Much has been made of the so called Covid Vaccine passports, with many theatres, concert halls and festivals requiring proof of double vaccination or negative test, so it’s worth investigating which venues need visitors to comply before offering tours to avoid any glitches on arrival.

The industry will bounce back redefined to meet pent-up demand and deliver the needs of a post-pandemic world. There’s no place like home With social needs and wanderlust building to tipping point, organisers should expect a surge in demand in the near future, especially for the new holiday of choice: staycations. Coach Touring I The Coach Tourism Association

The Coach Tourism Association uncertainty about their programmes for later in 2021 as we all await clarification on when it will be possible to run continental programmes unhindered by Covid restrictions and quarantining. The past two years have been incredibly difficult for the whole sector but the thing that shines through is the remarkable resilience of the operators and suppliers within tourism. It is humbling to see how coach operators, the majority of which are small, family-run businesses, have coped with the challenges and have retained their determination to ride out the storm and come back stronger.

Loyal customers welcome return of coach tours across UK and Ireland

With the continuing relaxation of lockdowns and Covid restrictions, it’s great to see coach tours out on the roads across the UK. There are of course slightly different approaches in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland but it is wonderful to see photos of happy customers out enjoying themselves once again. There has been no doubt that the pent-up demand has been there with many operators reporting strong bookings and retention of loyal customers who are only too glad to be able to sit back and relax once again as their coach driver takes the strain and transports them to new places. It’s been far too long since we’ve been able to capture those good times and memories that sustain us all as social beings, so the return of coach tours is a real boost. CTA has been encouraging operators to give feedback on their current tours as part

of the WeLoveCoaches campaign which has dedicated social media channels to promote coach holidays and excursions. Starting new Facebook and Instagram channels from scratch CTA is building an enthusiastic audience who are being directed to our new welovecoaches.com website which gives direct links to all operator members.

Of course, there are still some parts of the industry who are still waiting for a restart, including continental tours. Coach tours to Europe remain a popular product, and many operators face continuing challenges with

We’ve been delighted with the response and the evident pleasure of customers at some great locations. And we have now seen the first coach tour return to Ireland and Northern Ireland with CTA member Edwards Coaches taking its first group on the ferry on 19 July, as well as Scottish operator Maynes Holidays take its first group to Liverpool for a Beatles Tour. Speaking of Liverpool, we are delighted to confirm that CTA’s first live event for members will be hosted in the city on 27-28 September. It will be more than 18 months since our last CTA event which was held in York, and members are clearly desperate to get together again. There are a number of

The abbey was closed in 1539 by the order of King Henry VIII. The last abbot is believed to have retired to the inner gatehouse, now Abbey House Museum. The land was owned privately until purchased by Colonel North in 1889. He presented the land to the city of Leeds and it opened as a public park in 1895. Christmas 2021 Ho, ho ho, this year there’s no excuse (or restrictions, thank goodness), get out there and enjoy all that’s on offer this season and definitely no bah humbugs allowed.

Belvoir Castle Announces its Spectacular Regency Christmas 15 November 2021 – 5 January 2022 The biggest and most spectacular festive season at Belvoir Castle has been announced with a limited number of early bird tickets released for the Leicestershire’s castle A Regency Christmas.

Taking inspiration the Duke and Duchess of Rutland’s family insignia, this fairytale castle will be dripping with peacock-inspired décor; trees will be draped in Belvoir colours of blue, gold and red; opulent rooms set in

individual rooms will inform the designs with an immense Peacock Tree in the Elizabeth Saloon where this motif features heavily. Further inspiration is taken from other stunning Regency interiors such as the Brighton Pavilion built for the Prince Regent who was a frequent visitor to Belvoir along with his brother the Duke of York, reportedly the lover of Elizabeth, 5th Duchess of Rutland.

that Christmas was largely invented by the Victorians. However interior trees were used by the Georgians, following the German tradition particularly in aristocratic houses but would more commonly have been a Yew tree. We will be adding our own interpretative twist and the house will display contemporary decorations that hark back to this beautiful decorative period.”

Another highlight will be the feature Regency tree decorated in the original manner along with a spectacular Kissing Bough, an ancient English custom that featured heavily during the Regency period.

Archivists at the Castle are poring over the diary entries and other memorabilia to bring out stories of the era as part of the festivities. Castle house manager Anna Field said: “This Christmas, we invite you to become our guest for the festive season at Belvoir and allow us to transport you back to a world ruled by elegance and etiquette. We are so excited to be presenting A Regency Christmas set in what is surely England’s finest Regency home, the scene of many glamorous balls, elegant parties, intimate suppers along with a good dash of romance and intrigue.”

Opening on 15 November, the Regency Castle’s rooms will be lavishly decorated by renowned designer Charlotte Lloyd Webber, who made her name for her Christmas installations at Castle Howard, winning the UK Heritage Award for Best Event in 2018. Rebuilt in the early 1800s to a design by the youthful 5th Duchess of Rutland, the Regency Castle boasts a treasure trove of stunning binge-worthy interiors to thrill the most avid Bridgerton fan.

With the Netflix blockbuster igniting interest in all things Regency in popular culture today, and season two coming out later this year, the appetite for an authentic Regency experience this Christmas is set to be huge.

readiness for a party and other surprises to whisk the visitor into the world of Regency romance. Rooms will be decorated to highlight the High Regency interiors from the Guard Room, Ballroom, Elizabeth Saloon, State Dining Room and Picture Gallery to the Kings Suite Bedrooms and Regents Gallery.

Charlotte Lloyd Webber said: “We are delighted to be working with Belvoir to design its first major Christmas event that will highlight in spectacular festive fashion some of the most famous and gorgeous interiors of this fairy tale Regency castle, which happily is currently very in vogue on the back of the Bridgerton Netflix series.

Coldharbour Mill is one of the UK’s oldest working woollen mills. Set in the heart of the Devon countryside and on the bank of the River Culm, this industrial heritage site brings to life the stories of the Industrial Revolution and Textile production through the ages.

You can see a full range of heritage machinery in action, see them fire up their steam boilers and engines on their event days or enjoy their wetland, wellbeing and wildlife space as a chance to relax and stroll in the beautiful Devon landscape. There has been a mill at Coldharbour, Uffculme, since the time of the Domesday Book, with the current woollen mill in continuous production since 1797.

English Heritage described the mill as "probably one of the best-preserved textile mill complexes in the country. It retains the full range of buildings and power system features which characterised the development of the 19th century textile mill with much of the machinery that was used at the site in the 20th century."
