Tips for sanitizing 5 HARD-TO-CLEAN ITEMS in your children's rooms By d-mars.com News Provider
E
very parent knows that keeping kids' rooms and their stuff - sanitary can seem like a losing battle. Between the playdates, trips to the park and going back-and-forth from school to home, parents also worry about the amount of not just dirt, but also potentially harmful bacteria, living on all the toys, clothes and bedding in their children's rooms. What are the best ways to make sure children's items are as clean and sanitary as possible? Here are some tips for sanitizing common, tough-to-clean items in your kids' rooms.
Baby's plastic toys Babies put everything in their mouths. For the plastic toys your baby loves to carry, mouth and drop (not necessarily in that order), frequent cleaning is essential. For completely plastic toys, with no other materials included, you could just soak and wash them in hot soapy water, rinsing well and air drying afterward. But to sanitize them, go a
step further - put them through the dishwasher. Use the silverware holder or tie into a mesh bag to wash them on the gentlest cycle, then let them air dry. You may also want to wash plastic bathtub toys, which are not staying clean in the tub with your child. Distilled white vinegar diluted with water helps inhibit mold and mildew growth.
Stuffed animals If your child has a favorite stuffed toy they love to live, play and sleep with, you know how hard it is to convince your child to part with it for a spin in the washing machine. But it's worth it to know that the stuffed toy they spend all their time with has been sanitized. You may want to check the toy for rips or holes before washing, so no stuffing falls out. DIY expert Mandi Gubler shares helpful tips for sanitizing and repairing your child's favorite stuffed animals at her blog, Vintage Revivals. Gubler recommends using Lysol Laundry Sanitizer, a one-of-a-kind product that's safe to use on washable fabric items. It kills 99.9% of bacteria, when used as directed, that regular detergents may leave behind. While washing stuffed animals with regular laundry detergent and cold water may clean dirt and add a fresh scent, it might not completely remove bacteria, including harmful bacteria that may cause illness such as staph infections. Add Lysol Laundry Sanitizer to the fabric softener compartment, following product directions, to help eliminate bacteria. Wash toys on the gentle cycle, and be careful not to launder toys with batteries or that make sounds.
Bedding
for warnings about water temperature, especially the first time you wash anything. Mattress pads, however, should be washed in warm water. For special blankets, such as homemade baby blankets, use the gentle cycle for extra care.
Shoes You can even wash children's sneakers in the washing machine. If you remove the shoelaces and soles, you can then wash the shoes in a mesh bag to launder using cold water. It's probably a good idea to use the gentle cycle and then allow shoes to air dry rather than putting them in the dryer.
Athletic wear If you have kids in sports, you know how dirty athletic wear items can get, and how it seems like the odors never quite go away, no matter how much you wash them. The odor molecules caused by bacteria can become trapped in the synthetic fabrics of most athletic wear, so it's best to eliminate the odors at the source. Traditional fabric softeners and dryer sheets just mask odors and might damage clothing, but Lysol Laundry Sanitizer Sport is suitable for most athletic wear fabric, leaving it smelling fresh and clean. You can add it to your athletic wear load according to directions and wash in cold water. Be sure to follow specific care instructions about drying athletic wear items. There's no need to surrender in the battle against dirt and bacteria living in your children's toys, bedding and clothing. Set a regular schedule for washing and sanitizing these tough items to help freshen up your child's bedroom and keep it looking and smelling cleaner.

7 IDEAS TO GIVE YOUR BARBECUE THE ULTIMATE FLAVOR BOOST
By d-mars.com News Provider
hen the temps heat up, home cooks look for lighter, more refreshing food and drinks that still pack a nutritional punch. The cranberry is just the thing - a tangy fruit that adds flavorful zing to sweet and savory recipes. Available dried, frozen, as juice or sauce, cranberries are a good source of Vitamin C and have fiber and antioxidants as well. Offering big health benefits in a little package, cranberries are full of polyphenols not commonly found in other fruits. You can enjoy their robust flavor while boosting your health. Here are some ideas for hosting a summer BBQ.
1. Quench your thirst Cranberry juice makes a delightfully refreshing drink on its own or mixed with sparkling water and served on ice. For those who enjoy adult beverages, make a statement at your party with a festive, colorful pitcher of sangria served with fruit. Add cranberry juice to red wine for a zesty, delicious 21+ punch, with orange juice, orange slices and a little extra liquor like brandy or rum.
2. Keep your cool Cranberry juice boosts the flavor of a fruit smoothie with its sweet and tart flavor. Combine with fruits, such as bananas or strawberries, and your favorite milk or yogurt, adding a little honey or agave if desired. Blend with crushed ice for a healthful smoothie for breakfast or any time you need a quick pick-me-up. The kids will love it. In preparation for extra hot days, make cranberry juice ice cubes or ice pops in your freezer.
Get creative and start with a base like crushed cookies, vanilla wafers or graham crackers (reserving some for the topping), then alternate layers of whipped cream, vanilla pudding or your favorite yogurt with jellied or whole berry cranberry sauce. Add a layer or two of fresh blueberries or strawberries for a red, white and blue dessert. Make it family-sized or create individual parfaits to offer your guests a personal treat.
5. Have a cranberry party The robust cranberry can handle some heat, so create a salsa for your next party. Combine thawed, chopped frozen cranberries with Mexican flavors such as jalapeno, green onions, lime juice and cilantro to create a zesty salsa. Season with salt and sugar to taste.
6. Add zing to your snacks Combine dried cranberries with nuts and seeds to make trail mix for your barbecue that all your guests will love to munch while you prepare the entrée. Add toasted coconut flakes or chocolate chips for a dose of sweetness.
7. Spruce up your salads Adding dried cranberries gives any veggie or fruit salad an extra pop of flavor. 3. Fire up the barbecue A sure-fire hit is to combine cranberry sauce with mustard, vinegar and brown sugar to create a mouth-watering barbecue sauce for all your summer grilling. You'll have your guests trying to guess the secret ingredient providing delicious tang.
4. Satisfy your sweet tooth For a refreshing summer treat, create a cranberry parfait in a glass by alternating layers of refreshing ingredients. Experience Our World of Advertising, Marketing, Media and Communication

3 easy changes that could transform your health By d-mars.com News Provider
M
aking changes to improve your health can feel overwhelming. But just a few simple modifications can impact your health dramatically. Here are three easy changes you can make now to transform your health:
Eat your water Are you thirsty? Up to 75 percent of Americans may be functioning in a chronic state of dehydration. This lack of hydration also leads to many other health issues. Every cell in your body needs water to function, but often people don't realize they're dehydrated. According to the Mayo Clinic, "Thirst isn't always a reliable early indicator of the body's need for water. Many people, particularly older adults, don't feel thirsty until they're already dehydrated." Most people learn that water exists in three forms liquid, gas and solid. But there is a fourth form of water called "gel water" that's the most hydrating. It's found in plant cells and contains glucose and/or sodium, which helps your body absorb it in the small intestine. This is critical because the small intestine is where 95 percent of water is absorbed into your body. Gel water can be found in high concentrations in fruits and vegetables like cucumber, celery, watermelon and
cantaloupe. One great way to stay well-hydrated is to drink smoothies. Blend fruits and vegetables in a smoothie and add coconut water to provide electrolytes. Drink this hydration-booster every morning, along with 3.5 liters of fluid water throughout the day. Here's a final hydration boosting tip: Add a handful of ground chia seeds to your smoothie or beverage. Ground chia seeds absorb 30 times their weight in water and turn fluid water into gel water. They also slow the passage of water through your digestive tract, giving the body more time to absorb it.
Stop taking your multivitamin pill Despite evidence that they are poorly absorbed, more than 200 million Americans take supplements daily. Most tablets and capsules contain relatively large, dense and difficult-to-absorb particles that are often more than 10 times too big to be absorbed. Some scientists even believe these sand-like particles may be scratching the lining of the gut, causing inflammation. There's another option. Consider taking safer, more natural, more effective alternatives to pills that are better absorbed. A new category of supplements called microgels uses an advanced technology to replace tablets and capsules. Microgels allow for maximum absorption of ingredients into the body by
releasing small nutrient particles in the digestive tract. These microgels are a more natural way to supplement the diet - they are 100 percent free of synthetic binding glues, fillers and coatings listed as "other ingredients" in many supplements. One example of a high quality microgel multivitamin is Bioactive Multi by Healthycell. Available in individual packets, you can take Bioactive Multi straight from the gel pack, add it to a drink or meal, or blend it into yogurt or smoothies. For information, visit www.healthycell.com.
Use micro-techniques to reduce stress Studies show stress has negative effects on organs and tissues, including the brain, circulatory system and immune system. Many Americans report insomnia, anxiety, anger or fatigue due to stress. It's unlikely that anybody can remove stress completely, but if you have the discipline to incorporate three simple techniques into your daily routine, you may be surprised at the calming benefits you can experience in 5 to 10 minutes. First, just take five deep breaths with your eyes closed a few times per day or whenever you feel stressed. Second, meditate for another five minutes per day to clear your mind. Meditation may sound intimidating, but it's easier than you may think to get started. There are even apps you can use on your phone for free guided meditations, like Sattva Meditations & Mantras or Insight Timer. Third, smile. Studies show the act of smiling affects brain chemistry to make you feel happier by immediately changing your hormone and stress levels. Just three steps In just three easy steps, you can start making progress toward improving your health. Take a deep breath, drink a smoothie loaded with fruits and veggies, and take your microgel vitamin. Source: BPT

HOW YOU CAN HELP BRING
Nutritious Foods to KIDS IN NEED THIS SUMMER By d-mars.com News Provider
F
or many American children, summer is the ultimate season. Whether it's the warm weather, the break from school or the opportunity to enjoy activities like camp, swimming and bike rides, kids count down the days to fun. However, one in six children in the U.S. faces hunger, according to a 2019 Feeding America report. For them, the summer months may not be so carefree. Child hunger becomes more prevalent at this time, as upward of 18 million children may lose access to the free or reduced-price school meal programs they depend on during the school year. While some programs like the USDA's Summer Food Service Program help to deliver meals when school is not in session, the National School Lunch Program and the School Breakfast Program do not reach children during the summer months. As a result, they could miss out on important nutrition their growing bodies need, like dairy. Milk is one of the most requested items at food banks. While Americans are generous with canned and dry goods, many don't think to donate milk because it's perishable. On average, food banks are only able to provide the equivalent of less than one gallon of milk per person per year. Real milk provides nine essential nutrients, including high-quality protein, kids need for growth and development. That's why America's dairy community has been committed to nourishing families across the nation. Last year, dairy farmers and companies contributed 686 million servings
(or 275 million pounds) of nutritious milk, cheese and yogurt to local food banks through Feeding America. "The reality is, it's challenging for kids to get all the nutrients they need to grow, develop and learn without milk in the diet," said pediatrician and parenting expert Dr. Tanya Altmann. "Milk is the top food source for calcium, vitamin D and potassium. When kids don't have access to these important nutrients, especially during their growing years, it could cause serious health implications." As the largest hunger-relief organization in the U.S., Feeding America works with its networks of food banks to get nutrient-rich foods to kids who need it when school isn't in session. However, more help is needed. Over the summer, the dairy community, along with Feeding America, will be rallying consumers to feed kids at locations including feeding sites, farmers markets and sporting events. All the while, local efforts will help raise awareness and donations for the Great American Milk Drive. "The fact that so many people - maybe even your neighbors' kids - may be at risk of hunger when they are out of school for the summer is hard to wrap your head around," said Laila Ali, professional boxer, TV personality and champion of health
and fitness. "I'm excited to team up with a community as passionate about a cause as dairy farmers are around hunger, so we can increase kids' access to vital nutrition, including milk and other dairy foods, this summer." People everywhere can take action against hunger and help get milk to families who need it at GiveAGallon. com. Even a small donation can make a big impact - for as little as $5, Americans can help food banks deliver fresh milk to children and families who need it most right in their own communities. Marilyn Hershey, Pennsylvania dairy farmer, chair of Dairy Management Inc., said, "All families should have access to the nutritious foods they need. That's why we've been committed to supporting youth wellness through programs that deliver dairy nutrition and resources that create healthier school environments and increase access to healthy foods among students." This summer effort is supported by the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy and its Undeniably Dairy campaign, as well as the Milk Processor Education Program's (MilkPEP) Milk. Love What's Real campaign, which is built on a core promise to inspire people to savor what's real and what really matters.
