SLICE OF DNE’S LIFE
HELLO, MY LOVELY NINJAS!
Happy Love Month! All my love goes to you guys <3 It’s crazy how far we’ve all come this term and how it will be ending soon :( I won’t be seeing you guys next term, but I know the next generation of leaders have so much potential! I’m excited to see who will follow me as Division Newsletter Editor and Poly Key Club’s treasurer!
I’ve been enjoying my last months of Key Club and high school by spending quality time with friends! At the time I’m writing this, last night was Region 8 Key Club Formal! You may say the region really ATE!
I joined Key Club during quarantine, not knowing if I would ever experience Key CLub in person. I’m happy to be able to enjoy events that happened during my freshman year before I joined.
Stay serving and end the term strong!
KIWANIS SPOTLIGHT HOW TO ENGAGE MEMBERS
EXISTING MEMBERS
The key to keeping members engaged is making them feel valued and appreciated. This can be achieved by implementing a Member of the Month system as well as asking for feedback. Get input from members on service projects they’d like to see; increasing event attendance and member enjoyment.
NEW MEMBERS SOURCE
Once a new member has joined your club, provide orientation as soon as possible. Get to know them. Discover their interests. This establishes a sense of community between the member and the club.

YOUTH EMPOWERMENT SAFETY SYMPOSIUM
Key Clubbers helped serve lunch, r u n sports events, and more at YESS, where the community learned a b o u t human trafficking and hear speeches from survivors.
MARTIN LUTHER KING PARADE
VICKIE LAM | MILLIKAN | MEMBER
On January 14th, members from Millikan, Poly, Sato, and Wilson helped out with the local 35th MLK Parade! Rain or shine, members of Division 13 South continue to serve! Before the event, members moved chairs, tables, and boards as well as placing barricades to h e l p direct people. Moreover, I s a w performances by schools’ marching bands a n d color guards, making the event even more exciting. All in all, I was happy t o serve my community on a memorable day!
ICE- SKATING FUNDRAISER
NATALIE CANALIS | POLY | D13S FUNDRAISING COORD
Division 13 South hit the ice on January 28th for the annual ice skating fundraiser! Lakewood Ice’s rink enticed key clubbers with color-changing LED lights and plenty of Taylor Swift. A pleasant time was had by all, and absolutely no one fell, especially not m e... That m a y be an exaggerated version of events, but everyone still had fun, despite a few knee bruises :) All in all, members r a i s e d $316, which breaks this term’s individual fundraiser record! That money will go to DCON subsidies. The DLT would like to thank everyone who attended for both staying involved in Key Club and making DCON more accessible to future club leaders. See you all at next year’s ice skating fundraiser!
ICE- SKATING FUNDRAISER
MAULLICAI KHIEV | WILSON | TREASURER
January DCM was with our sister division, D13N, and the theme was Servathon! There were multiple service events offered s u c h as dog toy making, leis, and more. The Ninja Bruins participated in dog toy making, which was pretty easy to do! All you need are old t-shirts and braiding skills. Moreover, for the ice breaker, we p l a y e d Telephone: Dance Version! In a line, members mimicked a dance one at a time. It was funny t o see how a t the end, the d a n c e becomes completely different from the original! Joint DCM’s are my favorite, so having one in January was exciting! It w a s nice to see members bond despite being f r o m different locations and schools.
My club members and I had so much fun socializing and making homemade dog toys out of old shirts. It was such an fulfilling experience a n d I can’t wait for more servathons!!
VANESSA QUEST | BROWNING
This month we attended events and planned our own.
ROCIO VALADARES-CRUZ | CABRILLO

JUDY LAM | MILLIKAN
HIYA NINJAS! For the month of January, Millikan Key Club participated in the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade and Festival. Although we were stuck at barricades, we got to enjoy the parade and the freebies at the festival even though we were rained on. We’re currently planning service events during our lunches and a fun one in February. Remember, ITS A GREAT DAY TO BE A RAMINJA! HAVE RAMTASTIC DAY/NIGHT!
NISHA PATEL | POLYTECHNIC
Hello 13South! PKC has been booming with elections, service events, and socials! January might have been rough since we were ending and starting the new semester, but we’re hopping back on our feet. Getting ready for many new things to come! Hoppin’ and kickin’ in service, Nisha
YUKI LEE | RANCHO DOMINGUEZ
January by far was the slowest month, a third of the month was winter recess and a lot of members were out due to being sick. We had a meeting, took pictures for yearbook, passed out those scholarship applications, and some dues were paid as well. For projects, nothing happened much besides in school events.
JENNIFER LOPEZ | SATO ACADEMY
For Sato key club it was more of officer meetings and planning. Since the term end is coming soon we had been planning to begin elections (which we have been holding meeting for in Feb.). We have been planning fundraisers/service events before the end of March and how we would work with the new board to settle them in!
