Carleton Camps — CLICK ON ANY CAMP TO REGISTER! Ringette Colleen Hagan – Ringette Camp Director

Colleen’s Credentials & Achievements

• • • • •

Get to know Ringette Camp Director Coleen Hagan: Bio:The game of Ringette has always been something of a gem in my life. I started playing when I was 4yrs old just to fit in with my sisters and cousins. Immediately, I was hooked, and now I’m what you’d call, a “lifer”. As a player, I’ve had many different kinds of success. I’ve played at some big competitions from local tournaments, Provincials, Nationals, Ontario Games, Canada Games, and even Worlds. Some of those competitions we won, others we were just shy, and others, we had unknowingly signed up for a clinic on How to Play Ringette, and we were the guest pylons, or so it seemed. One year, recently, I took the opportunity to go over to Finland and play a full season. I walked away loaded with new energy and excitement, skills, and ideas, for a game, I thought I fully understood. By less traditional standards of success, I’ve met so many wonderful people, and built friendships that stretch across Canada, and even across the ocean. I’ve seen and experienced so much of our beautiful country, and others. I’ve challenged myself to be my very best and I’ve surprised myself at what I could do. My goal, every time I set out to teach the game as I’ve come to learn it, is to help young players be better – be better athletes, better teammates, and better leaders. I hope for each of you to have the same kinds, and more, of different successes that I’ve enjoyed Be better. Be great.

Colleen Hagan, B. Sc. (Human Kinetics), B. Ed. (J/I PE and Health) Player for over 20 years Currently playing in the NRL with Gloucester Cumberland 7 time Provincial Champion National Championships, 2 gold, 4 silver, 3 bronze ‘98 Ontario Winter Games – gold ‘99 Canada Winter Games – gold Finnish National League – silver Team Canada 2004, 2007 World Ringette Championships – 2 silver Coach for 7 years with GCRA at the levels: Tw AA, Jr. AA, and Belle AA Eastern Region AAA, 2004, 2006, 2010

Get to know our Ringette Camp Goalie Instructor,Tori Goble I started playing ringette in January 2007. A teammate on my hockey team played ringette and through her I ended up playing with the Nepean Belle AA team. They only had one goalie so the coaches said for me to go to a practice and just give it a shot. Since then, I couldn’t imagine my life without ringette! In the 2007-08 season I played only ringette as our team goal from the start of the season was to win Nationals, which we accomplished! In fact, it was the first year I didn’t play hockey since 1997. I currently play AA ringette and hockey, and I find that ringette has a faster pace compared to hockey. I find there is more team spirit in ringette as well, on and off the ice.Through all my years of hockey, I had never seen a team that was like a family until I started playing ringette. The way I approach coaching/teaching is that I start with an assessment of the skill level the goalie is already at with the basics (skating, stance and positioning). A saying I have heard since I started playing goalie in 1998 is that the goalie has to be the best skater on the team, and I strongly believe in that. I start my approach to coaching by

working on balance and strength/power, the keys to good goaltending. From there I take a different approach to teaching.Through my career I have attended several different camps, and I find that everyone has a different style when it comes to playing and teaching. That can be very confusing for any goalie, so my approach is that I teach the way I wish I had been taught. When I play the game, I have what could be called an “unusual” style as the style I play is one I have had to create to work for both AA ringette and hockey. So when I teach, I want my goalies to be creating their own style. My goal is to pass on as much of what I have learned through experience to help my goalies be as calm, comfortable and controlled in the net. I love to coach as much as I love to play the game, and I hope to be doing both for as long as I can!

Soccer Building Blocks This program is designed to help younger soccer players to master the basic ball skills that will be the foundation for everything that they learn in soccer in future years. Coaches agree that a solid grounding in the basic techniques of ball control, striking and dribbling at an early age is essential in helping players to grasp and execute more complex concepts, drills and match situations as they progress. This 4-day program concentrates on working closely with the camp instructors in a series of games and drills to teach the campers the correct techniques for controlling, striking, passing, shooting and dribbling with a ball while maintaining a high level of fun and enjoyment to keep young players occupied and focused for the whole camp. All drills will be taught by the Carleton Ravens coaching staff and playing staff. All soccer sessions will be held on the Ravens’ Field (turf) at Carleton University.
