A PASSION FOR CHALLENGES AND PERFORMANCE
“Perfect timing is the key to success.” Like the watchmaker, every top athlete has a relationship with time and precision that is both exhilarating and uncompromising. As Nico Hischier knows, a fraction of a second can make all the difference between winning and losing. Each day, he faces this challenge. At the end of the day, his performance must always be better than the previous one.
Nico Hischier shares Carl F. Bucherer’s passion for challenges and achievements, which requires concentration, effort, self-improvement, humility, and the ability to question oneself. At just 23 years of age, the ice hockey player has already demonstrated his commitment to the game, his leadership personality, his team spirit, and the brilliance of his game. He has been passionate about hockey ever since he was a child. In 2015, he became the second youngest goal scorer in the Swiss league, before becoming the first Swiss-born player selected in the first round of the National Hockey League’s overall draft in 2017. He then helped the New Jersey Devils return to the playoffs for the first time in six years. He has been the captain of the US team since 2021, making him the youngest active captain in the league. Nico also distinguished himself with the Swiss national team at the last two International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championships after scoring three successive goals in spectacular fashion in April 2019. A victory repeated at the World Championship in Slovakia, during which he led his countrymen and qualified them for the quarterfinals by scoring nine points in eight games.
CARL F. BUCHERER FEELS LIKE FAMILY
Nico Hischier had everything it took to join the prestigious list of Carl F. Bucherer ambassadors, among them the winner of multiple medals in the Olympic Games and the Alpine Ski World Cup, Wendy Holdener from Switzerland. In addition to his quest for excellence and performance, as well as his team spirit, Nico shares with the watchmaking company a deep sense of family and Swiss roots. There are three families in Nico’s life: the first one is his immediate family, that is, his father, a former soccer player, his mother, his sister, and his brother, also a hockey player. The second one is his professional family – the New Jersey Devils. The third is one that came about spontaneously, around common values and a bond of recognition and admiration. It is the Carl F. Bucherer family, of which the young athlete is now a member: “It’s great to work with a Swiss family brand. The word ‘family’ resonates with me. My own family has always been incredibly athletic, my sister, brother, and I, and, of course, the New Jersey Devils, who are my professional family. And now I’m part of an international family that is passionate about what they do, and committed to excellence and precision. I feel right at home at Carl F. Bucherer, and I really like their watches!”
In 1888, the Bucherer family founded the watchmaking company Carl F. Bucherer in Lucerne, which is still in family hands today. This is rare in the watchmaking world, and the pride of its members. They have a broader vision of the family circle and are committed to supporting and nurturing the careers of talented people who are passionate about what they do and who strive to achieve their dreams, like Nico.
AT HOME IN SWITZERLAND AND AROUND THE WORLD
Carl F. Bucherer and Nico Hischier also share common roots. Switzerland is their home. Nico was born and raised there. This strong connection, however, does not keep him from going out into the world and visiting various continents. He leads a team based in the United States in New Jersey, he has participated in international matches since he entered the competition, and he has fans from all over the world. Like Carl F. Bucherer, he feels at home all over the world, radiating an international aura, driven by his boldness and the respect of his peers. This focus on action was the key to the success of Carl Friedrich Bucherer, the founder of the company, as Sascha Moeri, CEO of Carl F. Bucherer, recalls : “Nico has his roots in Switzerland, but is right at home all over the world. He has always wanted to pursue his dream, because he believes that anything is possible. It reminds me of our founder, Carl F. Bucherer, when he opened his first boutique in Lucerne 133 years ago. His ability to move forward and go for it made him famous around the world, and Nico Hischier has done the same thing.”
Today, Nico represents the cosmopolitan spirit of the Manero Flyback watch, which is geared towards exploring new horizons and opportunities. With his innate sense of style and the Manero Flyback on his wrist, Nico Hischier takes his new Swiss Carl F. Bucherer family around the world and makes himself right at home.
