Orange’s Lee Stinson and partner Corey Wedlock have claimed victory at the 2023 Golden Eagle Classic Pairs Tournament.

The hotly contested four-day tournament concluded on Friday, March 3, with Lee and Corey defeating 2022 Commonwealth Games silver medalists Carl Healey and Ben Twist, 22-12.

The standard of bowls displayed on the Orange City Bowling Club greens was extraordinary with a record number of state, national and international bowls champions competing for a share of the $20,000 prize money.

“Lee, Corey, Ben and Carl, it’s undisputed that you have all played phenomenal bowls this week and regardless of who is crowned the champion, it’s been amazing watching you all bowl,” the club posted on it’s Facebook page the morning of the finals.

On Wednesday, March 1, approximately 150 people attended Orange City Bowling Club for the inaugural Sportsman’s Dinner, a new addition to the Golden Eagle Classic Pairs bowls tournament.

Legendary Australian rugby league prop forward Steve “Blocker” Roach was the guest speaker at the dinner, which was MC’d by comedian Justin Karcher.

ORANGE FILM SOCIETY PRESENTS, EMILY: THE IMAGINATION BEHIND WUTHERING HEIGHTS

Emily tells the imagined life of one of the world’s most famous authors, Emily Brontë. The film stars Emma Mackey as Emily, a rebel and misfit, as she finds her voice and writes the literary classic ‘Wuthering Heights’. Emily explores the relationships that inspired her – her raw, passionate sisterhood with Charlotte (Alexandra Dowling) and Anne (Amelia Gething); her first aching, forbidden love for Weightman (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) and her care for her maverick brother Branwell (Fionn Whitehead), whom she idolises.

Frances O’Connor makes her directorial debut with Emily, from her own original screenplay. The film also stars Adrian Dunbar and Gemma Jones.

See Emily at the Odeon 5 Cinema: Sunday, March 12 (early evening screening, check local listings); and Wednesday, March 15 (mid-morning screening, check local listings)
