ERIC TERRILL - HEAD COACH ERIC TERRILL enters his 13th season as the head coach of the women’s soccer program at Charleston Southern University. Terrill holds an overall record of 81-127-21 and a conference record of 28-39-7. In his 13 seasons at the helm, Terrill’s teams have finished in the top half of the conference nine times. He has coached 41 all-conference players, two rookies of the year, one player of the year, 95 scholar-athletes, two academic all-Americans and four Big South academic athletes of the year. Terrill always has been a strong recruiter with several All-Americans, region team players and state players of the year under his belt. In 2006, Terrill landed the number one recruiting class in the Big South, a class that was ranked 23rd in the East Region by Soccer Buzz Magazine. Terrill followed this in 2007 by landing the second ranked recruiting class in the conference. The class includes Krista Ross, who won a state championship at the Lowcountry’s own Wando High School; Marky Boyce, who won a national championship with her club team, and others that achieved great personal and team success at both the high school and club levels. Terrill has been coaching for 21 years, the first six as an assistant before earning his first head coaching job at Chowan College, where he directed both the men’s and women’s teams in 1993 and 1994. At Chowan he had to start the men’s and women’s programs from scratch, and he led both programs to successful seasons before coming to CSU. Before coaching at Chowan, Terrill served as assistant men’s and women’s coach at nationally ranked Lee’s McRae College from 1990-93 and as an assistant with the men’s program at Appalachian State from 1987-89. Besides his college coaching experience, Terrill has also been active in the soccer community as a club director and an instructor at several camps and clinics throughout the country. He currently serves as a South Carolina Olympic Development Staff Coach, and has also been involved with Region III, Virginia ODP and Tennessee ODP. Terrill is a 1987 graduate of Michigan State University with a B.A. in physical education and earned his master of arts in education with a concentration in sports management from Appalachian State in 1989.

ASSISTANT COACHES HEATHER ORMAN - ASSISTANT COACH HEATHER ORMAN enters her second consecutive season as the team’s assistant coach. Orman came to Charleston Southern before the 2006 season after spending five years as an assistant at Campbell University. There she helped lead the team to the Atlantic Sun Tournament three times. The Camels also won the conference championship for the first time under her direction and went on to play #1 nationally ranked North Carolina in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Orman is a graduate of Lock Haven (Pa.) University and served as an assistant at Elmira (N.Y.) College before going to Campbell. She holds the National Diploma certification from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. During her career at Lock Haven, Orman set school records for career goals scored, assists, points and also for singleseason assists. She finished her four years with 47 assists, which currently ranks 12th among the all-time NCAA Division II leaders. Orman was named All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference three times and served as captain of her team for four years. A Dean’s List student at Lock Haven, Orman earned her degrees in health and physical education and sports management in 1999. A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., she received her M.S. in education from Elmira College in 2001.

MEGAN MCGONEGAL - STUDENT COACH MEGAN MCGONEGAL will serve as Student Coach this year after playing for the Lady Bucs for the past three seasons. SOLID GOLD

As the Charleston Southern women’s soccer team prepares to embark on its voyage through the 2007 season, the team hopes the right mix of veterans and talented youngsters will make this particular voyage a very lengthy and successful one. For the first time in a long time, the Lady Bucs can count on an established group of upperclassmen to show their younger teammates what it takes to be successful. The experience gained by players such as BRIANA MURPHY and MELANIE BLASCHKE in qualifying for the Big South Conference semifinals in 2005 and in battling through a tough 2006 should serve as an aid to the younger Bucs this year and in the future. Further aiding matters, according to Head Coach ERIC TERRILL, has been the appointment of a “leadership group” consisting of juniors BRITTANY BOLICK, LINDSEY TREXLER, CAITLIN GUNYAN and EMMA MATTSSON. The group is responsible for promoting the right team principles and ensuring all teammates bring out the best in each other. Terrill has noticed immediate dividends on the field from the creation of this group as well as the presence of such a veteran corps. “Thanks to the juniors, we’ve had the highest level yet in practice this year,” he said. “Our freshmen are catching on much quicker this season.” One of the quickest to catch on has been EMILY DANCHAK, whom Terrill labels a strong leader and “a great fit for the team.” Danchak is slated to move immediately into the Lady Bucs’ starting defense, a defense Terrill believes can be the best in the Big South. Terrill’s confidence in his defense is due in large part to reliable veterans Bolick and JESSICA KIM. As ever, CSU will rely on Bolick for her steady play and her leadership, while Kim will be counted on for her ability to move forward and spearhead the attack. Kim won plaudits from Terrill for being on her game in every practice thus far this season. Terrill also sees a lot of promise in his forwards, a promise that is once more due in large part to a talented freshman, MICHELLE DENNIS. Dennis found the net four times in two scrimmage games due in large part to her immense athleticism. Complimenting this athleticism will be, according to Terrill, the team’s “most skilled player,” Mattsson. A 2006 All-Big South Second Team selection who scored four goals last season, Mattsson will team with Dennis to form a very athletic forward core. Things are a little less settled in the midfield. However, Terrill realizes the importance of players establishing themselves here. “The midfield will be the key to our season,” Terrill said. “How strong will we be defensively? Can we control the midfield? Those are questions that we need to have answered early on.” Once more, there will be a mold of old and new here. Both newcomer MARKY BOYCE and seasoned veteran Gunyan will be counted on for their impressive “vision for the game.” Similarly, there are high hopes for both vet side midfielder CHRISTINE BETHKE, whom Terrill sees a lot of potential in should she have a consistent season, and newcomer JEN VROMAN, who arrives at CSU after a one-year stint at Rider University, where she made the All-MAAC Rookie Team. Another skilled player is SARAH CATENACCI, who was selected to the All-Big South Freshman Team last season after tying for the team lead with six goals. Catenacci’s unique blend of athleticism and “trickiness,” highlighted by her great shot, will figure to make her a lineup regular. Two major determinants in how good the midfield will be defensively could be red-shirt freshman CAITLIN WESNESKY and sophomore ALYSSA CLAY. The 5’10” Wesnesky’s physical presence and Clay’s fitness should make them difficult for opposing attackers to deal with. Also impressing with her fitness has been KELSEY RIGGS, an impressive player Terrill labels as a “surprise” who figures to be a regular in midfield off of the bench. Other contributors will include red-shirt sophomore ALISSA SCHOBLASKI whom Terrill is looking to settle in midfield or defense, local freshmen STACI ULICHNIE and KRISTA ROSS, and red-shirt sophomore ROSE MARIE SENISE, who has impressed with her hard work thus far. In net, the Lady Bucs have two very athletic and talented options in sophomore JENA UVALLE, who started for large portions of last season, and freshman ALYSSA BUDROS whose impressive high school career was capped by a senior year in which her team was scored upon only four times in the regular season. Terrill believes the key for both will be overcoming their relative inexperience and harnessing their mental games to get the most out of their ability.
