ltg's letter I'm sure that many of your summer vacations are ending with the school year beginning. Now that means it's time for... MEMBER RECRUITMENT! I really hope that all of you get more people to join (Remember that if one person simply gets one person to join, that increased membership by 100%!). We have lots of events planned ahead for you all like Regional Training Conference (RTC) and Fall Rally South (FRS), so the spirit has just begun! Besides those events, we have tons of service planned for the future. See you all soon! If you have any questions, comments, or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me. "Alone we are strong, but together we are stronger."

HI-YA Division 13 South! I hope all of you had an AMAZING summer, whether you were productive or just relaxing. Try to finish all of your summer projects (I know I have to, hehe) early so you can have a non-stressful last days of summer.

mia sam // executive assistant Hi D13S! Summer is coming to a close and I hope you've all had enough relaxation time. With the 2018-2019 school year coming soon, I'm sure we're all preparing our supplies and readying ourselves for the months to come. Just a reminder that each and every one of you can do this! If you ever need help or someone to talk to, please come to me. I know how stressful things can get! Division and club events are also a good way to take a break while still doing something productive. I wish you all the greatest of luck for this coming year!

feed the homeless

daniel le bellflower | webmaster On Sunday, August 5th, our division volunteered at the Urban Community Outreach Drop-Center, a place that helps the homeless and lower-class families. Every Sunday of the year-besides June-Urban Community Outreach helps by cooking hot meals and providing monthly visits from nurses and other healthcare professionals. They also provide clothing, hygiene kits, help for childcare, and temporary and permanent shelter. In the morning, we prepared the food by, cutting vegetables, meat, and bread. We also peeled eggs and made beverages. We then spent time setting up tables, cleaning them, making sure they were ready for the hungry guests. Then it was time to serve-a plate of rice with chicken, along with salad and vegetables. There were other things they could take too, such as deviled eggs, cake, toasted breads, and other pastries. While some of us served the food, others helped serve beverages, and provide packaged foods for them to take with them. The guests were able to eat at the tables, or eat while watching a movie, while others used the computers. Overall, this was a great experience, helping the homeless. The homeless feeding was success, knowing we helped the homeless leave with full stomachs and other essentials to help them live.

mark noche rancho dominguez | vice-president On Saturday, August 4th, Rancho Key Club volunteered at the Termino Ave Beach Cleanup. We helped clean the shoreline along with other locals and volunteer organizations. Along the way we picked up lots of trash that was left behind such as bottles, cigarettes butts, and plastic. After an hour of cleaning we ended up collecting 2 pounds of trash from the beach. We hope that our efforts helped the beach become safer and cleaner for people visiting.

mia sam sato | president | ea On Saturday, August 11th, our division volunteered to participate in the Wet N Wild 5K. This is an annual event in which we work alongside other divisions. All proceeds earned goes towards Strong Tower Ministries, a non-profit organization that helps to feed, cloth, educate, and rescue local children in Orange County and Baja California. It takes place at La Mirada Regional Park, where an aquatic center is located and integrated into the run to make it a family friendly occasion! The racers start by first running through a scenic park and end with the event’s “signature ‘lazy river’ finish”! Medals and awards are then given to the top 3 runners in each age category. Volunteering at this event was enjoyable for our members, as they got to cheer on runners of many ages. Stations varied from registering runners, to spraying them with water as they ran, to rewarding them with a medal at the finish line. They also were given the opportunity to meet many new faces, from those volunteering to those who were running. We cannot wait to participate again next year!
