COACHES
BUCCANEER COACHES
Head Coach
Eric Terrill
ERIC TERRILL enters his 15th season as the head coach of the soccer program at Charleston Southern University. He currently holds a record of 105-136-14 in his time at CSU with a conference record of 38-47-13. In his 14 seasons, Terrill’s teams have finished in the top half of the conference nine times. He has coached 50 all-conference players, three freshmen of the year, one player of the year, 95 scholar-athletes, two Academic All-Americans, and four Big South Academic Athletes of the Year. Terrill has always been a strong recruiter with several All-Americans, region team players and state players of the year under his belt. In 2006, Terrill landed the No.1 recruiting class in the Big South, a class that was ranked 23rd in the East Region by Soccer Buzz Magazine. Terrill followed this in 2007 by landing the second-ranked recruiting class in the conference. This class included Michelle Dennis and Marky Boyce. Dennis won Big South Freshman of the Year honors, made the All-Freshman Team and was also named to the All-Conference Second Team. Boyce was named to the All-Freshman Team and the All-Conference First Team.
Terrill’s ‘07 squad tied the program record for most wins in a season (12) and most consecutive wins (6). He went into the ‘08 season with a strong recruiting class that included Anja Djumisic, who held her high school’s record for most goals in a career. Casey Bolduc held her high school’s record for goals in a season, transfer Amy Arroyo recorded seven shutouts at her previous school, and Olivia Urig twice won SC High School Player of the Year honors. Terrill has been coaching for 23 years. He spent his first six years as an assistant before earning his first head coaching job at Chowan College. There he directed both the men’s and women’s teams in 1993 and ‘94. He started the men’s and women’s programs from scratch at Chowan, and he led both programs to successful seasons before coming to CSU. Terrill served as assistant men’s and women’s coach at nationally ranked Lee’s McRae College from 1990-93 and as an assistant with the men’s program at Appalachian State from 1987-89. Besides his college coaching experience, Terrill has also been active in the soccer community as a club director and an instructor at several camps and clinics throughout the country. He currently serves as a South Carolina Olympic Development staff coach and has also been involved with Region III, Virginia ODP and Tennessee ODP. Terrill is a 1987 graduate of Michigan State University with a B.A. in physical education, and he earned his master of arts in education with a concentration in sports management from Appalachian State in 1989.
Assistant Coach
Christi Rostin
Christina Rostin will be entering her second season as the team’s assistant coach. Rostin had a very prolific four-year career while playing for Terrill and the Lady Bucs from 1997-00. Over the course of her four seasons, Rostin appeared in 62 games with 41 starts, and she amassed 19 goals and recorded 43 points in the process. Both her goal and point totals placed her in the top 10 on both CSU’s all-time scoring lists when she concluded her career. After finishing her eligibility, Rostin served as an assistant coach at CSU during the 2001 season while completing her bachelor’s degree in social science. The ‘01 season was one of the Lady Bucs’ most successful campaigns in program history, as Terrill’s team finished with a 4-1-1 conference record and earned second place in the Big South. Before returning to CSU, Rostin coached with the S.C. Olympic Development program and served as the head coach of various age levels at the Mt. Pleasant Soccer Club. She has also spent time as the soccer coordinator for the Mt. Pleasant Recreation Department. As the soccer coordinator, Rostin has been responsible for overseeing all aspects of one of the largest participatory soccer programs in the state, which sees 4,000+ participants take the field annually. Rostin also has been responsible for the creation of the Mt. Pleasant Developmental Program, a program designed to encourage soccer development amongst children ages 7-10 in Mt. Pleasant.
Goalkeeper Coach
Jackie Stoll
Jackie Stoll enters her second season as the Lady Buc goalkeeper coach after a dominant playing career at Coastal Carolina, where she holds several all-time season records for the Chanticleers. Stoll saw her playing time increase as she advanced into her tenure at Coastal Carolina, appearing in a total of 67 games. Stoll appeared in every game during her final two seasons (2005-06) and recorded 64 saves and 74 saves, respectively, allowing an average of only 1.43 and 1.58 goals per game during that period. Her save record in the 2004 and ‘05 seasons (82, 74) placed her in fourth and fifth place respectively in all-time single season saves, along with seventh and ninth places for her 64 saves in 2006 and 34 saves in 2003. Stoll also left CCU second, third and fifth in all-time single season shutouts. Stoll’s appearances in her final two seasons tied her for first in Coastal’s all-time record for matches played (20) and placed her alone at the top for matches started (20). She left CCU with the record for minutes played with 1,820 in 2006. Her 1,711 minutes in 2005 ranked third, her 1,626 minutes in ‘04 were fifth and her 527 minutes in ‘03 ranked ninth.
Stoll also spends time as a youth soccer coach/trainer for goalkeepers and field players in the Charleston area, working for Suarez Soccer School and James Island Soccer Club.

OUTLOOK
Buccaneers 2009 Outlook T
he 2009 season for the Charleston Southern University women’s soccer team should prove to be a thrilling ride, as the Buccaneers are coming off the heels of a fourth-place finish in the Big South Conference last season and a second-place mark in ’07. CSU finished last year with a 9-6-4 overall record (4-2-3 Big South), and will be looking to hit the double-digit win plateau and make a run at the Big South Championship. Charleston Southern has been dominant at home over the last two seasons, posting a 12-1-3 mark in that span. The Bucs return three of the five players that recorded double-digit points in 2008. The leading scorer returning from last year is junior forward Michelle Dennis (pictured left). Dennis, a former Big South Freshman of the Year, tied for the team lead with eight goals and assisted on two goals for a total of 18 points, one behind the team lead. Versatile senior midfielder Sarah Catenacci (6g-5a=17p), and junior midfielder Caitlin Wesnesky (5g-3a=13p) also return following successful 2008 campaigns. Charleston Southern was selected by the coaches in the Big South to finish in third place this season. The team selected in the preseason to win the conference was Radford University, who received 86 total points and three first-place votes. The Highlanders narrowly edged out Coastal Carolina University (85 points, three first-place votes) for the top spot. CSU garnered 79 points and three first-place votes. High Point University (69 points) and Liberty University (56 points, one firstplace vote) rounded out the top five. Winthrop University (55), Virginia Military Institute (42) and University of North Carolina-Asheville (31) were also selected to qualify for the Big South Championships, which will be hosted by Charleston Southern and played at Blackbaud Stadium Nov. 5-8. The two teams picked to finish outside the top eight were Gardner-Webb University (27) and Presbyterian College (20). FORWARDS The fierce forwards are led by juniors Michelle Dennis and Marky Boyce, who both burst onto the scene as freshmen. Both were named to the All-Freshman Team, and Dennis was named the Freshman of the Year. She also earned Second-Team All-Conference honors, while Boyce was named to the First-Team. Dennis led the team with eight goals last season, and assisted on two goals for 18 points. Boyce played in all but one game in 2008 and tallied four points (one goal, two assists). Sophomore Anja Djumisic is expected to provide quality depth up top. She notched one assist in 12 games last year. “Obviously Michelle’s been an impact player for us the last two years, and we expect her to have another great season this year,” coach Eric Terrill said. “We’re moving Marky up front, and we expect her to do great things at the forward position. She had an unbelievable spring, so she’s ready for a big year. “Anja is one of the top players for us from a fitness standpoint, and we expect huge things out of her, too. We have a lot of attacking players that could see time up top, and we’re going to be very fluid about where we put players on the attack.” MIDFIELDERS The midfielders play a key role in the 3-5-2 formation (three defenders, five midfielders, two forwards) that is utilized by Charleston Southern. Three seniors headline the midfield for the Buccanneers in captain Lindsey Trexler, Sarah Catenacci (pictured right) and all-conference player Jen Vroman. These three will be called upon to use their experience and athleticism to lead this group of talented players. Trexler played all 19 games last season with 15 starts. She scored a goal and added four assists for six points. Catenacci returns after recording 17 points (six goals, five assists) in 2008. Vroman started every game last
6
year, and she scored twice with four assists for eight points. Junior Caitlin Wesnesky earned Second-Team All-Conference honors last year, and will be a force this year. She started all 19 games in 2008, scoring five goals and adding three assists for 13 points. Other Buccaneers who will be battling for starting jobs and playing time are senior Alicyne Smith, junior Krista Ross, sophomore Olivia Urig, and freshmen Rebecca Hollstegge, Mary-Kate Dunphy and Morgann Wood. Smith and Ross played in a combined seven games last year, and Urig played in 14 games with seven starts. The other three are all new to the program. “Our biggest strength is probably in the midfield,” Terrill said. “We have a lot of talent in the midfield, starting with two of the most talented mids in the conference. Caitlin is a huge ball-winner, and Trexler is a phenomenal playmaker. “We have a lot of players who we expect to step in and make a difference for us, and we’re going to try and be fluid in the midfield. Olivia, Rebecca and Morgann all came in and have made huge strides during preseason, and we expect them all to compete for starting positions. They all have excellent athleticism and incredible work rates.” DEFENDERS Charleston Southern will have a loaded backline as the team returns four talented and experienced players. Junior captain Emily Danchak and fellow juniors Kelsey Riggs and Staci Ulichnie will all compete for playing time. Danchak started 15 games a season ago, and she recorded an assist. Riggs and Ulichnie combined to start seven games, and were very valuable when they were on the field. Sophomore Casey Bolduc stepped into a starting role during her rookie campaign, as she played in all but one game with 14 starts. She scored once and added two assists for four points, earning a spot on the Big South All-Freshman Team. Sophomore Andrea Williams transferred from Western Carolina University and will vie for playing time. Freshman Madison Forsyth will be a huge asset in the 2010 season, but she will be redshirting this upcoming year due to an ACL injury that she suffered her final year of high school. “Defensively, we have a good core coming back from last year,” Terrill said. “They have all worked really hard in the spring, and we’re really excited about what they can do. We have Casey coming back, and Emily’s been a consistent starter for us the last two years. Staci jumped in and showed what she could do late last year, and she really made a big impact for us in the spring. The same thing goes for Kelsey Riggs – we’re really looking for them all to step up and show everyone what they can do this year.” GOALKEEPERS The Buccaneers are strong at goalkeeper for 2009, sporting two keepers with extensive starting experience in senior Jena Lalich and junior captain Alyssa Budros. Budros played extremely well in her first season as the feature goalkeeper. She played 14 games and finished 2008 with a 7-3-4 record and a 1.17 goals against average. She was dominant in Big South action, posting a 4-1-3 mark with two shutouts. Lalich started in every conference game in 2007, and last year she started four games, posting a 2-2-0 record with one shutout. Redshirt sophomore Amy Arroyo started in one game last season and will provide quality depth in net for CSU. “We have two keepers who have great starting experience, which will be crucial for us this season,” Terrill said. “Budros has been extremely dominant both fitness-wise and with goalkeeper testing during the preseason. Our other two keepers are really talented as well, and I expect them to challenge one another throughout the season.”

High School: Three-year starter on varsity team...named team captain both junior and senior years and voted Best Defensive Player junior year...named to the All-District Team her junior year and helped lead team to the district finals in 2008...Forsyth’s club team acquired many accolades during her tenure, including Michigan State Cup Quarterfinalist, Orange Classic Champion and 2007 Veterans Invitational Champions...was Vardar Nike Cup Champion and was a two-year captain for the Vardar Club team ... Personal: Born Feb. 26, 1991...daughter of Randy and Michelle Forsyth... majoring in nursing. Coach Terrill’s thoughts on Forsyth - “Madison played on the same club team as Rebecca, so she
has that same winning pedigree. She was one of the better center backs coming out of Michigan, but unfortunately she tore her ACL last year and will have to sit out this season. She is a great leader out of the back, and we’re definitely going to count on her to make an impact in the 2010 season.”

MARY-KATE DUNPHY
Fr., M, 5-2
Wareham, Mass.
High School: Captain of her high school varsity team...scored 18 goals and recorded 28 assists in her high school campaign and was voted MVP of her team...voted to the regional all-star team, and the local newspaper voted her to the All-Star Super Team in 2008...high school career includes a Maple State finals appearance, two semi-finalist appearances and she also participated as a Massachusetts ODP player...was a member of the boy’s varsity hockey team freshman year...Dunphy played competitive club soccer for nine years on the Division-I Maple team, the Crusaders United SC...was a South Coast All-Star in both 2006 and ‘08 ... Personal: Born March 20, 1991...daughter of Michael and Joanne Dunphy...majoring in business. Coach Terrill’s thoughts on Dunphy - “I saw Mary-Kate play at the ‘Score at the Shore Greensboro Tournament’, and she was easily one of the most talented players there. She is a hardnosed kid to be reckoned with. She also played ice hockey in high school so she has that type of mentality. She is feisty, speedy and athletic, and she has that never-give-up attitude. She gets forward well and can create things on the attack. We are really excited about getting her and she should make an immediate impact in the program.”

MORGANN WOOD
Fr., M, 5-7
Kentwood, Mich.
High School: Wood earned all-district honors both senior and junior years...lettered three years... named Third-Team All-State and all-conference senior year...named team MVP and Defensive MVP... was a member of the Grand Rapids Junior Crew, one of the best club teams in western Michigan... was also a member of the club ice hockey team that came in as the runners-up in the Michigan State Championships ... Personal: Born Dec. 24, 1990...daughter of Anita Sue and Dan Wood...majoring in kinesiology. Coach Terrill’s thoughts on Wood - “Morgann is a specimen - she’s flat legit. She played club ball
with (junior goalkeeper) Alyssa Budros. She played ice hockey growing up like Mary-Kate. Athletically, she’s one of the best players to come out of Michigan. She fast, strong and agile. She’s got it all athletically, and she’s going to be a huge impact player on the field for us. She has a decent skill level, but she will be one of the most athletic kids in the conference.”
