Grace and Peace to each and every one of you. Let me introduce myself. From July 1 through August 31, I will be your Intentional Interim Minister. Your new pastor will arrive on September 1 and, in the meantime, I will serve as your pastor and preacher. In June 2012, I retired after 44 years of service as a clergy person in the Oklahoma Annual Conference and moved to Eagle Lake, Texas, with my wife of 46 years, Frances. We have 3 children and 5 grandchildren who live in Oklahoma and Florida.

In my 44 years, I pastored churches in rural as well as suburban areas of Oklahoma. Seven of those years were spent serving as the District Superintendent of the Enid District of the Oklahoma Annual Conference. My last appointment of 11 years was at First United Methodist Church in Stillwater, Oklahoma. I received my B.A. from Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa, and my M.Div. from Phillips Graduate School of Theology, Phillips University, Enid, Oklahoma. It was from Phillips that I received the Distinguished Alumnus award in 2003. Since my retirement in June 2012, I have been doing Intentional Interim work. Christ Church will be my fifth interim appointment. My wife, Frances, says it this way: “You have flunked retirement.” Throughout my career, I have worked with numerous law enforcement agencies and fire departments as their chaplain. My responsibilities have included stress counseling with officers and working with bereaved families during their times of crisis. Frances worked as an educator in elementary schools in the communities where I was appointed as pastor. Do I have any hobbies? Not really, but I have numerous interests that include everything from NASCAR racing to college basketball to country & western music. But at the same time, I enjoy the theater and classical music. I am looking forward to spending these next few weeks with you. I want to make a deal with you. I will pray for you and ask you to pray for me as we journey together as the family of faith known as Christ United Methodist Church. Shalom,

Dear Christ Church Congregation, Rev. Jay Jackson, our Southwest District Superintendent, has announced the appointment of our new lead pastor, the Rev. Dr. C. Chappell Temple. Pastor Temple and his spouse, Julie, a retired public school teacher, will be moving to the area by the end of August.
NEWLY APPOINTED LEAD PASTOR REV. DR. C. CHAPPELL TEMPLE
In ministry since 1975, Pastor Temple has served significant appointments in the Texas Annual Conference, most recently at Lakewood U.M.C. in Houston where he spent 12 years with consistent growth in membership and worship. While there, he led a successful seven million dollar building and renovation campaign and increased that church’s programs and outreach to the community. His past service to the connection includes the endorsement as an Episcopal Candidate in 2012 in the South Central Jurisdiction, elections to several sessions of Jurisdictional and General Conference, service as the President of Lon Morris College, and leadership on many denominational boards and agencies. Pastor Temple holds a Ph.D. from Rice University and a Master of Divinity degree from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Massachusetts. His writing is published in various religious journals, including the Abingdon Preaching Annual and the UM Reporter. He presently serves as Adjunct Faculty for Perkins School of Theology, Houston, teaching United Methodist history, doctrine, and polity. Born April 6, 1953, in Hillsboro, Texas, he attended public schools in Fort Worth and Houston. He and Julie have a son and daughter and three grandchildren, with one more on the way. He has traveled or ministered in over thirty nations and enjoys being with family, reading, music, travel, hiking, and walking. churchmatters As a recent graduate of Texas A&M, I was involved with Axiom while in school and built a strong relationship with the people involved. It was my second family at home and I know even when at school that I had a solid group of people that loved me, cared for me, and would be there if I needed anything. The group really has supported me and helped me grow in my faith and welcomed me with open arms when I returned to begin my working career. Because of the visit by the inmate choir, Winds of Change, on Christ Church’s RJM Sunday, the new warden got to see what RJM means to our church and to the inmates. He was so moved by the Spirit working throughout that day that he has worked very hard to gain permission to take the choir to churches every Sunday. The warden, himself, will talk from the pulpit at each church about the effects of RJM on a church. JUNE REPORTS “We had a successful Carpenter’s Hands event on May 17 at Christ Church. Over 30 people were involved. Projects included: finishing out closet under stairs, refurbishing small houses in both playgrounds, reorganizing and cleaning meeting area in Scout Shack, painting front playground fence, dusting plants and wax removal in Sanctuary building, painting door trim in Gym, power-washing concrete parking lot, re-striping parking spaces by the ball parks, and dusting pews in Sanctuary. It takes a lot of money to care for the facilities. The more volunteers we can get involved, the more money we can save for other things.” –Roland Huysman, Director of Operations

It was a blessing to know I had a congregation on whom I could rely in any situation.”
This ministry has opened my eyes to the supportive nature of our congregation. In the past year we have had multiple donations ranging from paper towels to delicious homecooked sweets used to feed our Bible study group. I have not had a single individual tell me something about the Apartment Ministry that hasn’t been encouraging. Although the ministry was exhausting, at times, it was a blessing to know I had a congregation on whom I could rely in any situation.
The dedication and requirements of the Apartment Ministry have taught me how to be a true warrior for Christ. The ministry has strengthened my prayer life and helped me to become more aware of my Christian walk by following the “Rules of Life.” I am no longer afraid of being rejected by individuals who I try to tell about Christ, and I am even more thankful for those who listen. Lastly, I want to emphasize how influential our “Rules of Life” were in my personal faith walk, and in our ministry. You start to think more about our everyday actions when once a week you have a list of things you compare them to. That’s why I want to encourage every ministry, small group, and Bible study to create a “Rules of Life” list and start your own covenant together. Don’t just go through the motions - keep yourselves accountable and you will be amazed at how your faith and fellowship with others changes. I would like to end this by thanking everyone who has supported me, as through this ministry we experienced a brand new type of outreach. To update you all as to my plans, I have accepted admission into Vanderbilt University to pursue my Masters in Counseling with emphasis in Clinical and Mental Health, starting in August 2014. I will never forget the impact Christ United Methodist Church has had on my faith. KYLE MACDONALD

s Christ at Foundations comes to an end for me personally, I want to reflect on my experiences and the growth in my spiritual walk. First and foremost, this experience has been a blessing because of the personal relationships that I have developed with our pastors, Dan and Preston, but also with the residents of the Foundations apartments.

The best way to spiritual wholeness and health is to walk with God in all of life, in good times, in challenging times, and also in bad times. God wants to be present in our lives so that healing may come. More than anything, God wants us to be whole, wholesome, healthy, and holy. When we walk with God we discover Christ has already been walking with us. Come, meet the One who walks with us through every time and every season. We know that this is what we are called to do. But as this verse implies, we cannot do it without the presence of the Holy Spirit.

July is the month we are a bit more casual in our Sanctuary worship. The Chancel Choir observes a month-long break. The pastors go without robes and stoles and enjoy wearing street clothes. Communion is celebrated by intinction in all the services so the Saturday volunteers may have a month off. Things are a bit more laid back in traditional worship. Since summer Sundays often have people headed from church to outings and family events, everyone’s invited to come to worship dressed for their day. Summer’s also a great time to invite neighbors, co-workers, and friends to church, especially if your plans for later in the day include them. Start with July 6! We’ll be looking for you every Sunday! SUMMER CHOIR SCHEDULE JUNE, JULY, & AUGUST
The Joyful Noise and Chancel choirs continue to sing in worship throughout the months of June and August. If you would like to participate in Joyful Noise, which sings in the 9:45 am service, rehearsal is Sunday mornings at 8:30 am in the Choir Room. The Chancel Choir, which sings in the 11:05 am service, rehearses Wednesdays from 7–9 pm in the Choir Room. These choirs do not rehearse or sing in July. Our handbell choirs, Joy Bells and Jubilation Ringers, are on break for the summer but will resume in the fall.

Her two sons, Christopher and Nicholas, live in Colorado. Her oldest daughter, Meredith, lives in Houston. Her youngest daughter, Caroline, is a Senior at Clements High School. Joanne has been a teacher/ assistant at Christ Church School for 19 years and has loved all of the children who have been in her care during those years.

Are you looking for a spiritual adventure? Are you ready to experience the joy of serving outside your comfort zone? If so, I have the mission for you! I am leading our fourth mission to Haiti on November 10 through 17. On previous missions, God has touched our hearts so deeply that many members of our previous teams are going back, but we can take a team of up to 10 members and we need a few more servants to join us. What will we do? Where will we go? We will not know until closer to our departure date, but in the past our mission has included some building/ repair, crochet training for the local women, ministry to the Haitian children, and amazing worship. This has always been a moving experience, and I can guarantee you will not return home untouched. We expect the trip's cost to be about $1,800 per person but we have historically offset nearly two-thirds of that cost through successful fundraising. Registration is now open at cumcsl.org/haiti. FORT BEND SENIORS MEALS ON WHEELS ACTIVE ALL YEAR
Fort Bend Seniors Meals on Wheels (FBSMOW) is committed to helping seniors in our area to remain independent by enhancing their quality of life through services and resources. FBSMOW is one of Fort Bend County's oldest non-profit agencies, and serves approximately 1,000 hot meals daily to seniors, 60 years and older. FBSMOW provides comprehensive services and programs including home delivery of hot meals to homebound seniors, congregate meals, emergency shelf-stable meals, transportation, case management, telephone reassurance, health screenings, information and referral services, and social activities. If you can spare an hour or two each week, we can use your help to deliver hot meals to seniors in our community or assist with other senior activities. Then, consider becoming an Altar Prayer Partner, a Care Team member, or a Hearts of Grace intercessor. Altar Prayer Partners serve in the 8:15 and 11:05 am Sanctuary services. They come and stand behind the rail, ready to pray with any who kneel and open their hands to receive prayer. Care Team members gather on Monday mornings to receive Sunday’s prayer requests and follow up with those who submitted them for as long as the support of prayer and presence is needed.
