot are dressed appropriately for the shoot, and make sure that everything is checked over that could possibly put the model in danger. EQUIPMENT USE: The equipment i will be using will be checked over and made sure that is will not damage anyone or anything, i will make sure that the equipment that i will be using will not damage or effect the woods or nature we are going to be taking the pictures in.
CAMERA LOG Shot number DSC_0118.JPG Aperture: F/5 Shutter speed:1/60 ISO:200 Aesthetic considerations: I think the beauty of this photo are the colours, and the angle I have taken this photo interests me because it doesn’t have her face in it just focuses on the positioning of her with her hand holding her phone. Thoughts on shot: I like this photo its one of my favourites because I find the detail on this photo brings out the bright colouring and clarity of the photo.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0138.JPG Aperture: f/13 Shutter speed: 1/8 ISO: 200 Aesthetic considerations: I think the beauty of this photo is the positioning of the dog, I made sure that I had the camera close and was taking a number of photos when he was moving so that I was able to get some that were he was still. Thoughts on shot: I do like this photo because the darkness to the photo creates more detail to the dog and the objects around him.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0129.JPG Aperture: F/22 Shutter speed: 1/8 ISO: 200 Aesthetic considerations: I think the beauty in this photo is having the phone moving in the photo, I like this effect and what to develop this further in my photos, maybe having this pulling away from the face will make it look like the phone is sucking her attention. Thoughts on shot: I like this photo because of the shutter speed change I used in this, next time in my re-shoots I will be following of from this idea and developing it further, but focusing on the fact of the phone and the person.

Elliot Ewitt was born in 1928, in france before he moved to america in the 1930’s he studied photography and film-making at a city college in Los Angeles, he also studied at ‘The new School for social Research’. He is famous for his black and white photos which he focused on capturing people in everyday situations, he focused on a comical element of the photos, editing the owners of the dogs head out and putting the dogs head over it, to focus on the comical joke that owners look like there dogs. In the 1950’s was employed as a photographer in the united states army, he met photographers like Edward Steichen, Robert Capa and Roy Stryker, When looking through this work I noticed how similar all there work was, whereas when you look at Elliot his work is displayed as a comical way of looking at things. Elliot also produced films: beauty knows no pain (1971) glass-makers of heart Afghanistan (1977). What I like about Elliot work is that it explores the relationships between a person and the object. He has used photos of owners and there dogs which is a very literal way of looking at things, this would be a good starting point to my work, working out the literal possessions for people and then developing this.

Anne Harry’s was born in the UK in 1970, she lived and worked in London. Her work is very interesting because she creates all her work in one room, she has a room like a studio where she will create a surreal fiction, she will build her sets from scratch, at the start there will be nothing in the room, and she will create it all, she will construct by herself this empty room.
76
She will develop the interior down to the littlest detail making it as realistic as possible. The nature of her work withholds the experience of her locations she has created, she wanted to do this so that there is a relationship between the environment and our imagination, it allows the viewers mind to wonder, who lives in this place? Imagining the person, what do they do in here? Using possessions she creates a person to match it.

I looked at Anna’s work because she is one of my favourite fashion photographers, I look up to her massively because she is someone work I look up to and aspire for my work to look like hers. I wanted to include her work because with this theme I wanted to show a fashion photography aspect to it, because I find that with this theme yes I chose it, but including my style of fashion photography in it makes it a little more personal. I wanted to show through my photos there possessions but in a style of my own. I like how she frames her work and how she produces her work, I also love her she positions her models in the framing of the photo, she makes sure everything she wants I’m the photo is framed, I want to take into account how she creates and produces her work so when I am taking my own photos I can use these kind of ideas.

In class we produced a photos-hoot where we were experimenting with natural lighting. To do this we stuck a leaf/ or in my photo a stalk of some sort onto paper against a window, the aim was to create a silhouette I wanted to show the gradual effect from changing the shutter speed up , looking at my photos I can see that by moving the shutter speed up created the photo to become darker, this is because when the shutter speed takes the photo at 1/20th
1/20th To
1/200th

I managed to achieve this and create a silhouette of the stalk. To develop on I took a series of photos of the same image, changing the shutter speed from 1/20 to 1/200 increasing it up a number each photo. The picture will be lighter because the light is captured quicker, if its a longer shutter speed the light is going to be darker in the photo, by changing the shutter speed, but keeping the positioning and lighting the same enabled me to notice the difference I the photos.

PLANNING AND INTENT
PLANNING AND INTENT
AESTHETIC CONSIDERATIONS:
TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
TIME: The time i will be taking these photos photos are going to be in the middle of the dat round 12, this will allow me to get the best photos i can because these photos will be taken using natural lighting from the window outside. These siloutest will be produced by the leaf being placed on a plain piece of paper on a window infront of the light.
HEALTH AND SAFETY: When taking these photos i will ensure that all the equipment i will be using will be securley fixed so nothing would fall on anything, I need something to keep the camera in place making sure the tripod is tightly fixed to the camera will ensure that the camera wont fall.
PLACE: These pictures will be taken in a room, the room has many windows which are shining in the light, that we need for the photos.
SAFEGUARDING: In these photos i will be making sure that nothing will hurt or damage someone near me in the class room, making sure equipment and the piece of paper and leaf is surely stuck to the window this will avoid an accidents
VIEWPOINT: I will be taking these photos from the same viewpoint, this is so that why i vary the shutter speed whilst taking the photos, it allows us to see the variation in the different photos. Having it in the same position allows you to see more how when the shutter speed gets to 1/200 its complelty dark.
LIGHTING: I will be facing the light when taking the photos as the aim of is to create a silouete of the object thats infont of me. It will be natural lighting used in the room, directly from the windows in the room no other lighting will be on in the room.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this shoot is to experiment with shutter speed, this will widen my skills on the camera and help me when it comes to me taking my own photos, Also the aim was to create a sillouete by controlling the lighting and the camera, but to also show the graduation in shutter speed and to show how it effects the photo.
EQUIPMENT USE: As i will be using a camera when taking these photos and a tripod this means i need to make sure that the tripod and camera is correctly attatctched and wont fall off onto anyone or anything, also making sure the tripod legs are securley on the floor and wont fall over will reduce the fact it could fall over and hurt someone or break the camera.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0008.JPG Aperture: F/16 Shutter speed: 1/3 ISO: 200 Aesthetic considerations: I think this photo has an element of beauty as the leaf is dark where you cant see much but its still detailed you can see the detail of the leaf. Thoughts on shot: I like this photo because of the detail of the leaf its interesting to look at.
CAMERA LOG Shot numberDSC_0011.JPG Aperture: F/16 Shutter speed:1/50 ISO: 200 Aesthetic considerations: I think what is beautiful about this photo is the graduation of the silhouette, you see it so slowly getting darker which is making the silhouette stand out more. Thoughts on shot: I really like this photo because its very dark but the leaf is so much darker compared to the darkness surrounding it, I think this could be my favourite setting for shutter speed.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0012.JPG Aperture: F/16 Shutter speed: 1/60 ISO: 200 Aesthetic considerations: The fact that its almost black is what interested me about this photo, because its so nearly black but you can still make out what the photo consists off. Thoughts on shot: This photo has a good aspect of darkness in the photo which what interests me, but it the small areas of lighter which make the photo it kind of makes a pattern on the photo.
karen knorr-
belgravia These photos were a series that James Molison produced where he documentended through photos people that have a collection, a collection of objects that they keep.
This stood out to me bec ause it was very simlar to Karen Knorr but very different at the same time, the layout of the text underneath is interesting but i thourght the photos looked
more effective because they were black and white, but he has done this very well in colour, the colours of the objects reflect of the colours the person is wearing in the portrait
This series of work was aiming to express the class and power amongst the international and the wealth during the beginning of thatcherism in London during 1979. This town of Belgravia is a rich neighbourhood in London near Harrods. The artists parents lived there in this town and the first photos of the series is her mother and grandmother in the front living room. This work is there to represent the everyday privileged minority. In this work there is a combination of image and text the photographer wanted to show the meaning of the work between the image and text. Nor does the image or text illustrate each-other it then creates a third meaning. This work stood out to me because I liked how he had produced the photos on a white paper and wrote a sentence beneath, it interested me. http://karenknorr.com/photography/belgravia/
which makes it link well with both photos. This could be a good way to explore a different possession and focus on collectons, i like how his work turned out and would want to explore this idea further with my own work.

These photos were taken in a series of photos to explore the topic I had been looking at which was possessions when looking through different artists work I came across a photographer called James Mollison who took a series of photos
On the topic of collection, he had got a load of people together and had taken a picture of each of them separately and there collections separately he then put them together and displayed them and their possessions.
97
The model is looking away from the camera as well I wanted to do some photos where she wasn’t looking directly looking at the camera to vary up the different images I was producing.
When taking these photos it was in the evening due to less lighting I had to light up the room with overhead unnatural lighting, this effected the colouring of the photos as the photos and the colours in the image came out darker.
In these images the object of the chair has a lot of texture to it, the patterns of the fabric in the photo stand out due to the colouring being so bright.
The angle of the photo I have taken the image from makes me feel quite uneasy as I’m not directly in-front of the image I am focusing on.
VISUAL ELEMENTS The angle I had taken this photo was side on to the object I was focusing on, I thought it was interesting because the model was side on I wanted to emphasise the positioning of the model.

memory I asked the model to show me some of the photos she has kept from throughout her life, to not only look at collections but to also look at the object of pictures and to see whether objects bring back the memories. When looking through the photo.
The original idea for this shoot came from the photographer James Mollison who did a series of photos based around the idea of collectors, he got a load of people together who spent there time collecting specific objects it was a hobbies in a way.
These photos he has taken really stood out to me I really liked how these collections told a lot about the people collecting them it tells your more about the person this is what my aim was for my next shoot. I then came across the shoot that Hana Lenz has produced with a series of photos of the elderly women she looked after in a home, her aim of the shoot was to represent the loneliness and the difficulties of being an elderly women in this time.
With these photos I experimented with black and white edits as well as colour, I wanted to experiment with what looked better with the colouring, or whether the photos looked better with no colouring at all. Looking over these pictures I think having colour on the photos came out better when in colour, I think the colours of blue, orange/ red all stand out and looks good with each-other.
She wanted to show the realism of being an elderly women. When I came across these photos they really stood out to me, I liked how she produced a number of photos showing like a story through the photos. The story explaining the struggles she has to face in the day and the little things that make her sad and make her happy.

collection
I also looked at a different perception of collection, a collection of flowers she had placed in her living room, these were flowers given to her by her husband, these collection of flowers meant something to her, and i think the red stands out and works with the other colours in the photos.

12 collection shoot; summer photos
106
This shoot was to represent the number of objects to do with a person, a collection of objects, I chose a model that had been collecting miniature houses all her life, I found in interesting how she would go to different areas in the world and always buy a house to put in her cupboard she seem to know every house and where it came from, a simple object each telling such an interesting story. These photos are abstract, when taking these photos I used a digital camera. I varied the kind of angles I took the photo in to get a variation in different photos in the series. With this shoot I didn’t vary the settings on the camera as much as I should. As it was a dark lighting in the room, once I found the perfect setting I didn’t really want to change it because when I was changing around the settings the photos were coming out blurred, for my next shoot I will be taking the photos in daylight so that I can experiment with taking the different settings on the photos. I edited these photos on bridge and Photoshop, I edited some photos black and white and some enhanced the colouring to exaggerate the bright colours used in the photo, I think the colours worked well in the photos so I wanted to enhance these. What interests me most about these photos are the colours I have used in the photo, they take over the photo in a way. I think that these photos are effective because its exploring the idea of collection as my possession for a person, instead of focusing the shoot around one object there’s a collection of them, I wanted to explore the theme that James Mollison took photos of in one of his shoots. What doesn’t work so well in these photos is the lighting and the darkness to the photos, for next time in my re-shoots I will be trying to take the photos in daylight so I don’t have this problem next time. I think what’s worth remembering from producing these photos is how I learnt how when I’m older I will look back at the objects that I don’t really appreciate now but will bring back so many memories when I am older. This whole shoot was to explore an idea I came up with from my thoughts I had wrote down in my mind map on ideas when thinking about the theme people and possessions. When I first explored this topic I did think how straight forward the theme is, but further exploring the topic I have learnt so much about the theme. From this shoot I have explored a different way of looking at the theme, and looking at a collection of objects, also I learnt a different way of producing the photos similar to Hana Lenz in the idea of a story. For my re-shoots I will further develop my learning of the theme and look into different aspects of people and possessions.

AESTHETIC CONSIDERATIONS:
TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
TIME: I took these photos in the evening, this meant there was near to nothing of natural lighting, this meant that the photos where going to come out darker, having this in my mind I did experiment with not using flash but the photos that I used flash came out a lot nicer.
PLACE: This was taken in the models living room, placed right next to her collection.
VIEWPOINT: I mostly used my own viewpoint for the photos because I wanted to create a more documented style of work for this shoot, because that was what I was aiming for my work to look like.
LIGHTING: I used unnatural lighting in this, just an overhead lamp in the room to light up the area I was taking photos in.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this shoot was too show how I explored the topic of possession in a series of photos and explore a different technique of producing my photos using a more documented style of work.
HEALTH AND SAFETY: When taking these photos as she is older than my usual models i will be restricted by the amount of movement she will able to get in, to avoid her hurting herself i will be focusing the photos i will be taking in an area where she is able to be sat down.
SAFEGUARDING: Making sure the model i am using is correctly dressed. And to make sure that the oejcts and everything im including in the photos doesnt include anything that may harm the safeguarding of the model.
EQUIPMENT USE: The equipment i am using will be checked over before using a made sure that nothing will harm myself or the model when using the equipment.
CAMERA LOG
Shot number: DSC_0320.JPG Aperture: f/9.0 Shutter speed: 1/30 ISO: 200 Aesthetic considerations: I think what is beautiful about this photo is the positioning I was at to take this photo, I took this photo from the side of her to get a good positioning of the collection behind her and the model. Thoughts on shot: This photo was to capture her collection behind of and a portrait of her I wanted to explore the ways in which the photographers created there work but at the same time include my own style.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DCS_0332.JPG Aperture: f/6.0 Shutter speed: 1/20 ISO: 200 Aesthetic considerations: in this photo I find that the beauty of the model stands out more from the colouring that is around her it stands out. Thoughts on shot: This is one of the strongest out of the shoot that I will be using in the photos, I would want to further develop and edit to see what techniques I can do with the photo.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0338.JPG Aperture: f9 Shutter speed: 1/20 ISO: 200 Aesthetic considerations: I think this photo has an element of beauty from the angle I have taken the photo I like how it positions the model to the side of the screen next to her possession. Thoughts on shot: I like this photo because it captures both the model and the possession and also I have got the camera on the right settings to allow me to capture the perfect picture.
Were the style of my work inspired from: Hanna Lenz
Hana was born in Lubeck in 1986. These photos were called ‘at home with else’ She was looking after an elderly women and saw how lonely she’s at this age.
This is where my photo shoot was inspire by, I wanted to focus on collection but when I came across this photographer I wanted to use an elderly person I think the idea of collection is how long they have kept it for, and I think that using an older person shows how long they have kept a collection going. These photos are to represent the way old people live in their homes, she wanted to show the loneness of age but also the calmness and content it inherits. Her work I came across when looking through photographers to research on, her work really stood out to me because I like the style she of work she has produced, its kind of documentary but in photos, she has created a series of photos showing the struggles of being this age but then also not the struggles and what is around her.

What interests me about these photos is the textures of the sucked faces, the over exposure, gradual allows us to see the original dimensions of the face ‘It [places] the screen as an object of ‘mass subculture,’ alienating the relation to Our own body, and more generally to the physical world.
Also what I like that the pictures are quite disturbing, no one has ever used this kind of idea in there work, which makes it stand out compared to other work. I want to include this kind of idea into my work, showing how the technology of a phone can take over someone, be there main possession, and I want the possession to be taking over the photo like how he has done.

Experimenting with different apperture and shutter sp0pedd to get the same photo
changing all the settings on the camera allowed me to get the same photo but
After doing this experiment it has widened my knowledge in knowing how to use the camera, so when it comes to my next shoot I will be able to know how to experiment with different skills on the camera. It will be good to range my photos with different settings so that I can get the same photo because its all practise to help me with my re-shoots.
Aperture is the iris of the lens which controls the size of the aperture, the aperture is called the diaphragm. The purpose of this diaphragm is so it blocks or stops light with the exception of the light that goes through the aperture. This is shown through f numbers on a camera.
with different settings, this helped develop my camera skills

refraction
Refraction this is when taking a photo the light rays change path through one transparent object like a camera lens to the next. With these photos we had a pattern behind the photo and we took photos to try capture the refraction of the lens of the camera to glass bottle. We then varied the settings changing the aperture, shutter speed and ISO to experiment with different settings and how they have produced different photos.

PLANNING AND INTENT
AESTHETIC CONSIDERATIONS:
TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
TIME: I had taken these photos in the day where there was plenty of lighting and natural lighting, as it was in the middle of the day the light was at its brightest.
PLACE: I took these photos in the class room, behind a backdrop I had made, this class room has plenty of natural lighting from the amount of windows in the class room which was perfect lighting for the photos I was taking.
VIEWPOINT: I took this photo from the view point of looking at the glass vase I tried to keep it in the same position so when I was varying the ISO, SHUTTER SPEED and APERTURE I was able to see the difference in the photos.
LIGHTING: The lighting was bright in the room, the lighting in the photo was natural lighting from the sunlight through the window, all other lights in the room were turned off
PURPOSE: The purpose of this shoot was to experiment with refraction and experimenting with different camera settings to try experimenting with using different ISO, aperture and shutter speed, this will help me with my overall skills with the camera.
HEALTH AND SAFETY: When taking these photos I will make sure the water and the camera is away from each-other, and that any water doesn’t spill anyway near equipment, to make sure this doesn’t happen I will put the water in the vase away from the class room and then have no equipment near it until it is placed down and securely checked before taking photos of it.
SAFEGUARDING: I have no models in the photos but I will make sure that the safeguarding of people around me is not in harm, I will make sure there is no equipment or anything I’m using that could harm my class mates.
EQUIPMENT USE: I am using a camera and water so my main priority is to make sure the equipment is securely set up and wont fall down on anyone or anything and wont fall and come near to the water or vase I’m using in the photo.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0153.JPG Aperture: F/3.5 Shutter speed: 1/15 ISO: 200 Aesthetic considerations: I think the beauty of this photo is the way the pattern behind the photo is coming through the glass, the glass has expanded the pattern which I really like. Thoughts on shot: This shot is one of my strongest because I like the colouring and the patterns being expanded through the glass
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0048.JPG Aperture: F.35 Shutter speed 1/5 ISO: 200 Aesthetic considerations: The beauty of this photo is the background being out of focus but the patterns in the vase are coming out. Thoughts on shot: This shot is also one of my favourites because I like how the pattern is coming out of the photo and grabbing my attention.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0012.JPG Aperture: F/22 Shutter speed: 6 ISO: 400 Aesthetic considerations/ Thoughts on shot : I think the beauty of this photo is the positioning of it, and how in focus it is, the background is slightly blurred but the focus and the patterns on the vase almost jumps out at me when I look at this photo.
mind map on new ideas
134
This was a mind map I had created after doing my shoots for the first part of the topic, for the first part of the topic I had looked at the literal possessions I had seen on a person, someone possessions giving an indication into what there interested in, I looked at collections of loads of possessions, I looked at a taxi man his possessions making him money and a job. The aim of this mind map was to look over what I had already created and to look what I could look into the next part of the topic, focusing on a deeper look into possessions with my re-shoots. On this mind map you can see I have looked at the actual definition of a posession and what it means, I have planned out some shoots I can look at, some photographers work which could inspire the style of my work, I just basically wrote ideas that were going on in my head when thinking of the topic of possession and people and this is what I came up with, leading on from this I w9ll be taking more photos on the ideas I came up with in this mind map.
135
RE SHOOTS
137
The sentiments of possession as seen through the lens
Or somewhere near them. Now it amazes me how important this one possession is, its so important in someone life and its a
I noticed how much my sister would always have her phone in her hand its the one possession which I see everyone using, even if there not using it they will have it in there hand
Possession almost everyone has which I find so interesting, it connects everyone together, through a simple little box, I wanted to emphasise how we are sucked in from the phone, we are al stuck on them, everything we do we depend so much on it. I wanted to show how the attention of the model is so focused around the phone and this is her possession.
138
139
140
141
These photos were influenced from the photographer Antoine Geiger, he did a series of photos on the theme of the phone and technology, and he edited the photos with a blurring tool to make it seem like the faces on the person using the phone was getting sucked into the phone, I used this kind of idea into my work, but I used the idea of shutter speed to make the phone seem like its sucking the attention of the person using the phone, I then further developed my idea on the computer by editing the photos with collage to mimic the idea of the phone grabbing her attention but we can see the collage connecting the face to the phone.
142
145
With the photos i was taking i got the model to slowly move her hand away from her ear, doing this slowly and then changing the shutter speed to 1/50 then produced a photo where you can see the phone moving it makes it look blurred and i thourght of this idea from when reseaching into Antonie’s photos i saw how he edited the blur to look as if the face of the model was sucked into the phone, i wanted to create this without editing it and just producing it in the photo. I then edited the photos with collarge to add my own idea with my photos, i would like to develop this kind of image with collarge maybe manually stitch over it to mimic this.
Visual element: lighting in this photo was natural lighting, the window was on the left of the model it has created a shadow effect around the model which I really like about this photo. The object of the phone rapped around the model was to indicate how it is a part of the model, its a part of her body, I wanted to make this obvious in the photo.
In this photo the focus of this is the phone, I have made it obvious by her not looking at me but just focusing her attention on her phone is to show that there is no interaction with the camera all her attention is around the phone and the phone only to make the point of the shoot I positioned the model like this.
146
The pictures above are the ones I was experimenting on, the whole point of these was to experiment with the idea of shutter speed and making the photo seem as its sucking the attention from the model.
I framed this photo by framing just the model, as she is the main focus in the photo I made sure certain areas were in the photo but I wanted there to be the phone in the centre of the photo.
These two photos I edited with different colouring I wanted to see what photo looked better when it came out, when looking at these I found that the one with more colour I do prefer, it brings out more depth into the photo.
interpreatation- Antonie Geigers work
This photographer Antonie Geiger focuses his photography around the idea of technology and produces photos around the idea of the population being sucked in by this technology and the phones they have on them. This idea stood out to me when i was thinking of what to photograph I was sat with my sister and said to her god you never put that thing down, it stood out to me that actually no one does, its a possession that everyone has and no one can live without it.
I then interpreted his work, with some of the photos I had taken of my sister and her phone, developing on with this I created a whole shoot around this idea, and experimented with my own ideas when editing the photos.
I experimented with collage, and also used settings on the camera to play around with ideas of shutter speed creating this blur effect on the photo.
evaluation
Over the process of this shoot I think I have developed my learning and understanding of this topic a lot more than I had already known. I had a basic idea of people and possessions and now I’m looking more into the topic, I want to explore more into the topic of phones being a possessions because it interests me so much how this simple object sucks in so many people, and so many people in the world all have this possession in some way, it connects everyone, and its not just a possession to someone its a possession that almost everyone has which does interest me. In these photos I have tried to experiment with my own ideas of editing on the photo and also tired ways of producing the blurred effect Antonie created with the camera settings by changing the shutter speed to 1/50 it allowed me to do this and produce the perfect shutter speed for the effect I wanted to produce. For these photos I used a cannon camera, and I was changing up and down the shutter speed to see what was the perfect one to create the blur effect. I also edited on the photos using Photoshop, with the quick selection tool it able me to insert a pattern into the photo and create my own design on the photo. I wanted to experiment with different edits with these photos, I edited some photos black and white, some in colour just to see what ones came out better, I do this so when it comes to my final piece I will either choose a series of black and white photos or colour, so I can see what I prefer and what’s better to work with. The photo that strikes me the most about this series of photos is the photo to the left, her positioning is loud and catches my eye, I have also edited over it showing lines and collage like the lines are sucking the model into the phone. I would like to develop this idea further into my photography maybe with stitch manually, also my next shoot it inspired me to take the idea further with the phone being a part of the body, attached to the model, I could have wire rapping round the phone and the hand of the model.

AESTHETIC CONSIDERATIONS:
TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
TIME: I will be taking these photos in the middle of the day where the light is at its brightest
HEALTH AND SAFETY: I will make sure that the camera is fixed onto the camera stand correctly and wont fall onto anything on anyone which could harm someone. I will make sure that all wires and water are out of the way, also make sure the seat the model is positioned on wont break and hurt the model whilst being placed on it.
in my room.
PLACE: I will be taking these photos in my bedroom, on a chair with a simple background.
VIEWPOINT: The view point I will be taking these photos at positioned in-front of the model, I would like to vary the different viewpoints and angles I put myself when taking photos because it will show a vary in the photos I take. LIGHTING: The lighting will be natural lighting from the sunlight shining in from the window, this is because my room has a lot of lighting from the large window so there is no need for my lighting. PURPOSE: The purpose of this shoot is to show the idea behind the phone being the possession she just cant live with out, I want the photos to make the audience feel as if she’s not connecting with them, she wont be looking at the camera to emphasise the fact of her being so focused on what’s going on with her phone.
SAFEGUARDING: I will make sure before the shoot and photos are taken that the model is wearing correct clothing which isn’t revealing and she wont be using anything that could offend anyone looking at the photos.
EQUIPMENT USE: I will make sure all equipment is checked over before being used, and all equipment is correctly set up, all wires out of the way so no one can trip up and hurt them-self.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0066.JPG Aperture: F18 Shutter speed: 1/8 ISO: 200 Aesthetic considerations: The shadow around the model highlights the models positioning which the lighting created. Thoughts on shot: This shot interests me because the phone moving away has created a blue effect on the photo which stands out.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0069.JPG Aperture: F20 Shutter speed: 1/6 ISO: 400 Aesthetic considerations: The simplistic side of the photo brings out the beauty, the simple background and model sat on the chair is my favourite part to this photo. Thoughts on shot: This photo is one of my favourites from the shoot because it was one where the shutter speed on the camera captured the movement of the model moving the phone.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0087.JPG Aperture: F22 Shutter speed: 1.3 ISO: 600 Aesthetic considerations: The positioning of the model stands out its different to the others and you can see the focus of the phone more on this photo. Thoughts on shot: This photo was to show off the phone wire rapped around the leg of the model, I wanted that to emphasise the idea of her not be able to live without the phone.

I completed this shoot in class to play around with shutter speed, we started with a shutter speed of 1.3 and then ended with 1/1000. This helped me explore further with how to use shutter speed on moving images, these photos were hung up and being blown by a fan, this meant that it was harder to take the photos and be able to focus the camera on the images, highering the number of shutter speed allowed the camera to produce a clear photo and was able to focus on the object infront.
Experimenting with ideas- hand rapped round phone These photos were taken to explore the idea i created in my previous shoot were the phone wire was rapped around the models leg, like it was a part of her, emphasising the idea of not being able to be apart from the phone.
With this shoot I took a models hand an rapped the wire around the phone and took photos of it, The whole idea of this shoot was to emphaise the idea i had origionally but to make it more clear through my work.
These photos came out really good and I am very pleased with how they look, i experimented with different kinds of shots some being close up on the phone and the hand and then some being further away with the model actually using it. When editing these photos on photoshop I enhanced the clarity on photo because i think the detail on the photo needed to be enhanced.
Imus, ipis maxim fuga. Nequibus esto to beatur, officid eatiorrum destius plaborro to ma volum utectem rae sum eat est, cus aut voluptur, optatis a sit est et
The lighting for this camera is a lot darker but i think its needed as the background is black to some of the photos and the light was shining over just the hand which created shadow over the hand and it highlighted areas of the photo.
This idea is something I would like to devlop furhter into my shoots, the idea of the phone being the focus on the shoot. The clarity being ehnaced adds a rough texture to the photos which stands out on all off them.

Evaluation shoot- attatchement of phone The purpose of this shoot
Evaluation shoot- attatchement of phone
was to show the development of my ideas from the previous shoot of focusing on the idea of the phone being attached to her a part of her, I wanted to emphasise this even more by physically attaching the phone to the hand of the model and then taking photos of this. This shoot turned out well I really liked the detail on the photos, and I liked the different angles that were used in the shoot I tried to vary it up to get different angles of the phone in the hand. My favourite thing about this shoot it the idea behind it, when doing my shoot with the phone and having the phone wire rapped around the leg it gave me the idea to use the wire of a phone to rap it round the persons hand to emphasise the idea I am trying to put across in the photos I have taken. I didn’t really know how these would turn out but I really like how the different photos have came out the photos taken from far away in black and white stand out to me, the model brings to the photo such deep emotion, and I like the positioning of the model and how she is holding the phone, it looks loud and it stands out that the phone is the main focus of the shoot.

TIME: these photos will be taken in the middle of the day
HEALTH AND SAFETY: I will make sure that all equipment is securely placed and wont harm or hurt anyone, also making sure that any phone or wire attached to the model is not working so there isn’t a chance of the model getting hurt.
PLACE: These photos will be taken in my bedroom where there was a lot of natural lighting coming through the window from the sun
VIEWPOINT: The viewpoint will be my view of the model, I will be taking the photos from what I am looking at.
LIGHTING: Natural lighting coming from the window.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this shoot is to show the development of ideas from my first shoot with my sister and her phone and developing the idea with an experiment of actually showing the phone attached to the model.
SAFEGUARDING: I will make sure that anything worn by the model is appropriate
EQUIPMENT USE: I will make sure the equipment and wires are all out of the way of the model and myself so that there is less of a risk of someone falling over , also I will make sure that all equipment being held by the model is checked over and not working so that it wont hurt the model when they are holding it,
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0223.JPG Aperture F16 Shutter speed: 1/100 ISO:200 The beauty of this photo is the detail into the wire and the look of it rapped round the phone, its different. I wanted this photo to show the idea of the phone being a part of the body and it emphasising the idea of the phone being attached to her and I think it does represent this point that I’m trying to make.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0237.JPG Aperture: F25 Shutter speed: 1/3 ISO: 400 This shot is one of my favourites because I used a higher aperture and got the model to play around and move her hand to experiment with how it looks as in my shoots I have used a lot of shutter speed I wanted to experiment more with this shoot. This shot looks 3D in a way, I really like this photo it jumps out at me.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0250.JPG Aperture: F9 Shutter speed: 1/4 ISO: 400 This shot is one of my favourites because I like the big positioning the model is in, its exaggerated which stands out to me and the big position of her phone being out and her whole body is positioned towards it does represent how much she is focused on the object.

I experimented with some different techniques in the dark room, this is the technique of time strip, we did this by exposing the photos at different times creating a graduation of colour in the same photo.

This was not strong or weak it was in the middle, this photo came out quite well, if i was going to expose a photo i would use a medium exposure so that the photos details wouldnt come out to dakr or too light

process: 1 enlarger head on column, stop the lens down a couple of stops to the optimum aperture, usually around f/5.6. Focus the negative bellow. 2 Then switch off the room light and turn on the safelight 3 Pull out a sheet of printing paper and cut it into smaller pieces. A 10x8in can be cut into four pieces. Keep one piece out and place the others back in the light tight packing. 4 Place the sheet on the baseboard in a suitable place on the print. Try picking a spot where there’s a good range of tones to assess when you’ve made the test strip. Switch the enlarger on and move the card to reveal a strip about one fifth of the area of the paper. Hold steady for three seconds and move the card to reveal another fifth of the paper and hold for three seconds. The first strip has now received six seconds. Repeat. Once finished place into developing liquid and wait for the photo to develop.
Can someone be another persons possession?
Relationships was an idea I had come up with when thinking about ideas on my mind map, I thought about the topic people and possessions and thought about how could someone be a possession of someone else? When you think of an possession you automatically thinking of an object, but when looking more
Deeply into it, a person could be owned by someone else, marriage? My parents are married and does that mean there each-others possession, I
170
Wanted to photograph this idea and take pictures of naturally how they act towards each-other, The plan was to put them in the same room and take a number of photos whilst sat next to each-other, as they new they were being photographed they obviously new and didn’t act completely how they would normally act but it was aiming to be a series of photos not being told what to do or how to be positioned.
171
These photos were taken in the middle of the day the light source was the natural sunlight coming through the window to the left of the models. It created a lovely shadow around the models, and created a lot of light
shining onto the models face, which created a lot of detail on the face and the models, it brings out a natural clarity to the photos. As I saw there was a lot of depth and clarity to the photos I wanted to edit some in black
and white to see how they turned out, from looking at the black and white ones compared to the colour I found that I preferred the black and white ones, I found that they had more depth and emotion to the photos.
Possession
I took this photos from looking at the models the camera was looking front on to the models I did experiment with the camera being at different levels but found that the strongest photos I had taken were at eye level.
173
These photos was a style of work I found really expressed the kind of work I want to produce its simplistic but there is so much feeling in the photo, the emotion between the models does stand out which I like. The focus of this photo is the emotion and relationship between the models, and to photograph the idea of someone being another persons possession and I wanted to display this through the series of photographs I produced.
EVALUATION This shoots aim was to look at how a possession doesn’t just have to be an object but it can also be a person, marriage could mean that you are now owned by each-other, I’m a possession of my parents, but then my best-friend is also a possession of me. This widened my knowledge and helped with me further my ideas and from my second mind map I looked more deeply into the topic and came across this idea of not just having an object as a possession but a person, I think its quite an interesting an different way of looking at the topic. These photos have came out really well and some of the photos are some of my favourite photos I have taken so far. This photo was my favourite because there is so much emotion too it, the model on the left is looking at her, and the model to the right is looking away it makes you wonder why? Her positioning of her turning away makes you wonder how she is feeling. I then went on to editing this photo black and white because I think it adds more depth to the photo, also I went onto edit this over with shapes because I wanted to experiment with different technique ideas over the photos.

LIGHTING: The lighting used was natural lighting coming from the window
PURPOSE: The purpose of this shoot was to represent how a person could be another persons possession.
EQUIPMENT USE: I will check over equipment and make sure that all equipment being used wont harm anyone, check that wires are hidden away lowering the risk of someone falling over them.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0274.JPG Aperture: F9 Shutter speed: 1/5 ISO: 200 This shot shows the strong emotion between the models, there looking away from the camera and looking at each-other they look almost like there talking but without any words being said.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0285.JPG Aperture Shutter speed ISO This shot interests me because there is a different positioning to the models one is looking away and the other model is looking down there not looking at the camera but there not looking at each-other. If I was someone else looking at the photo and just saw this photo I would question how they were acting to how they were feeling.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0291.JPG Aperture Shutter speed ISO This shot is very different to the other photos i took it differentl because i wanted to experiment with different angles i wanted to show the relationship more clearly and have them symetric to eachother to represent that they are as one.
Edward Steichen Was born on the 27th of march 1879. He lived in Luxembourgian, he was an American photographer and painted, he was an art gallery and museum curator. He created some amazing pieces which we study even to this day. His work really interested me how he used pattern and objects to create shapes, then with lighting create
Edward Steichen
amazing shadows that exaggerate the shapes he used in his photo. My favourite piece of his was the piece he made with sugar cubes to create this he got a number of sugar cubes on a paper card and placed them in any order, he then placed the light from different directions had some light coming from the left corner of the sugar
cubes then he would have some light coming from on-top of the sugar and then the shadows would create a nice pattern he would photograph. In his work its all about lighting I want to try my own shoot with focusing more on lighting to improve the shoot.

PLACE: I will be taking these photos on a table in a room this room will be dark to allow me to get the full effect of the shadows.
VIEWPOINT: The viewpoint I will be taking these photos at are from on-top of the sugar cubes looking down at them.
LIGHTING: The source of lighting will be a lamp, a lamp will be shining directly next to the sugar cubes to create a dark shadow.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this shoot was to widen and help me develop the skills of creating shadows in my work and controlling lighting.
HEALTH AND SAFETY: I will ensure all equipment will be carefully put together and that everything the shoot consists of will nit harm or injure anyone

EQUIPMENT USE: I will make sure that all wires are kept out of the way and all cameras are stood up right and correctly attached to the tripod, also I will ensure the source of light being used in the shoot is checked before being used.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC1178.JPG Aperture: F6 Shutter speed: 1/5 ISO: 200 This shot is one of the best out of all of them, it captured the shot of the shadows and it outlines the shape of the cubes which I like.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC1184.JPG Aperture: F9 Shutter speed: 1/16 ISO:? 400 This shot captured to much of the light I think I placed the light to close to the sugar cubes so it wasn’t as strong as a picture I hoped.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC1196.JPG Aperture: F8 Shutter speed: 1/17 ISO: 200 This one I like because the shadows aren’t as exaggerate as the others but there is a small outline around the cubes highlighting round the shape.
The purpose of this shoot was to experiment with trails of light, to produce this shoot I went around school with my camera and
These photos have came out really well, the lights almost look like pieces of string or wire.
looked for places where there was lights, these photos were from a vending machine in the cafe, when taking the photo I would have the aperture at a higher Number and the shutter speed at a low number so that it will create time between I take the photo and it captures for the light trails to be captured, I wanted to experiment with this because for my next shoot I wanted to use light trails to show the connection of the person and the phone in their hand, I want to develop with the idea of the phone and how people cant live without them.
poetry in motion
and then if I slow down the shutter speed this will allow me to capture the light trail going through and around the people I am taking the photo of.

These photos were my favourite I had taken the colours the red in-front of the yellow really stands out. The photo almost looks like string swirling around on the photo. This could be a good way of showing the technology the electricity running through people around them , we cant see it but in a camera once captured we can, I could take some photos of a few models holding the phone moving the phone around with a light on

TIME: I will be taking these photo’s in the middle of the day, the light will be bright which could interferer with the capturing of light trails but I will try.
PLACE: I will be taking these photos in a mixture of places around the school
VIEWPOINT: I will be using different view points, and different angles to experiment with different ways I can capture the light trails.
LIGHTING: I will have no control over the lighting as the photos will be taken around the school.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this shoot is to practise how to capture the trail of light with the camera so I know what to do for my next shoot.
HEALTH AND SAFETY: I will make sure that the camera and equipment being used for the shoot will not harm or hurt anyone near.
SAFEGUARDING: No models being used in this shoot
EQUIPMENT USE: I will make sure that all equipment being used for this shoot will be checked over also make sure that all wires are kept away and wont cause a risk of anyone falling over them and hurting them.

TECHNIQUES combinding layers in photoshop
With these photos I used a series of overlaying another photo on-top and gradually having it coming through in different ways, I did this digitally on Photoshop. I like how this experimentation has worked out, because threes a different range of collage coming in all places of the photo, I also like the two photos of her holding the phone in different ways it’s expressing to the viewer how she has always got this possession on her it exaggerates the idea of her not being able to live without it. The colours also stand out to me
1. stitching into photos With these photos. I also experimented with stitching over these photos. I stitched into the photo in random places to try and strongish the image not completely but some to see how it came out.

3. drawing/collage into photos
8.joiner- David Hockney
I looked at work of David Hockney who creates a series of joiners of the same photo, When looking through his work I decided to try my own joiner with my own photos as a technique to experiment with. This was how it came out, I used several copies of the same shoot but different photos, I then stuck them together making a photo that will look the same, as you can see the face and parts are different but certain areas like the body have stayed the same just have different levels to them. I also tried the technique of drawing, I drew over the pictures of dog and the girl model, I wrote words around the photos, well I asked the model how she was feeling when sat there and wrote these words around her. I also experimented with cutting and sticking card over the picture to disorientate the image.
These images are from the photo I cut out certain areas of the photo and replaced them with a different photo of mine, with this photo I replaced areas with photos from when I took picture of the sugar cubes.
7. cutting out sections of photos and replacing them
Evaluation of techniques
I tried and experimented with a se ries of photos I have taken so far in my shoots, I took some and researched into some different techniques photographers have done and also came up with a few of my own techniques, I then experimented with different techniques on different photos, this will help me when coming to my final piece and it will allow me to know what I can manually edit over the photos to change and make them stronger. Maybe when it comes to my final piece and I have my photos I can make a joiner or replace certain areas of the photo with a different photo.

tom hunter- squatters
Tom hunter saw this image that was taken in 1659 and made his own interpretation of it, when he saw this image he wondered what letter she could be reading, is it a love letter? Is it something else L: Tom Hunter | Woman Reading Possession Order, Cibachrome print, 1997 R: Johannes Vermeer | Girl Reading a Letter at an Open Window (detail), oil on canvas, c. 1659, Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister, Staatliche Kunstsammlungen Dresden, Germany
He then went on to interpret-ate his own way of the letter and created his own photo, he represented the image as the women is getting a letter saying she needs to leave the house, he replaced the apples with a baby.
I looked at this photographer because it interested me how he had changed some possessions and reinterpreted them in his own way.
dark room pinhole photography
TIME STRIP EXPERIMENTING
These photos were taken from a coke can, this is called pin hole photography. To create these images we got a coke can we pierced a whole in it had a lid around the top of the can and where the whole was so when we went
EDITED I then went on to edit the image and turn it into a negative, when turned into a negative it allowed me to see more detail into the photo, and I was able to see the detail I could before. These photos are a technique I could use when coming to my final piece, I could capture an image of someone holding there possession but as the photos aren’t as detailed there would just be an outline of the person and the object they would be holding this is something I could consider when coming to final piece ideas.
to take the photo we were able to remove the lid for how long we wanted and expose the light to the photo paper, once capturing the image we closed the lid and developed these photos in the dark room.
When taking the photos I varied in the time when leaving it exposed because the sunlight would change and it was hard to know how it would turn out because we were unable to see.

Nomophobia is a proposed name for the phobia (intense, irrational fear) of being out of mobile phone contact. It is, however, arguable that the word "phobia" is misused and that in the majority of cases it is another form of anxiety disorder.
207
This shoot was based on the idea which developed after doing the shoot with my sister and using shutter speed to show the movement of the phone which was to interpretate the idea I got from looking at Antonie Geiger’s work. I wanted to experiment with shutter speed and light trails to try different ideas of showing the phone and the technology sucking the attention of the model.
209
To produce these series of Photoshop I had the model sit there, In the room it was completely dark accept from the light she had on her phone, I then adjusted the camera to F9, 1/5 SHUTTER SPEED, ISO 200, from looking at different shoots where I used shutter speed I realised that these settings were the best to capture the movement of the phone moving, especially when working in the dark I found that these settings enabled me to capture the light trails.
211
I wanted to experiment with different light trails, so I experimented with a simple light coming from the back of the frame and shining at the direction of the camera. Then also experimented with different coloured lights coming from the phone shining at different directions I wanted to see what had looked better and also what I could do with capturing different light trails.
Red- light trails I did this by the model holding her hand over the light and moving it.
215
These photos are the photos I created from using different colours coming out of the phone screen, these photos were done to exaggerate the movement of the phone.
The source of lighting used in these photos was nothing, there was no over head lighting, the blind blocked out the light coming in from the window, the only lighting being used was the light coming from the phone. The light from the phone was being moved in different positions for me to experiment with different ways and directions the lights could be coming from, some lights could be looking like there bouncing off each-other, maybe trapping the model representing the technology
trapping the model. The aim was to create different shapes with the solid colour of the lights coming from the phone. The lights coming from the phone are harsh and do stand out to the eye of whoever is looking through the photos, it does look good how the phone lights have changed through the shoot
217
What I liked about these photos there is no shadows, there’s complete darkness but the lights of the phone is lighting up the model holding the phone.
The texture to some of the photos is rough, the lights have created shapes and patterns which has created texture to the photo, there’s loads of different lines and patterns to the photo.
Angle of view: These photos were taken at different angles so that I could experiment with what angles seemed to look the best and bring out the best angle to see the light trails in the photo, I found that the photos that came out the best had the angle of view which was staring straight at the camera at eye level with the model. The trail of light stands out more at this angle and I liked how it covered the face slightly.
219
Experimenting
more with the idea of capturing the phone
After my last shoot I had seen that I preferred the light trails of the simple light from the back of the phone, after editing and looking through the shoot I noticed I didn’t take enough photos using this technique so I decided to take more photos of the
same kind of idea but I wanted to use more models instead of just using one. I found that just using one model doesn’t show the idea enough that our generation is so hooked into technology and social media.
you are unable to see, which found it harder but once I had one alright shot I stuck to these settings on the camera and stuck to the same positioning of the camera. So with having this in mind, I got 3 models together and used the same kind of idea, had the back light on and had them moving the phone
In different directions so that I could capture the different light frames, with these photos because it was pitch black its hard to know how the photos are going to turn out because
221
12 experimenting with lights going around the model.
I did change the settings on the camera throughout the shoot so I could see what settings created different photos, I can see from looking at different photos that some light trails are softer and some are sharper to look at. There was no lighting when taking these photos, I took these photos all in pitch black the only light source which was lighting up the photos was the light from the phone, which was creating the light trails. The light trails creates a sharp focus to look at when looking through all the photos, the sharpness of the light brings out the focus around the light, there is less focus on the model but more of a focus around the shapes and lines of the lights created by the model.
When choosing the framing of the photograph I wanted nothing else in the photo but the light and I wanted the light to try frame and fill up the frame of the photo, when directing the model I told them to make different shapes with there phone, then I also had another model behind them making an outline around the model, the idea behind this was to represent the idea of the phone always being around you, were all trapped in a way.
225
evaluation
This shoot was to help me experiment different ideas I had in my head and to put them into a shoot, the idea was developing from the idea I had with my shoot I did with my model and her phone, I used shutter speed to interpret the work Antonie Geiger produced for his series of photos of ‘the technology sucking the attention of the nation’ I wanted to develop from this with using light trails and in dark room, instead of a daylight shoot. I wanted to re-create the idea of being attached to the phone, the idea I have used of lines and objects attaching the model to the phone, but instead using light trails to create this. Its almost like you cant see the technology taking over unless you take a picture of it, you can see the light surrounding the people like the technology is surrounding them. These photos came out very well and it has helped me with developing my ideas, maybe instead of light trails I could edit lines and patterns into the photos on Photoshop to interpret these lines.

AESTHETIC CONSIDERATIONS:
TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
TIME: I will be taking these photos at evening time so that there is less light coming through from the blind, so this will allow be to get my room in complete darkness.
HEALTH AND SAFETY: I will make sure that the area I am taking the photos in is all safe, and as its in the dark I will make sure that before turning the lights of the models are positioned and the camera also so when the lights turn off there wont be a risk of someone not being able to see and fall over something.
PLACE: I will be taking the photos in my bedroom, where it has a black backdrop. SAFEGUARDING: I will make sure all models are appropriate clothed VIEWPOINT: I will be taking these photos looking directly at the models, having the camera placed on a tripod directly in-front of where the different models will be placed.
LIGHTING: There will be no source of lighting up where I will be taking the photos, the room will be pitch black with only the light from the phone lighting the area where the photos will be taken up.
PURPOSE: The purpose of the shoot is to experiment with different light trails, and to develop from the idea of phone movement into light trails representing the sucking attention of the models.
EQUIPMENT USE: I will also check over equipment and check that all equipment wont put anyone in risk of being hurt, also check that all wires are out of way and wont cause anyone to trip up.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0485.JPG Aperture F9 Shutter speed 1/5 ISO: 200 This photo is one of my favourites from the shoot because I really liked how the patterns in the lights stood out, the face of the model is slightly over taken by the phone in front of her face and the lights creates more of an interesting factor to the photo.
CAMERA LOG Shot number:DSC_0033.JPG Aperture: F14 Shutter speed: 4 ISO: 200 This photo stood out to me because I got one of the models to not cover his hand over the light and to move it instead of swirling the light but move it up and down away from his face, I really liked this kind of trail of light it was different to the others.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0024.JPG Aperture: F22 Shutter speed: 4 ISO: 200 This is also one of the favourites from this shoot because the different colours of the light trails stood out to me, I really liked how the light going around him was highlighting the same of him, highlighting in away.

I sat there taking a series of photos one after another, not focusing on anyone in particular but the crowd of people rushing and running to the places they needed to be. I started to notice that the most common object in the hand
These photos was part of an experiment shoot, I wanted to go out an investigate how people that are unaware they are being photographed act. I wanted to see what possessions people carried on a day to day basis what is most important to them. So to complete this shoot I travelled to London which is a very busy town, and I sat in areas where I knew will be filled with people these photos were taken in a train station.
Was a phone, no one was interacting with each-other they were just all positioned with there phone in there hand so sucked into it, they weren’t looking where they were going all there attention was on there phone.
I found this amusing to watch, how this simple object is used by almost everyone, and it was first there to help connect people to each-other but its done almost the opposite, there’s hardly any interaction with people unless its a
poke on facebook, or a reminder that its someone birthday so you post on there wall wishing them well, Antonie Geiger represented this idea through manipulation of the face, I want to do something similar.
When taking the photos I varied around the settings on the camera so I was able to know what camera setting was the one where I was able to catch the movement of the person, playing around with different shutter speeds allowed me to get the perfect one where I was able to get the perfect set of photos.
This photo was taken of a man on his phone, I then went on to edit this photo will replacing the man with collage from filling in the shapes I selected on Photoshop, I did this so that when looking at the photo you know what the photo is but
you cant entirely see it, from the shape of the man and the positioning you know he’s on the phone but you cant see it.

These photos were taken on a side of a bust street, I had placed myself sat down and had people walking past I wanted to wait a take photos when someone had there phone in there hand, this was surprisingly almost everyone that had walked past me. I took this photos from sat on a bench this meant that the people walking past were the people I was capturing, this meant that the angle of view the pictures came out was from the side. Lighting was natural because the shoot was set outside. I tried to keep the people in sharp focus but it became hard because they were moving past me so fast this meant that if I lowered the capture to 9, and kept the shutter speed at 1/30 I was able to capture the focus of the person but capture the movement.
evaluation
The purpose of this shoot was to find out how high the use of phones are everywhere not just with my friends, before I had taken photos of just models with there phones because I saw how much my friends were using them, but I wanted to go out and look at whether the use of them is high everywhere, from looking at this shoot and going out there myself I have come to the conclusion that the use of mobile phones is sucking the attention of the nation. This shoot was very successful because I really liked the style of this work, and liked how it turned out, but I want to develop with this idea further maybe for my next shoot I will take photos of different models all being connected with some technique I will place on the photos, in my next shoot I will be experimenting with a different kind of camera, using a film camera, this will be a lot harder but I want to create different styles for my work.

TIME: The time I will be taking these photos will be day time, I the middle of the day this will give me the best natural lighting.
HEALTH AND SAFETY: I will make sure that the area I will be taking the photos are safe for me to sit down and take the photos at. Also making sure that I am not taking photos of one specific person but the crowd in general.
PLACE: I will be taking the photos in London Waterloo train station, also on streets around London.
VIEWPOINT: I will be taking the photos with different view points, some from above and looking over the crowd, and some from beside them side on from the models walking by.
LIGHTING: I have no control on lighting on this shoot as the photos will be taken outside using natural lighting.
PURPOSE: The purpose of this shoot is to investigate how much people use there phone, to investigate also how people act when they don’t know there being photographed.
SAFEGUARDING: Also making sure that anyone photographed is wearing appropriate clothing, also anyone photographed not showing there face entirely .
EQUIPMENT USE: All equipment being used will be checked over before being used and also no wires of anything sticking out for someone to trip up over.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0126.JPG Aperture: F5 Shutter speed: 1/6 ISO: 200 This photo I liked because the colours in the background and the positioning of the person walking by stands out its big which I liked when looking through the photos.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0131.JPG Aperture: F9 Shutter speed: 1/30 ISO: 200 This photo was one of my favourites because I liked how the background and the movement of the people walking by was blurry but also features stood out to me and there’s a lot of focus on certain areas.
CAMERA LOG Shot number: DSC_0057.JPG Aperture: F11 Shutter speed: 1/6 ISO: 400 This photo was one of the favourites front the shoot because in a crowd of people you can see the amount of people holding there phone, and you can see the rushing of the people.
When I came to choosing my theme this theme stood out to me because it was so simple, could this be someone’s possession, what makes it someone’s though, I wanted to look into the relationship of someone and there possession, could a person be someone’s possession, I wanted to look into deeper into the persons possession. I wanted to look into what was a possession people would mostly have on them. I started from taking photos of literal possessions , then I followed on exploring different ideas looking at someone’s hobby as being there possession, someone collecting I took pictures of a lady and her collection. I then moved on to relationships people being a possession, I then followed on with the idea of the phone being the most common possession, this idea developed from me taking photos of people and realising that people constantly have the object of a phone in their hands, it started to come more to my attention because I sat there one time on the street looking at people rushing and walking and almost everyone was in connection with their phone, either holding, using it, listening to it, it’s a possession that connects people and almost everyone has, I find that so interesting how a simple object is so addictive and how no one can live without it. I have then gone on to focus shoots around the phone being the main object in focus rather than the person. From researching further through the course I learnt so much about how a possession can be so addictive, and how a simple object can connect people all over the world, these days technology makes the world go round.
sofar... sofar...sofar...
I have researched into Elliot Ewritt who helped me understand a comical way of photographing people and possessions; I liked how he would digitally edit the photos of people and show the possession. This helped with me experimenting with my own photos I digitally edited in collage to show the attention and the addiction being sucked from the person to their phone. I also was influenced with this idea from the work Antonie Guiger produced, he would take street photos of people and digitally edit them with the melting tool on Photoshop and it was based on the technology sucking the population in. I recently read an article on how ‘Teenagers are so addicted to social media, there constantly stuck on their phones’ but I think it isn’t just teenagers all ages are, I wanted to show this in my work, I went out in London and simply sat on a side of a street where people where simply walking fast, and I captured almost everyone walking past of all ages using their phone, instead of looking around everyone was so focused on their phone.
260
I have chosen manual settings, and been experimenting with different f-numbers to vary the aperture, I have experimented with different shutter speed to see different ways in taking different kinds of photos. I have also tried to experiment with my photoshoot of the phone and the light, lowering the shutter speed, and zooming in and out at the same time, or moving the camera whilst taking these photos these came out quite successfully because the light looks like it travels from me to the person holding the phone, swirling, I really liked how these turned out. I started off with setting my camera on automatic setting when I was first taking my photos, then further on in the course I learnt more on how to using the camera, experimenting with different shoots in class I then began using these settings in my shoots and further developing my camera techniques has produced better photos that have come out compared to my first shoot. I have then edited these photos online and experimented with dark room techniques to further develop the photos I had originally taken. Looking at ideas for my final piece, I want to create a number of photos in separate frames but all joined up together and I want to have in each frame a different technique, one could be digital collage, one could be time strip dark room technique, a cyanotype, writing over layered on a photo using the dark room.
261
I will want to take further the idea of the phone being the possession taking over the person , maybe experimenting with different cameras will help develop my work further, using a camera with film could help me work a camera which is different to what I usually use it could produce different photos to my others. I want to use different techniques to show how the phones take over this person, they can’t live without it. I want to include in my photos how social media is addictive to people, maybe text flowing through the photos ‘emily posted photo would you like to view it’ john liked your photo’ message from alex’ zoe poked you would you like to poke back’ something that directly addresses the person in the photo. I want to develop the shoot I took of my friend holding her phone, these photos were taken using an old film camera, I will develop them all differently some editing manually and digitally. When looking at how I will display it I came up with the idea of how text messages comes through, this is going to be a number of different frames all joined differently interpreting the business of someone’s phone, and how messages come through.

Evaluation
These photos were all taken with using an old film camera, this meant it was hard for me to take them because I couldn’t see what I was taking when taking the photos. I couldn’t see if they were coming out to light or too dark, and as I had a limit of shots I had to be even more careful and make sure that each shot was perfect and worth the shot, its very different from using a modern day camera but I did enjoy using this kind of camera, the style of how it comes out suits the style of my photography. Having decided the photos I have chosen I will now be experimenting on different techniques on the photos, will be looking at possible ideas with these photos and trying as hard to put across the idea of the photos to show the corruption of the connection between people and show how phones take the attention of people.

AESTHETIC CONSIDERATIONS:
TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS:
TIME: I will be taking these photos in the middle of the day so that it will be bright enough, just because the previous shoot where I was learning how to use the camera the pictures came out quite dark.
PLACE: I will be taking these photos in an estate outside
VIEWPOINT: Will be taking these photos at different view points, some close up, some far away i will focus on mostly close ups so that the viewer can see what’s going on in the photo.
LIGHTING: I will have no control over lighting, as the lighting will be natural from the sunlight
PURPOSE:The purpose of the first shoot was to experiment with using this new camera, then the second shoot was focused on taking a number of photos to find the ones I was using for my final piece.
HEALTH AND SAFETY: I will make sure that the area I am taking the photos in will be safe for the models to be photographed in.
SAFEGUARDING: I will make sure that all models are dress appropriately.
EQUIPMENT USE: I will make sure that all equipment being used like the camera is correctly attached to the tripod, and also the wires will be kept out of the way so that the equipment wont hurt of harm anyone involved in the shoot.
ALANA DEE-HAYNES
This artist is called Alana dee- Haynes, she will take photos of a model and position them in a certain way, she will then edit and draw over the photo to change the image, each image has created a story to the image. I like how he has used doodling over the image to create a strange look onto the photo. My favourite one of her photos are the ones where she has taken a close- up on her models and then used doodles to change the way we look at the image. With these photos when I look at them I feel like the photographer is trying to tell us more about the character that is in the photo, I think the drawings over the photo is trying to tell us something, maybe a story? Or more about the character. If there was just that photo displayed without the drawings, it would be a normal fashion photo, but with the drawings I think it sets the mood and atmosphere of the photo, it can create the photo to be quite sinister, but some drawings create a more happier feel to the photo. This photographer has used space in the photo, he has taken and used that space to create more to the photo, he has used the space to draw in and change the image which I really like with this photographer. His ideas have definitely influenced my ideas following my photography.

Drawing over my own photos
Once looking over Alana Dee-Haynes work I wanted to experiment with working with my own pictures and my own ideas of drawings. I printed off a few photos and without any planning drew what I first thought of when looking at the photos, I have thought about this being a possible idea but I don’t think the drawings are strong enough there is not strong link between the idea that the shoot is about the phone being so important and the connection between the characters in the photo, I will develop this idea further though maybe scratching into acetate the drawings, maybe lines going through the photo , to represent some-way all the characters connected by the phones.
292
Experimenting with different ideas -
I looked at the drawings i did over the photo and didnt think they were as strong as i thourght they could be so instead of drawing over them like the Alana dee haynes work i decided to stratch into the acetate over the photos.
294
These are some more photo’s where i experimented with the use of acetate. I want to carry on an experiment with this idea further maybe digitally editing on the ideas i have came up witj, maybe using lines through the photo to show the connection, like a telephone wire connecting all the models together. This could be one of my possible ideas though.
296
possible idea 1
This is my first possible idea, the idea is that I have five photos, one in each frame and each one them has a drawing of acetate on it, this acetate outlines and stands out on the photos which I like, and it gives me a chance to draw over the photos but onto acetate, its different.
I will have this photos reprinted and developed from the dark room, I will then arrange them in the order I want them, the frames will be dotted around made into a jump-le of frames, arranged into some sort of look like the messages are coming through
I will the manually edit on the photos using drawings over acetate.
297
298
possible idea 2
This is my possible idea two, this is using Photoshop I will digitally edit over the photos using the filling tool, I select an area I want to fill with pattern and colour, this idea I have previously used with the shoot of the phone and the model, I wanted the photos to show the connection between the phones and the models, I wanted to show the lines as like electricity wires, displaying text messages
Going through and bouncing between each-other, the lines displaying the movement of something always happening, the lines also representing the focus on the phone, and how important it is, I wanted the models to be so focused on to he phone that the viewer would notice that there is no interaction with the camera or the photo being taken, all the focus and interaction is around the phone. These photos were developed in the dark room, I have scanned them in edited over them in Photoshop, and then sent off to get re-printed, once back I will then place them in frames right beside each-other.
How my ideas developed over timehow i came to my final piece idea
ideas for final piece When starting with the topic of People and Possessions i decided to start with literal possessions, this is where i noticed that most of the objects people had in their hand was a mobile phone. This then led me onto to looking up the photogrpher ‘Antonie Geiger’ he produced a piece where he focused on the topic ‘sucked by the digital gulf’ He murged the face into the phone representing the idea of the attention eing sucked into the phone. I then produced my own shoot based around this idea of the phone taking the attention of the mode. After this i then when to develop the idea further with taking photos representing the idea of the phone actually being a part of the model, i had the phone rapped around the model’s hand representing how its always in the hand ‘ cant put it down’. I then went onto to doing a shoot in a busy town where i sat on the side of the bench taking photos of people walking by and almost everyone had a phone in their hand. This idea stuck to me, so after discoering this i wanted to use the phone idea more in my work.
summer photos- literal possessions This led me to the idea of light trails showing the connection between the phone and the person, I then looked at Alana’s work who draws on her images which I then experimented with. I then discovered the idea of digitally editing over the image lines and patterns, drawings to represent the connection between the models in the photo, and this is how I came to the idea of my final piece.

A01- When looking through topics to focus on I was looking around and noticed how everyone has their own possession, and it came to me that these possessions defines a person which interested me a lot. Once looking through this I then asked myself how I could display this through my work, I wanted to photograph the idea of what sentiments of possessions is seen through the lens of a camera. I started with photographing literal possessions, this meant that I went round and photographed what people were holding in their hands, this shoot brought to my attention how the phone is the most common possession, it’s a possession that almost everyone has, and it’s something that in this generation people can simply not live without. Once doing this shoot I looked at photographer called Antonie Geiger who photographed pictures of people using their phones, he then edited the photos so that the face was blurred into the phone, looking like the face was being sucked into the phone. I then created my own interpretation with this and created the blur with the phone actually moving from the face and lowering the shutter speed so the phone moving mimicked the face being sucked into the phone. I liked the style of the fashion photographer I studied, Anna Victoria Best I wanted to use her style into my work and focus on framing and angles through my work. I produced a shoot were I went out into London which is a bigger town and sat there photographing simply people walking past, almost everyone had a phone in their hand. When researching into the artists I looked into their own individual pages, found out more about them, where they were from, what inspired them to create their work, and what it’s about what’s the story behind it, I think this helped with my own development with my work because I thought deeper into what each piece I was producing. I was most influenced into the work of Antonie Geiger, Alana Dee- Haynes I loved her he edited over the images he had taken, and I wanted to do this with the work I had produced.

A02- I have experimented with all kind of manual and digital types of techniques over my photo’s, I have used the selection tool on Photoshop, where I have selected areas where I then fill with a pattern or a colour, this was my favourite technique I had done, I used this technique in my final piece as I found it suited the style of work I was producing. However I did also try drawing over my photos which was inspired from the work of Alana Dee-Haynes, they weren’t as strong as the Photoshop editing though. I also experimented with some manual techniques like cutting into the photos and stitching into the photo, also producing my own joiner I looked at all these different techniques so I could see what ones would look good on my final photos. With my final few photos I had taken, I actually used an old film camera to produce them which meant I had to process them, this meant that I had to develop them into negatives, once they were negatives I then used them under the enlarger and developed them in the dark room. I wanted to develop my camera skills, as I was using a normal cannon modern camera, I was taking loads of pictures and editing them on here, but further along in the course I wanted to use the film camera, as it produced a different style of photo, and also it was more challenging as I was unable to see how the photo I was taking would turn out. Antonie Geiger used the merge tool on Photoshop to create the face sucked into the phone, I used this tool to experiment with that in my photos as well. Also Alana Dee- Haynes used Photoshop to scan over her own drawings and overlaid in on top this is something similar I have done with the techniques I produced, I overlaid different photos over the same photo. This then helped me decide with my own ideas, as this work inspired me to create my own patterns and drawings I would select over the photos on Photoshop.

A03- My intention is put across the idea how our generation cannot live without this possession, the possession is so important in everyone’s eyes, this possession is meant to connect people together but it does the opposite, and I wanted to photograph the attention and how people are so focused and hooked into their phones. I wanted to focus on the fact through my photos there is not interaction with others anymore the only interaction is a text message, or a poke on Facebook, or a reminder it’s someone’s birthday so you got to wish them happy birthday. As I have been producing each shoot I have reflected on the photos and seen what had worked well and what hadn’t, once figuring this out I then adjusted these changes in my next shoot so I would develop and learn more about how I can improve the work I am producing. I also looked into more photographers and saw the style of their work, looked at the way they produced it and this influenced my style of work. I chose my idea from experimenting with this camera, I really enjoyed using this camera, so knew I was using this, and I selected 4 different people to photograph and photographed each of them on their phone, displaying them next to them was to show how there is no interaction, everyone is in their own little world, I then edited the lines over the photo to show the connection between them all like a telephone wire, a source of connecting them. It all evolved from noticing and seeing how much our generation has evolved through technology, it’s the main importance in someone’s life, how they appear on social media.

A04- My final outcome was the series of 5 photos showing different teenagers all using their mobiles, I even used one photo which had 2 people using their phones, their facing each other but there not interacting their just looking at the phones. I wanted to show the connection between the mobiles but not the people. I was hoping to create a piece that would put this idea ahead and show the representation of this generation. When looking at my final piece and looking at what developed this idea I can see how it evolved, and I can see in my final piece how the connection between the models in the photo is just between the phones, there is no other way of interaction. These ideas have been evolving through the duration of looking through my topic, from my literal possession shoot, to then the shoot with my sister and her mobile, to then the phone being attached to the hand, then the shoot with the light trails showing the idea of technology being around us, we can only see the possession through the lens, then the natural states shoot where I took photos of people walking past and investigated how many people had their phones in their hand. Once seeing this as an idea I have been developing I wanted to use this idea in my final piece. The most important influences is the work of Antonie Geiger, Alana Dee-Haynes, these photographers have impacted a lot in the final outcome of my work. They have helped me inspire with the idea, and the techniques I have used to produce the photos. My interest as a photographer is fashion, I love focusing on fashion and I think technology is a massive thing in the fashion industry, mobiles and technology is something that’s very important in the fashion industry, and in this society there is a massive up rise in the use of mobiles. The style of my work does show the style I want to go for in my photography, and using the film camera is different to other fashion photographers my age I have seen, and if this is the kind of work I like to produce I want to use this further in my other work I will produce in the future.
