RENOWNED GUEST HOUSE, COTTAGE & BARN.
Capers is a private home and renowned boutique accommodation in the historic and quaint Wollombi village, lower Hunter Valley of NSW.
The main residence was built in 1999 using heritage sandstone blocks, once part of the old Sydney Hospital in Macquarie Street.
Additional to the main house is a charming three bedroom cottage and a separate one bedroom Australian bushman’s slab barn.
Capers offers a rare opportunity combining a comfortable country lifestyle and a commercial business opportunity.
MODERN-DAY LIVING & AUTHENTIC CHARM. THE MAIN HOUSE
The main home was built in 1999 by interior designers, John & Anne Kelly, who moved from Sydney to live in Wollombi.
The Kelly’s purchased and relocated the convict-hewn sandstone, which still bears the original markings when first quarried from Saunders Quarry, Pyrmont around 1880. The sandstone is the highest grade and highly prized for its clarity, density and colour.
The sandstones first life was the kitchen of the old Sydney Hospital (Macquarie Street) in 1881 before it was demolished in 1984 to make way for Parliament House extensions.
The home features authentic recycled building materials sourced statewide such as floors, doors, furniture and a staircase.
Today the home offers a separate owners living level, five luxury suites (all with ensuites) and doors opening onto the wide verandah.
There is also a chef’s kitchen, cellar, double sided fireplace and combined lounge and dinning room.
CAPERS COTTAGE
COSY, CHARMING & RUSTIC.
Capers Cottage is a separate, cosy, self-contained three bedroom (two with ensuites), three bathroom timber residence located at the front entry of the property and near to the pool.
The cottage has a beautifully appointed new kitchen, wide sweeping verandahs and a combined lounge and dining room.
For comfort there is an open fireplace, ceiling fans and split system air conditioning.
The cottage is a popular family-friendly guesthouse which can accommodate up to eight guests.
BOILING BILLY BARN
AUSTRALIAN BUSHMAN’S BARN.
The barn, once a rest stop for workman and travellers of the Great North Road, has been restored now offering a charming hideaway. With wood burning stove, split air conditioning and staircase leading to a romantic tree house style sleeping nook with bathroom. The ‘Boiling Billy Barn’ features locally souced spotted gum and can accommodate three guests with separate driveway and two minute walk to the village.
