Springer & Angie on the Front Cover with Xp3! It is great to see the way Marc Springer looks after his baby he drives on the popular show Shipping Wars and everyday as an OTR Owner Operator of Snortn’ Boar Transport. Chrome is a big part of the proud truckers out there as for many we spend more time in the truck then we do any other place. Inside and out I have seen some of the best of the best who take pride to not only have a clean truck but a truck to be proud to open your door to any visitor. You don’t have to be skinned alive to buy chrome either. Very reasonable shops like my favorites Audra the Manager Chrome store/wash bay at Clearwater Truck Center, MN, awesome pricess, then of course Chrome Shop mafia at 4 State, the largest of all Chrome Shops I have seen and again great prices and knowledge. In Canada I always recommend Steve over at the Road King Chrome Shop in Calgary Ab or in Edmonton Darrell & Tina @ Lesco Distributors, know thier stuff, friendly and I can’t say this enough, won’t put it to us drivers.

In Angie’s article with Marc Springer Page 38, they talk about

Brunner Fabrication, talk about the WOW effect. My buddy Stephan Keam his KW is the WOW effect and in the WOW calender coming out soon! Don’t miss the Xp3 program going on with details on Page 32. A chance to save and compare.

Congratulations to Lori Franklin receiving Volvo Trucks Canada Driver of the Year Award. Lori who drives for D.J. Knoll is one Driver I can say more than deserves this award. Two of her co-pilots, Kellie & Spenser were in the CTM Pet page a few months ago and meeting her and her husband Graden who she drives team with in person I can tell you this Driver represents our Industry deserving of this award. Thank-you Lori to your dedication to Trucking and giving all of us such a great rep! Joe Chernick, a 50 year Trucking Veteran that all of us would be proud to have and perhaps wish we had as our dispatcher took home the Cervus Equipment Peterbilt Dispatcher of the Year Award. Joe is a dispatcher who got his class one licence at 18, drove OTR and now works as a dispatcher for D.J. Knoll. Thank-you Joe, pictured here to the right, there are far and few dispatchers that could fill your shoes, especially one like you that is highly spoken about by the drivers in your hands. If you know someone like Joe CTM should reconize, let me know. After all this is your magazine, the magazine built for transport, made small to fit in your pocket and filled with pictures, large print, jokes, games and entertainment. This is not a job posting rag.

Canadian Trucking Magazine was built so there would be something for everyone in it, so you would pick it up, keep it and give it to your friends. With your help I think we are reaching our target with input from you our Brothers and Sisters of the road. Of course there is advertising to pay for magazine so we can print it and get it into your hands. So please to help out, use the advertisers and be sure to say you saw them in CTM. Recommend CTM to your Company and places you would eat, stay or purchase from. In turn we will keep cranking these pages out to you and add dozens more each month in the CTM web Edition on the Web Site. Advertisers like Xp3 we put a stronger spin on because we have tested this product and know it will save you money and head aches in so many ways! So glad they are doing the exchange program so Truckers can see how it works this winter season to keep you on the road without freezing up and save fuel too and more importantly add lubricity to your engine the new fuel has taking away by removing sulfur. Take a minute to read Marc’s article on page 32, but most important, get a bottle of Xp3. Even if you are a company driver, it is better than gelling up and being stuck and not making miles. Continued Page 6.........

No surprise CTM’s support for the troops and mine. This month we lost two Heroes, Heroes not because they Died, But because of how They Lived. These two Heroes wrote a blank cheque up to and including thier lives to protect Canadians. As Canadians we support them! Every Friday you will see me wearing red and CTM posting on the Canadian trucking Magazine Face Book Page ~ Red Shirt Friday. We wear Red Fridays to thank our Service People, Military ~ Police ~ Fire Rescue, for running towards danger as others run away. Please join me in that. I enjoy delivering CTM on the road each month and getting your valuable feedback to grow our Transport Magazine.

I like to say again thanks for reading CTM and I look forward to hearing from you, than about you. Be safe my friends! Happy Trails.....

What’s New in the CTM Expanded Web Edition this Month

First I start about our October Centerfold NASCAR own driver Martin Truex Jr. and his long-time girlfriend, Sherry Pollex. Sherry Pollex is fighting ovarian cancer and NASCAR has and will always support the fight against Cancer. So fitting in the CTM October Edition to have this fighter and thier story in the centerfold starting on page 37. The cover speaks for itself, the CTM team in LasVegas NV for one of the largest industry shows, SEMA. This year not only does CTM report on SEMA but Canadian Trucking Magazine is distributed there and in the SEMA magazine. Watch at the Canadian Trucking Magazine Face Book page for updates and videos. Next on Page 17 is our friend John Demelo with Canada Cargo Lines. Fitting the Ad line is “Make Money with John”, as I have know John for over a decade and drivers have made pots of money working with John. John knows the business and knows how to earn 6 for everyone.

By Angela Dola

The theme throughout the magazine our Celebrity Editor Dave MacKENZIE on the Road. Dave hand delivers Canadian Trucking Magazine across Canada so you as part of the CTM family get a hard copy in your hands. The hard copy is only 48 pages, cost effective, with just the meat and potatoes and teasers to get readers to go to the Web Edition for more.

My favorite part of the magazine is the jokes. Dave tells me how in truck stops and travel centers the first place CTM readers go is to the joke pages. Could be I enjoy that so much as I pick those out. Great to hear in the Women in Trucking Article by Ellen Voie on Page 24 that the Girl Scouts have a trucking badge. Did you know at one time Canadian Trucking Magazine was printed with as many pages as you see here. The cost of printing 80, 100 pages did not match the revenue that CTM only earns from advertising. CTM is very careful who advertises too. We carefully pick only those advertisers we would use ourselves. So 48 pages were picked as our maximum amount and everything else goes into the web edition. The great result that came out of this was we could then monitor the number of readers CTM had by independent IP hits. It started at an amazing 30,000 and has grown to over 80,000 independent hits “Readers”. That is just a mind blowing incredible amount!

Did you also know if you add every face book fan from every Transport Magazine in North America, it still did not come close to the 13,000 fans Canadian Trucking Magazine has. That’s you the reader doing this and CTM wants to earn your loyalty by printing what you want to see. Bring home a copy of this to your better half if they don’t ride with you, or better ask them to read the expanded Web Edition and understand the job you do to keep NA stocked and running smooth. Most important, thank-you for the job you do, the support you give our magazine and may you have good weather and dry roads.

See you at the events!

Angie

Why a Transport Magazine should have Support for our Troops

By Dave MacKENZIE

8

One would think the obvious reason would because the Publisher Editor has been a Soldier and Policeman in my life as well as proud to call myself a Truck driver. But here are some better reasons. First, Transport Drivers have always been very grounded people providing a service to keep the country running and most times the first people to help people in need, be it broken down on the highway or a good cause. This is so evident in the Convoys for great causes each year, the participation is awesome. So it is not a far jump for Transport to appreciate and understand people that are willing to put on a uniform and also contribute to our country by keeping it safe. Whether Conflict or Disaster.

Second, you won’t be surprised to find the number of people in Transport who have served. Might have been anywhere from Cadets to Reserve to Regular forces to Coast guard to CBSA. These people in Uniform as I have said many times have written Canada a blank cheque up to and including thier life to protect and defend us. If you don’t agree with me and cannot find it to stand behind them, feel free to stand in front of them next time of conflict. I am not just talking about danger outside Canada, but riots, flooding, looting, things that happen in Canada and the first thing we scream for is the army. So why does a Transport Magazine support our Heroes,,, is because they deserve it.

You might not be pulling one of Querel Trailers has the Xp3 these now, but I bet you know someone who you all have been looking for.

Pictured above, Bruce Querel, at Querel Trailers with the new Xp3 stand. His experience in this industry and testing Xp3 told him this is a product to stand behind and offer to his customers. This is a CTM favorite as Bruce has put an article in CTM in the past and more in the future I hope as he is in my opinion the trailer expert. Not only how they are built and what is junk and what not, but what you can legally use and what you should be using. Querel Trailers has been providing contractors, road builders, forestry professionals and long haulers with quality new and used semi-trailers for over seven years. News from the borders.

Some ports of entry may seem so non suspect for things such as smuggling, you know, the smaller ones such as Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle, Quebec port of entry. Well on August 20, 2014 15,330 kg of contraband tobacco was discovered by CBSA Officers. In a semitrailer this truck driver was referred for a complete secondary examination where the 15,330 kg of bulk tobacco was found hidden behind boxes of fresh vegetables. Driver was arrested by the RCMP for smuggling. A Brantford, ON truck driver, Craig Moses, 52, recently plead guilty for unloading chicken that was not authorized to stay in Canada which is a violation of the Customs Act. The chicken was supposed to be dropped off in the U.S.A. Twice while driving his tractor-trailer loads of frozen chicken through Canada shortcutting through Michigan and New York, the driver chose to unload some of the chicken onto a trailer in Hamilton, ON, meaning that the chicken had entered the Canadian market without being inspected which is a health risk to Canadian consumers or taxed which the selling of gives illegal importers an advantage monetary wise. 20

Moses was fined $20,000. Moses’ trailer had a seal that should have remained intact while en route in Canada but was found broken during the illegal unloading. Moses was unaware that officers across Ontario had been watching his truck from Sarnia to Hamilton and he was observed conducting this illegal unloading. Moses no longer works as a transport truck driver and the possible impact on the Canadian food safety is irreparable. A random pull over search of a semi-truck by the California Highway Patrol uncovered $3 million worth of cocaine in the Panama Lane at Highway 99 in Bakersfield, California.

The truck driver, Tsoi JeeLeung from Ontario, Canada was arrested by the CHP after the officers along with their trusted police dog found 83 kilos of cocaine in his truck. Let’s not leave the airport out of this smuggling picture. 37.5 kilograms of cocaine were discovered Lowell Edwin Nickerson, 60 hidden in three shipments of mayears old from Florida was caught trying chine parts from Panama at the to smuggle a loaded revolver through Toronto Pearson airport recently. the port of Winkler, MB. CBSA examined Nickerson’s car on July 19, 2014 and found a loaded .22 calibre revolver under his drivers seat, he was arrested and two days later found guilty of two counts under the customs act. Nickerson was ordered to pay a $13,000 and sentenced to three days. Next time sir; please keep your guns at home. CBSA officers arrested four people after a multi-agency investigation: Philmore Jarvis, 47, Michelle Maraj, 36, and Wilson Jaramillo, 37, all from Mississauga, and Vernon Bouillion, 38, of Milton. All four were charge with importing a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking. Guess they didn’t get the memo that drug smuggling and trafficking is illegal. Speaking of memos, I guess the Americans haven’t yet received their memo that smuggling guns into Canada is illegal.

Women In Trucking Partners with Girl Scouts to Launch Brand-New “Transportation Patch” By; Ellen Voie CAE, President/CEO Women in Trucking

Dozens of area Girl Scouts now have one more patch to showcase their interest in learning about something new – the Women in Trucking Association awarded its first Transportation Patch this week.

There were 84 Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana, ages 5-12, who spent half a day at Olive-Harvey College learning about the transportation industry from experts.

“The opportunity to reach young women in the Girl Scout program to tell them about career opportunities in transportation supports this objective. The Girl Scouts who earned their patch in transportation learned about an important segment of our economy while getting an up close view of a tractor trailer in a fun filled day of learning. We are thrilled to pilot this patch in the greater Chicago area and look forward to seeing it expand throughout the United States.”

At the event, the Girl Scouts completed a vehicle inspection, climbed into the cab of a semi-truck and built a truck out of paper. Attendees also heard a presentation from Lenora Hardee, Chief Technical Engineer at Navistar, who spoke about her career and the opportunities in the industry. Truex and Pollex, a native of Michigan whose father, Greg, owned a NASCAR team from 1993 to 2006, met about eight years ago when she was working in racing public relations and he was working to build his career on-track. Their relationship grew quickly, and Truex, renting a house from then-teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr., moved in with Pollex. Later, they bought a house in Mooresville, N.C., near Lake Norman in a popular residential area for NASCAR families. They've been a couple since, Truex winning two Nationwide Series championships and breaking into Sprint Cup victory lane while Pollex built relationships with other drivers' wives and girlfriends, opened a popular Mooresville boutique shop called Lavendar and helped Truex start the Martin Truex Jr. Foundation. The pre-race kiss, a staple of the last moments between a race car driver and significant other before the green flag drops, was especially poignant in the bright Talladega Superspeedway sunshine this month for driver Martin Truex Jr. and his long-time girlfriend, Sherry Pollex. Pollex was at a race track for only the second time since she had surgery Aug. 15 for ovarian cancer, just one week after the diagnosis that rocked Truex, his Furniture Row Racing Sprint Cup team and many of the families in the tight neighborhood of the NASCAR drivers' motorhome compound. With a large hat protecting her head from the sun, Pollex greeted friends, some of whom were seeing her for the first time since her diagnosis and surgery. It was more of a homecoming than an occasion for talking about the hard rains that had fallen on her life. There was a short pit-road prayer, a final word between the two and another kiss. And Truex was off to the races, into the only place — the cockpit of a race car — he has been able to escape tough realities. Over the course of the Talladega afternoon, he led a lap for the first time in what has been a difficult season ontrack in his first year with the tiny one-car team. The sense of excitement and anticipation up and down pit road was palpable in the minutes preceding the final race in the second round of the Chase for the Sprint Cup as 12 drivers prepared to run to stay alive in the playoffs. For Truex, not in the championship running, it was simply a day to appreciate things were as they should be — his arm around his girlfriend, her head on his shoulder as race-day festivities swirled around them. Life has been a complex web of hospital rooms, chemotherapy treatments and days and nights of dreading what might be next in their fight against Stage III ovarian cancer (IV is the most serious). "We lived our life in fourth gear all the time," Pollex, 35, told USA TODAY Sports via telephone. "We were constantly running. I ran a business and Martin's foundation and travel full-

time with him. I never stopped. So adjusting to a new normal and having to put your life in first gear and learn that your body can't run like that any more is the biggest adjustment for me." It has been a particularly rough journey for Truex, who sees the ebbs and flows of a battle that will stretch far beyond laps, miles and seasons. "It's been a rollercoaster ride," Truex told USA TODAY Sports from his Martin Truex Jr. Motorsports shop in Mooresville, N.C. "It changes daily. You go through all different emotions from sad to mad, why the hell, why us. But at the end of the day, we're no different from anybody else who's had cancer. "At first, I was shocked. Thought I was dreaming. ... It puts things in perspective real quick. All this stuff I've been mad about before and thought was a big deal, it's nothing." Truex and Pollex, a native of Michigan whose father, Greg, owned a NASCAR team from 1993 to 2006, met about eight years ago when she was working in racing public relations and he was working to build his career on-track.

Foundation. The foundation's emphasis over its seven-year life has been assisting children and families touched by pediatric cancer. Pollex has been one of the biggest boosters for Charlotte-area children facing surgeries and treatments. Now, the disease she has been targeting for years has hit her. Pollex said she began feeling ill in mid-summer and was certain something wasn't quite right. But doctor visits produced no solid diagnosis. "She had gone to three or four doctors, and they couldn't figure out what was going on," Truex said. "This went on for a couple of months. ... Finally, we got her to a surgeon — a friend of a friend — in Lake Norman. He said right away, 'Let's do a CT scan.' "They did the scan. Two hours later, he called and told us to come down to the office. Right away he told us, 'You have ovarian cancer.' " Neither Pollex nor Truex knew anything about the disease, one that affects only about 22,000 women in the United States annually, according to the American Cancer Society.

They had just begun serious consideration of having their first child. Pollex said she initially thought she was sick because she might be pregnant. "I had stopped taking birth-control pills," she said. "As soon as I had the CT scan and heard the diagnosis, I did ask if I could save my eggs. The doctor told me there was no time for that. He said, 'We have to get you to surgery in the next few days, or you're going to die.' "There was no time to think about the fact that I was devastated that I could never be a mother. I don't know what hit me worse – the devastation that I couldn't carry my own child or the devastation that I had Stage III cancer. To hear all that in a matter of five minutes — it was so hard." The operation lasted several hours. Pollex's appendix, spleen, ovaries, fallopian tubes and part of her stomach were removed. "They pretty much took everything that I didn't need to survive because the cancer was everywhere," Pollex said. She was hospitalized for eight days and four weeks later began weekly chemotherapy treatments that will last into January. For Pollex, the road ahead is tough and uncertain. "But cancer has never met someone like Sherry," Truex said. "She's very determined and hard-working. She will be the person that can change the way this all works for other women — for increasing awareness and helping other people not get in this position. That will be something she can really make a difference with. She will make stuff happen." First, though, there is the goal of pushing the cancer into remission. After hearing the diagnosis, the couple sought information on the Internet, an avenue taken by many who receive bad medical news. There they ran into the equivalent of an evil abacus, one spewing out negative numbers about survival rates and chances of recurrence. "It's the worst thing you can do," Truex said. "It's hard not to. You want to know what's

43

going on. But it was a nightmare. It was bad, very bad. "Then you have people on social media who try to be nice, saying they're praying for you and they lost their mom to cancer five years ago. Why would you say that? Come on, people. Thanks for thinking of us, but you don't have to tell us your mom died. We're trying to be strong and think positive." Pollex, who receives weekly chemotherapy treatments through a port in her stomach, said her reaction has been relatively mild, although she tires easily. She has lost her hair and several pounds in addition to the 22 she lost while hospitalized. She's anxious, she said, to put the treatments behind her and to work closely with the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance to promote awareness of a disease she said receives relatively little attention in the broader war against cancer. She pointed out how the color pink paints much of the sports landscape in October during Breast Cancer Awareness Month. NFL players wear pink gloves, shoes and other items, and NASCAR race cars often carry pink paint schemes. "September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, and the color is teal, but I never knew that," she said. "Now Martin runs the teal ribbon on his car every weekend. It's important for us to educate people. It's something that people are very na誰ve about, and we're going to try to change that. If I had been properly educated about my disease, it would have greatly changed my outcome. With earlier diagnosis, I would have had a survival rate of 85 percent. My survival rate now is less than 30. "I don't know if I'm going to be here in five years. I don't know if I'm going to be here in two years. All I can do right now is fight and try to help other women so they don't make the same mistake. "I'm a fighter. I'm not going to lie down and let it take me. To me, every day is a gift. I don't miss much. I'm making memories. I hope in the end I can come out healthy

44

and spend the rest of my life educating women about this." Truex and Pollex have a strong network of friends and among the closest are driver Ryan Newman and his wife, Krissie. "Sherry is like a sister to me," said Krissie Newman. "I try to be there as much as I can for her and Martin. Ryan and I try to be people they can lean on, run errands, whatever they need. It's kind of hard, at the same time. You don't want to be an overbearing person when they want space. But we do consider them family, so we do whatever we can possibly do to help. "She's a fighter. She's so strong in her faith."

Truex, 34, said there was never a question in his mind about Pollex's response to what has been a difficult, emotionally charged challenge. "She's tough, man," he said. "Damn tough. She broke her ankle a while back and limped around on it for a week. She thought she sprained it." And she has to be. "It's hard to go out in public," she said. "... There are some days I just want to go to Target and be normal. And I can't do that. But it feels like I've been through so much over the past few months that I'm just happy to be alive." Furniture Row Racing general manager Joe

Garone told team members the news in a morning meeting, and he said the team has rallied around the couple despite the cross-country nature of their relationship. Furniture Row is based in Denver. Truex landed there after the Chase fixing scandal at Michael Waltrip Racing last September eventually cost him a ride with the loss of sponsor NAPA. What I see is Martin putting that front up, as well, being there and being strong for her. We're doing that together. We feel that same way for him," Garone said. After the diagnosis, team owner Barney Visser offered Truex the opportunity to skip the rest of the Sprint Cup season if his everyday presence at home would help. Truex missed a practice and qualifying session at Michigan International Speedway to be with Pollex during and after her surgery. "I did think about not racing the rest of the year," Truex said. "But I would go crazy. There's just no way I could do it. I missed one practice and one qualifying day, and I was spun the hell out. "I need racing. It's like my drug." Pollex and Truex continue to work on his foundation goals and in planning May's annual Catwalk for a Cause, its major fund-raiser. Catwalk is an evening fashion show that features NASCAR personalities wearing designer clothing, and children battling pediatric cancer also are part of the show. Sandy Plemmons, executive director of the Truex Foundation, remembers Pollex interacting with one of the cancer patients, a Charlotte teenager named Madison, last year. "Madison has leukemia and had lost all her hair and wore a wig," Plemmons said. "She had never been seen in public without it. Sherry told her, 'You're so beautiful. Let it shine. Let people see how beautiful you are.' "Madison took off the wig and walked out on the runway, and the place just exploded in applause. 'This year,' Sherry said, 'I'll be standing on that stage with my babies and I'll know exactly what they've been through.' "

Angie talks with Marc Spring

Marc Springer from A&E’s hit TV show “Shipping Wars” recently decided to do some upgrades to his venerable Kenworth T600 he drives on the show. Marc often gets asked the question: “With your success in trucking and as a TV personality, why not buy yourself a brand new truck”? “The answer is simple” explains Marc “this truck has become the most recognizable truck on the road today.

68

Plus, its paid for”! He goes on to say: “When I drive my truck, I’m working for me. Not the bank or the finance company, not the insurance companies, etc… this give you a lot of freedom. Sure maintenance costs can be higher but in the end, I love my truck and I’m keeping her”! When it comes to upgrades, Marc could have taken the Kenworth anywhere he wanted. He chose the best: Brunner Fabrication in Joplin, MO. Brunner Fabrication is rooted in one principal: crafting premium accessories for truck drivers and building quality metal fabrication projects for a variety of companies. Since 1986 that has been Brunner’s primary purpose in every project they tackle. Each individual’s needs are intricate; it is never just a “run-of-the-mill project”. That’s why Brunner delivers exactly what each individual is looking for.

ger about his working Show Truck

From standard, customized or full blown custom projects, Brunner does it all. Brothers, Larry and Ron Brunner, opened Brunner Fabrication as way to provide industries and truckers their unique welding skills flavored with innovative craftsmanship. With passion and creativity driving the staff, Brunner constructs custom metal projects for companies of all sizes, with clients ranging from small businesses to Fortune 500 companies. Brunner’s extensive capabilities allow them to construct a wide variety of metal projects; from

travel kennels to bed springs to high-end truck accessories. And Brunner is proud to say that all of their products are 100% made in the U.S.A. Located in Joplin, Missouri, Brunner’s work extends across the United States thanks to their commitment to producing superior metal fabrication results. Not only does Brunner offer world-class quality, they also deliver world-class customer service. Every day the crew at Brunner comes to work with one goal in mind— craft quality metal fabrication projects and admirable truck accessories that make our customers shine! As you can see, Brunner certainly worked their magic on Marc’s rig, transforming it into a functioning show piece. Marc said “When I arrived to pick up my truck, I was absolutely blown away by the quality and craftsmanship of the work that Brunner performed on my truck. It is obvious that Brunner truly understand what a man’s truck means to him”

It seems like yesterday but 40 years ago Jack Shields and his 3 sons (Clarence, Jim & John) started their first restaurant an A&W, in a small northern town called Fort McMurray. At that time there were less then 5,000 people living in that community. From there they expanded to include the Fort’s first Smitty’s Pancake House & Diary Queen franchises, the Garden Cafe, Willies and Oriellys & the Stags Head Inn. As Fort McMuuray continued to grow so did the Shields family business. In 1986 after the introduction of the Liberal National Energy Program the family lost all their business and were forced to start all over again. Some 25 years ago Jack and Clarence started all over again by operating a restaurant located the Nisku Truck Stop. From there they continued to grow acquiring the Airways Country Inn and numerous other business interests. Brother Jim and his wife Jody ventured off to start a successful greenhouse operation, while John continued on with an award winning career in radio. Blackjacks Roadhouse and Games Room is a brand new building been created to host Clarence’s latest vision, this outstanding and beautiful building features amazing truss work and a 2nd floor grand stage over- looking our room. They boast the best buffet in the area, as well as a great Canadian & Chinese cuisine menu. Our games room is furnished with 25 V.L.T.s, 5 Minute Keno, Sports Select. Watch and play all the sports from our comfortable lounge. Trucker Friendly Please come by anytime and enjoy our menu and great service. Open 24 hours a day featuring specials daily. Spend some time wandering around looking at one of the largest collection of oilfield, trucking and car racing memorabilia dating back some 100 + years.

Waterfowl Evolution

PNW Productions is pleased to introduce “Waterfowl Evolution, a new breed of outdoor television show focused on the passion for waterfowl hunting. Starting January 2015 Waterfowl Evolution will air new episodes on The Pursuit Channel. With hunts in Alberta all the way down to Louisiana, focusing on history, education, conservation, getting the youth involved, and (of course), epic hunts, the hosts of Waterfowl Evolution, Ryan Swartz, Stuart Harr, Austin Lindsey and Troy Cunningham share with the world their passion for the outdoors and everything Waterfowl. R y a n Swartz's father started him hunting at the young age of four. When he turned six, he got his first rifle, a .22. When Ryan turned eight, he got himself a singleshot 20 gauge shotgun. Needless to say, he's had the passion for hunting waterfowl ever since. He enjoys the camaraderie of being in the blind. 76

During the off season he's either fishing or hunting other game. It's hard to find Ryan indoors, and if you ever have the chance to meet him, it will most likely be outdoors where he loves sharing the experience with others. Stuart Harr got into hunting 12 years ago after he purchased his first shotgun. He was introduced to the sport by means of "self-inviting" himself to go hunting with one of the guys from work.

There was just something about that first trip he will always remember. Sleeping in the blind to hold their spot while the other guys went back to get the rest of the decoys was a totally new experience for him. That trip sparked a passion in Stuart, one to chase ducks and geese. It is a passion that he had never known until that day and it still burns strong today. Stuart would like to pass on his love for the sport, not only to his son, but also to every young hunter he meets. Stuart would like this sport to be around for generations and believes it will be, as long as we stay involved with groups like Ducks Unlimited and Delta Waterfowl. Austin Lindsey has been a fireman for the last 8 years following in his father’s footsteps. Austin’s dad taught him about the outdoors and hunting. His father showed him what it means to be passionate about life both in your job and other aspects of life such as your hobby. Austin was introduced to waterfowl hunting shortly after becoming a career fireman and, much like his job, it became an immediate passion. Austin has always enjoyed dogs and wanted a lab to share a blind with. (Pictured Center)

77

He has a natural knack for training and it quickly became his focus during the offseason. He now has Diesel who is coming up on 3 years old and a new black lab female puppy named Hallie.

Troy has been featured on many TV shows including Waterfowl TV, Okie wild TV, On the Water and in the Woods with Cody and Cody, etc‌ Stuart, Ryan and Austin have also been featured for three consecutive seasons on Pur-

Austin spends his off days training his dogs with a local retriever club. Whether Austin is at work, in a duck blind, or out training his dogs he strives to be the best he can be and help others better themselves as well. Troy Cunningham of Legend Waterfowl is a Master Guide has been leading guided hunts all over the US and Canada for the last 23 years.

suit as well as The Sportsman Channel.

78

If you are an avid hunter, lover of the outdoors, or just curious, Waterfowl Evolution is sure to entertain!

Tune in to The Pursuit Channel starting January 2015 and join the guys as they travel across the US and Canada on what is sure to be the adventure of a lifetime!
