Hello D6S Fam! My name is Alyssa Alegre and I am serving as your 2015-2016 Division News Editor! I am currently a junior at Chaparral High School, where I also serve as club Vice President! I love to explore new places, learn new things, and meet new people. My life revolves around school, smiles, and SERVICE! I can’t wait to share exciting news and lots of memories with you too! I am beyond excited for the new term and I can’t wait to meet all of my Ohana! Thank you for reading my first newsletter!

SALLY TSAI - LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR
Hello Polar Bears! My name is Sally Tsai and I am currently a junior attending Chaparral High School! I am extremely honored to serve Division 06 South and I am excited to help my Ohana reach its highest potential with the amazing ideas I plan to incorporate this term! As a soon-to-be-sophomore two summers ago, I experienced my Key Club moment at my very first division/ region event. It was eye-opening to see a whole Key Club division, comprised of multiple nearby high school Key Clubs, come together as a family just to serve the community and create friendships of a lifetime. After that day, I knew this organization had something great in store for me in the future. I fell in love with the compassion Key Clubbers had in serving the community, the endless spirit they embraced, and the admirable leadership skills they displayed. And with that, I hope each and every one of you experience the same passion as I do at one point in your Key Club career. I am eager to work with each and every one of you polar bears! Let’s start off this term smooth and strong with even more enthusiasm to serve! Thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter!

SHINY & NEW Paloma Valley put together and hosted an all out campus clean up on March 7 located at their high school campus. This event that consisted of all community service, was the highlight of some of our dedicated members’ weekend. This is just one of many way we are able to do something positive for our communities. From brooms to plastic gloves, our members went all out on cleaning up the campus one piece of trash at a time. By the time everything had been thrown away, packed up, and everyone went home, the PVHS campus had been left spotless. One would even say if you looked at the campus in the right light you could almost see it sparkle.
NHS CARNIVAL March 20th proved to be a successful day for our Key Club members, when weeks worth of preparation paid off in this year’s annual NHS carnival. Every year our high school’s National Honor Society (NHS) host a carnival where all the clubs on campus have the opportunity to provide entertainment for the community and fundraiser at the same time. This year we decided to run a nerf dart gun game, where the objective was to successfully shoot nerf dart pellets through various slots on a board and to sell chocolate covered strawberries. Many members rose to the occasion in preparation for this event, such as sophomore member Roberto Cejo who provided the necessary resources to run the nerf gun booth and junior vice president, with an Editor Focus, Caitlin Austria, who lent her home for the creation of the game board and the making and storage of the chocolate covered strawberries. Alongside, staying at Caitlin’s home to make the sweet treats, members stayed after school throughout the week in our advisor’s, Ms. Dao, room to hand make prizes for the winners of the nerf dart game. The theme for this year’s NHS carnival was inspired by the Disney film Lilo and Stitch, so members cut plastic flowers and glued them on to hair ties in order to make fashionable prizes to show off and wear, which were a big hit amongst little kids. Treasurer, Tavy Khamkathok said, “Our Key Club’s participation in the NHS carnival was a big success in fundraising, establishing more connections between members and most importantly promote Key Club spirit around campus.” With a profit of roughly $100 for the Key Club fund and a strong performance from our members, this event was a tremendous success.

ARTICLES AND VISUALS To: Club Editors or Club Vice Presidents Welcome to the new term! This is just a friendly reminder that each club’s respective Editor has the task of submitting a minimum of 1 article and 2 visuals (preferably please!). If your club does not have an Editor, the Vice President is responsible in fulfilling this monthly task. Articles should be a positive reflection or overview of a service, fundraiser, or social event that happened in the past month. If you are submitting an article for June, it should be written about an event that happened in May. Visuals are photos that demonstrate Key Clubbers at a service, fundraiser, or social events. Please try to send at least 1 service photo. You may send group photos and action shots; however, no selfies will be accepted. The visuals do not have to correspond with the event the article is written about. But it is suggested so it looks nice in the newsletter! I know there are some Key Clubbers that are very new to this position, but have no fear! The 2015 Officer Training Conference is coming very soon! You will receive comprehensive training and tips to hone your skills as club editor. But for now, try your best to document your club’s activities. I can’t make our newsletter without them! The CNH District also wants to know what our division is up to, so please make sure you submit your articles and visuals to d06s.keyclub.dne@gmail.com by the 10th of every month before 6:00 PM. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me for more information regarding your tasks!

EDITORIAL: IT’S ALWAYS BUZZING IN CALI-NEV-HA From March 13th - March 15th, a handful of polar bears had the chance to CELEBRATE service at the 69th CNH District Convention. On the first Friday, getting into the Hilton, the whole atmosphere changed. The lobby was filled with Key Clubbers in their spirit gear, from the D15 Giraffes to the D27 Grizzlies and the D2 Kiwis! There was a Service Expo as well, showcasing service projects like care packages to the military, knot tie blankets, and even a lemonade stand! Seminars began promptly after the Service Expo, and 3000 Key Clubbers began their training. Seminars were created for specific officer positions and concepts, like BEE-lieving in yourself (which led to the biggest group hug of the weekend!). Going into the first general session, spirit battles were everywhere. The first day felt like Fall Rally again, but with an even bigger Ohana to celebrate with. To finish the day off, different regions were put in a room together, where Key Clubbers could meet people from divisions from all corners of the CNH District. Region 4 teamed up with regions 10 and 15 for a total of 11 divisions packed into one room. The room roared when the LTGs asked us how we felt. To see how big and loving the CNH Ohana really is, was a great way to start off the first day of DCON. The second day, even though the attire was the most formal, that Saturday was the craziest of the whole weekend. The day was packed with educational seminars that got down to the fundamentals of how to better yourself as a Key Clubber, whether you’re a member or officer. Service event ideas, effective planning for meetings, and Key Club 101 are some examples of over 30 seminars given that day. Richard Kuo, a youth motivational speaker, oversaw the “How to Bee an Effective Leader” seminar, which brought about 1000 attendees to the ballroom, and starting the hashtag #CNHCactus. The General Sessions that day involved getting to know the Kiwanis Family, from Kiwanis to Circle K and Kiwins! After a conversation with the Kiwanis family, schools from our division were recognized for the money raised for the Eliminate Project and PTP! Congratulations to Chaparral, Temecula Valley, Paloma, and Heritage for being recognized by the District! But later that night, we found out that if you put 3000 Key Clubbers in a ballroom, the whole floor turns into a trampoline at the Governor’s Ball. The floor started shaking and Hilton employees had to stop everyone from jumping so much. The best way to end the second day was a midnight ramen party, and you could definitely smell the broth in the air (on every floor). For the final day of the convention, it was grueling to say goodbye to the Opportuni-Bees. Everyone was tearing up during Queen Bee/IP DGOV, Jacqueline Tsang’s farewell address. Nothing was more emotional than seeing the retirement of the 2014-2015 Executive Team. There was lot of crying for everyone in their last year of Key Club. All good things must come to an end, but next year will bring about even more celebration for alumni and current members alike. The convention ended with a welcome to the new term with Joshua Nuesca as our new DGOV! A big congratulations to the 2015-2016 Executive Team! Going to DCON was one of the most fun and most educational adventures in the 2014-2015 Key Club term. It is definitely the experience of a lifetime! Next year’s theme is “Guardians of Service” and we hope to see a bigger polar bear pack at the 70th CNH District Convention!

Member of the Month: Brian Plain, Chaparral Brian Plain has reached a tremendous high in terms of his dedication and leadership skills. Just starting Key Club his Junior year, he has truly gone above and beyond in terms of service and strives for his best in making it to every club and division event. As shy as he may be at times with other Polar Bears in the Division, he has progressed greatly in coming out of his shell. Also, special congratulations to him for achieving the honorary position of Fundraising Coordinator! I know he will do a stupendous job in reaching the division to new heights!
Officer of the Month: Tayler SMITH, TVHS Transitioning from a general member to the President of Temecula Valley Key Club, Tayler Smith had full confidence in herself and no problem in steering the club in the right direction. Her constant optimism always lightens the moods of her surrounding peers and is always motivated to reach for the stars. Tayler has been such a dedicated and responsive officer to work with in the past two months of this term, and I am looking forward to the major accomplishments she will fulfill at her home club.
CLUB of the Month: PERRIS HIGH SCHOOL Starting fresh with brand new officers may seem skeptical at first, however the Perris board has been successful since the beginning of the term. With ongoing service, devoted officers, and members, Perris has proven the famous saying of, "Started from the bottom, now we here." I am excited to work alongside this club and watch the amazing growth it has in store for us Polar Bears. Also, special thank you goes towards Perris for hosting a successful April DCM with an amazing turnout of 45 Polar Bears! Keep on the amazing work, Perris! Think someone should be recognized? The division buddy system allows neighboring clubs to share service event/ project ideas and work together at local events. It helps create a bond between schools, letting members get to know more Key Clubbers from their division! Partnered schools can update each other about their respective events and even help each other out to complete service together!

DIVISION POINT SYSTEM To: Division 6 South Greetings, Polar Bears! As of this month, Division 6 South will be installing a new division point system to encourage clubs to submit work on time with great efficiency. Points are earned by turning in submissions on time (MRFs, articles, and visuals). There are multiple categories to earn points in and throughout the term, there will also be special categories announced! We hope all clubs, officers, advisors, and of course, members, do their best to score the most points for every month for their respective home club! But remember, the amount of points you accumulate does not define your quality as a club. Some clubs are bigger than others, some are newer, which is why we’ll be putting an emphasis on PROGRESS! At the end of the term, you will be recognized for your great improvement! Always remember that every day is a new day! With every new day, week, and month, there will always be service events, fundraisers, and more, to help facilitate the growth of your club. Don’t be afraid to reach out to other clubs on how to improve as a club, to find out what works, what may not work, and even more! Perseverance is key! Each step of progress your club makes helps bring Division 6 South to greater heights. The improvement of the division starts with YOU!
