Weather is coming and already coming to the mountains. To the right here I have 2 of the hotels I stay in whilst enjoying beautiful British Columbia Canada, AKA the Rocks AKA the Rock Pile. As an owner operator heading west I would stop in Golden, grab a Truckers rate at the Ponderosa and enjoy the hot tub, bed, shower and shave as well as internet to catch up on the laptop. Getting a Hotel is cheaper than running the truck and even now not owning but driving a truck the welcome time out of the truck for room time and idiot box noise works for me for the super low CTM rate. I like taking 5 back through Wells Gray as it is flat, not likely to be closed for any reason and I stop at Wells Gray Inn, again the great CTM rate. It is not to much longer going through Edmonton. In talking about Edmonton have to mention the Yellowhead Inn there. Page 27 this month is there Ad and support for your magazine. The Yellowhead Inn has been fully renovated and is the most trucker friendly Hotel you can walk into. Even the front desk is a truck grill. Some people have opinions on the Roadking in Calgary and mine is I stay and eat there. They give me a CTM rate and I have coupons for J’s and the breakfast there is great. I mention these places as not to advertise but when you read page 5 you will understand it is important to get out of the truck. I have done this for years at these spots, even before the magazine, so I sought out these chosen few to advertise in our magazine here to spread the word and idea to instead of dropping money someplace else, invest it in you and a place to have a good nights rest! I like to say again thanks for reading CTM and I look forward to hearing from you than about you. Be safe my friends! Happy Trails.....

PTSD by Dave MacKENZIE, Editor Publisher ~ Truck Driver Some might wonder what is with the PTSD ?? Soldiers ?? Rescue Workers ?? Ya but Truck drivers??
Well PTSD is a very important subject to all of us and especially Trucking, Police, Fire, Rescue and Military. I have added this article again as I had so much feedback last month. If you can relate to the picture on the right there is a good chance you may have it. I have 6 close friends that are truck drivers that have been involved in accidents where people have died as a result of a transport 4 wheeler accident. A few left the truck to try to help the victims to find sights a person should never see. Do they have PTSD you bet they do and may not even know it. PTSD may be caused by accumulative incidences; this is what can affect transport drivers the most. constant stress caused by traffic and tight schedules, seeing horrendous accidents or assisting as first on the scene to accidents or seeing the sheet covered bodies can cause accumulative PTSD along with isolation of the job, we may not be able to talk about whatever emotions we are going through. This all builds up, “accumulation” till we lash out at Dispatchers, Customs, Shippers or anyone that triggers you to release. PTSD is a very treatable mental illness and nothing to be ashamed of. If you think that you might be suffering from it by having continued nightmares, anxiety, depression, stress or outbursts, that you feel sorry about after, or worse don’t, then by all means do not hesitate to see someone to get some help with this disorder. All kinds of help is available including your brothers and sisters on the road.
Look for stops that have a pub you can go into, not pounding down beers, that too has it’s problems, but have a water or coffee and enjoy some music, company and again jokes and stories. Seeking professional help for PTSD is nothing now to be ashamed of because you have earned this by your service to the people around you. Without you going down the road the shelves would be empty, fuel pumps dry and chaos in the streets. So Truckers deserve some understanding. A lot of my brothers and sisters on the road have served and seen some ugly things. There are true Veterans Clubs like ANAVETS where you can meet with like minded people like you anywhere in NA and tell stories and sip water. I attend these Clubs and have Friends who served as Police, Military, Prison Guards and Rescue works, not to mention one postman, that can attest to the great therapy being with friends and like minded people can produce. If you take anything away from my writings here, isolation is our worst enemy! We do have a social network out there called truck stops that are conducive to a social club, please find them, please use them. When you see me out there, stop me and have a coffee my ears are always yours and my time is for my readers and brothers and sisters of the road. This is my Therapy after years of TruckDon’t hide in your truck alone ing, Police & Military service, as I too have PTSD after driving alone 10, 13 hours, get and fight it with humous and the friendship of my into the truck stop and sit and tell sto- fans.

Where to Eat by Dave Celebrity Publisher Canadian Trucking Magazine
Okay we all know we should eat healthy and fast food or greasy spoons are no good for us as look at me now 50lbs way too heavy! But on the road, where do we eat? I don’t have to tell the silver back driver that a fridge in the truck with good healthy food is the cheapest and best bet, but in my article about PTSD, I also say don’t become a hermit in the truck. Also if you eat 2 healthy meals in the truck you can have one at a good stop and enjoy the special. In coming articles I will identify from you and me being there places that the cost and food won’t kill you! I have breakfast at J’s Wok at my favorite RoadKing Travel center in Calgary Alberta Canada and love it, both food and price and the open are with loads going on.
When I travel states side I will eat breakfast like Oatmeal in the truck with raisins and milk then find a Golden Coral for lunch, Big Lunch, then a sandwich for supper in the truck but will go into the stop I am at for coffee. A plug for the Golden, everything you want, healthy and not and cheap at lunch and most have truck parking near by. In Canada I often thought about a guide for new drivers as there are really driver friendly stops with good food and then there are ones you regret when eating there and for hours afterwards. Send me some of your best stops by email pr FB and lets make this list! Happy Trails Dave

News from the borders.
Some ports of entry may seem so non suspect for things such as smuggling, you know, the smaller ones such as Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle, Quebec port of entry. Well on August 20, 2014 15,330 kg of contraband tobacco was discovered by CBSA Officers. In a semitrailer this truck driver was referred for a complete secondary examination where the 15,330 kg of bulk tobacco was found hidden behind boxes of fresh vegetables. Driver was arrested by the RCMP for smuggling. A Brantford, ON truck driver, Craig Moses, 52, recently plead guilty for unloading chicken that was not authorized to stay in Canada which is a violation of the Customs Act. The chicken was supposed to be dropped off in the U.S.A. Twice while driving his tractor-trailer loads of frozen chicken through Canada shortcutting through Michigan and New York, the driver chose to unload some of the chicken onto a trailer in Hamilton, ON, meaning that the chicken had entered the Canadian market without being inspected which is a health risk to Canadian consumers or taxed which the selling of gives illegal importers an advantage monetary wise. 10
Moses was fined $20,000. Moses’ trailer had a seal that should have remained intact while en route in Canada but was found broken during the illegal unloading. Moses was unaware that officers across Ontario had been watching his truck from Sarnia to Hamilton and he was observed conducting this illegal unloading. Moses no longer works as a transport truck driver and the possible impact on the Canadian food safety is irreparable. A random pull over search of a semi-truck by the California Highway Patrol uncovered $3 million worth of cocaine in the Panama Lane at Highway 99 in Bakersfield, California.
The truck driver, Tsoi JeeLeung from Ontario, Canada was arrested by the CHP after the officers along with their trusted police dog found 83 kilos of cocaine in his truck. Let’s not leave the airport out of this smuggling picture. 37.5 kilograms of cocaine were discovered Lowell Edwin Nickerson, 60 hidden in three shipments of mayears old from Florida was caught trying chine parts from Panama at the to smuggle a loaded revolver through Toronto Pearson airport recently. the port of Winkler, MB. CBSA examined Nickerson’s car on July 19, 2014 and found a loaded .22 calibre revolver under his drivers seat, he was arrested and two days later found guilty of two counts under the customs act. Nickerson was ordered to pay a $13,000 and sentenced to three days. Next time sir; please keep your guns at home. CBSA officers arrested four people after a multi-agency investigation: Philmore Jarvis, 47, Michelle Maraj, 36, and Wilson Jaramillo, 37, all from Mississauga, and Vernon Bouillion, 38, of Milton. All four were charge with importing a controlled substance and possession for the purpose of trafficking. Guess they didn’t get the memo that drug smuggling and trafficking is illegal. Speaking of memos, I guess the Americans haven’t yet received their memo that smuggling guns into Canada is illegal.

Carolynne Miss May CTM Xp3’d me at the RoadKing Truck Stop in Calgary AB, Canada.
I put the juice in my tanks and noticed the power change right off, I pulled Scott Lake Hill, hit bottom at 100k and went over top at 85k, and just split to direct at botom because running 3.55 rears in my Pete. Never dropped below 1300 what a major diffference. Then unbelivable I got 8.48 mpg pulling fully loaded tri from Winnipeg MB to Dead Man’s Flats. Canada is now starting to see more truck drivers and owner operators smiling and feeling better about their businesses after they experience first-hand benefits of the new Xp3 Fuel Enhancer. Xp3 is a non-petroleum based, biodegradable blend of synthetic resins and organic compounds engineered to maximize the full potential of diesel by providing a more complete combustion of the fuel. It improves fuel economy, reduces soot, pollution and toxic emissions, safely and completely disperses water into a burnable fuel, lubricates and cleans injectors, removes sludge and carbon deposits, 32
provides cold weather protection against gelling and waxing, improves pour point, protects against corrosion, stabilizes fuel, provides antialgae protection, is an effective biocide, extends engine life and reduces maintenance costs including extended oil change intervals, contains no abrasive, toxic or harmful compounds and does not void engine manufacturer’s warranties. By enhancing the fuel’s combustion properties, Xp3 extracts more efficiency and power out of every combustion stroke, a more complete burn equals more power generated. This means better performance, less unburnt hydrocarbons and toxic emissions, improved DPF regen cycles, reduced DEF consumption and increased fuel economy. Dating back to 1989, Xp3 was created by Xp Lab Inc., in San Diego, CA to treat and enhance bunker fuels used in ocean freighters and marine ships. Today, Xp3 is currently sold in over 27 countries through appointed Master Distributors. In January 2014, Repstar Agencies Inc., a multi-line manufacturer’s rep firm from Ile Des Chenes, MB secured Master Distribution rights to Xp3 for Canada. “Xp3 is a unique and important product for many Canadian businesses operating diesel powered equipment” says Marc Palud, President of Repstar Agencies. “Being able to solve 10+ fuel related problems with a non-toxic, commercial grade concentrated formula is both convenient and profitable for all diesel equipment users in the Canadian economy”. Xp3 is sold through select Truck Stops, Warehouse Distributors and Dealers serving industries and customers operating all types of diesel powered equipment. For more information on Xp3 and for Dealer inquiries, call Marc Palud at 1-800-507-4107 or email Marc@RepstarAgencies.com. www.Xp3Canada.com - www.XpLab.com Watch for me on the road and I will have a bottle or two with me!

In her second full season as a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver, Danica Patrick has made significant strides. Among those who are paying attention? Try Jimmie Johnson, the reigning and six-time Sprint Cup Series champion.
"She's been quick," said Johnson, speaking at a media event earlier this week at Charlotte Motor Speedway. "There's been Atlanta, Loudon last week, Chicago, (where) she's shown a lot of pace in really getting the car figured out. I can only imagine how difficult it is to come from an open-wheel car to a stock car. We've seen Dario (Franchitti), Juan (Pablo Montoya), many try it, and it's not an easy transition, and she's doing a really nice job." Patrick, in her second season as a full-time Sprint Cup driver after two years in the Nationwide Series that followed a lengthy run in the IndyCar Series, has three top-10 finishes in 28 races this season. While that may not be a stat worth celebrating, it's certainly a marked improvement from last year's rookie campaign when she recorded only one top 10 over the entire 36race schedule. Patrick also has qualified much better this season under the new "knockout"-style format, and seems to be gaining confidence with almost every outing. Patrick has finished in the top 20 in five of the past six races, with the highlight being a career-best sixth-place finish at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Labor Day weekend. With eight races still remaining in the 2014, NASCAR's most recognizable female hopes to continue her climb in Sunday's AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway, one of the toughest tracks on the NASCAR circuit and one where Patrick has struggled.
General Jimmie: Six-time champ trades his No. 48 car for a World War II tank "It can be a real challenge," Patrick said of the high-banked, 1-mile oval. "It's quite quick, and when you come off turns two and four, it drops you down like a roller coaster. You just have to have a good setup and make sure everything is working right, or it can be a long day. It's actually a pretty long race, so you have to be prepared. But it's a fun track and I'm looking forward to it." In four Sprint Cup starts at "The Monster Mile," Patrick has never finished better than 23rd and never come home fewer than four laps down. Despite her dearth of success, Patrick actually likes racing at the Delaware venue.
"The track is pretty fun," she said. "I remember everyone telling me how unique and challenging Dover was prior to my first race. At the time, I didn't have a whole lot to compare that track to. They said it was like a larger version of Bristol, but I hadn't raced at Bristol yet, either. It's nice to have more of a handle on what to expect heading in there now.
"Dover is fun. It's fast and it can make for a really long day of racing. I think that's part of the appeal of it -- how demanding it can be. We definitely want to stay out of trouble, which is easier said than done at these types of tracks."
"Everyone just works hard, and it's paying off," Patrick said. "We actually should have finished better at New Hampshire (19th) but the yellows at the end probably didn't help. We're just getting better. Tony Gibson (crew chief) and the GoDaddy guys are giving me really good cars, and we just keep finishing better. I haven't run that well at Dover, but we've done better at all the tracks we've been to lately, so we're ready."
