Front cover this month the lovely Laura a blast from the past Editions. Taken of course at the famous Oak Point Restaurant on route 90 in Winnipeg MB Canada where I have a big billboard out front. Can’t miss it! It is a symbol of Canadian Trucking Magazine, out on Easter delivering magazines to my brothers and sisters on the road. Pictured here on this page are friends and loyal readers of CTM that I met on the road to and from the last truck shows I attended in the last month. It is awesome to get your input to OUR magazine here and what directions to take. Based on articles, loads of pictures and entertainment, CTM is meant to make your day better and spend time enjoying a read at a dock, travel center or for your family at home. Always pick it up, read it and keep it as there is always valuable jokes and information to make the day better and pass on. So when I am travelling NA in a big truck or CTM cruiser I look forward to hearing what you want in OUR magazine. Watch for locations on FB.
No Elogs, No speed limiters on the front cover, what is that all about? Well on the FB page on April 1st in the morning that was our posting. The days when in trucking we did not need anyone to hold our hand behind the wheel, because truckers did the job better and safer than anyone sitting in an office writing the regulations. However you all have noticed a change on the road and sharing it with a new bunch that are different when we were new. Accidents and bad scale incidents have increased regulating. It is a pain but some change is not bad change. I have used Elogs and must say it is faster and easier than a log book, just punch and drive. See more in the digital magazine and the next few pages, digital dose not limit the amount of good stuff we can provide you! Read On !!!!!

The crowds around the Xp3 booth were awesome, not only because Xp3 is awesome and the demonstration of Xp3 were eye opening but a special visit by the Ice Road Truckers. People flocked to see them and say hello in person. The Lick & Stick cameras that you can order on Page 29 were selling like hot cakes at over $100. People realize you need to protect your CDL with a silent witness recording everything as you drive and you control. Again I have limited space here but will write another few pages in the web copy and post more pictures and NASCAR. When you see me in the truck stop, say hi, and ask me about Xp3, cameras and maybe where to find a better place to drive for. CTM is again holding a TRUCK ~ CAR ~ BIKE show, this time in July, watch for details. I like to say again thanks for reading CTM and I look forward to hearing from you than about you.
Be safe my friends! Happy Trails.....

On page 4 I teased you with a picture of David Tyrchniewicz from Manitoba @ Truck World in Toronto. Dave was there with Smart Truck which if you don’t know what that is, follow the big arrow to the right. In the aerospace industry, new aircraft are generally 20% more fuel efficient than the units they replace. So why not try to accomplish the same concept in trucking and challenge the status quo? That’s exactly the strategy that SmartTruck aerospace engineers employed to crack the code on our groundbreaking tractor and trailer designs. SmartTruck Systems dramatically reduce drag and improve fuel efficiency for Class 8 over the road trucks. SmartTruck’s world-class engineers are recognized leaders in the field of advanced aerodynamic design. Their experience includes working with Boeing, NASA and a wide range of aerodynamic accomplishments, including supersonic aircraft, world-class motor sports and a plug-in hybrid concept vehicle for Ford Motor Company. Applying their expertise to SmartTruck, they’ve imagined, designed, tested and retested totally new concepts in trailer aerodynamics. A rectangular shaped trailer is great for hauling cargo; however, from an aerodynamic perspective, no shape could be more difficult to pull through the air. Right behind every trailer running down the highway is a low pressure wake (represented by the blue shades behind the trailer)
This blue wake is the largest element of aerodynamic drag on the entire vehicle. This wake actually tries to pull your vehicle backward, greatly reducing fuel efficiency. The UnderTray performs by injecting high energy airflow into the wake from both above and below the trailer. Specifically, the UnderTray: Minimizes drag associated with trailer underside components Compresses and accelerates airflow and injects high energy airflow into the trailer wake Pulls high energy, attached air flow from the top of the trailer down into the trailer wake SmartTruck’s UnderTray components are made of tough polyethylene plastic and the ARG is made of Thermoplastic Olefin (TPO). These 100% recyclable materials are frequently used in many trucking and marine applications and are proven to stand up to the abuse of the road, chemicals, and weather. Durability and operational advantages are significant…
The integrated design of the UnderTray Systems provides: Steep angle clearance at loading docks, facility entrances, railroad tracks, etc. Flexbility for maintenance, inspections, and cleaning the underside of your trailers Rail friendly operations – SmartTruck equipped trailers can be loaded onto rail cars If you want a DURABLE CARB compliant aerodynamic prodReplaced less than 10 components uct that stays RUGGED – even when to date the unexpected happens – you’ll want Customers do not need replacement to own the SmartTruck UnderTray. parts or inventory Get in touch with us: Improved tire and brake cooling 19 Bentall Street Easy access to underside of trailer Winnipeg, Manitoba R2X 2Z7 Con-way Truckload has over 1,800 Dealer and General Information (855) 453-0133 toll free units: $0 spent on maintenance, no re- (204) 633-2143 placement parts contact@SmartTruckCanada.com UnderTray components are clamped to your trailer with weather re- Jenni Linsdell sistant chromated hardware and fasten- Sales & Administrative Assistant jenni@SmartTruckCanada.com ers.

(CALGARY, April 30, 2014) – William "Bill" Sokil, a pioneer in the development of Alberta’s trucking industry, passed away on April 25, 2014, at the age of 83 years. Bill Sokil was president and CEO of Edmonton-based Sokil Transportation Group, a business that grew into one of the province’s most influential fleets with operations across the country. Bill’s focus was not on the company alone, but on the trucking industry overall. He served two terms as president of the Alberta Motor Transport Association (1971-1972 and 1979-1980), which at the time was called Alberta Trucking Association. He also served as chairman of the industry’s national association, Canadian Trucking Alliance. He was actively involved in legislative and regulatory affairs at the municipal, provincial, federal and international levels. He was regarded by many as a major force in the industry who led in a quiet way, someone who was ahead of his time and made things better for the entire industry. “I always had the greatest respect for his dynamic approach and ability to move issues forward to solution,” said Richard Warnock, acting executive director, AMTA. “Our industry owes him a debt of gratitude for his leadership.” "Bill Sokil was one of the Alberta trucking pioneers and one of its great personalities. However, Bill's contribution and influence extended well beyond Alberta,” said David Bradley, president and CEO, Canadian Trucking Alliance. “He was one of the smallest carriers to serve as chairman of the Canadian Trucking Association, the predecessor of the current CTA, and one of the architects of Canada's current truck weights and dimensions standards. He will be missed. Our sympathies to Bill's sons, Greg and Rob, and to the entire Sokil family."
The son of Ukrainian immigrants, Bill went directly from high school to work with the two trucks owned by his family. That was the start of a trucking empire that grew into one of Western Canada’s most influential fleets. In 2013 the company ranked as one of Canada’s top 100 carriers by Today’s Trucking magazine. Today the company operates more than 877 pieces of equipment and has 270 employees. 2 Family ties remain strong in the company that is the epitome of a family-run business. Several generations of family members are directly involved in the day-today operation of Sokil Transportation Group. He is survived by his two sons, Greg (Angie) and Robert (Valerie); four grandchildren, Allison (Ari), Stephen, Katie, and Robyn; and brother, Russell. Predeceased by his wife, Marjorie and his parents, John and Annie. The family would like to extend their thank you to the staff at Capital Care Lynnwood as well as to the nurses at the Misericordia Hospital for their excellent care. Prayers Friday, May 2 at 8:00 p.m. at Park Memorial Chapel, 9709 – 111 Avenue. Funeral Service Saturday, May 3 at 11:00 a.m. at Park Memorial Chapel. Interment in Rosehill Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, NWT and Nunavut, 10985-124 Street, Edmonton, AB T5M 0H9. Fuel Saving Hub Caps by Dave MacKENZIE
The great things about products you find in Canadian Trucking Magazine is we try them out first! This month I got to visit the factory where the fuel saving hub caps are made. Marc Palud famous for the BetterTrucker.com pictured in the suit to the right took me on this tour and then help install a set on the drives of the Volvo VN I was driving. I found they were a quick, easy economical aerodynamic add-on, these Fuel Saving Hub Caps from AeroTech Caps. These lightweight wheel covers fit neatly on all the rims made for 22.5 rims and super singles and said to improve my MPGs by up to 2.44% when used on the tractor and trailer. Wow that equates to a fuel savings of approximately $1,500 per year. At a cost of about 80 bucks each that means the first year I am looking at over a $1,000.00 in saving. Repstar Agencies Inc. is the Master Manufacturers Rep for AeroTech Caps in North America and have reseller opportunities and fleet pricing. How do they work?
The Fuel Saving Hub Cap wheel covers reduces air turbulence caused by the wheel well cavities and streamlines the airflow around the wheels. The optional UV transparent center cap allows for easy visual inspections. The patent-pending j-clips and tube ring combination keep the wheel cover tightly secured on the rim. Some fleets I talked to even use these wheel covers to cover up flaking, faded rusting rims instead of polishing or painting. I had blue ones put on to match Caravan’s colours. They come in Black, White or Silver but fleet colours are available in quantities. I will have these out at the truck shows for you to see or visit thier web site @ www.bettertrucker.com
Looking for ways to keep your money in your pocket!

They’ve helped Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt and David Pearson reach the pinnacle of their NASCAR career, and today fans can once again aid in ushering in a new group of legends into the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
Fan voting for the NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2015 opens today on NASCAR.com (www.nascar.com/halloffame) and runs through Tuesday, May 20 at noon ET. The five nominees receiving the highest percentage of votes will comprise the Fan Vote ballot. Voting Day for the NASCAR Hall of Fame Class of 2015 is Wednesday, May 21, 2014.
“The NASCAR Hall of Fame is the only hall of its kind where fans have had a voice in the induction process since its inception,” said Brett Jewkes, NASCAR chief communications officer. “And the reason is simple. NASCAR fans are extremely passionate and knowledgeable about the sport and its history, and have demonstrated that with their selections for the first five classes.”
Last year, Richard Childress, Rick Hendrick, Dale Jarrett, Benny Parsons and Fireball Roberts were on the Fan Vote ballot. Jarrett and Roberts were enshrined as part of the Class of 2014.
