Welcome home, patriots! As you stroll through Mason’s ever-evolving campus this weekend, you will notice how it has developed. You will see new and familiar structures that enhance each student’s Mason experience: academic buildings where students develop their intellectual abilities, oncampus housing where students learn lifelong lessons, and athletic facilities where students cheer on their favorite teams and expend a little sweat of their own. What I hope will resonate with you is that the essence of the Mason experience remains unchanged: a nurturing academic community that encourages students to grow intellectually and personally. As you know, Mason alumni have always been invaluable contributors to that experience. Mason alumni help lay the foundation for those who follow in our footsteps. As students, we established enduring Mason traditions. As alumni, we teach, counsel, and hire Mason students. By funding scholarships, we help students pursue their own Mason experiences. Indeed, alumni will always play a significant role at Mason. During Alumni Weekend, I hope you will reflect on your Mason experiences and renew your connection to Mason. As you renew old friendships, reacquaint yourself with old haunts, or marvel at how the campus has changed, take pride in what Mason has become. You play an important role in our alma mater’s growth, and I hope you will be inspired to continue in your support of the Mason experience. After all, ours is a lifelong connection to Mason. With Patriot Pride, Rodney W. Turner, JD ’93 President, George Mason University Alumni Association 1
