Down Payment is the #1 Financial Hurdle for NextGen Buyers in Homeownership Saving for a down payment is the primary financial hurdle for NextGen buyers. An estimated 67.7% of future buyers are saving less than $500/month for a down payment, the equivalent of $6,000 or less per year. According to Zillow, the median home price in the US is just under $250,000. At that rate, the average buyer would have to save for 8 years to afford a 20% down payment. As a housing professional, you have the opportunity to bridge some of that educational gap and bring resources to your clients.
