????????

MIKE MAYHUGH SENIOR PASTOR

I am so excited that The Master’s Storyteller is going to be here in August. Wesley Putnam has been a friend of mine for years and I love his ministry. When he visited my last church, I was delighted to see a church full of Methodists in the pews every night! Now, in my book, when you get Methodists to come to church on a weeknight, it is a good night! People were talking about these meetings for weeks after he left. Bottom line . . . God used him to make a difference. That is why I’ve asked him to come to Christ Church. His stories are fun, full of humor, very well-presented and effective in communicating God’s love to this generation. Those who came to church on the morning he delivered his message to Christ Church on Grand Slam Sunday know that we are in for a great event. Want to know more? Visit his website, keep up with his travels and listen to his music. Follow him on Twitter and “like” the Wesley Putnam Ministries Facebook page. Download some of his songs on iTunes for an added blessing. And remember to put these dates on your calendar and start inviting your friends now!

A STUDY OF “GRACE” BY MAX LUCADO SUNDAYS, AUG. 4 - SEPT. 15 • 8:30 AM • BRIDE’S ROOM

Grace. We talk as though we understand the term. The bank gives us a grace period. The seedy politician falls from grace. Musicians speak of a grace note. We describe an actress as gracious, a dancer as graceful. We use the word for hospitals, baby girls, kings, and premeal prayers. We talk as though we know what grace means. But do we really understand it? Have we settled for wimpy grace? It politely occupies a phrase in a hymn, fits nicely on a church sign. Never causes trouble or demands a response. When asked if you believe in grace, who could say no? Max Lucado asks a deeper question: Have you been changed by grace? Shaped by grace? Strengthened by grace? Emboldened by grace? Softened by grace? Snatched by the nape of your neck and shaken to your senses by grace? God’s grace has a drenching about it. A wildness about it. A white-water, riptide, turn-you-upside-downness about it. Grace comes after you. It rewires you. From insecure to God secure. From regret riddled to better-because-of-it. From afraid to die to ready to fly.

ITS S.O.S. TIME! SUNDAYS, JULY 7 THROUGH JULY 28 • MINISTRY CENTER

It is S.O.S. time again! For many years, this congregation has made dreams come true and given children right here in Fort Bend County the confidence and tools needed for success in school. S.O.S. provides new, prepackaged school supplies to low income, qualified students in grades K-12. We work in conjunction with EFBHNM to reach these deserving students. Ministry leader Pam Bluestein writes: “New school supplies are a big deal to children. When my own children were little, they loved playing with and lining up their new school supplies. They were so excited for the first day of school every year, in part, because of something so simple - new supplies. To this day, I have fond memories of watching my girls play with and take pride in their new supplies. What we are asking you to do is this - please give another parent and child this same great memory. New school supplies give a child confidence and create excitement about going to school every day.” Suggested donation levels are as follows: $35 buys supplies for one elementary student $70 buys supplies for one elementary and 2 middle/high school students $100 buys supplies for 3 to 4 students (depending on grade level) $500 buys supplies for nearly a full classroom! You will find volunteers in the Ministry Center to answer your questions or to take your cash/check donations. You may also place a check in the collection plate; just make a note of SOS on the memo line. Sunday School class donations can be transferred directly into the SOS account, or can be placed in the class donation envelope. Thank you so much for supporting this wonderful ministry and for being a blessing to a child! Questions? Please call Pam Bluestein at 281.343.9913 or Elaine Huffer at 281.499.6648. ADOPT A CRAFT FOR MEXICO VBS CALL MEXICO MISSIONS ASAP!

Adopt-a-Craft Day - it’s a great family project! We need 4 families or individuals, each willing to come up with 2 VBS crafts for children in Mexico. You’ll be asked to purchase enough supplies to allow 350 children to make your crafts (you would have a $250 church budget), plus make some completed samples of each. No need to purchase markers, crayons, pencils, scissors or glue - the church will provide the children with these supplies. Your craft supplies and completed samples would need to be delivered to the church by the morning of July 8 so that they could be loaded into vans heading for the Mexico border. This is a great way to help the children of Mexico from your own casa! Contact Mexico Missions at 281.690.4755 or Olinda Jehovics at 713.385.8685 as soon as possible, as these 4 chances to serve fill up quickly!

BY REV. LINDA SUMMERS PIERCE EXECUTIVE PASTOR

Enter worship through a castle! Relive the story! Hear the music! Visit the children’s activity tables! Relearn lessons of love, trust, faithfulness, and service. We’ll recall the tales from Disney’s “Magic Kingdom” all through the month of July in order to learn more about God’s Kingdom and our place in it! You don’t want to miss a single Sunday in July as each one will feature something - or someone - quite special! • “Finding Nemo” will be the featured Disney film on July 7. Based on Luke 15:47, the sermon will highlight how knowing his father loved him so very much inspired Nemo to make the right choice so he and his dad could be reunited. Nemo had help, of course, from Dory, a special friend of Nemo’s father, who was able to lead Nemo home. We’ll celebrate what it meant for Nemo to be reunited with his father and what it means for us to be reunited with our loving father. • Princess Merida, in Disney’s “Brave,” had to learn things won’t turn out as hoped when we call on the world’s powers to gain our own freedom. She also had to grow up and discover that any change of fate begins with a change of heart. On July 14, our featured text, Ephesians 4:14-16; 5:1-3, and “Brave” will teach us that with forgiveness comes transformation and true freedom in God’s power. Scottish music, including that played by a Scottish bagpiper, will be featured. • On July 21, the movie, “Cinderella”, and the text, Matthew 25:1-13, will remind us we’re always supposed to be prepared, wise, and ready since some things in life can’t be borrowed. It will be “Princess Day” at the church so if you have a princess in your family, encourage her to come dressed as the princess she is. • On July 28, “Peter Pan” and Acts 6:12-16 will teach us that Simon Peter’s shadow and Peter Pan’s shadow have a lot in common. Each one had special influence. We, too, cast shadows, and we’re called to cast shadows of good, positive effects, to be the light of Christ reflecting the shadow of Christ onto others’ lives. This is how we influence the world for Christ. You may want to bring a camera on this day. There’s going to be something exciting happening every Sunday in July. So unless you are out of town, you’re encouraged to come in casual summer dress, bring your children and grandchildren, and invite your neighbors and friends. Come learn what it means to live in God’s Kingdom!
