Message From the President & CEO “Instead of letting your hardships and failures discourage or exhaust you, let them inspire you. Let them make you even hungrier to succeed.” —Michelle Obama

The hunger for success is the core of what brought these black professionals and entrepreneurs to the top. They have chosen to let their hardships and failures propel them forward instead of hold them back. These honorees are where they are today because they continued to move forward. d-mars.com is excited to celebrate 20 years of business alongside these accomplished honorees. I am also excited to celebrate the release of my book, “Maximizing Your Own Treasure Chest,” with a group that understands the value of capitalizing on your future with the riches in your own backyard. It is an honor to recognize the Top 50 Black Professionals and Entrepreneurs of Texas. It is essential that we continue to celebrate those in our community achieving great things and making the community better. We take pride in getting to recognize this group of professionals and entrepreneurs who have devoted themselves to creating successful businesses and leaving a legacy for the next generations to follow. d-mars.com is proud to recognize those who have set an example of success and greatness. It is our responsibility as African Americans to help others in our community succeed. This year’s honorees exemplify the importance of upholding that responsibility and opening doors for those to come. They know the value of relationships and remember if it were not for the communities they came from, they would not have the foundation, support and success they have now. d-mars.com is proud to be a platform for these exemplary individuals. As always, we are excited to celebrate them and their achievements. To all the honorees, we appreciate and value all you have done and all you are going to do.

Sincerely, Keith “Mr. D-Mars” Davis, Sr. President and CEO Vaskey Media Group, Inc. Parent Company of d-mars.com, Subcontractors USA and Top30Women.com

Byron Alfred 2019 SUPER TRAILBLAZER

After he stopped working for the judge, he went to work for the oldest personal injury law firm in the state of Texas. There Alfred worked with some of the top attorneys in Texas and looked to them for career mentorship. Upon graduation, Alfred accepted a job at VB Attorneys and has been working there for the past six years. With the help and guidance of some very successful attorneys at this firm, he has established himself as an accomplished and soughtafter attorney with a reputation for regularly achieving seven-figure verdicts and settlements for his clients. His largest recovery to date was a total of $44,370,000 for a case against B&G Crane Service for an incident that occurred at the ExxonMobil Beaumont Refinery. This verdict is now officially recognized as the No. 1 Work Injury Verdict in Texas for 2018. When Alfred isn’t working on a case, he is back home in Port Arthur helping the community. His main community interest is mentoring high school and college athletes on life after sports and maximizing the things they learned and can apply to their work life. He has his wife, Talia, and 2-year old daughter, Giselle, to keep him going through all the legal work and time constraints that come in addition to the emotional toll from his cases.

After several years of practicing together in the same office, Cox and his law partner, Troy Pradia, decided to join forces to create a law firm that focused almost exclusively on personal injury cases of every kind. As Houston personal injury lawyers, their cases range from those that have been injured in car accidents to the family of those that lost loved ones in major auto incidents involving 18 wheelers and other commercial vehicles. After receiving his bachelor’s degree and prior to entering Law School, Pradia was employed as an Executive Manager of the Loss Prevention Department with the Macy’s Corporation. While attending Law School, Pradia worked at the powerful personal injury law firm of Burrow and Parrott, LLP. Alice Oliver Parrott, a former Chief Justice of the Texas First Court of Appeals, was a Partner in the firm of Burrow and Parrott and Pradia’s Supervising Attorney. Pradia also worked for the Harris County Houston Sports Authority and The Law Offices of Theadore Andrews. Pradia is a member of the State Bar of Texas and is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, Southern District of Texas, Southern District of New York, Eastern District of Texas and the Northern District of Texas. Pradia was educated on how to be an effective litigator from his mentors Craig Washington, Sarnie Randle, Jr. and Theadore Andrews. Throughout his career, Pradia has remained humble and appreciative of all the people who helped shape his legal career. “TP,” as Troy is affectionately known, has represented the common people who needed a hand in tackling the large corporations and Fortune 500 Insurance Companies. Early on in his legal career, Pradia started his own law firm, The Law Offices of Troy J. Pradia, and had tremendous success. In 2008, Pradia began litigating personal injury cases with Jonathan H. Cox and finally in 2010, they joined forces and

created The Cox Pradia Law Firm, PLLC. The Cox Pradia Law Firm then introduced a legal marketing Brand, BigCityAccidents. com, to the Houston community to make people aware of a competent law firm who could make those “TOO BIG TO FAIL” corporations pay for their negligent acts. The Cox Pradia Law Firm and BigCityAccidents.com, have assisted thousands of clients in their quest to receive just compensation for their personal injuries. The goal of The Cox Pradia Law Firm is to become the largest African American Personal Injury Law Firm in the State of Texas over the next five years. Their Motto is “WE ARE TRIAL LAWYERS AND NOT CLAIMS ADJUSTERS AND WE WILL TAKE THE FIGHT TO THE COURTS.” Pradia and The Cox Pradia Law Firm are also committed to giving back to the community. During Thanksgiving 2013, The Cox Pradia Law Firm provided

Thanksgiving dinner to more than 200 people at “The Bread of Life,” a nonprofit homeless shelter, which is associated with St. John’s United Methodist Church in Downtown Houston. The Cox Pradia Law Firm also donated over 300 backpacks to elementary and middle school students returning to school in Houston in August 2013. The future is very bright for Pradia and The Cox Pradia Law Firm. Pradia believes in giving back to the community and because of all the blessings bestowed upon him, he will continue to pay it forward. Troy J. that compelled every student to become leaders, not simply followers; to search within themselves and find their own unique contributions. On his campuses, students were engaged in higher level thinking activities as he inspired critical and diverse thinking. Since 2001, Allen has served as Executive Director of the KnowledgeFirst Empowerment Center. Through his vision, Knowledge-First has created an educational environment of learning aimed at motivating students to do more than just acquire knowledge. “At Knowledge-First, we believe education should not only address the intellectual capacities but should be a matter of attaining proficiencies that lead to lifelong resiliency. We believe, as did Plato, that the purpose and ultimate value of education is not to stick thoughts into the pupils’ head, but to inspire them to think for themselves.” Through his efforts Allen transformed Knowledge-First into an accredited 501(c)(3) non-profit K-12 Academy. This distinction allows students who have or are in danger of dropping out of school an opportunity to return to school and obtain their high school diploma. This unique paradigm has received grants, donations and major funding that has been influential in assisting students (Ages 16-66) in obtaining their High School Diploma.

Within the community, Jones noticed another area where needs were not being met: the youth. Jones started The Shift Project in 2013 to provide a platform for helping teenagers build social skills and character development and prepare them for eventually making a successful transition into adulthood.

In 2018, the Project Alife Foundation was able to award a $1000 college scholarship, take a group of YMCA students to the premier of the Black Panther, gift an elementary school with bicycles for Christmas and hand out blankets to the less fortunate during the holiday season. Martins knows what it is like to grow up with less, so he wants to be a resource for children like him to set an example that anything is possible. He attended the University of Houston and was an Omega Psi Phi. Martins was born and raised in Houston as a first generation American. Both of his parents are from Nigeria and moved here to provide better opportunities for him and his siblings. Martins started off with big dreams and built his way up. He began with a mentor in the entertainment industry and found his love for the night life and hospitality. When he ventured into this field, he started as a promoter. This was before the social media expansion, so he was passing out flyers, putting them on cars

He booked a job with a local club with a lot of hype called Scott Gertner’s and soon realized he had the potential to grow and be more than just a promoter. Once Martins had gained a good reputation, he began to branch out as an entrepreneur. He put up all his own money at first, having found that when people put their own money into what they believe in, people are more likely to invest. He was then able to link up with his co-owners to purchase the business where they promoted what is now known as Prospect Park restaurants. Martins currently owns two Prospect Park restaurants in Houston and is pleased to announce they have branched out into Dallas, with a third location that will be opening soon. After leaving the promotion business, Tucker worked for d-mars.com for some time before transitioning into a career in real estate, which she stayed in for almost 20 years. In 2015, Tucker decided to do something new and started Blessties after ending her career in real estate. She has been a member of Lakewood Church for almost 20 years and hearing Pastor Joel Osteen preach his positive and uplifting messages over the years inspired her to take that same message and design an apparel line around it. Blessties Christian Apparel offers customized men and women shirts, cardigans, leggings and so much more. In addition to Blessties, Tucker also owns and operates several other clothing lines. One of those is called “I Am Bullied,” which is a line she started for her son who was being bullied at school. This is an anti-bullying line that promotes the idea of replacing hate and hurt with the message: BEAUTIFUL. UNIQUE. LIMITLESS. LOVING. INTELLIGENT. EDUCATED. DETERMINED. Tucker also has an athletic clothing line for men and women called SWOLLE (Strength, Wisdom, Overcomer, Loyal, Loving, Empowering) Athletic Wear. In 2019, she also plans to start a women’s plus size clothing line called Blessties Beautiful Women. Tucker’s dream is to have multiple locations in different markets and have Blessties become a billion-dollar brand like Forever 21. She is currently working on the second location of Blessties in San Antonio.

After working for companies like Sysco Food and CVS, he took a leap of faith to embark on his new career of owning and operating T&T Highway Express, LLC. He started off with one truck, but after Hurricane Harvey he lost that truck and had to start over. Through an extensive amount of research, he was able to purchase four new trucks, and now his trucks are moving all over the United States. He has been among the most visible proponents to making sure his drivers are running the roads and highways in accordance with the Texas Department of Transportation. Outside of running his business, Jones finds time to give back to the community. He gives back to his hometown of Memphis by helping inner city kids who need a male mentor. He also held a large fundraiser and was able to give 300 turkeys to families in Memphis. He also gives back to his second home, Houston.
