Exercise Tutors: Maria Paola Repellino and Andrea Rosada Exercise Presentation: March 4th 2014 Exercise Reviews: March 11th 2014 Final Seminar: March 18th 2014 0. Cusco City Block. Excursions on density
2. Densification
The exercise aims to achieve two main goals:
- Find the densification related to the block (from PDU).
1. An accurate knowledge of the forms of the built environment (urban settlements and their composition, density and edification rules).
- Consider the possibility of adding 2-storey maximum to the height of buildings.
2. Some densification hypotheses of the existing urban fabric based on the coefficients imposed by the new PDU of the city.
- Assume the percentage of the unbuilt area as a minimum quantity.
The exercise will be led by groups of three / four students. Each group will work on one (or more) of the urban blocks selected to conduct the survey.
- Formulate three hypotheses of the block densification: two with the densification of the 50% of the existing lots. The third one with the 100% densification of the block.
Each group will work on the block using the dwg maps, the satellite images, and the photographs of the place.
- Represent the design assumptions through excel files, axonometric views and 1:500 scale models.
1. Metric Survey
- Remeber that the final project has the ambition to become an architecture
- Measures of the block and its lots: Height of the single buildings (meters) and number of the levels, Coeficiente de edificacion (total surface of the building / surface of the lot), Volume (cubic meter, Percentage of built-up surface / open surface (squared meters / squared meters = x%)
The exercise is slitted in two phases:
- Isometric Axonometry of the block: two different views from two opposite angles (as in slide 39, 1:500 scale
2. Final densification proposals March 18th.
- Model 1:500 scale (including half of the streets section facing the block). Material: paper and cardboard.
1. Metric surveys and first densification proposal March 11th.
