The Racing Association would like to wish Andrew Corletto and the crew of Shining Sea the best of luck in the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race. Not only is Shining Sea the only representative from the CYCSA, but is the only South Australian boat entering into the race. If you would like to watch the start of the Sydney to Hobart, the CYCSA will be showing the start of the race on the big screen on Boxing Day. Please contact the club for more information. Finally, my farewell from the Race Office. Many thanks go to the Racing Executive and all the members who have made my placement and casual work in the race office very enjoyable and very valuable for my future learning and career. I will definitely be coming down to the club regularly, maybe even for a sail or two!
Wed 12: Twilight Series 2 - R4 Sat 15:
Firstly, on behalf on the Racing Association, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year. This will be my last write up in Downwind with Jess returning from her parenting duties in the New Year. After just over 2 months of the 2013/2014 summer season, we’ve had a mixed bag of weather conditions that has been thrown at our racing members, as well as some protests and very close results making the first half of the season very interesting!
The Racing Association will be back into full swing in the New Year with both Jess returning as well as a Racing Association Chairman Traci Ayris returning from holiday. Many upcoming events will also make the Race Office quite busy as well with the Great Southern Regatta and J24 State Championships coming up as well as the club series!
Wed 29: Twilight Series 2—R3
Sat 1:
Hello again Racing Members,
As the year comes to an end, we have to say thanks to our volunteer Duty Crew who gave up their own time every week to provide a race for our members. As well as the duty crew, many thanks go to the sponsors of the Racing Association. Special thanks go to SportsMed.SA and Wild Oats who were the sponsors of the Premier’s Cup and the Queen of the Gulf Regatta respectively. Special thanks also go to our terrific season Sponsors, Phil Hoffman Travel, Yalumba Wines, Robert Oately Vineyards, The Stag Hotel and Canegrass Saltbush Lamb.

LADIES HELM TWILIGHT RACE RACE LADIES HELM TWILIGHT
DOWNWIND
Wednesday 11th of December was a standalone Ladies Helm Twilight for the regular twilight fleet. The ladies helm produced a fantastic fleet of 27 yachts, the most yachts we have had on the water in the twilight series so far this season. There was some great weather on the night of 10 knots with clear skies, couldn’t get much better! The top two boats in the results, Coco and Julia, helmed by Sharon Bone and Sally Anne Geddes respectively tied for both the Cruising B first place and the overall first place. After the race, there was a great atmosphere around the club with approximately 140 people staying for dinner. A special ‘Happy Birthday’ was sung to REX member Mark Hutton which increased the atmosphere and brought a lot of smiles to people’s faces.

The winner of the silent auction was Serge Ambrose, owner of Nina, from the Port Adelaide Sailing Club who won the prize after entering the Queen of the Gulf. ‘WILD OATS’ QUEEN OF THE GULF REGATTA
This year’s Queen of the Gulf Regatta saw a good fleet of 25 including 5 from RSAYS and 1 from PASC which was 5 boats more than last year. It was a lovely sunny day with predicted light winds early and a sea breeze. The course was a Long Fixed Mark with Division 1 racing approximately 14 miles and Division 2 racing about 12 miles. The race started a 1315, clean start at 5 knots from N/N/W breeze and flat seas. Over the next hour or 2 the breeze fluctuated up to 8 knots but then eased again down to 1.5 knots and glassy seas around 1515 hrs. With the strong prospect of only 1 division 2 yacht likely to finish and the rest of the division 1 and 2 fleet becalmed, the RO John Gibson made the wise decision at 1525 to abandon the race. At the presentations it was decided to do a lucky draw out of the hat for the wine prizes. William Strangways
AMS REPORT with William Strangways We now have 40 yachts with current AMS certificates in SA. The latest to join the fleet are Sextant and Speakeasy, both based in Port Lincoln. There are 9 entries for the Division 1 state championships, Aikin, Shining Sea, White Knight, Horopito, Taniwha, 3 Cool Cats, Slipknot, Another Planet and Vertigo. There are 15 entrants in the Division 2 State Championships, Quarante deux, New Morning III, Peer Gynt, Nina, Young Einstein, Locomotion, Dejavu, Take 5, Freedom, Arcadia, Carioca, Such Is Life, Good Company, Dr. Feelgood and Blue Diamond, a fantastic fleet for Division 2. Results for the AMS State Champs and the CYC internal series are all up on the CYCSA website.
