I would like to congratulate the Ravens men’s basketball team and coach Dave Smart for another incredible season. It was amazing to watch this team’s journey as they developed into a CIS championship contender and earned Carleton’s unprecedented 10th consecutive berth in the Final 8. I would also like to thank the AUS Organizing Committee and the CIS for their hard work and dedication in hosting the CIS Final 8 Men’s Basketball Championship. As well, thank you, the media, for covering this tremendous event and showcasing our highly talented student-athletes. Jennifer Brenning Director of Recreation and Athletics

Dave Smart – Head Coach In his 13th season as head coach of the Ravens, Dave Smart has been the driving force behind the men’s program. With Smart at the helm, the Ravens have a combined regular and postseason record of 340 wins and just 30 losses. After being ranked No. 1 in the country all year long and leading his team to their fifth undefeated season in nine years, Smart was named the OUA East Coach of the Year. It marked his seventh coach of the year nod (2001-03, 2005, 2009, 2011-12). He has led his team to seven OUA Championships (2003-05, 2008-10, 2012) and seven CIS Final 8 national titles in the past nine years, including five straight (20032007, 2009, 2011). Smart has earned CIS Coach of the Year honours four times along the way (2003, 2005, 2009, 2011). Smart has also represented his country on the world stage, acting as head coach of the Canadian men’s basketball team at the 2011 Pan Am Games. He also served as an assistant coach with the 2008 Canadian Senior Men’s National Team. A graduate of Queen’s University, Smart resides in Ottawa where he works tirelessly with the Ottawa Guardsmen Basketball Club to continue to give back to the grassroots of local community basketball, the way he received his start at the beginning of his playing career.

“What separates this program from others is the culture. And I don’t just mean the culture of one particular team, but the culture that Ravens alumni began and have left in our hands to continue. The standard is set high and people are held accountable when they don’t meet the standard.” - Kevin Churchill, third-year forward
