What an exciting month with hitting all the truck stops and talking to you on Chrome & Steel Radio and attending MATS2016. On the COVER is Jennifer Brennan who was at MATS 2016 in the Canadian Trucking Magazine Booth signing autographs and taking pictures. Take a look at the Web Edition this month for videos and write up on the World’s Largest Truck Show and more Jennifer. I want to thank my readers and listeners on Chrome & Steel Radio for your prayers and well wishes when you learned that the CTM Vehicle we were in coming back from MATS was in a Head On collision at highway speeds. The waste of skin travelling S/B on I35 did a illegal U turn at high speed straight into the front of our N/B vehicle with only seconds to react. I call her a waste of skin because of all the other alleged activities she was involved in besides making an illegal turn at high speed. A Story I would have to save for the Expanded Web Edition as it would fill this 48 page Edition with all the Details.

When I travel it is normally in a big truck so I can feel your pain on the road Brothers & Sisters, sometimes I am living the dream, weather turns, then living the nightmare. But loving it! This time because of lack of loads available it was in the 4 wheeler, that as you can see in the bottom right corner is toast. Big thanks to all the Law enforcement agencies and rescue services that worked to save our lives. As well as the Northfield Trama Centre and then the HCMC in Minneapolis MN. Some of us were lucky to fly there by helicopter at a cost of 20,000.00 Canadian. Tip always have insurance. See more in the digital magazine and the next few pages, digital does not limit the amount of good stuff we can provide you! Read on ,,,,,

BORDER WATCH by DAVE MacKENZIE

$9 million worth of the Drugs make its way by Sea

Two men have been jailed 17 and 15 years respectively for their roles in a cocaine smuggling operation that saw close to $9 million worth of the drug make its way by sea from Guyana to St. John, New Brunswick, and then to a public storage facility in Mississauga. Justice Peter Daley found James Buttazzoni, 45, of Mississauga, and Rampersaud Ramlall, 40, of Whitby, guilty in Brampton court of conspiracy to import cocaine and possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. “The impact of cocaine upon our citizens cannot be underestimated. It is a plague on our community and impacts on all aspects of society by destroying the lives of those involved in its use as well as their families,” the judge said in sentencing the pair. Daley acquitted both men however, of importing cocaine, ruling Buttazzoni only became involved with the cocaine when it arrived in Ontario. Evidence showed that Ramlall had com-

munication with people in Guyana, who were involved in the exportation of the cocaine to Canada, but the judge ruled “his conduct, on the evidence, does not constitute importing. Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers opened the container and located 112 kilograms of cocaine with a purity of 74 per cent, which was hidden in the wooden pallets located in the container. The container also held quantities of hot sauce, Chinese sauce, seasonings and noodles, court heard. Border guards used x-ray technology to find the drugs, which were hidden in pallets on a container ship, during the May 29 bust. Police say the pallet boards had been hollowed out and filled with bags of cocaine. Charged in the second seizure Joseph Compton Grant-Stuart, 57, Ephraim Agustus Grant-Stuart, 56, and Dennis Andrew Grant-Stuart, 70, all of Toronto. Note from Dave! If you see suspicious activity, persons asking you for a ride across the border in your vehicle, a loose lipped driver talking about smuggling loads of weapons or drugs, do us all a big favour and contact authorities. Try to get as much information as possible without becoming involved and shut these bad guys down. They are bad for our business.

DECKER

37

From a young age, Natalie Decker set her goals high in the motorsports industry. Now, at age 18, the Wisconsin native is already well on her way towards becoming one of the top young drivers in the NASCAR scene.

Victories and a strong fan base have been a part of Decker’s life and career since she first got behind the wheel of a go-kart. In the years since, she has won races and championships, all leading to being a part of the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program and on her way into the top levels of the sport.

It all started as a young racer, where she won four track championships around her native Wisconsin in go-karts. From there, it was a move into full-sized stock cars. She was the CWSSA Super Stock champion out of a talented field of 35 drivers. Success continued in the Limited Late Model division, where she won one race and had two podium finishes. Another step up the racing ladder led her to becoming the Sportsman of the Year in the Midwest Truck Tour and one win and the Rookie of the Year crown in the Triple Crown Super Truck Series. It was Decker’s move into the competitive Late Model ranks that really began her rapid rise onto the lists of top upand-coming racing stars. She completed in every lap of the World Series of Stock Car Racing at Florida’s New Smyrna Speedway in 2013. Her on-track success led

her to being selected to the 2013 and 2014 NASCAR Rev Racing Drive for Diversity combine. At State Park Speedway in Wisconsin, Decker had 10 fast times and seven feature races in 2014, leading her to the track championship. She was also the Rookie of the Year and finished fourth in overall points in the State Park Super Late Model division. She was also a winner in the Super Late Model division at Wisconsin’s Golden Sands Speedway and on the competitive TUNDRA Super Late Model series in the upper Midwest in 2014 as well. Top-level management at NASCAR selected Decker to be a part of the NASCAR Drive for Diversity program with proven racewinning team Rev Racing in 2015. She battled week in and week out against the top short track racers in the country at “The Birthplace of the NASCAR Stars,” Hickory Motor Speedway.

Decker turned heads at Hickory and beyond with the Rev Racing team and also saw plenty of success with her family-operated Super Late Model tracks from Wisconsin to Florida. That success came in the form of four Super Late Model victories between Golden Sands and State Park Speedways. Adding to her history of breaking records, Decker became the first female racer to ever score a podium finish in the ARCA Midwest Tour. Her success in the state of Florida through the season also earned Decker the prestigious title of NASCAR Whelen AllAmerican Series Rookie of the Year in the Sunshine State. In 2016, Decker has her sights set on continuing her progression up the NASCAR racing ladder as she sets her sights on achieving more victories and accolades on short tracks across America.

It seems like yesterday but 40 years ago Jack Shields and his 3 sons (Clarence, Jim & John) started their first restaurant an A&W, in a small northern town called Fort McMurray. At that time there were less then 5,000 people living in that community. From there they expanded to include the Fort’s first Smitty’s Pancake House & Diary Queen franchises, the Garden Cafe, Willies and Oriellys & the Stags Head Inn. As Fort McMuuray continued to grow so did the Shields family business. In 1986 after the introduction of the Liberal National Energy Program the family lost all their business and were forced to start all over again. Some 25 years ago Jack and Clarence started all over again by operating a restaurant located the Nisku Truck Stop. From there they continued to grow acquiring the Airways Country Inn and numerous other business interests. Brother Jim and his wife Jody ventured off to start a successful greenhouse operation, while John continued on with an award winning career in radio. Blackjacks Roadhouse and Games Room is a brand new building been created to host Clarence’s latest vision, this outstanding and beautiful building features amazing truss work and a 2nd floor grand stage over- looking our room.
