2013 Mason Alumni Weekend Program

Page 1

October 4–6, 2013

Welcome Back, Fellow patriots! Alumni Weekend has arrived. And once again, we all have another opportunity to reminisce with friends, to reconnect with a place that helped shape our lives, and to renew our commitment to Mason. As you travel through campus, you will see new structures, redesigned roads, and mounds of freshly overturned soil, all of which are the unmistakable signs of a growing university. Despite these changes, I hope you will notice that the essence of Mason remains constant. Our alma mater is still a nurturing academic community that supports students’ intellectual and personal growth. Each of us has contributed to that sense of community, and I encourage you to find new ways to support Mason’s mission to transform lives. While walking the paths you once tread as a student, reminiscing about your journey through Mason, take a little time to ponder Mason’s future. Current and future Patriots will follow in your footsteps, and we want them to succeed. So, ask yourself: What can I do to make their journey a little easier? Whether it is donating to a scholarship fund, mentoring a student who wants to follow a career path you have traveled, or hiring a Mason student, each contribution makes a difference. We’ve all blazed new personal trails as we have progressed through our lives, yet we are indebted to those who came before us. They paved the paths that we traveled. They knocked down barriers so we could follow. We can repay those debts by paying them forward. As a supportive member of the Mason community, however you choose to pay those debts forward, I have no doubt you will arrive at the right answer for you and Mason. With Patriot Pride, Rodney W. Turner, JD ’93
